GISELLE TONGI, MORE POPULARLY KNOWN AS G, is one of very few people who are famous enough to be known by just their first names, or by their first initial. Discovered in a shopping mall at the age of the 16, she burst into the scene through a youth-oriented show. She then became a sought-after endorser and later on a VJ for MTV. Although this rise to success follows the path of many before her, what sets her apart from the rest of her peers is that she does not just rely on her pretty face to make her mark. As proof of this, G left the country in 2000 to study at the Lee Strasberg Theater and Film Institute in the United States. While honing her acting chops, G also studied to be a bartender for several months and worked behind the bar to support herself. Her outgoing and bubbly personality, made bartending an easy choice.

G’s hard work paid off and garnered her a membership in the Screen Actors Guild in Hollywood. She constantly works on her craft by appearing various theater productions. According to her, the preparations in acting projects abroad can be more intense in the US because everything, from lines to blocking, needs to be rehearsed. Now a mother to two young children, Sakura and Kenobi, G balances her time between family and school. She is currently pursuing a degree in Communications with a minor in Film at the University of California in Los Angeles. Although family comes first, G states that she is still in school so she has time for herself. It is interesting to teach her kids animal sounds one minute and then take on higher academics the next. “That,” she says “is the duality of my day.”
