Moraine park technical college
Business
Moraine Park Technical College saw major changes in 2015, from physical appearance to top personnel and educational partnerships.
The most significant change was Bonnie Baerwald being named Moraine Park Technical College president. That appointment came in May, after Baerwald had served as interim president Bonnie Baerwald - President following the departure of former president, Sheila Ruhland, in January. Baerwald has been with Moraine Park since 1993, starting her tenure with the College as senior accountant. Over the years, she went on to serve as financial services manager and vice president of financial management before being named vice president of finance and administrative services in 2007. “I’m excited and grateful for the opportunity
to serve Moraine Park and to help our students succeed – no matter what their goals,” Baerwald said. “Throughout this year and the next, our College focus will be on innovative programming and expanded services for all generations of learners, creating new initiatives to make Moraine Park an employer of choice; enhancing and streamlining our administrative and instructional technologies; and working with our educational partners and community leaders on innovative solutions to enhance career readiness and skilled workforce training for economic growth and success.” One significant partnership in 2015 came with Marian University. The two colleges agreed to offer 11 new academic transfer agreements and also formed an “Educational Fusion” program. Students who enroll in “Fusion” may take courses at both institutions, while working simultaneously toward their associates and bachelor’s degrees. Another key change was the completion of a major addition and remodeling project at the Fond du Lac campus in spring. The project created a “one-stop shop” Student Services Center. The 5,212 square foot addition and remodel project also introduced a more architecturally prominent main entrance for the College. Other features include a walkup service area for enrollment services, a concierge desk for visitors and students to assist with general information questions, new offices and a separate area to provide services to current and potential student veterans. Serving veterans was a highlight for the College in many other ways as well. Moraine Park was named a “Military Friendly” school for the 6th year in a row and also ranked 9th place

Looking forward to 2016, this fall Moraine Park will add two new information technology programs. The two new associate of applied science (AAS) degree programs will be the IT Web Development and Design Specialist and the IT Mobile Applications Developer. The IT Web Development and Design Specialist program will give students the skills to design and in the nation in the Military Times’ “Best for Vets” list; served as hosts for the second annual Wisconsin Technical College System Veterans Services Summit in November; and President Baerwald and Dr. Stan Cram, Moraine Park’s vice president of student affairs, both received the Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR) Patriot Award. Moraine Park also became the first technical college in the United States to achieve Fair Trade status. Fair Trade is a global trade model that promotes the purchase and sale of goods produced ethically and fairly. It ensures fair wages, safe working conditions, and environmental sustainability while prohibiting forced labor. Fair Trade products such as coffee, tea, chocolate and greeting cards are available at all three Moraine Park cafeterias and bookstores.

Because these two programs are similar in content, students can achieve both AAS degrees in five semesters, if they choose. nancy’s notions Founded in 1979
Business
Founded in 1979 by Nancy Zieman, Nancy’s Notions has grown from a one-woman mail order operation, to a multi-channel organization that includes a mail order catalog, website, and retail store. It all started when Zieman sat at her kitchen table 35 years ago creating a simple listing of hard to find sewing notions which she planned to distribute at an upcoming sewing presentation she was teaching. Her students, as well as the owners of stores at which she taught, appreciated having a place to turn to buy these unique products to make sewing tasks easier and more efficient.
Over the years, the retail store has become more than just a place to shop. Sure, you’ll find the best quality sewing, quilting, and embroidery machines and sergers, a mouth-watering selection of gorgeous quilting and fashion fabrics, and a huge selection of must having sewing supplies. You can even get your machine serviced, your scissors sharpened, or sign up for a class or weekend retreat to take your sewing, quilting, serging, or embroidery skills to the next level. But there is so much more to the store than that; it’s also place to spend a part of your day relaxing, rejuvenating, and creating. Store employees eagerly await your arrival so they can help you bring your next project to life. Grab a cup of complimentary coffee or water, and get ready to indulge your senses in the wonderful products, history, education, and inspiration of Nancy’s Notions Retail Store. Stop in today to see why sewing enthusiasts have relied on Nancy’s Notions for the best sewing ideas, quality supplies and notions, sewing education and expert advice for over 35 years. Or visit us on the web at nancysnotions.com/store.
By 1983 the demand for these products continued to grow, and Zieman moved her mail order operation into a renovated chicken coop owned by her mother- and father-in-law. Today you’ll find the company’s administrative offices, warehouse, and retail store at 333 Beichl Avenue in Beaver Dam, not far from the chicken coop that served as the first dedicated offices and fulfillment center for Nancy’s Notions.

