Une partie du quartier du Canet, situé dans le 14eme arrondissement de Marseille va se transformer dans le cadre d’une opération d’intérêt national d’Euroméditerrannée II. Mais qu’en est-il de l’autre ? Celle où les gens tentent d’y habiter, oui vous savez ceux qui subissent congestion, bruit et pollution. Autrefois occupé par la classe ouvrière, le quartier s’est appauvri au fil des années, et notamment avec l’arrivée de l’autoroute A7. Elle constitue à l’échelle du quartier une coupure urbaine infranchissable sur plusieurs kilomètres, et entraîne avec elle sa propre géographie, tracée de manière linéaire et uniforme dans le paysage. Comment améliorer les conditions de vie de ces populations actuellement riveraines de l’autoroute? Comment réussir à connecter ces territoires à l’échelle métropolitaine et locale de manière juste et équitable? Il s’agira de s’inscrire dans une continuité de la politique de renouvellement urbain de la ville, et reculer à nouveau cette autoroute. Et de faire de ce morceau de ville, un nouveau support pour la fabrique de la ville.
Part of the Canet district, located in the 14th arrondissement of Marseille, will be transformed as part of an operation of national interest: Euromediterrannée II. But what about the other one? The one where people try to live, you know those who suffer from congestion, noise, and pollution. Once occupied by the working class, the district has become poorer over the years, particularly with the arrival of the A7 motorway called ‘Motorway of the sun’. At the scale of the district, it constitutes an impassable urban divide over several kilometers, and brings with it its geography, drawn linearly and uniformly in the landscape. How can we improve the living conditions of these populations currently living along the highway? How can we successfully connect these territories at the metropolitan and local levels fairly and equitably? It will be a question of continuing the city’s urban renewal policy and moving this motorway backward once again. And to make this part of the city new support for the city’s factory.

Malgré les problèmes que l’Autoroute génère, cette portion de route se caractérise par des séquences paysagères ! spectaculaires ". Cette infrastructure constitue une réserve foncière précieuse. Il s’agira de la récupérer à la fois au service d’une nouvelle mobilité mais aussi comme un lieu de promenade. Elle agira comme un révélateur du paysage urbain naturel: des pré-existences sont révélées, la poésie des lieux sublimée. La forme linéaire de l’autoroute peu à peu s’efface au profit d’une nature qui reprend progressivement ses droits.
Despite the problems that the Highway generates, this stretch of road is characterized by !spectacular" landscape sequences. This infrastructure is a valuable land reserve. It will have to be recovered both as a means of new mobility and as a place to walk. It will act as a revealer of the natural urban landscape: preexistence are revealed, the poetry of the places sublimated. The linear shape of the motorway is gradually disappearing in favor of a nature that is gradually regaining its rights.

Le Canet souffre d’une carence en offre sportive, récréative et culturelle, il s’agira d’y implanter de nouveaux équipements. Cette infrastructure aujourd’hui monofonctionnelle, se voudra pluri-fonctionnelle et perméable. Ces activités prendront place parfois sur l’infrastructure existante, parfois sur ses abords, en venant profiter d’opportunités foncières.
Le Canet suffers from a lack of sports, recreational and cultural facilities, it will be a question of installing new equipment. This infrastructure, which is now monofunctional, will be multi-functional and permeable. These activities will sometimes take place on the existing infrastructure, sometimes on its surroundings, taking advantage of land opportunities.
En effet, la ruine d’infrastructure offre une vaste étendue minérale aux piétons et aux sportifs, et constitue un lieu où le vide rend tout possible: les marchés forains, le théâtre de rue, les animations, l’arrivée du tour de France cycliste, la braderie du Canet, le foot sur écran géant, les concerts, la foire aux fleurs, les rendez-vous amoureux, les snacks de midi … Le support peut être immuable, et les pratiques elles peuvent changer, évoluer dans le temps au gré des désirs des habitants. Indeed, the ruined infrastructure offers a vast mineral expanse to pedestrians and sportsmen, and constitutes a place where emptiness makes everything possible: fairground markets, street theatre, entertainment, the arrival of the cycling tour de France, the Canet sale, football on a giant screen, concerts, the flower fair, romantic dates, lunch snacks... The artists’ house
Pour compléter la formation artistique, deux entrepôts qui bordent la rizerie sont déplacés, et les espaces vacants bordants l’autoroute sont ré-investis. Ils constituent eux aussi un nouveau foncier pour la fabrique de la ville de demain. Le projet se développe sur trois plateaux de nivellements qui s’inscrivent naturellement au plus près de la topographie du site. Cette disposition en plateaux permet la mise en place d’ensembles bâtis, reliés en partie haute par une toiture accessible, support de nouvelles pratiques. Les constructions sont ainsi implantées de façon à limiter l’impact construit, mais surtout de conserver des porosités.
