ello and welcome to the June edition of The Inside Shoreham and Southwick Magazine We have had some wonderful sunshine in May for the Royal wedding and for our own local activities. Long may it continue this month! This month’s issue has the latest from our wonderful contributors. I hope that you will find our articles interesting and informative as well as helpful. Whether you are interested in gardening or financial advice we have the latest for you. Additionally, to list just a few, we have advice from Sophie Joseph on how to have healthy summer skin and First Foot Clinic gives good advice on how to deal with sweaty feet at this time of the year. There are also lots of summer fetes coming up as well as local activities. All of these will be listed in the What’s on Guide at the back of the magazine. On that note, I wish you a fabulous month and we will see you in July. We are here to help you connect up with local businesses and of course your continued support is very important to us. Please do write or email us about any local events or activities or charity events you may be running or would like to promote locally. We would be happy to put it in the magazine. Building links between business and the arts

wo well-known major property businesses have announced their sponsorship of Shoreham’s Ropetackle Arts Centre, marking another important milestone in the Centre’s development. Following the recent opening of their Shoreham office, Oakley Property – one of the region’s leading residential and commercial estate agencies – made the announcement at a reception to celebrate the 25th anniversary. The event was hosted by Ropetackle and, as well as great food and a good selection of drinks, the 200 guests were treated to live music from the South Coast Soul Revue. Oakley has partnered Hyde Housing as joint sponsors, with Hyde currently undertaking the major Shoreham Waterfront development, which started on site earlier this year. Hyde are one of the foremost social housing providers in London and

Tom Shaw, operations director of Hyde Housing added: “It’s very important for Hyde to take an active role in the local communities where we are developing new social housing and having seen the great work done at Ropetackle and how it forms a hub role for the community, we are delighted to sponsor Ropetackle and help promote this great organisation”. The Largest Service Organisation in the World!

L

ions Clubs International is an organisation with clubs in over 200 countries throughout the world and with over 1.35 million members. With such a large organisation you would expect there to be a large administrative organisation costing six figure sums coming out of fundraising efforts. But you would be wrong! All administrative costs are paid for by members’ dues meaning that every penny that is donated is used in charitable donations or service activities. And members’ dues are not burdensome. Members of Adur East Lions Club pay just £45 for a year’s membership. Being a Lions Club member means you have the support of the larger District, Multiple District (country) and International organisation in terms of resources, ideas and insurance cover when staging a fundraising event. Those of you in business will know how important all this is as you will have a Corporate Social Responsibility Policy in place and will want to do your bit to help your local community and you need to know that your money and effort is going to the right places. By aligning your business with your local Lions club, you can fulfil the aims of your policy easily and in a highly visible way. Adur East Lions Club members are keen to do more service activities and would welcome the involvement of younger working people in carrying out the more physical activities. One example is the clearing of a ‘forest’ area for a local nursery school, making it safe for the children but also allowing them to explore nature in a hands-on way. (The photo shows members taking a well-earned break from clearing the undergrowth!) The club aims to be inclusive and welcomes new members and new ideas for fundraising and service projects. Any local businesses wanting to find out more are urged to get in touch via the means listed below or by ringing the Publicity and Membership Officer, Susan Saunders on 01273 463833. You may also like to follow this link for more information about the Lions organisation https://youtu.be/gkVNXztmMmg To contact the Lions you can ring 0845 8337356. Breakfast Ideas for Sustainable Energy!

W

e are often told that breakfast is “the most important meal of the day”. Well is it? Maybe not for everyone. We all have highly individual systems, so what works well for me, might not work for you. You may find that you don’t have the urge to eat anything until at least 11am. It is beneficial to fast at least 12 hours overnight (8am-8pm) to give your pancreas and liver a break. I recommend drinking a large glass of warm water with a fresh lemon squeeze/slice, when you wake up to stimulate both stomach acid and bile flow. This will prepare the body for food and support the digestive process.

