For those that prefer a more quiet, laid-back meal, here are the city’s favorite late night haunts, from cheap to chic. With the unique demand of Filipinos for food anytime and anywhere, even bars and watering holes serve some bar chow to survive in the tough nightlife rat race. Though seemingly incongruous, it is no surprise to find a posh dance club’s customers gobbling oily, sizzling and garlicky appetizers like sisig (chopped pig’s ears and cheeks) with fried rice while the music blares. in this part of the world where you would find many dining options open until the wee hours of the morning other than convenience stores and fast food joints. This metropolis definitely has so much variety to offer famished souls after midnight, a quality that is not present in its wealthier neighbors like Singapore and Hong Kong. With the advent of call centers in the last decade with thousands of agents on the graveyard shift and the growing demand for food all times of the day, we expect even more of these restaurants to spring up.

80s icons and Black Eyed Peas Stomp their Way into Manila
The most exciting and interesting events are coming to the Philippines this month. Here are the must-sees! Oct. 10: Manila is set to relive the 80s music and fashion revolution with Human League, Howard Jones and Belinda Carlisle Live in Manila at 8PM at the Smart Araneta Coliseum. Expect to hear the biggest hits from the music icons of that decade including Human League’s Human and Don’t You Want Me, Jones’ What Is Love and I’d Like to Get to Know You Well and Carlisle’s Heaven is a Place on Earth at the Smart-Araneta Coliseum. Human League and Howard Jones were one of the leaders of the British New Wave invasion of electronic artists in the 80s. Ms. Carlisle was a member of the famed all girl band from California, The Go-Go’s, responsible for number 1 hits We Got the Beat and Our Lips are Sealed. The eighties signified a boom in music with the advent of MTV and music videos. Musical artists who became video personalities and pushed the envelope with their fashion style marked this era. Oct. 18 to 23: From Lunchbox Productions, who brought Cats to Manila, comes the hit show Stomp for a week’s performance at 8PM at the Tanghalang Nicanor Abelardo, Cultural Center of the Philippines (Main Theater), CCP Complex, Pasay. Stomp is a combination of percussion, using a variety of everyday percussion instruments, as well as movement and visual comedy, created in Brighton, U.K. in 1991. Filipinos who watched the show some years ago think that the beats created are similar to the local tribal beats we are all familiar with. Between 1991 and 1994, the original cast of Stomp played to capacity audiences around the world. The touring culminated in a sell-out season at Sadler’s Wells Theatre in London in January 1994, where Stomp received an Olivier nomination for the “Best Entertainment Award” and won “Best Choreography Award
in a West End Show”. Stomp also won an Obie Award and a Drama Desk Award for Most Unique Theatre Experience. See what all the noise is about!

Even with its location along the infamous P. Burgos Street, home to the city’s biggest red light district, Filling Station would gather customers from all walks of life. The unusual mix of people and the 50s and 60s Hollywood memorabilia as décor makes this diner an interesting and unique place to get your American-sized burger and large sized milkshakes (the only authentic way to serve it), or a surprise inclusion in the menu, Filipino favorite dishes like Tapsilog (dried or cured beef, rice with garlic, with eggs, all fried) or Arroz a la Cubana anytime of the night.