To complete the artistic training, two warehouses bordering the rice mill were moved, and vacant spaces bordering the highway were re-invested. They also constitute a new land for the factory of the city of tomorrow. The project is being developed in three leveling plateaus that naturally fit as closely as possible to the topography of the site. This arrangement in trays allows the installation of built units, connected at the top by an accessible roof, supporting new practices. The constructions are thus implemented in such a way as to limit the impact built, but above all to preserve porosities.

La maison des artistes, point culminant du Serpentin, comprend Ateliers et Logements. Les ateliers situés en partie basse s’ouvrent sur l’extérieur afin de prolonger les espaces de travail. Les logements eux se situent aux étages supérieurs. L’objectif est d’accueillir des artistes à différents stades de leur carrière et de leur vie, on y trouve différentes typologies. Les locataires peuvent choisir de partager les pièces de vie avec leurs voisins par le biais de doubles portes dans des murs de séparation: une forme de co-logement flexible et optionnelle.
The artists’ house, the highest point of the Serpentine, includes Workshops and Accommodation. The workshops located in the lower part open onto the outside to extend the workspaces. The housing is located on the upper floors. The objective is to welcome artists at different stages of their careers and lives, there are different typologies. Tenants can choose to share living rooms with their neighbors through double doors in partition walls: a flexible and optional form of cohousing.
La scène, espace de représentation, accueille une programmation régulière. Intérieure comme extérieure elle offre plusieurs genres d’événements. The stage, a performance space, hosts a regular program. Both inside and out, it offers several types of events.
La Scène
La formation artistique vient s’implanter dans l’ancienne Rizerie Franco-Indochinoise. Les espaces dédiés à l’apprentissage de la photographie, du cinéma ou de la peinture, ne sont pas figés mais mis à disposition de tous. Au bâtiment existant, s’ajoute désormais une structure légère permettant aux apprentis artistes de profiter du soleil marseillais.
The artistic training is established in the former Franco-Indochinese Rizerie. The spaces dedicated to the learning of photography, cinema or painting, are not fixed but made available to all. In addition to the existing building, there is now a light structure allowing apprentice artists to enjoy the Marseille sun.

UNE AMISE A DISTANCE LIGHT SKIN
Les Catalans / Implanter des équipements, impulser une nouvelle dynamique Salle expérimentale / re-définition d’une salle existante avec une stratégie multi-usages Les Catalans / Implementing equipment, promote a new dynamic Experimental room / re-design of an existing room with a multi-functional strategy Les Catalans, petite plage nichée au coeur de Marseille, invisible depuis la rue mais cependant très fréquenté par les marseillais. Pour ce projet de nouvelle école de la république, se mettre à distance est apparu comme une nécessité. Celle-ci vient remplacer les anciens hangars Giraudon, et une différence de niveaux entre plateforme et plage, permet de surélever l’école. Les écoliers bénéficient d’une vue privilégiée sur la mer tout en n’étant pas visible depuis la partie basse de la plateforme. La création d’un socle permet ainsi à l’école de bénéficier de l’intimité nécessaire à son bon fonctionnement, mais également de venir y installer des commerces pour redynamiser les abords de la plage. La typologie du projet prend la forme d’un L en RDC, puis d’une typologie à patio en R+1. Cette superposition de formes permet à la cour de bénéficier d’une grande surface ombragée, d’être protégée du mistral, et d’ouvrir la vue sur la mer. Les salles de classes, elles qui se trouvent à l’étage, s’organisent autour d’un patio, afin de créer une intériorité. Le bardage en aluminium, rappelle les anciens hangars et l’architecture navale des ports. L’école semble flotter dans le paysage.
The Catalans, a small beach nestled in the heart of Marseille, invisible from the street but still very popular. For this school project, standing at a distance appeared a necessity. This school has replaced the old Giraudon hangars, and a difference of levels between platform and beach allows to elevate the school. Schoolchildren enjoy a privileged view of the sea while invisible from the lower part of the platform. The creation of a base allows the school to benefit from the necessary intimacy for its proper functioning, but also set up shops around in order bring life to the surroundings of the beach. The typology of the project takes the form of an L at the ground floor, then a typology with patio at the upper level. This superposition of forms allows the playground to enjoy a large shaded area, to be protected from the Mistral wind, and to have a view on the sea. The classrooms, which are upstairs, are distributed around a patio so as to create interiority. The aluminium cladding is reminiscent of the old sheds and the naval architecture of ports. The school seems to be floating in the landscape.
