OUR COMMUNITY
OUR FUTURE A CAMPAIGN TO EXPAND THE MADISON AREA YMCA
“ Working in partnership with many other organizations, the Madison Area YMCA has long been central to building a strong and integrated community that cares for people across the income and cultural spectrum. The expanded Madison Area YMCA will assure that for generations to come, all community members have access to wellness, recreation and social support networks that are key to healthy community life.”
– Chris Daggett, President and CEO Geraldine R. Dodge Foundation
WHAT IS COMMUNITY? IT’S PEOPLE LIVING AND WORKING TOGETHER. IT’S TRUST, BELONGING, SAFETY AND ACCEPTANCE. IT’S SHARED EXPERIENCE AND TAKING CARE OF EACH OTHER.
AT THE Y, STRENGTHENING COMMUNITY IS OUR CAUSE. For more than 150 years, the Madison Area YMCA has said “yes” to community. Generations of children have grown up here. Friendships flourish. People of all ages serve others through their time, treasure and talents. While the programs and services we offer have evolved, our core mission – to develop healthy spirit, mind and body for all – remains the same.

THE MADISON AREA YMCA RESPONDS
Drowning is the second leading cause of accidental death in children under 14.
The Y offers swim lessons for all ages, with a focus on youth and toddlers. Each week, more than 550 kids learn to be safer and more confident around water at the Madison Area YMCA.
Today’s child spends an average of seven hours in front of a screen each day, but only four minutes outside playing.
Through youth sports, day camp, aquatics, gymnastics and many more activities, kids and teens interact socially at the Y, learning healthy habits that can last a lifetime.
Morris County has seen a 21% rise in adult obesity since 2010. Obesity and inactivity can lead to diseases such as diabetes, heart disease and more.
The Y is a leader in combating lifestyle-related diseases with group exercise programs and wellness coaching. Plus, we help people recovering from injuries or dealing with chronic illness to remain active and improve their health.
Nearly one out of ten Morris County residents couldn’t afford to visit a doctor in the past year.
The Madison Area YMCA is a source of education and support on issues such as nutrition, wellness and stress management.
The number of people age 65 or older will double between 2000 and 2030.
The Y is truly for all ages. We make a special effort to welcome and connect hundreds of active older adults through wellness, volunteering and social activities.
“ We joined the Madison Area YMCA in 2011 when I first moved here and was looking for a place to meet new people. Very quickly the Y became a second home to us. What really makes this Y special is that people of different ages, generations, diverse needs and interests are welcome. I smile when I hear members say that they first brought their children here when they were younger… and now their grandchildren are members here too. The Madison Area YMCA is a hub for the whole community and I hope it will continue to serve future generations. It would be great if my children and grandchildren said, “We grew up at the Madison Area YMCA!” – Katie, YMCA member
OUR COMMUNITY. OUR FUTURE. Since opening our doors on Kings Road in 1962, our membership has more than doubled. Our YMCA is bursting at the seams with activity. While we rejoice in our thriving participation, our ability to meet the needs of our community has hit a brick wall. Literally.
EVERY DAY, WE HAVE TO SAY “NO TO SOMEONE. Will it be the senior strength and flexibility class or the youth dancers in this room tonight? Will families get to play in the pool or will we offer life-saving swim lessons? We want members to connect and get to know each other, and yet we have precious little space for those conversations to happen. The demand for our programs shows our community wants what the Y has to offer.
THE MADISON AREA YMCA IS COMMITTED TO SAYING “YES” TO OUR COMMUNITY. Recognizing the needs of our members and neighbors, and the challenges and limitations of our current facility, the Madison Area YMCA’s Board of Directors has launched a fundraising campaign to expand our Y. With your help, we will provide additional services to encourage a healthy and active community. Together, we will connect neighbors and families, strengthening the social bonds that promote understanding and reduce stress. Through your generosity, the YMCA mission will reach more people in our community, making sure we can say “yes” today and in the future.
“ At the Foundation, we looked at the Campaign case statement and recognized a bold, but doable goal. We hope our early support generates what we call the “gg” factor: genuine generosity from local leaders who are willing to spend time and funds so that the YMCA can continue to serve the people of our community. The need and demand for the YMCA is real, from six-months-old to age 90+.” – S. Dillard Kirby President and Director, F.M. Kirby Foundation Campaign Leadership Cabinet