Blood sugar balance

Whatever time you decide to eat – the ‘right’ breakfast can help stabilise your blood sugar levels later in the morning. This means that you won’t feel irritable and tired within an hour or two of eating. A good breakfast should also see you all the way through to your next meal without the need for snacking. So for breakfast I’d recommend keeping your carbohydrate intake moderate and fill up more on protein and healthy fats. If our blood sugar rises too steeply, insulin is secreted and can cause a rapid drop in blood sugar, which can set your day up on a roller coaster of blood sugar highs and lows. So instead of having a carbohydrate-heavy breakfast that includes breakfast cereals, fruit juices, toast, pastries and jams, check out some of my favourite breakfast alternatives. • Overnight oats – in a jar or bowl combine 40g of oats with a tsp of ground linseed and 1 tbsp of pumpkin seeds for added minerals, almond milk, and a few frozen berries. Soak overnight. In the morning top up with yogurt. Oats are slow releasing complex carbohydrates which helps you sustain energy levels through until lunch. I love linseed – a spoonful helps lower bad cholesterol as it’s very high in soluble and non-soluble fibre, it will also encourage ‘movement’ in a sluggish bowel! • Blueberry pancake – ingredients: half banana, 2 eggs, 2 tbsp coconut flour, 1 tbsp coconut oil, 1 tbsp almond milk, pinch cinnamon, pinch salt, combine in blender, pour into small pancake pan heated with coconut oil and pop in 5 blueberries. Cover with a lid to speed process and flip half way through. Makes 4 small pancakes. • Eggs scrambled with spinach – or fried egg fried in a little butter with tomato, fresh spinach, served with sourdough bread, avocado and smoked salmon or bacon. • Porridge – Oats with linseed, and pumpkin/sunflower seeds (soaked overnight in water to increase digestibility). Drain then cook on hob with almond/oat milk, and 1/4 a banana. • Chia pudding – Chia seeds soaked in coconut milk overnight. Add fruit and CoYo coconut yogurt in the morning. High in protein, contains minerals phosphorus, calcium and zinc and omega 3 essential fatty acids. (Perfect vegan breakfast!) • Okay to add – cinnamon (1 tsp is recommended for blood sugar balancing), ½ tsp raw honey. Freshly milled linseed is a good natural laxative and source of omega 3 essential fatty acids. To advertise call: 01273 452065 • www.insideshoreham.com

The Tempest

27 – 30 June Wick Theatre Company

T

his is Wick’s next production and I am hoping you may be able to find space for it in your June issue. Here are the details: The Tempest, by William Shakespeare, is Wick Theatre Company’s summer choice, continuing its celebratory 70th season. It will take place from Wednesday 27 to Saturday 30 June, at the Barn Theatre. Southwick Street, Southwick, BN42 4TE. Curtain up is at 7.45pm, tickets cost £11.00 from the Box Office on 01273 597094, or online: www.wicktheatre.co.uk A man waits. Robbed of his position, power and wealth, his enemies have left him in isolation. But this is no ordinary man, and this is no ordinary island. Shakespeare’s last play has long dazzled readers and audiences alike, with its intricate blend of magic, music, humour, intrigue and tenderness. Atmospheric use of lighting and sound, along with some of Wick’s most talented actors, will conjure up a tempestuous evening of sorcery, revenge and romance. Directed by Dan Dryer.

“We love Lisa, her (music) lessons are brilliant…” It is well documented that participating in music classes and learning to play an instrument is beneficial for individuals of all ages, and research suggests that these benefits are greatest when a child begins at a young age. I am passionate about delivering this opportunity to children from age 3 upwards, and my classes are carefully planned to maximise engagement, movement, instrumental learning and most importantly FUN! “…fun and full of ingenious ways to learn how to read and play music.” – Parent to 5 year old .

can lead to improvements in cognitive ability, speeding up the development of speech and reading skills. The ability to focus attention, to listen, and develop empathy are also improved by playing and making music, particularly in a group setting. “Parents can be more confident than ever that an investment in music lessons will deliver lifelong benefits for their child.” – The Royal Conservatory of Music. Happy Tunes Music Classes are available in participating schools, nurseries, and community venues in Shoreham. They are also available for home educators. All classes involve fun games, activities, and tunes to spark a lifelong love of music making. A wonderful way for your child to start their musical journey – something every child deserves! Little Goose – Age 3-4 Children use Ocarinas to make their first instrumental sounds using their breath and finger movements. Simple music symbols and marks help them take their first steps into literacy and phonics by linking what they see with sounds they make.