03 A LIGHT SKIN
Travail expérimental / Valoriser et requalifier un espace existant Experimental Room / Valorize and requalify an existing space
L’idée principale de ce projet a été d’établir une relation forte entre matérialité et lumière afin de créer un sentiment d’intimité en opposition avec la transparence de l’enveloppe. L’objectif est de procurer des sensations, des émotions à l’usager. L’espace est dépourvu de fonctions pré-déterminées ce qui permet une multiplicité d’usages. L’enveloppe en plexiglas permet d’illuminer la pièce de manière diffuse. Tandis que l’utilisation d’une trame permet un espace flexible avec diffèrentes fonctions. Les élèments de mobiliers peuvent être stockés facilement afin d’offrir une traversée fluide dans la pièce. Cet espace devient alors un espace de rencontres, un espace partagé, un lieu de pause.
The main idea of my project was to establish a strong relationship between material and light so as to create a feeling of intimacy in contrast to the transparency of the envelope, to create an unusual feeling. The main idea is to provide sensations and emotions to the user. When we are in the House, we lose time-related landmarks. I wanted a pure space without pre-determined function or ornament, with many possibilities. A plastic envelope illuminated the space with diffuse light and the use of a framework permits to have a flexible space with different functions. The table and stools can easily be stored or even hidden. And the room can thus be crossed in a fluid way. This room then becomes a shared space, a meeting point where people can rest and interact.
04 BELLE BELSUNCE
Architecture, partage et processus / Espace public et espace intime Architecture, sharing and process / Public space and intimate space
Belsunce est un quartier dense, en plein coeur de Marseille, qui est témoin d’urbanismes et de constructions successives. L’Implantation de la gare St Charles à la fin du 19e siècle, marque le début des flux migratoires, et le quartier devient cosmopolite. ! C’est un quartier ou l’on ne fait que passer " selon une habitante du quartier. Les ruelles sont étroites, et non adaptées à un usage partagé entre voitures et piétons. L’idée serait donc de piétonnier certaines rues pour créer un parcours ! lent " dans le quartier, tout en maintenant la voiture qui nous semble importante aujourd’hui dans Belsunce. Le circuit piéton permet différentes connexions dans le quartier et de révéler de nouveaux lieux. En effet, Belsunce est un quartier sous-équipé, un deuxième axe semble alors essentiel: l’ajout d’équipements, dans des interstices, des sites avec des opportunités foncières. Valoriser et requalifier ces espaces existants permettrait d’activer ces lieux, créer des espaces publics ouverts, des lieux d’attractivité.
Belsunce is a dense area, in the heart of Marseille, which is a witness to urban planning and successive constructions. The establishment of St Charles Train Station in the late 19th century marked the beginning of migration, and the area became cosmopolitan. “It’s a neighbourhood where you just pass” according to a neighbourhood resident. The alleys are narrow, and unsuitable for shared use between cars and pedestrians. The idea would be to dedicate some streets to pedestrians in order to create a “slow” route in the neighbourhood while maintaining the use of cars, which seems important to us today in Belsunce. The pedestrian circuit would allow different connections in the neighbourhood and reveal new places. Indeed, Belsunce is an underequipped area, so a second axis seems necessary: the addition of equipment, in the interstices, sites with land opportunities. Valorizing and re-qualifying these existing spaces would activate these places, create open public spaces, centers of attractiveness.

Un premier aménagement a été réalisé sur ce site: la mise en place d’un City stade en 2016. Mais une partie de la parcelle reste en friche avec un bâtiment à valeur patrimoniale. Il s’agit d’un ilot en attente de requalification urbaine. L’idée et de supprimer les murs d’enceintes afin de rendre l’ilot traversant. On valorise un espace résiduel en y déployant un tapis de jeu qui remonte sur les murs. Les pignons en attente de requalification deviennent alors source de projet. On réorganise l’existant, pourtpermettre de nouveaux usages, et faciliter la traversée de l’ilot: par la grimpe, par la glisse, par la course et la marche. L’intervention se développe sur une pré-existence. On réinvestit le bâtiment protégé pour en faire un espace culturel et sportif. Aux étages, des plateaux libres permettent une mixité d’usages. On obtient alors un espace polyvalent qui multiplie l’univers des possibles.
