ife is a busy, busy play. We run around and dance for people, creating something of worth while at work, creating relationships with people, creating our history. Maeza is a change in our dance, a change in how we express ourselves to the world. Changing direction in life leads to a completely new environment where the rules of your old life wash away and new ways of behaving, creating and working are presented. To take this much new information and process it can be difficult, evoking feelings of helplessness and defeat when you fail to meet up to idealised goals. Even the smallest idealisation, "I'll clean the whole kitchen, bake a cake and finish two paintings", can cause dismay at the end of the day when your cake is store bought. Being overwhelmed by life isn't surprising as the world moves so quickly around us, wanting something stable or somewhere to run away is a reaction that we have to stand up toto make ourselves strong. When we meet life with an open heart and take our challenges

Editor’s Note as climbing frames and playground forts to conquer rather than deadly wind wound mountains it is possible to create something great, or, at least, get work done.

You can trace our history from issue one, a slide show essentially, to now where we are beginning to find out what part of the dance we play. If you want to be a part of our development and guide our expression: don't be shy, drop us an email meaza.magazine@gmail.com (see we don't even have our own email domain!).

Enjoy #7 MAEZA

What social media to use as an illustrator? ...and how much should I post? The two important questions discussed this month in the group Fritzi.Flock, a community group founded by Johanna Fritz for people to help build up their illustration business. Here's what we found out. acebook requires work, the group love it for it's diary style and networking characteristics. You get much closer interactions with people and build relationships...but! You have to make it happen yourself, get active and join an art group that has a project and spend time with them. Post about once a week with a story behind your art.

nstagrams purely visual 'posts as a portofolio' style is by far the most favoured platform. Smart use of hashtags can bring you closer to fellow artists, even bring potential clients or art directors, and, don't forget those precious fellow followers. Instagram integrates other platforms into its sharing cycle, making handling social media easier. One down side is the accessibility of the program from a computer rather than a mobile device. If you want to use the app on your computer you can always run Android on a virtual machine (our editor likes VirtualBox because it's simple), but it can be fiddly getting your pictures on it (ed: don't be scared).

Google+ and Tumblr (which is a blogging platform), weren‘t mentioned, and neither were the artist focussed platforms, such as Behance, Deviantart, and Flickr. It might seem overwhelming to start building a social circle on a new platform, but once you let go of the idea of controlling your media (what a weird thing to say anyway, controlling internet...) and focusing on your mission, the mission to Art, it evolves automatically and suddenly you have it!

#21monthsofpaint Last issue we introduced the

ask her about her experienced with

challange proposed by August Wren,

the new community.

Meighan O‘Toole, Courtney Cerruti , and Erika Lee Sears. The result is dazzling! Scrolling through the hashtag #12monthsofpaint on Instagram now will immerse you in a sea of blue. Patterns, lettering, abstract objects, and nature have been embraced. We have asked some of our fellow artists, to share their pictures with you. We are also very excited that we had a chance to talk to August Wren and

M: Is your goal of creating a comunity coming along well? A:Yes, people jumped in from the first hour of us announcing it! I think for people participating it helps to have a worldwide momentum going and it keeps one excited to add to the group. Our goal is to get people creating and it has worked well.

MAEZA:Which interpretaions of blue surprised you the most? August Wren: I was so impressed with the incredible variety of artwork, from animals, portraits, flowers, lettering. Minimalist to filling every bit of the page with marks. Watercolor, pencil, collage. It’s so inspiring to see how different artists work and how they interpret a pretty broad theme. M: How do you feel having attracted so many people to participate in your challenge? A: That is the most surprising part of this whole challenge. We chose the hashtag #12monthsofpaint because there were no pictures attached to it yet and now we have over 2600 posts in 5 weeks!! I am so glad that our challenge has inspired so many in the community to create. It feels special.

M: How do you manage your time between arting and engaging in the community? A:That is the hardest part for me, I’d love to like and comment on every piece that comes through but there are just so many that I can’t. I do look at them all though and it inspires me as well. My own work does need to come first though so I need to put aside only a certain amount of time per day to concentrate on the challenge. Everyone should know that I am seeing and feeling so thrilled and excited about what is happening!! We can‘t wait what February will bring with the new topic: Portraits. Thanks to Augustwren for finding time for our questions.