or have a certain religious affiliation. There are those too that are for-profit establishments that allow them to restrict the services they provide and to whom. Others like Rainbow Hospice Care—a community based, non-profit organization— operate independently and collaborate with other area healthcare partners to serve a broader, more diverse population.
rainbow hospice care The Hospice Choice
Business
We who live in southern Wisconsin are fortunate to have access to hospice providers offering specialized, high-quality end-of-life care. Not everyone does, and where hospice isn’t available, terminally ill patients and their families often miss out on valuable resources that could be of great benefit to them. Although most US hospices are based on a similar philosophy that focuses on providing palliative care which is based on comfort rather than cure. However, each organization is unique and it’s important to understand some of the differentiating factors. First and foremost is whether the hospice is Medicare Certified, which ensures that it meets federal standards and regulations for patient care and management. Rainbow Hospice Care has been Medicare Certified since it was founded more than 26 years ago, and we do much more than what Medicare requires in honoring our promise to provide unparalleled care to residents living throughout the counties of Jefferson, southern Dodge, south-eastern Columbia, eastern Dane, northern Walworth and beyond. It also helps to know that some hospices operate as part of a specific medical group or system,
Maybe the most important consideration is not so much what a hospice does, but how. When Rainbow Hospice Care is involved, patients, their families, and caregivers are all supported by teams of specially trained physicians, nurses, hospice aides, social workers, chaplains, grief counselors, other therapists, and volunteers. This holistic, integrated approach ensures that each individual has access to comprehensive physical, emotional, social, spiritual care tailored to his or her unique needs and wishes. Care teams provide expert pain and symptom management, assistance with personal cares, education, and ongoing guidance that allows patients and their loved ones to enjoy a higher quality of life while focusing on what’s most important to them throughout the end-of-life journey. Rainbow Hospice Care services are typically covered by Medicare, Medicaid and most private insurers. Benefits include planned visits, treatments, medicines, equipment, respite care, and more—including bereavement care for survivors. On-call staff members are available 24-7 to respond to urgent needs. Regardless of age, race, gender, faith, ethnicity, insurance coverage or economic status, we treat all of our patients and their loved ones with the same respect, kindness and concern. Care is never denied due to inability to pay. For more information, call (920) 674-6255 or visit www.rainbowhospicecare.org

lidtke motors Worth the Drive Since 1955
Business
Lidtke Motors has been proud to serve Beaver Dam and Dodge County as their Lincoln dealership. In 1953, Herb Lidtke joined Gearing Motors at 127 Park Avenue as a partner selling Packards and Willys. In 1955, Herb purchased the dealership and it became Lidtke Motors, Inc. The business has seen many changes throughout the years, but still has not lost sight of its focus, and that is service. Service after the sale and service to the community is what Herb has centered his business on. The Mercury franchise was added in 1955 and Lincoln in 1965 when the business moved to its present location at 701 Park Avenue. To continue to provide exceptional service, the facility completed an addition in 1998 to provide more service bays, an auto detailing department and new body shop. The service and body shop departments are equipped with the latest in repair equipment technology. Recent additions being a new digital alignment system and Hunter alignment rack. The staff of certified technicians has an average of 35 years of experience in the operation of all types of mechanical skills, such as gas and

mischler’s harley-davidson & bmw Cruising into Our 58th Year!
Business
Mischler’s Harley-Davidson & BMW owner, Art Mischler said that after 58 years in business and 57 with BMW, he owes a debt of gratitude to his staff, who work hard to keep their customers happy. “We are a small dealership so I manage the overall function of the store, but each of my staff members help me keep each area running smoothly,” Art said. His son Eric is sales and parts and son Dan works as a technician in the shop and also helps in other areas. “We have been growing as we’ve been going along. We now have 14 employees and we started out with five.” Art said. The family owned business was started by Art’s father, Bill, in 1958. Art said his dad got into the business because it was fun. He had been farming and it was long hours. In addition to farming, the family had been into racing for many years, so motorcycles seemed to be the better fit. The business started out with a small, two car garage store in downtown Beaver Dam. The
location then moved to the north side of town and that was 6,000 square feet. After that the business expanded and moved to a 22,000 square foot newly constructed building which is their current location on Kellom Road, visible from Hwy 151. Art started working as a technician in 1973 after graduating high school. He stayed with the company and bought the dealership in 1993. “And when I retire, my sons will carry the business on,” Art said. “I think customers have a sense of security at this dealership since it has been family owned for 58 years.” The business has changed over the years as Harley Davidson & BMW has expanded all aspects for the dealerships and its customers. Product quality and availability is at its best. The staff is continuously searching for ways to improve customer satisfaction and offer the latest state of the art equipment. Throughout the year, employees also attend Harley and BMW seminars across the country, to become certified on the latest technology and current information regarding Harley and BMW cycles and merchandise. Art attributes the success of the business to a dedication of fairness and honesty. “We go out of our way to treat customers the way we would like to be treated.”, Mischler said. “I love coming into work in the morning, it is a challenge everyday, but I enjoy it. There is always something new and adventurous to look forward to. Mischlers are ready for spring and invite everyone to their Spring Fling event May 6 & 7.

don cigelske transmissions
Business
Don Cigelske Transmissions was established in 1975 as Don’s Auto Service & Repair. Automatic transmission repair soon became a major component of the business, as transmission repair was added to the initial yellow pages ad in 1976, almost as an after thought, and became the only listing that year. Since then transmission repair has become the main part of the business, and the name was changed to reflect that in 1990.

business owners can market their businesses
Small business owners can explore the various marketing options they have to spread the word about their businesses. According to Forbes magazine, more than 50 percent of the working population works for a small business. The Small Business Association reports there are almost 28 million small businesses in the United States. Many small businesses are home-based and hundreds get started each month.

Customers will visit websites to find directions to brick-and-mortar stores, find store hours and/or learn about the products or services offered by a particular firm. Small business owners should establish an online presence and ensure the site is routinely updated and modernized.
Small business owners just getting started may want to consider the following tips as they attempt to market their businesses and expand their customer base.
· Sponsor local events. For a relatively small investment, small businesses can get their names out to the public by sponsoring community events. When approached by schools and other organizations, lend your help. Donate a basket of goods or a certificate for services for gift auctions. Work with organizations to donate a portion of sales to a charity or school through a specialized fundraiser. Contact a sports league to see if your company name can be printed on uniforms or used on banners around the field. Not only will this get your name out, but it also will establish a positive image of your company.
· Create an online presence. A survey from online marketing firm Yodle found that only about half of small businesses have