Happy Tunes Music Lessons are unique. I am the first certified Kinderflute teacher in the UK, practising a ground breaking method of teaching designed for young children by awardwinning flautist Kathy Blocki. Group classes are underpinned by the importance of movement to fire up young brains to foster all round learning. Acknowledging how exercise directly influences learning and improves the brains potential to process new information. All instruments are provided and are again designed for children, allowing little fingers and lungs to make a big sound. Nuvo instruments, created by Max Clissold, ensure that playing a musical instrument is accessible to young children of all ages. As an ambassador for Nuvo Instrumental I am part of a team of international music educators dedicated to making this happen. Music allows children to express emotion and creativity. Research in neuroscience increasingly proves that music tuition

TooTs and DooDs – Age 4-6 Children begin to learn how to read music and to play the innovative smaller Nuvo instruments, TooTs and DooDs. In these classes they develop skills and technique that will transition easily onto Flute, Clarinet and Saxophone.

Exploding into Bloom

S

o here we are in flaming June, with the prospect of the longest day at the end of the month. The weather in May continued to confound us, going down to 4 degrees with torrential rain one day and up to 25 degrees at the end of the week. Hopefully by now it’s settled down and we are at the start of a nice long hot summer. Well, we can at least hope!

The changeable weather we have had this year just goes to show how challenging it can be to garden in this part of the country, but also how the variance in weather can bring such great rewards as well. Yes we have had a wet start to the year, but it definitely seems that most plants are now thriving and have put on a lot of growth, because of the weather, so maybe we shouldn’t always moan about it. At least not from a gardening point of view anyway! As we are beginning to see the start of most plants going into overdrive and putting on growth spurts, it’s a good time to get control of them. This is especially true with climbers. All to often they are allowed to go mad and you end up with a large jungle stuck on the side of the wall, or quite often on the floor as they don’t get a chance to climb properly due to inadequate support. Most climbers need help. They need a decent support structure, either a trellis or a set of stout wires fixed to the wall. Also, they need to be able to get there. I often see a piece of trellis fixed three feet above a climber, that will never get there, and people wonder why they struggle! Give them support the whole way up, and as they start to grow, gently train them along the wires and trellis. Most climbers will grow in a certain direction as they follow the sun during the day, so follow this pattern as you thread them through the support. We should also be safe from frosts now, so it’s a good time to start getting the riot of colour from the bedding plants going. Just remember to spread them when you plant them to give them room to grow, and give them plenty to drink and feed to get the best from them. Be vigilant with the removal of dead flowers to keep them producing more flowers and that way you should have a good show all through the summer. This really is one of the better months of the year to get outside and see everything exploding into bloom, and to enjoy the long evenings just sitting in the garden looking at the results of your hard work. Let’s just keep our fingers crossed on the weather though! Mark Oakley Any Garden Limited

orthing is in for a very special treat this Summer as Legendary Film Producer Robert Watts comes to the town on Sunday 08th July 2018 where he is appearing at the Assembly Hall. Robert has been involved in some of the greatest films ever to grace the big screen but his career reached another level after his production work on the initial Star Wars and Indiana Jones trilogies which has brought him acclaim worldwide along with millions of fans. Joining Robert on stage are other big names from these trilogies. Boba Fett actor, Jeremy Bulloch, Ewok Logray actor, Mike Edmonds and Oscar/BAFTA winner for Special Effects, George Gibbs. This is a golden opportunity for fans to ask any questions they have to the guests during the Question and Answer session that follows the Interviews. The final part of the event will be an autograph session for fans to obtain much sort after signatures should they wish. Please note that autograph prices are in addition to the entrance fee and at the discretion of each guest and their management. Robert’s career in film started in 1960 when he worked as a runner on A French Mistress. After working as Second Assistant Director on A Man in the Middle, Robert worked as Location and Production Manager throughout the 1960’s including Darling, You Only Live Twice (James Bond) and 2001: A Space Odyssey. Little did Robert know at the time but it was a recommendation from a certain Stanley Kubrick that led to pinnacle of Robert’s career. Robert was already acquainted with Gary Kurtz when Gary appointed Robert Production Supervisor on the original Star Wars film. The media frenzy that occurred when Star Wars

