Spring Wedding Fairs

Imagine a place with unlimited and free expertise that can help you build your dream wedding. Now imagine that such a resource is right in your back yard.

Odds are, you’re in luck! Many bridal associations and local tourism organizations partner on an annual basis to bring spring wedding fairs to their areas. The fairs are filled with vendors and consultants ready to give you great resources and connections for building the perfect wedding. Check in with your local tourism group to find out when and where the closest bridal show is scheduled. Then make a list of questions and potential ideas for your celebration. Attending a bridal fair is a unique experience because of the energy and enthusiasm in the room, as many potential brides buzz through the venue with questions and excitement. Not getting married anytime soon? That’s OK. Even if a wedding for you, a friend or family member is not in the immediate future, your local wedding fair can still be a fun experience filled with games, food and drinks.

Face-to-Face Interactions

Wedding Cake Trends

2015 presents many new flavors, unique ideas and nontraditional wedding cake arrangements. There are of course classic trends making a come back as well, so if you desire a more traditional cake there’s still plenty of styles for you to choose from. As we continue to pick up influences from other cultures, wedding cake styles continue to change. Many brides now crave a strong french influence for their big day serving up treats such as crepes, Croquembouches, and even macaroon. Not only are these treats being served at the weddings, but bridal showers, and engagement dinners as well. 2015 is truly the year to create and design the wedding cake of your dreams. The greatest benefits of attending a spring bridal fair involves the faceto-face interaction you will be able to experience. Caterers, cake designers, photographers, DJs and floral designers fill the rooms at bridal fairs, ready to offer ideas, pricing plans and samples of their work. You will be able to interface with these professionals to build relationships, helping you decide if you can see yourself working with them on something as large as your wedding.

The Perfect Shower While some brides like to be involved in all aspects of their wedding and related celebrations, tradition leaves it up to the bridesmaids to throw the bridal shower.

P

These events can range from informal get-togethers at a local restaurant to a fancy shindig at an upscale resort. If your friends will be planning your shower, be sure to offer up a few ideas if asked. If you give them some general direction of how you would like the party to play out, then they will be more likely to plan the perfect party.

Look Your Best

Don’t forget to wear your shiny new engagement ring to your shower, as well as any party dress or accessories that will help you stick out from the crowd. You will naturally be the center of attention at your bridal shower, so it is a good idea to be stylish and sleek. You want parting guests to be talking about your outfit and natural glow.

It’s Your Party … But No Crying

Nothing will rack up “bride-zilla” points quicker than someone throwing a fit over the shower her friends planned for her. If you give your friends the green light, then you should be ready for anything. This means being willing to go with the flow if they have a few surprises to throw your way. Even if you are less than impressed with certain aspects of your party – or who makes it onto the invite list – just remember how much work your friends put into planning a special night for your big celebration.

Ask for Advice

If your friends ask you for any input during the party planning phase, be sure to mention the idea of gathering advice, especially from female guests who have been married for long periods of time. Guests can be pre-mailed a blank recipe card or advice sheet and be asked to bring the completed documents to the shower. It’s always a good idea to listen to and respect your elders, especially ones who have found happiness and longevity in their marriages.

Hair...tips and tricks Humidity and warmer weather can send your hair into a frizzy tizzy – the last thing you want to worry about on the day of your wedding. No one knows your hair better than you, so being prepared for potential issues can help save you a hair headache. The key to applying the right product or employing the most effective treatment method is trying them out weeks or months ahead of your wedding day. Be patient if you’re forced to try many different options and products. Your hard work and persistence will be rewarded with the perfect hair day on your special day. With a bevy of options on the market, staying local can be your best choice when it comes to purchasing the right anti-frizz solution. Your local beauty supply store will have many choices in stock and its professionals can walk you through the various treatments. Another benefit of actually seeing the product in person be-