Despite their prevalence, only a handful of small businesses survive more than 10 years. Small business owners must learn how to properly market their businesses and garner a larger audience to stay afloat. While there’s no set amount a business should devote to advertising and marketing, such expenses should be included in an organization’s operational budget.

new financial representative of the year. He has also been nationally recognized for outstanding growth and service. Leonard says he has come to learn that many people in the area have products, but they don’t have a plan. “My passion is to not only provide folks the protection they need, but to serve them in the way that suits them best,” he said.
Thrivent Financial
Trusted and Faithful Financial Guide
Business
Thrivent Financial associate, Jonathan D. Leonard FIC, CLTC, has had a banner year. He’s expanded his Waupun practice by serving more members, hired staff, and received national accolades for excellence. “I’m honored to service my clients locally, with my home base right here in downtown Waupun,” Leonard said. “My members know they have a trusted and faithful financial guide who helps them realize their dreams.” In order to deliver exceptional customer experiences, Leonard has hired additional staff members who share his commitment to developing meaningful relationships. “Jonathan is a family man and he treats his clients like family,” said Thrivent member Donna Suszek. “You get the feeling that there’s no doubt everyone at his office wants the best for you.” His success serving his Dodge and Fond du Lac County members, and their willingness to recommend him to their friends and loved ones, led to Leonard being named East Wisconsin Upper Peninsula Michigan regional
“We are so thankful that we attended the dinner presentation with Thrivent Financial. The dinner was delicious, but the most important part was meeting Jonathan and finding out all the opportunities and benefits that were available for us,” said Thrivent members Larry and Judy Westra. “Jonathan is the only person that we met that we felt truly cared for us as a family. He has spent hours helping us change our investments, as we have made a lot of bad investment choices. We truly feel that we are finally in good hands and have someone we can trust.” Many of Leonard’s members have led Thrivent Action Teams as a way to be generous to the causes they care about. Thrivent Action Teams are a benefit of membership and are led by Thrivent members who identify and want to meet an immediate community need. It’s an easy and fun way for them to bring their family and friends together to help strengthen their churches and communities. “Thrivent doesn’t just offer spectacular financial planning for clients to live generously, but our programs also deepen and grow members’ relationships with the churches and charities they hold most dear,” Leonard said. “I’m proud to be part of blessing my members to grow Christian fellowship that lasts for generations.”

But owning a business is a lot of work, especially for new business owners trying to get their businesses off the ground. According to Bloomberg, eight out of 10 entrepreneurs who start businesses fail within 18 months of opening their doors. The Small Business Association indicates the numbers are not so dire, saying 30 percent of new businesses fail in the first two years of operation; 50 percent during the first five years; and 66 percent during the first 10.

Shop locally. Shopping locally not only supports local businesses, but it also contributes to the local economy. Shopping locally keeps money in the community, which can benefit everyone. Shopping locally produces a trickle-down effect, as local businesses that are thriving may patronize other local businesses, and so on. This, in turn, helps grow other businesses in the community, making it a nicer place to live and work. Spread the word. Word-of-mouth advertising is effective. A respected member of the community who shares a good experience with a local business may propel others to patronize the business. Speak up when you feel a business owner has provided an exceptional level of service. Recommend a company to friends and neighbors. You also may want to review a business via online
rating websites such as Yelp or Angie’s List. Attend grand openings. Each community is unique, and often the vibe of a community is defined by the businesses that call that community home. Attend grand openings to show you are invested in the quality and vitality of your community. When others see a business doing well, they may be more inclined to shop there as well. Apply for work. Another way to support a local business is to work for one. Small local businesses employ millions of people across the country, and many foster great working environments. In addition, small businesses are known for their customer service, and employees often become experts in their products and services because of the hands-on experience they gain while working for small businesses. Supporting and celebrating local businesses can instill a sense of community pride and benefit the local economy in a myriad of ways.

Determining the right amount of coverage requires a solid understanding of all your policy options as well as your financial needs and goals.
Business
If you have not purchased life insurance yet, consider sitting down with an insurance agent to discuss your situation and options. If you already have a policy, discuss with your agent if it’s still appropriate for your present situation and any lifestyle changes that may be on the horizon.
Kristine Moodie
One of the most common questions when purchasing life insurance is, “How much is enough?” The answer lies in what’s called a needs analysis. A needs analysis examines your specific financial and personal situation to help determine the type and amount of life insurance that will best satisfy your needs. One of the first decisions you will have to make when purchasing life insurance is whether to choose term or permanent coverage. Term life insurance can offer coverage from one year to 30 years or longer, and is often purchased to provide funds for financial obligations such as a mortgage or a child’s tuition in case the insured dies.
M.P.B. Builders, Inc. is a family-owned company (owned by Leo and Judy Souder), that takes pride in their employees. The building crews are managed by three foremen – Arnie Kirst, Gary Boe, and Tom Mathieu. The fabrication department is run by – Pete Souder. The drill foreman, Mark Souder whom combined with the other foremen, have over 120 years of building experience. M.P. B. Builders also operates its own trim fabrication shop, managed by Scott Souder.

Permanent life insurance, which includes whole life policies, generally provides coverage throughout a person’s life. Unlike term insurance, a permanent life policy may gradually accumulate a cash value, which you may be able to borrow against while the policy is still active or cash in upon surrender of the policy.
A needs analysis will seek answers to questions like: What are my family’s immediate and future income needs? How much supplemental income will they need to meet expenses if I were to die tomorrow? And how much can I afford to pay in premium?