A first development was made on this site: a City Stadium was established in 2016 but part of the plot remains fallow with a building with heritage value. It is a block waiting for urban re-qualification. The idea would be to remove the outer walls to make the block dual access. A residual space would be enhanced by a play mat spreading up to the Walls. The gables ends awaiting requalification would then become a source of project. What already exists is reorganized to allow new uses, and make the block easier to cross climbing, slipping, running and walking through. The intervention develops on a pre-existing matter. The protected building is reinvested to make it a cultural and sporting space. On its different floors, free open spaces allow a mix of uses. A multipurpose space is created that multiplies possibilities.
Les espaces sont partagés entre différentes activités en vis à vis les unes des autres. Un sol uniforme, et un marquage léger permettent de proposer différentes activités sportives sans jamais les figer. Ce lieu de rencontre devient alors un espace dynamique et attractif dans le quartier.
The spaces are shared between various activities in relation with one another. A uniform ground, and a light marking allow to propose different sporting activities without needing to freeze them. This meeting place would then become a dynamic and attractive space in the neighbourhood.
L’OASIS
Le projet de l’oasis se situe sur l’îlôt des bains, sur lequel les bains les plus anciens de Marseille s’y trouvait. C’est donc un Ilot qui a un lien fort à l’eau. On trouve deux éléments remarquables sur cet ilot: une grande cheminée, et l’ancien bâtiment des ! Grands Bains et étuves ". On réapproprie des bâtiments existants dans l’ilot pour répondre à des besoins. On réinvestit le bâtiment de l’entrée pour en faire un café qui articule le passage de la rue au coeur d’ilot. Dans le bâtiment à valeur patrimoniale on installe une auberge, et on place des douches publiques dans le bâtiment à patio. On réinvestit la friche pour en faire un lieu de pause, d’arrêt dans le quartier, en lien à l’eau. L’installation de gradins, deviens alors une opportunité de gérer la pente. On peut s’asseoir, s’allonger, prendre un bain de soleil; se rafraichir avec un miroir d’eau.
The project of the oasis is located on an urban island, on where the oldest baths of Marseilles stood. It is therefore a block that has a strong connection to water. We can find 2 remarkable elements there: a large chimney, and the old building !Great Baths and Steam Rooms". Existing buildings on the block are re-appropriated to meet new needs. The entrance building is reinvested to make a coffee shop that articulates the passage from the street to the heart of the parcel. In the heritage building, a Hostel is set up and public showers are placed in the patio building. The wasteland is occupied to make it a place to stay and rest in the neighbourhood, in connection with the water. Installing bleachers then becomes an opportunity to manage the slope. People can sit, lie down, sunbath, cool down thanks to a water mirror.
Ces douches/sanitaires publics permettraient un accès à l’eau pour tous. En effet, dans Belsunce les hôtels ne sont pas toujours équipés de douches, les logements ne possèdent pas tous de sanitaires aux normes. Des Douches publiques à Belsunce répondraient à des besoins. Depuis 30 ans, il n’existe plus aucune douche publique dans Marseille. Dans ce projet, l’objectif est de proposer des douches gratuites dans un cadre agréable et intime. The entrance to the project area is through a courtyard that distributes the different spaces. Reception for the hostel and the showers is shared. These public showers / toilets would provide access to water for all. Indeed, in Belsunce the hotels are not always equipped with showers, the accommodations are not all equipped with sanitary facilities. Public showers in Belsunce would meet real needs. For 30 years, there has no longer been any public showers in Marseille. In this project, the goal is to offer free showers in a pleasant and intimate setting.

En 2001, l’installation des premiers grossistes: chinois Wenzhou transforment l’activité économique de Belsunce Ce parking est alors un élément important dans le quartier, car il participe à son économie par sa position centrale et sa proximité avec les commerces. L’idée est d’associer deux espaces distincts, pour: récréer une unité tout en préservant les usages présents. Trouver un équilibre entre les usages, et offrir des espaces appropriables et mutables. Le projet serait d’offrir un nouvel usage tout en conservant les places de stationnement existantes nécessaires aujourd’hui dans le quartier. C’est un espace public central, qui pourrait être approprié et utilisé par les habitants. L’idée serait d’utiliser une structure légère et modulable pour différentes appropriations. Cette structure évoluerait avec le temps et avec l’éventuelle disparition de la voiture. Dans un premier temps on réorganise les places de parking sur deux niveaux en conservant le nombre de places existantes.