12

was released was just incredible. This was the beginning of a long working relationship with George Lucas and Lucasfilm including The Empire Strikes Back, Return of the Jedi and the first three Indiana Jones movies. The association with Steven Spielberg continued with Who Framed Roger Rabbit and An American Tail: Fievel Goes West. In 1993, Robert produced Alive and he was the Executive producer for the 1994 Steven Seagal epic On Deadly Ground which completes an outstanding Filmography of Production. Robert has a renewed energy and is hungry to make another movie. His attention was grabbed in 2011 by a film script written by Steve Heath. Robert and Steve have worked tirelessly to improve the script to the standard required to bring the story to the big screen. Robert believes it’s now ready and talks are underway to make it happen. Darxide Media Ltd was created to produce the Worthing show for Robert and his guests and if dreams come true, the latest adventure may just be appearing on your screens in the not too distant future. The Foster Care Agency (TFCA) is an independent fostering provider based in Shoreham-By-Sea. We aim to have a strong local presence and involvement in the community to support local foster families in caring for vulnerable children and young people. Unfortunately, there is a shortage of fostering households and this means that is not always possible to place children in their local communities. Healthy Summer Skin

W

ith the weather at its best with lots of beautiful sunshine (hopefully!), the warmth and plenty of time outside in the fresh air this time of year can be fantastic for our Skin. With the sun’s skin healing ability, increase in vitamin D, being outside and perhaps being more active can all have a positive effect on our skin, general health and well-being. Yet with the best of intentions we can often suffer the detrimental effects of too much sun exposure. Here’s a few suggestions to take care of your skin during the summer months to help maintain softness, protect from premature aging and keep your skin looking fresh in 5 stages. 1. I recommend the use of a good quality natural and Paraben free sunscreen. Sunscreens can often contain a cocktail of artificial ingredients such as synthetic preservatives, perfumes and emulsifiers so look for natural. Usually they will contain Zinc oxide, naturally protecting oils such as Coconut, Avocado and Shea Butter as a natural SPF. The longer the list of ingredients on the label, with hard to read names, then it’s good to be suspicious of unnecessary chemical ingredients! 2. You may find skin a little more spotty or clogged from wearing a cream, and from sweat and heat making the skin more oily, so a good cleansing routine at the end of the day is essential. Use a cleansing balm that is removed with a hot cloth or flannel, the balm will melt in and mix with the suncream product, sweat dirt and oils, helping it to deep clean without drying out the sun exposed skin. Try my Clarifying Cleansing balm with zesty, purifying Lemon, Lavender and Frankincense. 3. Keep internally hydrated. The skin will often reflect how hydrated we are and sometimes water alone is not enough. Try topping up your levels of fresh vegetables and fruits which contain minerals and vitamins, and will help to hydrate the colon. Also smoothies can be a great way to stay hydrated with nutrients, add skin-supporting ingredients like Avocado, Ground Flaxseeds, Blueberries and Spirulina.

I also like to make a linseed/flax tea. To make this tea bring a tablespoon of golden/brown linseeds to the boil in a litre of water, take off heat and seal with the lid. Leave for 12hrs, then bring the mixture to simmer for an hour or so until the mixture is gloopy, strain then add a spoonful or more of the mixture to teas or porridge. This helps the colon to hold onto water and stay hydrated which will reflect in fresher more hydrated skin. 4. Use a good quality facial oil containing natural and organic ingredients. This can help to protect the skin from free radicals that cause aging and repair existing damage from environmental toxins and sun exposure. Use a rich plant oil such as Argan or Rosehip, or try Essential Blends Rejuvenating serum with Uplifting Geranium, Lemon and Frankincense for dull, congested skin to reveal brighter more vibrancy, or my Deeply Nourishing face oil with a combination of the most nourishing and restorative plant oils such as Argan, Rosehip and Borage – great for dry, sundamaged skin or to soften fine lines. 5. If you do get burnt by the sun, as sometimes with the best will in the world we get caught out, do have some Aloe Vera gel to hand, either from a tube or get a plant, and you can break off a leaf and squeeze out the goodness! It has a natural plant steroid effect to help repair and strengthen the skin, rapidly cooling and soothing. It’s also great for insect bites too so don’t be without it! What Will your pensions savings mean at retirement and are you saving enough? It is most definitely worth working out what your potential pension pot could actually buy for you in terms of income and a tax free cash lump sum for your retirement and we believe that annuity rates can provide a very decent ‘bottom line’ indicator. there is no doubt that the importance of pension contributions has been boosted by the rollout of auto-enrolment pension schemes or Workplace Pensions as you might know them. However, what is not clear is what your savings will actually buy for you when you come to retire. take for example Louise, who is a healthy, non-smoking 65-year-old and - lucky her - she reaches retirement with £1,000,000 in her pension plan (she must have had a good iFa along the way!). if Louise uses her entire pension fund to buy herself an inflation-proofed income, what will be her first monthly pension payment before tax is deducted? a. £2,500? B. £3,000? C. £3,500? d. £4,000? The answer is A, based on current pension annuity rates. after tax, if Louise has no other income, her monthly payment will be about £2,200. if she were to incorporate a 2/3rds widow’s pension the gross amount drops by about £400 a month.

