TALKING TO MILENA KRAHULCOVA IS LIKE getting caught in the middle of a hurricane. There is so much to know about her and yet each new facet about her is a pleasant surprise. How all the various talents, skills, interests and accomplishments can be squeezed into one person is quite a story in itself.
After finishing Business and Marketing in a northern skiing city in her country Czech Republic, she started modeling, a job which brought her to Manila and landed her endorsements for beer, appliance and candy. She has made the Philippines her home after she set up her business here. She talks about Milena’s Cakes, the guiltless desserts she has created with a local baker which is available at the Mercato Centrale market at Bonifacio Global City and via Quick Delivery (T: 212-1212). The desserts have high-fiber whole wheat flour, coco sugar, an alternative, healthier sweetener, and they are child-friendly, gluten-free, lactose-free and vegan. Sounds boring? We don’t think so. When 24/7 got a taste of her peanut butter cupcakes, we thought it was so divine that it broke the myth about healthy desserts. Her David’s cinnamon cake, Dana’s banana choco cake and Steve’s carrot cake are favorites When asked if modeling and food were her passion, she goes on to talk about the other activities she is involved in. She is studying to be a stockbroker and helicopter pilot. She shares, “I chose the most difficult aircraft, not the fixed wing, because I like challenges.” As if that was not enough, Milena shows us her couture swimsuit line, MAD, created with her partner, featuring sexy and animal prints that would be perfect for a St. Tropez weekend. She boasts that she loves the Philippines, and she has proven that with her involvement with the Philippine Jaycees in their Smokey Mountain project, a beneficiary for the Vegan nights she has set-up at Establishment bar. We are certain that fearless as she is, there is more Milena will get involved in and be successful at. Nothing can stop her now.

When Cuisine, a favorite hangout, closed a few months ago, the nocturnal scene at The Fort changed drastically and became eerily quiet. Well, what do you know? Its incarnation opened with a bang at the Resorts World complex right beside its sister establishments, Republiq and Café Republiq, albeit in a grander and more opulent atmosphere. A baby grand piano takes center stage early in the evenings while patrons dine on exquisite modern European cuisine prepared by chef and partner Fernando Aracama. With the elevated, gleaming, pod-like “Alien” inspired bar at the rear lying witness to nightlife decadence under a 10-meter high ceiling, nothing will escape the sharp eyes of its habitués on the main floor.
Capturing the experience of the city that never sleeps in more ways than one is Borough— from the Brooklyn-esque industrial loft design, to the selections of the best comfort food from the five boroughs of New York City created by its resident Chef Cuit Kaufman, to the 24/7 hours it serves its patrons.