Ballweg Implement is celebrating 40 years in business. Originally located in Markesan, Tom and Joan Ballweg purchased an existing John Deere dealership in 1976 with just seven employees. The business purchased another existing dealership and moved the operation to Waupun in 1998. This move allowed growth with a larger facility and centrally located to better serve our agricultural customers. A second location was purchased May 2008 in Beaver Dam. The Beaver Dam location features lawn equipment, parts and service for residential, commercial lawn and large property needs, located at 1749 N. Spring St. Today, 50 employees, factory trained service technicians, parts and sales personnel, and professional sales staff keep up on the latest developments from AMS technology to equipment enhancements with the goal of providing superior customer service. Ballweg Implement launched its own RTK network and has a knowledgeable Integrated Solutions specialist offering support that will provide optimum productivity of your AMS products.
Expansion of the Waupun facility was completed in spring 2012 with a 9,000 sq. ft. addition. Our mission is to provide quality insurance services, with the personal touch and at an economical price, to the rural and small urban communities and farms in our area. Our goal is to exceed our client’s expectations. Town Mutuals were born out of necessity. In the mid to late 1800s, farmers could not afford to purchase property insurance on their residence, personal property and outbuildings due to the cost. Stock insurance companies felt if a rural fire started, it would probably be a total loss due to the amount of time it took the fire department to arrive on the scene. This is why Stock Companies were reluctant to insure rural property. To form a company, 25 farmers were needed to insure each other’s losses. During this period, many local insurance companies started up throughout Wisconsin. At one time, there were over 300 companies. They were named Town Mutuals and owned by the policyholders of the company. They only insured for fire coverage. The idea of ‘neighbor insuring neighbor’ was

born. To this day, the policyholders own the company. These community founded companies were organized and continue to operate under the supervision of a Board of Directors elected by the policyholders. Officers know many of the policyholders personally; as they spend their everyday lives among the policyholders. They are friends and neighbors. They attend the same community activities, their problems are similar, and their interests are the same. Ramona Monacelli is the company manager. The office staff consists of Ramona, Marlys Lemmenes in book-keeping, Cheryl Ziemke as underwriter, and Rose Rentmeester as customer service agent for our Rosendale Insurance Agency, LLC. Flyway Mutual Insurance Company offers insurance needs for Farm, Home, Mobile Home, Renters, and Fire. Currently they service policyholders in twelve counties in the State of Wisconsin: Adams, Columbia, Dodge, Fond du Lac, Green Lake, Jefferson, Marquette, Sheboygan, Washington, Waukesha, Waushara, and Winnebago. The Rosendale Insurance Agency, LLC was acquired in the last merger. The agency offers Auto and Personal Umbrella. The office staff is each licensed to quote your insurance needs.

waupun area school district Aligning Education for College and Career Readiness
Business
In the 2014-2015 school year, Waupun Area School District launched a series of career academies at the Junior/Senior High School that are designed to enhance a student’s college and career readiness. Academies are small learning communities. Each academy is separated into specific career pathways. These pathways outline the courses students should take during high school to prepare for post-secondary life. Currently students are enrolled in one of three academies, which include HS2 (Health Science and Human Services); CAB (Communication, Arts and Business); or STEAMM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Agriculture, Math, and Manufacturing. The idea of a pathway is to prepare students for a full range of careers, focusing on development of a range of 21st Century skills including academics, work readiness and job-specific applications. Many students graduate from high school without clear career or educational goals and are unprepared for college or the workforce. The goal of the academy approach is to provide a

series of classes that build a foundation for students going to technical schools, colleges or straight into the workforce. By providing a solid foundation in high school, students are better able to accomplish their goals and can save time and money in their post-secondary pursuits. Preliminary results of the District’s recent facility study noted that the Career and Technical Education areas, as well as Agriculture Laboratory, are not appropriately sized or designed to support current educational programs. During a facility tour, staff talked about how much teaching and learning styles have changed significantly in recent years, with advances in technology playing a major role in this shift.Kris Beaver, an Agriculture & Business Education teacher, commented that “Our challenge is to prepare students for careers that don’t even exist yet. Learning areas need to be flexible so that they can easily adapt to changing technology and program needs; unfortunately, the current building was not designed with this approach 20 years ago.” To address these needs, Dr. Tonya Gubin, Waupun Area School District Superintendent, stated that the District is aligning their strategic plan to the facility needs in order to allow the expansion and acceleration of college/career preparation for students at the high school level. With that realization, staff is working to strengthen the academy approach through the formation of business partnerships. Since last fall, a group of community stakeholders began meeting to review opportunities for stronger collaboration between the business community and the Waupun Area Junior/Senior

High School. Officials from city government, technical colleges as well as businesses within several sectors have been dialoging and reviewing needs with District staff and administration to direct the future of Career and Technical Education in the District. As part of that effort, Business partnerships and capstone experiences are being designed to ensure that students, regardless of their academy choice, have real experience and exposure to the world of modern business and industry.
One example that will launch in the 2016-2017 school year comes from a partnership formed with Agnesian Healthcare. Agnesian will partner with the District to launch a Medical Explorers program. The program is a health sciences career exploration cooperative between Waupun Area Junior Senior High School and Waupun Memorial Hospital. The program will consist of department rotations at Waupun Memorial Hospital and supervised individual work time at the Waupun Area
Junior Senior High School, along with scheduled meeting time with a health sciences mentor. Students enrolled in the program will complete rotations in medical/surgery, emergency department, respiratory therapy, social work, physical therapy, medical imaging, clinic, lab, registration, wellness and specialized job shadow experiences. While at school, students will devote time to research and completion of various writing assignments. As part of the capstone experience, students will conduct a presentation to hospital staff. To qualify for the program students must be pursuing the HS2 pathway and have taken courses in Human Anatomy & Physiology, Medical Terminology and/or Human Body Systems. Additional partnerships are being defined in the Agriscience and Technology and Advanced Manufacturing sectors. The groups are also looking at integration of industry certifications and dual enrollment models with technical colleges as well as universities to ensure students are college and career ready upon graduation. Kathy Schlieve, Director of Economic Development and Planning for the City of Waupun commented that, “Developing and retaining a workforce with the advanced technology skills needed to support business in the future starts with ensuring our kids understand and are exposed to great opportunities that exist locally. Capstone experiences like the Health Explorers program help our kids connect to local opportunities that can get them started on the right foot, and foster relationships that hopefully help them return to our community after college to pursue their career here, locally.”