given the sheer size of Louise’s pension fund, this level of pension income may be a surprise to you, especially given that the national Living Wage is nearly £1,200 a month for a 35-hour week. Moreover, in additional context, you have to take into account that she has chosen to relinquish a tax-free lump sum of up to £250,000 in favour of a higher pension income! Whilst the pension of £2,500 a month is only 3% of Louise’s pension pot, it is rPi-linked and, importantly, because it is an annuity payment it is also guaranteed throughout her life – however long that may be. You can however see that whilst annuities have gone out of fashion with the advent of ‘Pension Freedoms’ and ‘Flexi-access Drawdown’, the rates can set a base line for retirement planning. alternative retirement incomes, such as Drawdown, do carry some form of investment risk and the potentially higher incomes which are available do not have the same degree of security as the annuity route…even though they do offer many other possible personal advantages. the increases in Workplace Pension contributions from april are a necessary beginning on the way to building up adequate retirement funds but a realistic level of pension contributions will need be much higher for most people who want a financially comfortable retirement.

Why not ask us what yours should be? the value of your investment can go down as well as up and you may not get back the full amount you invested. HMS Scorpion and Charles Austen

T

he ship HMS Scorpion was an un-rated Echo class Sloop, of 340 tons with a 102-foot gun deck. She had 125 crew manning her 16 six-pounder guns and 6-twelve pounder cannonades. Her assembly began in November 1782, at the Benjamin Ashman Shipyard in Shoreham. She was completed on the 26th of March 1785 and moved to Portsmouth for outfitting where she was finished on the 20th of April 1787. HMS Scorpion was a much sought after vessel to command. To be the master of a ship with fewer than twenty guns was an important step for any a navy officer seeking promotion to the rank of captain. Her first commander was William Albany Otway who stayed with her until the 1st of December 1787 when Lieutenant Charles Hamilton then assumed command. Scorpion’s next master was Commander Paget Bayly and the ship saw its first deployment in January 1788 to the Leeward Islands. In August 1790, HMS Scorpion arrived at Sheerness dockyard for repairs and in September Lieutenant Benjamin Hallowell took captaincy. He was promoted to Commander on the 22nd November 1790 and HMS Scorpion was deployed to the African coast on the 22nd September 1791. In October 1792, upon her return to England Commander Solomon Ferris was appointed Captain before HMS Scorpion returned to the African coast. HMS Scorpion’s most successful year came in 1795 when on a two-year deployment upon the North American and West Indies trade route she captured many a French privateer. Her captain at the time was Commander Thomas Western who had already overseen the capture of the La Guillotine on the 2nd of August 1794. In 1795, HMS Scorpion took the 18-gun La Victoire, and then on the 19th of April, she captured the L’Egalite. On the 8th of May, she took possession of Sanspareil, on 22nd of July, Le Republicain, on the 3rd of August and L’Hirondelle on the 7th of August. Having been promoted to Lieutenant on the 13th of December 1797, Charles Austen was at this point assigned to HMS Scorpion. The fifth and youngest son of the Reverend George Austen, he was also the brother of the soon to be famous novelist Jane Austen, and had an elder brother Francis, who was also in the navy and eventually became Admiral of the Fleet. Jane Austen herself wouldn’t visit our area until 1805 however, when along with other members of her family, she passed through Shoreham while travelling Worthing for a holiday. Shoreham has a further connection to the Austen family in that their relative Jane Monk lived at Buckingham House, with Buckingham Park as its grounds. The Monk family vault is in St. Nicholas’ church, Old Shoreham. Jane Austen, at the time of her stay in Worthing, was aged 29, and not yet a published novelist. She is known to have spent at least a month and a half in Worthing with her mother, her sister Cassandra, and her close friend Martha Lloyd. They stayed at Stanford’s Cottage, set back from the South side of Warwick Street. The building is still in existence today and is currently occupied by a Pizza Express restaurant. In Jane Austen’s time, its south-facing bow windows gave the visitors an uninterrupted view of the sea. While Jane Austen’s visit to Worthing was for relaxation and leisure, her brother Charles thought his time on board HMS

