Co-management empowers municipalities to share in responsible forest management Innovative elements l Provides strong incentive to protect and sustainably use forest resources l Provides basis for issuance of subagreements with households and groups l Creates Provincial and Municipal Technical Working Groups (TWGs) that facilitate the Community-based Forest Management (CBFM) process l Formulates a Forest Land Use Plan (FLUP) with those directly affected to reach a common management objectives and solve conflicts l Empowers forest communities with technical and business know-how l Creates value in the protection of the whole forests including Critical Habitats for the protection of endangered species Expected main costs and contribution DENR l Forest Land Use Plan and Co-Management Agreement FLUP preparation and its approval; and signing of a MOA with the LGU l Land-use Subagreements Farm planning assistance l Reforestation (various categories) Assistance in site mapping and delineation, Global Positioning System / Geographical Information System, site-species matching, nursery operations, planting and maintenance activities l Low Impact Community-based Timber Harvesting Advise on resource use planning, forest inventory, Resource Use Permit approval and logging operation monitoring
Municipality or City l Forest Land Use Plan and Co-Management Agreement Cost: PhP400,000 per LGU or ca. PhP40 / ha l Land-use subagreements Cost: ca.
