INTRODUCTION
GROWING CONDITIONS FOR 2021 Seasonal precipitation and temperature at the trial sites are shown on Table 5. The 2021 growing season at most sites was warmer compared to the 30-year normal. Growing season precipitations compared to the 30-year normal was drier for southern Wisconsin and average for northern Wisconsin. Planting progress was faster than average with 50% of the acreage planted by May 3. Most trial plots were established by early May. Stand establishment was good to excellent at all locations. A late spring frost event on May 30 reduced some plant stands in commercial production fields. In southern Wisconsin, precipitation ws lower than normal prior to pollination and during early grain-filling. However,
there was just enough precipitation to carry plants along and little stress was observed visually. Ear size was larger than nomral. Tar spot, Phyllachora maydis, was significant in southern Wisconsin and disease ratings were obtained at Arlington. Isolated indcidents of Anthracnose, Colletotrichum graminicola, was observed in northern Wisconsin. Both diseases showed up late in the growing season and likely did not affect silage yield. Good growing conditions continued into late-fall with a killing frost occurring in late October. Silage and grain moisture was lower than normal. Little plant lodging occurred at most trial sites. Little disease and insect pressure were observed within most trials.
Every year, the University of Wisconsin-Extension and the University of WisconsinMadison College of Agriculture and Life Sciences conduct a corn evaluation program in cooperation with the Wisconsin Crop Improvement Association. The puppose of this program is to rpovide unbiased perfomance comparisons of hybrid seed corn for both grain and silage available in Wisconsin. In 2021, grain and silage performance trials were planted at 14 locations in four production zones — southern, south central, north central and northern. Seed companies and university researchers submitted hybrids. Companies wth hybrids included in the 2021 trials are listed in Table 1. Specific hybrids and where they were tested are shown in Table 2. A summary of the transgenic traits tested in 2021 is shown in Table 3. A summary of seed treatment perfomance in 2021 is shown in Table 4. In the back of the report, hybrids tested over the past three years are listed in Table 24. At most locations, trials were divided into early- and late-maturity trials based on the hybrid relative maturities provided by the companies. The specific maturities separating early- and late-trials are listed in the tables.

THE DATA IS IN AND OUR SILAGE LINEUP IS SEEING STARS.
Every Dairyland Seed brand silage corn entered in the 2021 Wisconsin Corn Hybrid Performance Silage Trials received a star for tons/acre, milk/ton and/or milk/acre and this means great things for your bottom line. Check out the full results to see how bright our stars shine.

OPTIONS: VT2P RIB » Excellent top-end yield potential in variable to high yield environments » Taller plant profile with a high ear placement which will offer acre flexibility » Very good grain quality and test weight with a fast dry down » Best positioned in the central to Eastern corn belt due to Goss’ Wilt issues in Western corn belt ne w! » Will have tremendous response to fungicide applications in high yield environments
OPTIONS: SSX RIB » Industry leading genetics with excellent top-end yield potential under high management systems » Excellent emergence for early planting and reduced tillage systems » Semi-flex ears with very good test weight » Very good roots and stalks and resistance to anthracnose stalk rot » Best in central and Eastern corn belt. Watchout would be greensnap in high wind western areas

89 RM
OPTIONS: VT2P RIB » Strong yields with more of a central to Eastern corn belt adaptation » Strong emergence and vigor for minimum tillage systems » Very good stress tolerance for western environments with a need to manage Goss’ Wilt areas » Nice ear flex for variable rate planting ne w! » Has potential to be used as a flexible acre hybrid for grain or silage
96 RM
OPTIONS: DGVT2P RIB » Full-flex eared hybrid for those low population, tough to variable acres, a real workhorse » Excellent grain quality and test weight with a fast dry down » Early flowering hybrid for good north of zone movement and will act more like a 95 day hybrid » Excellent emergence and seedling vigor for early season planting ne w! » Medium to tall plant type that could offer acre flexibility