Scorpion was dull, given the ship’s previous reputation for action. He was however present at the capture of the 6-gun Dutch vessel Courier while serving under the command of John Tremayne Rodd who captained HMS Scorpion from March 1798 to the 7th of September 1798. Shortly after this event, Charles Austen was transferred to HMS Tamar. Promoted to commander, Austen took on his own ship - HMS Indian in 1804. He then became captain of the 74-gun HMS Swiftsure and after a long naval career eventually rose to the rank of rear admiral. HMS Scorpion meanwhile was sold at Plymouth in 1802 to J. Mather and became a merchant vessel captained by William Dagg, then by Captain Bunker. She was captured in 1809, but either released or ransomed and returned to service under the same captain in 1810 working the South Seas.

Bounce back quickly from Shin Splints

T

his month, following on from the theme of running and Marathons, we take a look at the common injury Shin Splints.

What are Shin Splints?

Medial tibial stress syndrome, better known as shin splints, is a painful condition to the inside of your shins, made worse by high impact activities such as walking with heavy back packs, running or dancing. There are 2 distinct types, which affect specific tissues of the shin:

Type One – Due to a stress reaction to the inside border of the shin bone. Type Two – Due to an irritation of the outer surface of the bone, called the periostium, where the calf muscles attach and pull.

What causes it?

There are various reasons why this condition can occur, mostly being linked to overuse. Sportspeople regularly doing high impact on hard surfaces are affected most. Lack of cushion in shoes or trainers can contribute. Also, poor body mechanics can affect how you strike the ground during sport, and therefore the lower back, hips and knees can all contribute if the surrounding muscles are not strong.

How can we treat Shin Splints?

Treating issues related to • Back, neck and shoulder pain • Sports injuries • • Pre and post operative rehabilitation • • Muscle retraining and biofeedback • Whiplash • • Ligament sprains and muscle strains • • Postural re-education for poor posture • Treatments • Deep tissue massage • Sports massage therapy • • Joint mobilisation/manipulations • • Active release/cross frictions • • Electrotherapy (i.e. ultrasound, interferential) • • Acupuncture (Trigger Point release, Traditional Chinese) • • Exercise rehabilitation • Posture re-education • • Ergonomic advice and health promotion • Louis Jones Physiotherapy Telephone: 01273 467614 Website: www.sportsphysioshoreham.co.uk Email: louisjones.physio@googlemail.com 2nd Floor, Adur Business Centre, Little High Street, Shoreham-by-Sea, West Sussex, BN43 5EG

1. W ith most injuries the RICE method in the acute stages can be very beneficial. R = Rest the area I = Ice the area to reduce swelling and inflammation C = Compress the area to help support the injury and help improve circulation E = Elevate the area to help reduce swelling 2. A fter this initial period, if you are still suffering with pain or discomfort, which worsens with activity, then you should consult a physiotherapist. 3. Anti-inflammatory gels can be good for massaging into the painful area. 4. When you consult a physiotherapist, they will be able to advise you on correcting poor biomechanics, and exercises to help strengthen weak areas of the body. 5. Orthotics (insoles) can be helpful to help with poor mechanics. 6. Refraining from high impact exercise and doing low impact activity such as cycling or swimming can be a great way to maintain fitness until your condition has settled. If you have any queries about any of the information in this article or think that physiotherapy could help you, please do not hesitate to contact me on 01273-467614 or email me at info@louisjonesphysio.co.uk. Sweaty Feet

T

his month we are looking at and discussing the most weather appropriate issue of sweaty feet (Hyperhidrosis). Most of us have suffered from foot perspiration and odour from time to time, yet for some people, sweaty feet are a persistent problem which can be embarrassing and uncomfortable. There are more sweat glands per inch in our feet than anywhere else in the body so it’s not surprising that this can cause foot problems such as foot odour and a greater risk of minor skin infections, through athlete’s foot, or blisters. Hot weather can make matters worse, although sweaty feet is a winter, as well as a summer, problem. It can also be an inherited condition or caused through hormonal changes. If you are suffering with sweaty feet and their effects, why not make an appointment with Karen Burrett , our podiatrist, here at the First Foot Clinic, Shoreham-by-Sea.