fore you buy it is an opportunity to try it, which many local shops will allow to build customer loyalty. Dish out any details that may help your hair consultant make an informed recommendation for overcoming your biggest challenges. Follow all manufacturers’ directions for applications. The last thing you want is a dampened hair mess distracting from your beautiful smile and dress as you walk down the aisle. No matter what you’re working with, it’s important to understand how your hair reacts in springtime situations. Curly and straight hair react differently to humidity, so know what to expect if you’re planning on changing up your usual hair style for your wedding day. In most cases, frizz is caused by hair trying to soak in the moisture from the air. The coarser and dryer your hair, the worse the frizz buildup can be. That’s why using a moisture-infusing product can make such a big difference in fighting fly-aways.

Choosing the Right Caterer

C

Even though their methods for catering may be pretty similar, every restaurant is not the same when it comes to handling your wedding.

There are numerous factors that come into play, ranging from cooking specialties to availability of resources. Before deciding on your final choice for caterer, make sure to ask the below questions – along with any others specific to your wedding – to make sure you find the one most aligned with your nuptial needs.

Do you have a license?

Get this one out of the way quickly because some venues will not allow an unlicensed food operation on their sites.

What is your price range and can I get a quote on paper?

Making sure you have an on-paper quote will help resolve any confusion come payment time.

How many weddings have you catered for in the past couple of years?

This answer may be one of the most important, as you want to make sure the company is experienced and up to the challenge.

Are you specialized in a certain cooking style or methodology?

This is crucial if you’re looking for a specific type of food for your reception, like French cuisine or seafood.

Will you be providing chairs, silverware, linens and equipment?

A ‘no’ answer to any of these questions could lead in higher costs for you and more stress in trying to coordinate different vendors to fulfill these needs.

Do you only cater one event per day?

You want to make sure you have the full attention of the organization and its staff during your wedding.

Are you easy to get a hold of if I have questions throughout the meal-planning process?

Every caterer will surely answer ‘yes.’ A good follow-up question is for a list of references just to make sure you can conduct a little follow-up research.

Do you also do wedding cakes?

Having the same party handle snacks, dinner and the cake means one less vendor for you to find during the planning stages.

Don’t Leave it to Chance…have it catered by Chef Chanse A multitude of on-going tasks are inherent when planning for a wedding. Of course, you’ve probably already figured this out and will hardly be surprised to hear that among the most significant of these pre-wedding duties is hunting down a good, reputable caterer. Reserving your available wedding date with that caterer before another eager bride beats you to it is even more important. Indeed, this task can seem especially overwhelming. Whether you have 75 guests or 500 guests - it all boils down to one thing: finding a caterer that knows how to please all those palates. You may be wondering where to begin or how this pursuit for the perfect meal can be accomplished. Don’t panic. Your answer lies in the hands of a caterer with the know-how and background experience it takes to make your reception meal a success. Chef Chanse, already a respected culinary name in the

area, is the owner of Entrees by Chef Chanse at the Juneau Community Center. With over 19 years of experience in the food business, a college degree and a passion for what he does, he will work with you to make sure everything runs smoothly. Before owning a banquet hall Chef Chanse’s previous experience included years of line and elegant dining cooking, catering for different types of occasions and restaurant management and ownership. Chef Chanse takes tremendous pride in his work and the repeating customers are the best testimony of the quality of the services offered at the Juneau Community Center. His portfolio includes over 400 carved watermelons: from wedding, anniversary themes and corporate logos to more personalized designs that will make a great conversation piece at your party. The Gown

Ah, the wedding dress. So many careful hours of research, fitting and re-fitting for only a few hours of glory. But once your special day comes and goes, deciding what to do with the gown can be a difficult choice for many brides. Should you keep it stored away as a memento of your wedding day or let it go?

