Muchos piensan que Fráncfort del Meno, conocida también con los apodos Bankfurt y Mainhattan, es un destino para hacer una escapada de fin de semana, sin más. Pues se equivocan; esta ciudad alemana ofrece muchísimas cosas. Es fácil moverse por el centro a pie, hay museos de primera talla casi pegados entre sí, puedes pasar en barco de una orilla a otra del río Meno y la vida nocturna es de lo mejorcito. La mitad de los habitantes adultos de Fráncfort no tienen pareja y el lema oficial de la ciudad bien podría ser: trabaja mucho y disfruta a tope.

Entre los objetivos que se plantean sus creadores está el de revitalizar el centro histórico y participar en la evolución de Valladolid hacia un modelo de ciudad inteligente.

Soy muy malo dando excusas. Cuando no se me ocurre nada, siempre digo: "No puedo, me voy de viaje".

El problema es cuando me invitan a ir de viaje. No sé qué decir y acabo yendo con esa persona a la que quería evitar. Me pasó un mes de septiembre. Una presunta amiga me invitó a ir a Milán. Entré en pánico: "¡Eh!, no puedo, tengo una votación en el Congreso. ¡Ah!, no, espera, es el cumpleaños de mi nieto.

Septiembre es un mes de ferias en Milán. Me pareció una buena opción: grandes espacios, mucha gente, el lugar ideal para perder a tu acompañante.

Primero fuimos al MIPAP (Milano Pret-a-Porter), feria dedicada a la moda primavera-verano que viene (este año del día 21 al 23). Luego nos pasamos por el MACEF, feria de la casa y el diseño interior (del día 12 al 15). Seguimos con el MIPEL, prestigiosa feria de la piel y el cuero. Y terminamos en el MICAM, feria internacional del calzado (ambas del día 15 al 18). Pero nada, no hubo manera de perderla.

Paseando, llegamos hasta la zona de Brera, conocida como la ‘bohemia de lujo’ por su mezcla de edificios y tabernas tradicionales, con hoteles y restaurantes exclusivos. Sugerí ir a cenar. "Al menos, mientras come, no hablará", pensé. Qué equivocado estaba. A su inaguantable conversación se añadió el detestable hábito de hacerlo con la boca llena. Creía que la cosa no podía ir a peor, pero sí. Empezó a insinuarse. Que si estoy muy sola, que si siempre me has gustado, que si quieres venir a mi habitación…

Entré en pánico: "Eeeh, mira, sabes qué pasa, es que soy gay". La mayoría de la gente piensa que los de la tele somos gais, así que no era una excusa descabellada. Lejos de disuadirla, se alegró muchísimo: "¡Lo sabía!", gritó. Luego cogió su teléfono, llamó a mi madre y le dijo: "Me debes 100 euros".

Lo peor de todo es que ahora no paro de recibir invitaciones de amigos gais y, claro, como soy tan malo dando excusas… Bueno, les dejo, que tengo hora para depilarme.

Por ejemplo, en el que se sirvió, pagado por el torero Ignacio Sánchez Mejías, en la Real Venta de Antequera, en Sevilla, a lo más granado del momento literario, allá por 1927: Rafael Alberti, Federico García Lorca, Dámaso Alonso y José Bergamín, entre otros. Según los diarios de la época, en el banquete se sirvieron los platos más típicos de la cocina sevillana: pescadito frito, rabo de toro y, ¡cómo no!..., huevos a la flamenca.

Dos años más tarde, un escritor gastrónomo, Dionisio Pérez, a quien se conocía como Post Thebussem, dejó escrito:

El pelícano de Mykonos existe. No es una leyenda urbana. Yo lo he visto. Es curioso, pero siempre pensé que era un invento de los responsables de turismo de la isla. Aunque... un poco de invención sí que hay en esta historia. Unos dicen que el Petros original fue estrangulado; otros, que se lo robó la vecina isla de Tinos; algunos, que fue atropellado... Es lo que tiene convertirse en mito, y en estas tierras saben mucho de eso.

Visitar la Alhambra siempre es una experiencia fascinante. También agotadora.

Por eso, una vez terminada la visita y para seguir con el rollo nazarí que se respira en esa edificación, nos fuimos a unos baños árabes. Se llaman Hammam Baños Árabes de Granada; están al pie de la Alhambra y son los primeros que se abrieron en España cinco siglos después de su desaparición tras la expulsión de los últimos andalusíes. !Merece la pena rescatar las costumbres de nuestros antepasados!

The Mykonos pelican really exists. It’s not just an urban legend: I’ve seen it. It is curious because I always thought it had been invented to promote tourism on the island.

Mind you, it seems like there has been a bit of myth making along the way. Some say that the original Petros the Pelican was strangled, others say that he was stolen by the neighbouring island of Tinos, others that he was run over by a car… that’s what happens when myths get started, and they know plenty about that around here.

Visiting the Alhambra is always a fascinating experience. It can also be exhausting, because this time, after we had finished our visit, we wanted to keep the Moorish feeling going so we went to some Arab baths. They are called the Hammam Baños Árabes de Granada, and they are located below the Alhambra. They are the first to open in Spain since the Muslim Andalusians were expelled, five centuries ago. What a good idea, to bring back some of our ancestors’ customs!