JRC is the largest independent full service auto repair in the Columbus area. We have been here nearly 26 years. We have an accumulative of over 45 years of ASE endorsed industry service. JRC is the only shop in the Columbus area that is AAA endorsed. This AAA endorsement can only be given to shops that have high customer satisfaction ratings. JRC is the Original Napa Auto Care Center in Columbus. We can make small repairs such as wiper blades, burned out light bulbs and have demonstrated to many customers that we can repair vehicles that other shops have not been able to fix right the first time. We pride ourselves in being able to do all repairs at our facility, while other shops may have to sublet portions of the vehicle service work. For example, tires do wear out, but in some instances, they get worn out due to worn suspension and misalignment. Also, a lot of new vehicles with stability control need special care when doing alignments. Here at JRC we
have the most current alignment equipment to do an alignment, as the manufacture requires. We will diagnose your vehicle, educate and explain to you, as needed, our findings and give you a quote on the repairs. We have seven courtesy vehicles that can be used by you, the customer, while your work is being performed. The only restrictions are age; you must have auto insurance and replace the fuel that you use. Customers working in other towns find this to be a great value to them. We are open at 7:30 a.m. for vehicle drop off, and vehicles can be picked up after your work hours. We are happy to help with arranging the return of your vehicle. We accept Visa, Discover and MasterCard. We offer special deals where you can receive a free tire rotation after two oil changes. We do repairs on all vehicles — foreign, domestic, light duty and some medium duty trucks, as well as light duty diesel work. We service air conditioning. Update your skills in a secure job industry The last several years have seen a series of economic ups and downs. Managing careers amid such instability has been challenging for many individuals, but professionals looking for more security can take steps to find careers that promise more long-term stability. Focusing a job search on industries that have shown strong growth and the ability to ride out waves of economic turmoil can tip the odds in your favor. Certain industries have better long-term employment outlooks than others, and men and women looking for more stability should consider these industries when pondering their next career moves.
Accounting Thanks to ever-changing financial policies and greater scrutiny placed on lending practices and bookkeeping, accounting jobs remain solid career choices. Jobs in accounting can range from entry-level to more advanced (and more lucrative) positions requiring certification or a secondary education.
Medicine Financial health does not safeguard people against illness, and health services are needed regardless of the state of the economy. That makes medical careers some of the most coveted and stable around. Healthcare professions can be lucrative, and careers in medicine are not restricted to doctors or nurses. Clinicians, medical imaging personnel and medical laboratory technicians also are needed. The United States Department of Labor lists services for the elderly and persons with disabilities, home healthcare services and other health practitioner positions among the fastestgrowing career opportunities.
Computer Systems Computer systems analysts and programming experts are highly coveted in today’s digital world. Many company operations are completely overseen by relatively autonomous computer systems. As technology keeps changing, employees who are able to stay abreast of the changes will only grow more valuable.
Builders With more money injected into the economy, homes and businesses can once again resume growth. Laborers with skills in construction, masonry and residential building, and structure contractors can count on steady employment.
Environment Clean-energy and other environmental jobs may currently make up a small percentage of employment, but reports from the Bureau of Labor Statistics indicate jobs in this sector are growing much faster than other fields, including healthcare. Workers ready to get in on the ground level may benefit from opportunities for advancement and the stability of working in a field that figures to grow considerably over the next several decades. Green jobs include work that is primarily involved in the production of green goods and services, such as renewable energy, pollution reduction and recycling. Green jobs also are those that involve education and training related to environmental compliance. Entering the job market for the first time or reentering it with a new career direction can be intimidating. Focusing education and skills on careers that are proven winners can be the security and confidence boost professionals need.