Keep It

When deciding to keep your gown, it’s important to determine why. Are you hoping to one day hand over your dress to your daughter? If so, then keeping the gown in a basement, attic or back of the closet may not be an ideal storage option. Garment professionals recommend you properly clean and store your gown for optimal life span. Simply shutting it away and forgetting about it can lead to a ragged, faded garment after even a short period of time.

Donate It

If you have no future plans to give away your dress to a family member or friend, why not donate it to charity? Organizations like Brides Against Breast Cancer use donated dresses to put on their Nationwide Tour of Gowns effort, which it raises funds to contribute to programs for cancer patients and their families. Check in with your local charitable organizations or consignment shops to see if there is a need for donated dresses in your area.

Sell It

Another option for your gown after your wedding is selling it to make back some of your own costs. This may be a great option if the dress is very valuable and if the company you bought it from has a flexible buyback program. There are also a variety of online options for selling your gown. Many companies buy and sell pre-owned wedding dresses – just don’t expect to get top-dollar out of these bargain services.

Three Incredible Facilities…Eight Unique Halls to Choose From

For over 21 years, the Merkel family has worked hard to assemble three outstanding golf and banquet facilities in Dodge and Washington Counties.

Their first entry, which occurred in Washington County, was the West Bend Lakes Golf Club (262-675-9922). This facility on Hwy. 33 between West Bend and Newburg specializes in parties up to about 150 people and is known for its great buffets. The menu can be specialized to meet your needs and is competitively priced. General Manager, Chris Merkel and his staff will work with you to make your day something special. Shortly after purchasing the facility in West Bend, the family’s next purchase was The Golf Club at Camelot (920-269-4949). This golf club is the flag ship facility of the group with a million dollar clubhouse and five separate banquet halls to serve your banquet needs. At Camelot we can do virtually any type of banquet you desire, Multiple banquet facilities include The Royal Hall (seats 350), Cabana Bar (9 tons of sand on the floor), The King’s Lodge (seats 200) and our newest crowned jewel...Guinevere’s Garden-outdoor wedding/outing/banquet setting overlooking nature’s finest! Our menus are designed around the brides’ wishes and her guests

comfort. We have the added advantage of having a designated onsite wedding facility and minister available to complete your special day. Let Kay Shaffer, our wedding coordinator help you create the perfect day. This past winter, the family purchased Rock River Hills Golf Club, in Dodge County, and renamed it Horicon Hills Golf Club (920-485-2000). This winter we have been giving the entire building a much needed rejuvenation. The main hall, which seats about 150 people overlooks the Rock River and has an additional deck where guests can sit and enjoy the views of the course and the river. Menus range from the simplest of buffets to the grandest of sit-down dinners. We also have a small party room downstairs that could be used for various events. Please contact Lindy Rohlinger, Food and Beverage Director or Jim Merkel, Partner and General Manager for more information. We really believe that we have something to meet every bride’s dreams and budget. Give us a call or stop in and check us out, we know you will be pleasantly surprised.

Multi-Functional Venues

Spring can be the perfect time of year for an outdoor wedding. Unless it is rainy outside. Or snowy. Or cold.

Come to think of it, the spring can be a downright perplexing season to throw a seamless wedding celebration! Fortunately, you’re smart enough to be prepared for any climate curveballs that may be thrown your way. The temperamental inconsistencies of Mother Nature come springtime make multi-functional venues the perfect choice for a bride-to-be. Especially in traditionally colder regions, it may be the best option to find such a venue that offers both indoor and outdoor entertaining spaces.

Weather Benefits

The obvious benefit of having both an indoor or outdoor venue option is in the case of a forecasted rain or snow storm. By keeping an eye on the weather starting a couple of weeks before your big day, you can make an informed decision on which portion of the venue you will decorate and for what purpose. Many wedding planners suggest starting your plans with an outdoor ceremony before moving inside for the reception. Your guests will be happy to sit through chilled temperatures or a light drizzle to watch you get married, but may not stick around in such conditions for a late-night party.