In 2001, the installation of the first wholesalers: Chinese Wenzhou transform the economic activity of Belsunce. This parking lot is then an important element in the district,as it participates in its economy by its central position and its proximity to the shops . The idea is to combine two distinct spaces, to - recreate unity while preserving the present uses, find a balance between uses and provide suitable and mutable spaces. The project would be to provide a new use while retaining the existing parking spaces needed today in the neighborhood. It is a central public space which could be inhabited and used by the residents. The idea would be to use a lightweight and modular structure for different purposes. This structure could evolve over time and with the possible disappearance of cars. The first step would be to reorganize the parking spaces on two levels while retaining the amount of available spaces.
Une bande de service vient faire la liaison entre le parking et la place. Elle peut accueillir une buvette, des sanitaires et une ludothèque. Avec la disparition totale de la voiture la structure du parking pourrait muter en marchÊ couvert.
A service strip connects the car park and the square. It can accommodate a refreshment room, toilets and a games library. After a total disappearance of cars, the structure of the car park could mutate into a covered market.

Architecture d’Entreprise / Créer un lieu d’attractivité évolutif au service de la mobilité Corporate Architecture / Create an attractive and flexible place for mobility
La mobilité, facteur clé du développement d’un territoire, est une opportunité de repenser l’espace et l’architecture de la ville. Ce projet a pour ambition de devenir un espace de rencontre et d’innovation. On y étudie des modes de transport tournés vers l’avenir et respectueux de l’environnement, mais également des moyens alternatifs tels que le partage de voitures, de vélos. Le projet consiste à développer un bâtiment qui se démarque dans l’espace par son concept architectural et urbain afin de refléter les valeurs de l’entreprise. La compagnie Ford va évoluer au fil des années et l’espace doit pouvoir accepter des éventuels changements. Il était donc essentiel de réfléchir à une certaine flexibilité et à une conception modulaire. On commence avec une forme, le carré, que l’on applique ensuite à une grille. Sur cette grille, la structure poteaux/ poutres, permet de se libérer des murs et d’établir un jeu entre les différents opacités de verre.
Mobility, a key factor in the development of territory, is an opportunity to redesign the space and architecture of the city. This project aims to become a place for meeting and innovation. Future-oriented and environmentallyffriendly modes of transportation are being explored, as well as alternative devices such as car and bicycle sharing. The project is to develop a building that stands out in space by its architectural and urban concept to reflect the values of the company. Ford will evolve over the years and this space must be able to adapt to any changes. It therefore seemed essential for me to contemplate flexibility and modular design. I started with a shape, a square, that I applied to a grid. Le climat d’Ouganda est différent du notre et le premier travail a été de comprendre les spécificités et les méthodes de constructions traditionnelles. Dans la ville de Kampala, la pluie est régulière, les vents sont faibles, et les températures moyennes assez élevées. Le projet a donc été de créer un bâtiment couvert pour les précipitations, mais cependant ventilé pour la chaleur, en utilisant un toit surélevé et des larges circulations. L’objectif est de combiner une certaine tradition, avec l’emploi de matériaux locaux, avec une modernité dans les usages, et le fonctionnement. La trame permet des stands modulables selon la demande pour un projet flexible et évolutif dans le temps. L’extérieur et l’intérieur ne font qu’un, l’édifice peut interagir avec la nature environnante. En effet, le toit, séparé du reste du bâtiment permet des vues sur le paysage, de favoriser la ventilation; tandis que les panneaux solaires en toiture supportent intégralement les besoins énergétiques du marché.
The Climate of Uganda is very particular and I was first interested in the specificities and traditional methods of construction. In Kampala, it rains regularly; the winds are weak and the average temperature of the year is pretty high. The project was to create a covered building because of the rainfall but still very ventilated because of the heat, using raised roof and large circulations. The goal was to combine tradition, with the use of local materials, and modernity in form and use. Thanks to the use of a grid, the market stalls can vary, and be fully adjustable, depending on demand. The project aims at being flexible and scalable. The indoor and the outdoor are strongly connected, the building is open on the outside and interacts with the surrounding nature. Indeed, the roof, separated from the rest of the building, opens a view on the surrounding landscape, favors internal ventilation and the solar panels supply the electricity needs of the market.