No repair is too small or too large and any make or model is welcomed into his shop. Wise Guy’s was formed in 2012 by David Weisman. Dave opened Wise Guys because he felt that customers needed an automotive repair shop that they could come to with a knowledgeable technician who they could trust. Treating customers with respect and honesty is something he strongly believes in and feels that each and every customer deserves! Dave said that “he never wanted to be a millionaire. He just wants to offer a quality product and trustworthy service.”
Dave attended MATC and received an associate’s degree as an Automotive Technician. He worked at a repair shop while going to school, then worked at a dealership in Madison for over 8 years where he received certification from Ford and Kia, hybrid trained, air conditioning certified along with many AC Delco and NAPA Certifications. He also has been a certified ASE Master Mechanic since 2003. Dave holds many other certifications and said he will never stop wanting to learn about new automotive technology. In October of 2013 Wise Guy’s received BBB Accreditation. The Better Business Bureau determined that Wise Guy’s Auto Repair, LLC. met the BBB accreditation standards, which include a commitment to make a good faith effort to resolve any consumer complaints. This past year Wise Guy’s became a distributor of Snow Dogg Plows & Salt Spreaders. He not only sells them, but services them and can get parts.
Though resume writing has changed considerably over the years, some conventional wisdom about resumes still prevails, and how closely potential applicants adhere to these rules goes a long way toward determining if they earn a chance at an interview. Me, myself and I: While the resume should showcase your professional accomplishments, it also should showcase how your skills relate to the job you’re applying for. This way the company understands you have researched the position and are in tune with what they’re looking for in an applicant. One document for all responses: A resume is not a static document. It needs to change depending on the job you’re applying to. Although there will be certain information that can remain the same, update the skills and other information based on each position. Wise Guy’s appreciates and is dedicated to their customers. Here are what a few customers had to say… Rodrigo M. This is a very friendly, effective, and efficient place. My car lost its serpentine belt and water pump in the middle of the night, as I was going home about 75 miles from here... Mr. Weisman arranged his schedule to meet mine and got the job superbly done within a few hours. He even sent someone to pick me up at the hotel! I don’t recall better service anywhere.
Des D. Wise Guy’s in Columbus is the only auto shop I trust. The staff is friendly and Dave is the nicest, most helpful person I have met. Not only does he do everything he can to make mine and my boyfriend’s auto experiences the best, but he also educates us on our cars and what he repaired! Recently I tried going to another car repair center, and they told me I needed to spend $2600 to fix my car. When I got a second opinion at Wise Guy’s, they informed me half of the original quote was incorrect and quoted me at $913. They made the re-diagnosed repairs and my car is running great. I won’t make the mistake of going somewhere else again. Thanks Wise Guys! :)

contain a long job history, don’t be afraid to submit a two-page resume. Failing to be selective: You need not include your entire job history on a resume, especially if certain past positions you have held are completely irrelevant to the position for which you are applying. Don’t be afraid of job gaps, either. Many of today’s recruiters understand that the changing economy can make it challenging to maintain steady employment. Overembellishment: Do not embellish your skills. Always be open and honest on your resume. You may be asked to prove you can perform certain tasks, and if you cannot back up what is included on a resume, you will have wasted your time and the time of the interviewer. Imperfections: A resume is a reflection of you, so one with typographical errors or a poor layout is never acceptable. Ensure your resume is as professional and error-free as possible. Have a friend or a proofreader look it over before distributing. Paid positions: Internships or volunteer work are perfectly acceptable to include on a resume, particularly for younger applicants who may not have a wealth of professional experience. Include a mix of information on the resume that will reflect your versatility.

Great service! Honest! All auto shops should take a lesson from their book. Won’t go anywhere else.
Aaron B. Wise Guy’s is the best, hands down. They’re professional and provide fast, top quality service, all at a really reasonable price. I’ve taken my vehicle there multiple times for multiple types of jobs and I’ve never had any problems whatsoever. Dave, the owner, is a great guy. I don’t know why anyone in the area would go to any other auto repair shop. Also, their bathroom is crazy nice and they have really good coffee.

The Columbus City Hall auditorium renovation plans have always been of interest to Daniel Amato along with his wife Rose, owners and operators of the Columbus Antique Mall since 1983. In 1976, Amato – then a city council member – and other council members, in preparation for the United States bicentennial celebration, had the Columbus City Hall, built in 1892, sandblasted for the celebration. With many attempts being made in the past by various groups, the city hall auditorium has not been refurbished to date, but there are current plans being made by the newly formed Broadway Theater group to revitalize this old theater. Amato was the president of the 1992 City of Columbus Quincentennial Celebration (1492 to 1992), which was held on Columbus Day. Columbus Day programs were previously held in the auditorium from 1987 to 1995. These various events that Amato was involved in have inspired him to commission the now-completed and displayed “Life Cycle of the Columbus Red Bud Tree.” These eight pastel chalks were commissioned in 2006 with
Also, on display in the lounge are Christopher Columbus Capodimonte Porcelain statue groupings from Amato’s collection, dated 1990, by artist Luciano Cazzola and 1992 Cortese (deceased) groupings, a Dale Chihuly 212 violet Persian pair from his gallery at Aria, Las Vegas, Nev. Also on display are fourteen 40-inch-by-60-inch black and white, color enlarged photos taken by Amato on their travels in the “Footsteps of Columbus.” The Amatos have visited 70 countries throughout the world since 1987. The Christopher Columbus Museum is located inside the antique mall and includes a comprehensive educational display of more than 2,000 quality souvenir types, making it an active, expanding world-class display from Chicago’s 1893 World’s Columbian Expo (World’s Fair). It contains 3000 square feet of exhibit, 300 running feet wall of space and 80 display cases of comprehensive subject matter honoring 500 years of the discovery of America by Christopher Columbus.

duffy grain, Inc.
Business
Duffy Bros., Inc was established in 1928. The business focused on hauling milk for area farmers, and later branched out into livestock hauling. Over time, the focus of the business shifted toward operating as a grain elevator to help local cash crop farmers find a market for their grain. Duffy Grain, Inc. was established in 1976. In 2002, a second location was built near Marshall to reach new markets by rail. Duffy Grain is licensed by the state of Wisconsin as a grain dealer and by the federal
government as a grain warehouse keeper. We offer our customers several marketing options including forward price contracting, minimum price contracts, deferred price contracts and grain storage. We also offer grain drying and we operate a fleet of trucks that allow us to offer grain-hauling services to our customers. Between our Columbus and Marshall locations, we have over 4.5 million bushels of storage space, which allows us to be in the grain receiving and shipping business year around, serving as a link between grain producer and end user. We are a price neutral business, so we can meet the needs of producers and end users in a way that makes both more profitable. Our main goal is to help farmers consistently make a profit. Profitable farming brings more money from the market into our community making it a stronger community. We are a family owned independent alternative for grain producers. We take a lot of pride in providing producers with a good market and top-notch service.