Cost

While the benefits are many for choosing a multi-functional venue for your wedding day, cost may not be one of them. Renting out both a facility and an outdoor area can in some cases double your venue price tag. Be sure to compare all options when making your venue list. You may be able to find a company or organization that offers discounted costs for renting multiple facets of its facilities. If the more expensive venue still tops your list after some research, you may be able to find other areas in your budget that are more flexible.

Patterns are In Polka dots, plaid and stripes, oh my! Patterns are taking the wedding world by storm as more and more brides are opting for uniquely whimsical events. And wedding experts aren’t calling the pattern trend a passing fad. Bridal shows from California to New York have seen an uptick in designers showing off pattered dresses over the past few years. When matched with a classic color scheme, polka dots and plaid can help create a contemporary yet quirky wedding theme.

The Attire

While you won’t spot many brides donning full-on polka-dotted dresses as they walk down the aisle, patterns are becoming part of wardrobe accessories.

Groom and groomsmen vests, lapels or ties offer the perfect pieces for a little customized patterning. Bride and bridesmaid veils, shawls or corsages can also be spiced up with subtle stripes or plaid patterns. The key to pulling off patterned success is cohesion across your wedding party. Don’t ask your bridesmaids to wear polka dots and the groomsmen to don stripes. A little consistency can go a long way.

The Decorations

If you decide to go with a patterned theme for your attire, help enhance it with similarly designed decorations. Your tablecloths, napkins, chair backs and even aisle runner can look great in patterns. You can even give guests a sneak peek into your theme by sending out patterned invitations, RSVP cards and dinner menus for the reception.

The Food

And speaking of dinner menus, you can even infuse patterns into your wedding fare. Patterned napkins and plates can help strengthen your theme during dinner, while your cake be totally decked out in polka dots or stripes. Let your cake designer get creative with layering patterns together or with only patterning one or two tiers of your cake. Guests will love your attention to detail and the effort you put into integrating patterns into every aspect of your event.

Let Rechek’s Food Pride Personalize Your Wedding Day!!

“A wedding cake should be a celebration,” says Joseph Fuchs, Master Baker at Rechek’s Food Pride. Next to the bride and groom, the thing that is photographed the most at a wedding is the cake.

Joe works with two types of icing, white butter cream and European French cream. White butter cream is made with vegetable shortening and powdered sugar. European French cream is made from real butter, Bavarian cream and powdered sugar, and is a much richer icing. “When I flavor the European French cream for fillings, I fold in real chocolate,” he said. “My strawberry icing starts with real strawberries. Everything is real, made from scratch.” “We make a very moist cake in almost any flavor imaginable, Cake flavors can include white, carrot, devil’s food, banana, marble, cherry, lemon poppy seed, red velvet and yellow.” Rechek’s Bakery wedding cakes can be made to serve any size group and servings are generous. There are several options available: • Filled and frosted in traditional butter cream icing is $2.30 per serving. This consists of two layers of cake and one layer of filling per tier.

• Filled and frosted in European French cream is $2.50 per serving. This consists of four half-layers of cake and three fillings per tier. • Frosted in traditional butter cream and filled with European French cream between layers is $2.40 per serving. This consists of four one-half layers of cake and three fillings per tier. • We can also do cupcakes, they start at 79¢ each. • Rechek’s Bakery can even place an edible photo on a cake. A cake can be ordered as far in advance as preferred, but Fuchs said it must be ordered no less than one month before the wedding. Rechek’s will deliver and set up the cake at the reception hall, with no delivery charge on most orders in Beaver Dam. “It is well worth the time and money spent to make your cake as special as it can be,” said Joe. He said the cake specialists at Rechek’s will work with the future bride to plan the “perfect cake” for the special occasion. People ordering cakes can bring in a photo of a cake they like or look through books of photos at Rechek’s for ideas. Joe can be reached at Rechek’s Bakery by calling (920) 887-2268