Después de cenar en un rico y bonito restaurante de París, como casi todos, mi novio y yo nos fuimos a dar un paseo a uno de los patios que hay en torno al Louvre, donde estaba nuestro hotel. Ya sabes, un rollo romántico de esos que tanto invita esta ciudad. De pronto, se empezó a escuchar un ruido extraño que crecía y que terminó siendo ensordecedor, cuando, de repente, comenzaron a pasar delante de nosotros cientos y cientos de patinadores.

Aunque inesperado, fue alucinante. Luego nos enteramos de que se organizan rutas nocturnas para patinadores.

He conocido Kiev gratis. Me explico. Me hablaron de un servicio de guías turísticos gratuitos por la ciudad y no dudé en probarlo. Me pareció una forma muy interesante de conocerla mientras paseas por ella. Además, hay dos rutas diferentes: cada una a una hora (12:00 y 16:00) que salen de la Plaza de la Independencia (Maidan Nazalezhnosti). Al final, no puedes dejar de dar una buena propina a los guías, que hacen esto desinteresadamente, solo por amor a su ciudad.

Soy de Madrid, aunque vivo en Ibiza.

Después de todo el año viendo mar, cuando vuelvo a casa a ver a mi familia me gusta ir a la sierra a hacer senderismo. Ahora que por fin se ha declarado Parque Nacional a la sierra de Guadarrama, me he acordado de las caminatas que nos pegaba mi padre por allí cuando éramos pequeños y veíamos a los escaladores en El Yelmo y cabras montesas, zorros, tejones y cientos de pájaros. Un lugar muy recomendable si quieres conocer la cara más natural y menos urbanita de la capital.

After having an excellent dinner in one of those beautiful Parisian restaurants, my partner and I went for a walk in one of the courtyards around the Louvre, near our hotel. It was one of those romantic moments that happen so easily in this city. Suddenly, we heard a strange sound that gradually got louder until it became deafening. Then, hundreds and hundreds of rollerbladers passed right in front of us. It was totally unexpected.

Later we found out that they organise night routes for skaters and rollerbladers.

I saw Kiev for free. Let me explain. I found out about a free tourist service offering guided tours of the city, so I thought I would try it. It was a really good way to see the city by foot. There are two different routes, each one lasting an hour (leaving at 12.00 and 16.00), leaving from Independence Square (Maidan Nazalezhnosti). At the end I really felt like giving the guide a tip, since they do the tours selflessly, just out of a love for the city.

I am from Madrid, although I live in Ibiza.

After spending the whole year looking at the sea, when I go back home to see my family I like to go to the mountains for some trekking. They have finally made a national park in the Sierra de Guadarrama, and I have great memories of the long hikes that my father took us on there when we were young: we used to see climbers on El Yelmo, mountain goats, foxes, badgers and lots of different kinds of birds. I really recommend this place if you want to see the wild side of the capital.

Llegué a Olbia sin saber que esta palabra significa ‘ciudad feliz’. El viaje empezaba bien. Resulta irónico que, llamándose así, la historia de esta ciudad haya sido bastante triste, ya que fue destruida y reconstruida varias veces. Quizás no tenga nada que ver, pero si su historia no acompaña a su nombre, sí lo hacen el carácter y forma de ser de sus habitantes: gente encantadora y, al parecer, muy feliz.

Quizás el mejor recuerdo de mis vacaciones en Vigo sea la lonja de pescadores.

Siempre había querido presenciar esas sesiones parecidas a las de la Bolsa de Nueva York que tienen lugar en la mayoría de los puertos españoles y la casualidad quiso que lo viviera precisamente en el puerto pesquero en el que se subasta más pescado de Europa... o al menos eso me dijeron. Se trata de un enorme edificio en el que auténticos brokers de mar pujan frenéticamente, pero a la baja, en mitad de la noche.

Nunca pensé que tenía que haber metido el bañador en la maleta en un viaje a Estocolmo. Uno espera ver de todo menos playas en la capital sueca, pero unos amigos que viven allí me llevaron a un par de ellas.

Vale, nada que ver con las playas española, pero resulta divertido bañarte en la misma ciudad, ya que a playas como Langholmsbadet, Ralamnshovsbadet o Reimersholme se puede llegar andando o en metro.

Eso sí, son de roca.

I came to Olbia not knowing that the word means ‘city of joy’. It is strange that the city has this name, considering that its history has been quite a troubled one since it was destroyed and rebuilt many times. I don’t know if it is connected in any way but, if the history doesn’t seem to fit with the name, the inhabitants’ character and way of life do; they are really friendly people and they seem to be very happy.

One of the best memories of my trip to Vigo was the fish market. I had always wanted to see one of the fish auctions which, they say, are a bit like being at the New York Stock Exchange. Most Spanish ports have one, but it was a happy coincidence that my first visit was to the one where they sell more fish than anywhere else in Europe… or at least that is what I was told. The market building is enormous and during the auction, which takes place in the middle of the night, there are all these kind of fish ‘brokers’ who frantically make their bids.

I never thought that a bathing costume might be useful on a trip to Stockholm.

I was expecting to see everything but beaches in the Swedish capital, but a couple of friends I know there took me to a couple. Well, it’s not quite like being on a Spanish beach, but it is really fun to be at the beach in the middle of a city, since you can get to places like Langholmsbadet, Ralamnshovsbadet and Reimersholme on the underground or even on foot. I’d better warn you, though, they are quite pebbly.