How to help and support schools Good schools help to harbor a strong sense of community. Children often make their first friends at school, and parents often meet their neighbors through school-sponsored activities.
Students and school districts face a new set of challenges each year. Many of them can be remedied or made less daunting with the help of volunteers. Here are some of the many ways men and women can support the schools in their communities.
· Practice open communication. Parents of children in the school should become familiar with teachers and the staff in the school. Find a balance between being involved and being intrusive. Joining the PTA is one way to be active in the goings-on of the school. When the opportunity arises, exercise your right vote on proposed policy changes and programs. Show an interest in your children’s assignments and ask to meet with teachers if the need arises. Doing so illustrates to the teacher that there is a connection at home and they’re not alone in the journey.
· Participate in school fundraisers. Schools may not have enough money to cov-
er all of their needs, and fundraisers are vital to the success of many schools. Fundraisers may provide money for the entire school or be collected for particular efforts, such as new technology or athletic uniforms. While you don’t have to get behind every fundraiser, participating in just a few can help the school raise needed funds.
· Keep a clean campus. Students and parents can work together to keep the school and surrounding areas clean. Organize trash pickup days when participants gather and dispose of litter. Parents also can pitch in to make school grounds more aesthetically appealing. Donate and plant flowers or trees, and encourage groups that meet at the school, such as Boy and Girl Scout troops, to donate their time and effort as well.
· Donate books to the library. Members of the community can ensure students have plenty of reading materials available to them

by donating used books in good condition to the school library. If you can afford it, purchase new books on summer reading lists and donate them to the school library. Schools also may appreciate donated subscriptions to magazines, newspapers and other periodicals.
· Send in complete supplies. Teachers often ask parents to supplement supplies for their classrooms. Remember to send in what
is requested when school supply lists are given to students. This helps classrooms run more efficiently and may reduce out-of-pocket expenditures for teachers. Schools are an integral part of many communities. Explore the many ways to support schools with donations, volunteerism and more.

How giving back can be so good Charitable endeavors made by celebrities and other prominent people often make the news. However, millions of regular people across the country and out of the limelight also do their share to help the various groups fighting for good causes.
feeling of euphoria that’s measurable and can produce some positive side effects. Boston College researchers discovered that the joy from helping others can be seen on MRI scans. This euphoria can help decrease chronic pain, depression and disability.
People have various reasons for getting involved in philanthropic efforts. A Gallup survey on volunteering in the United States found that more than half of volunteers do it because they like helping others. Just about 40 percent said they volunteer to feel good about themselves.
· Giving back boosts longevity. A 1999 study out of University of California, Berkeley, found that elderly people who volunteered for two or more organizations were 44 percent less
likely to die over a five-year period than those who did not volunteer, even after adjusting for a person’s age, exercise habits, general health, and negative habits like smoking. More recent studies have uncovered similar results. People who give help rather than just receiving it can prolong their lives.
interests. People who are new to an area or are recent retirees may find that volunteering helps them make new friends, alleviating feelings of isolation. Volunteer work also provides a great way to network for business contacts or to find out what’s newsworthy in the community.
· Charity work can keep you connected. Volunteering is a great way to get out and meet new people who share similar goals and
· Volunteerism boosts self-esteem. Working with a nonprofit or charitable group often provides immediate results. In turn, this immediate gratification can show you that you have a purpose and are assisting others who need a helping hand. Volunteer work can help you become more confident and assertive and provide you with a greater sense of self-worth.
As many volunteers already know, people who give get something in return. Here are just a few ways why giving back can be good for you.
· Giving can inspire others. Many researchers have determined that giving can be contagious. For example, a study by James Fowler of the University of California, San Diego, and Nicholas Christakis of Harvard that was published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Science found that giving can have a trickle-down effect. Much like the “pay it forward” movement, those who observe charitable efforts are more likely to give to or help different people down the road.
· Volunteer work broadens your skills. Volunteer work allows many people to learn entirely new sets of skills. New opportunities may present problem-solving challenges, and you can discover new ways to think about issues and causes that are dear to you. Volunteering may feel good, but it also can boost your re^asume^a. The experience you gain working with a charity can help you in future professional endeavors.
Charitable work can benefit the people on the receiving end of efforts, but it also is beneficial to the person doing the giving.
· Philanthropy produces a “helper’s high.” Volunteer work produces a natural

Agnesian HealthCare’s history reflects the importance of community health
Business
For the past 120 years, Agnesian HealthCare has extended its mission of hope, health and wellness to the individuals and families it serves in this region. The Congregation of Sisters of St. Agnes began this legacy of caring and compassion stepping out in faith to provide healthcare services at a time when none were present. That legacy continues today as Agnesian HealthCare is developing new ways to bring health and wellness services to individuals in need to meet the changing needs of today’s healthcare world. This equation involves offering programs and services that benefit the community. These activities range from providing free care to those unable to pay their bills, to sponsoring health improvement activities, health education, free screenings and working with partners on complex socioeconomic issues in the community. “As good stewards of our resources - both people and financial - we strive to improve
people’s well-being while creating a healthier environment,” says Steve Little, Agnesian HealthCare president and chief executive officer. “We are always working to develop collaborative relationships that help to enhance the quality of life for the individuals and families that we are fortunate to serve daily.”

