LETTER FROM THE EDITORS

You didn’t think we were one and done, did you? Back and better than ever—for the 2023 school year as an official club—MAD MODE: The Enchanted Forest Issue is here!

The natural world is a source of inspiration for many art forms, and fashion is no exception. While the environment often influences fashion through its movement, shape, and pattern, it is often exploited by the same industry that benefits from its beauty. MAD MODE intends to utilize our world’s natural artistry while staying as environmentally friendly as possible.

Long intertwined, humanity and nature are combined in this issue to capture a feeling of mysticism that transcends our everyday lives. Our campus’ expansive 376 acres served our editors well, as Madeira’s flora and fauna created the perfect photoshoot environment. Ranging from the classes of ’25 to ’22, our models highlight a natural aesthetic styled in earth tones, flowy clothing, and pieces that draw inspiration from the natural world.

So, journey into our very own enchanted forest. Who knows what awaits around the bend or who lurks behind the brush… something stylish perhaps.

The Traveler

Midi skirts and cropped cardigan tops have been circling the trends and pairing them with timeless Doc Martens and a satchel for practicality completed our traveler outfit.

We begin with the traveler. Who ever said exploring couldn’t be stylish? One of the brighter concepts of this edition, we incorporated oranges and reds into this vibrant look to capture the optimism of every adventurer.

The Elf

One of our least favorite misconceptions is that you can’t layer baggy over baggy. While it is important to hold shape with your outfit, a little bagginess never hurt anyone!

For example, our elf look features a sweater over a midi skirt, yet the lengths of both pieces complement one another.

Yet another trend circling the internet has been pairing greens and browns together, so we tied in a green scarf to add a pop of color to our overall natural hue look.

The Doe

What’s an enchanted forest issue without deer and earth tones? This is not the first time we will be layering tops under dresses, a great way to add dimension to your everyday or formal wear.

Speaking of spicing up the everyday, try tying your makeup into your outfit. Small details that correlate to the colors of your clothing will get you compliments left and right!

The Enchantress

Tights, tights, and more tights! An underrated accessory that comes in so many styles (fishnets, colored tights, ripped tights, patterned tights, etc.) they can completely change a fit.

13

Enchantress

Just look at our enchantress whose ripped tights tie in perfectly with the black mesh layer over her midnight blue dress.

The Siren

What’s an enchanted forest without a magic river? And what’s an enchanted river without a few sirens?

The greens of the silk top complement the greens of our model’s eyes beautifully and are highlighted by the glittery pink eyes and lips of this editorial style makeup.

The Nymph

We’re revisiting the theme of layering under dresses, this time in a more formal setting with our nymph.

When done correctly, monochromatic outfits can add a layer of sophistication and cohesiveness to your outfit.

Tying in accessories that fit this theme, such as our model’s flower, can help.