widmer’s cheese cellars
back-in-action rehabilitation
Business Business In Wisconsin, the cheese-making legacy runs deep and examples of third-and fourth generation cheese makers carrying on the family tradition are common.
Joe Widmer, of Widmer’s Cheese Cellars in tiny Theresa, Wisconsin, is one such thirdgeneration example. Born into the craft and raised with his six siblings in their home above the cheese plant, Widmer has succeeded in building the business with a combination of strict adherence to tradition and savvy marketing. Widmer’s best known for producing Brick cheese and traditional stirred-curd Colby, both Wisconsin originals created in small towns nearby. But Widmer’s has also gained fame for all their award winning Cheddars, especially their four and ten year old cheddars that was an ACS blue ribbon winner in 2002, 2005, 2007, 2009, 2010 and 2014. 2014 ACS American originals, brick cheese first place for Washed Rind brick cheese and third place mild brick cheese. Joe carries on Widmer’s traditional Brick production making 385,000 lbs a year. He still uses the same open vats in the 15,000 sq. ft. facility that his grandfather bought in 1922. And, he still uses the same well-worn bricks that his grandfather used to press the whey from the cheese in their forms. Joe is credited as being the only cheese-maker in the country to continue to use real bricks as part of the make procedure.
Back In Action Rehabilitation is celebrating their 16th year of providing skilled rehab services to the local communities. Our Mayville clinic is staffed by two physical therapists, a physical therapy assistant, and an exercise assistant, all of whom have been employed with Back In Action for over 10 years. We provide advanced and effective treatment for a variety of conditions, including back and neck pain, operative & non-operative shoulder/elbow/hip/knee/ankle injuries, work and/or sport related injuries, balance/vertigo problems, and many other conditions. Typically, your initial session at Back In Action starts with a 60 minute evaluation by a licensed physical therapist. The therapist will gather a medical history, as well as a history of your current injury and limitations, and work with you to determine goals of treatment. The therapist will then conduct a detailed evaluation of your movement capabilities in efforts to determine the cause of your symptoms. With the client’s help, the therapist will then establish a plan of care with a focus of reducing pain as well as getting you back to
doing the things you enjoy, whether it be back to work or sport, participating in hobbies, or just living a painfree life. Follow-up sessions are typically 30-60 minutes at 1-3 visits/week, depending on the severity of the injury/condition. Your treatment will be provided by the same physical therapist thru-out your course of care, so that they can more effectively monitor your progress. Treatment sessions typically include skilled manual therapy (including soft tissue work/myofascial release techniques, joint mobilization/manipulation and range of motion work), instruction in a specific exercise program to target deficits found on the evaluation (including flexibility/mobility work, targeted strengthening/stabilization exercise, balance work, and movement retraining). These treatment techniques are designed to help your body move and work more efficiently and with less pain. Treatment may also include the use of ultra-sound, electrical stimulation, and therapeutic taping techniques. Most clients are also instructed in a home exercise program and/or modifications to workplace set-up or posture to maintain and progress improvement. Back In Action has also recently partnered with the TAG Center in Mayville to offer a health screening and wellness package. This begins with a one on one assessment at Back In Action with a licensed physical therapist to determine appropriate program design to target strength, flexibility, or movement impairments that may be limiting your progress with an exercise program. Prior injuries or nagging/recurring pains will also be evaluated and addressed as appropriate, whether it be instruction in
proper exercise selection or recommendations for a more formal course of physical therapy. We can also design a personalized workout program, based out of the TAG Center, to address your needs related to flexibility, strength, endurance, or balance to improve overall health. In addition to providing rehabilitation, Back In Action also looks to prevent injuries. We can provide an injury-risk assessment, in which a client or athlete is screened for any significant joint mobility, flexibility and strength deficits. The client is also put through a series of movement tests, which are designed to identify impaired movement patterns. These test scores are then compared to a database of age, gender, and sport/activity matched scores and determines whether a person may be at increased risk of an injury. A corrective program can then be designed, targeting the identified ‘weak spots’ in an effort to reduce injury risk. Back In Action Rehab offers extended appointment hours, including early morning and late evening appointments, and in most cases can offer an initial appointment within 3 days of contact. We will make every effort to be sure you are treated by the same therapist at each treatment to ensure quality and continuity of care. We are an accepted provider for over 25 insurance groups, and also provide private pay rates. Please contact our Mayville location at 920-387-9000 with any questions about our programs or services, or to schedule an appointment. Additional information can also be found at www.BackInActionRehab.com
Today, Widmer’s cheeses are sold from coast to coast. The company has 22 employees, some who have worked there since Joe was in grade school. Widmer’s product line has expanded to include many flavored variations on Colby and Cheddar, as well as convenience products such as natural Aged Brick Cheese Spread. While Widmer is considering additional product development, for now, Joe says “We’ll keep doing things the traditional way…producing some of the best cheeses in the country!”

Mike’s passion for these sports makes him a natural at sharing his knowledge, no matter what your experience level is. And if you want to catch the latest trend, you’re sure to be able to do that here as well.

Our instructors have been teaching people to fly at the Dodge County Airport since 1983. They are highly experienced, and will guide you towards accomplishing your dream. What makes us different? • Over 40 years of teaching experience. • Some teaching elements are best learned in a simulator-we have two! • Pilots come in all sizes, shapes, and genders. Your flight training needs to recognize that you are unique and different and bring that to the training program. • Work with instructors who enjoy coaching others through the training process.
Glenn Ingram started his aviation life watching commercial flights flying into and out of Chicago’s Midway Airport. His flight lessons began in a tail dragger at Stinson Airport on the southwest of Chicago, but were left unfinished until after military service, four years at Lake Forest College, getting married and having three kids. Glenn’s ratings include; Commercial with Instrument rating, Multi-Engine and Flight Instructor. Teaching is all about relating and understanding how each flight student learns then using those insights to customize the training process to fit the individual.
