Boudoir L
LISA BEANEY PHOTOGRAPHY
ike many of you, I’m most comfortable in my jeans and flats. But every so often the chance to glam up comes along and I feel a secret but nervous thrill of going to a place outside my comfort zone. Nothing could have hit the nail on the head more accurately than being the model in a Boudoir photo shoot. When Lisa Beaney’s kind invitation arrived, my instant reaction was one of self-doubt. How would Lisa make me look presentable to a camera lens? Could my wobbly bits be hidden? What about the wrinkles? Nervously I arrived at Lisa’s studio in Steyning to find out… I was warmly greeted by Lisa and Erin Rose, the makeup and hair stylist. How exciting – I hadn’t had this sort of treatment since my wedding day! We began by discussing the type of look I wanted in the shoot. To be honest I hadn’t really thought about this and I was happy for them to see what they were working with and decide what would suit me best. The confirmation email I had received from Lisa was full of ideas of what underwear, shoes and jewellery to bring. Showing them my goodies helped them decide the style to go for. Erin began my make-up, explaining that it would be heavier than normal as the camera dilutes it by 20%. She went for smokey eyes and red lips. For my hair, Erin kept it quite simple, aiming for a more natural look. Once we were all happy with the look, I went upstairs to change into the first outfit Lisa and I had agreed on. I admit to being slightly apprehensive and giggled nervously as I came down. Lisa was great at alleviating my nerves though. She was full of stories and anecdotes to relax me and I was soon feeling more chilled, getting into the poses and enjoying myself! Lisa showed me several of the photos as we went along and this really helped my confidence. My initial awkwardness faded as I saw the poses I was taking really worked for the camera. My inner beauty was awakened! The whole session from make-up to the end of the photo shoot was about two hours. I felt quite a diva by the end! Back in my jeans, I welcomed a cup of tea and the chance to find out more about Lisa and her photography business. Lisa worked in IT for many years but her hobby from a young age has been photography. She has a natural eye for light and shade, angles and subjects. Such was her keenness behind the lens, when she received a lump sum of money (her first maternity pay) she treated herself to her first ‘proper’ camera. Having better equipment helped her passion for photography grow and her love of all things IT diminish. And so it was that in 2006 she felt confident enough to launch Lisa
by Ginette Stevens
Beaney Photography. Luckily, as a self-employed IT Consultant, she was able to run both businesses – one supporting the other. But soon she had built up her photography to a level where she could step away from IT. Her husband Phil took a few years longer to decide it was time for him to move on from IT. In 2009 he left the industry with plans for a 6 month break while he pondered on what career path to pick up. In those 6 months, he helped Lisa with the videoing side of the business. Five years on, he is still helping and has no other career plans in place! Phil is now a member of the Institute of Videographers, and Lisa has qualifications from the Royal Photographic Society as well as an Associateship with The Society of Wedding and Portrait Photographers. It is a great honour to become an Associate and an accolade of Lisa’s talent as only 8% of photographers get to this level. It has allowed new doors to open for Lisa and she has travelled extensively in the UK

framed. At this time of year, Lisa has started to photograph for Christmas cards and 2015 calendars. Should you want bespoke cards or calendars, please get in touch as soon as possible as your session needs to take place before the end of November. With thoughts of Christmas in my head, it was time to take my leave. I was looking forward to seeing the final results of the shoot – without a wobbly bit in sight!
Please take a look at Lisa and Phil’s website for more details of all that they offer: www.lisabeaneyphotography.co.uk speaking at conventions and running training courses. But her happiest times are behind the lens and she, along with Phil, have made their mark in several key areas of photography. Well known locally for photographing weddings, Lisa enthused about the excitement she still feels on a couple’s special day. She and Phil will do no more than 25 weddings a year to keep the freshness alive. Other areas Lisa specialises in are new-born baby photos and albums, fairy story albums (where your little girl becomes the star of the story), family portraits and, of course, boudoir. All shoots are individual to the client’s needs and requirements. Photos can be presented in a book or album, on canvas or

T
his month I was incredibly lucky to visit The Bloomsbury Clinic in Steyning and have by far my most needed treatment… a deep cleansing electro facial non surgical facelift New to Bloomsbury and with more than twenty years experience under her belt, it was very lovely to meet Helen, their new senior beauty therapist. Helen has owned and run a successful award winning salon in the past and been professionally trained in a wide range of beauty treatments, and has a thorough knowledge of product ranges having worked with Guinot GM Collin and Decleor. Helen is lovely, calm and relaxed, very friendly and an absolutely fantastic addition to the already fabulous Bloomsbury team! She will be offering a full range of treatments at Bloomsbury including *all types of facials, including deep cleansing electro facials*specialist waxing*Electrolysis*Massage-including Hot Stone, Indian Head and Aromatherapy*Eye and Lash treatments and *manicures / pedicures. We began, once settled with a deep cleanse to totally clear and cleanse my face of all the top layer make up and grime then set to work with the treatment, using electronic stimulation of muscles in the face… it doesn’t hurt at all, in any way. I could feel Helen using the wand to smooth out the lines and regenerate my skin. Non-surgical facelifts refresh and revitalise your face, designed to provide excellent results that are simply not achievable with over the counter treatments. Integra nonsurgical facelift machine used by Bloomsbury uses electrostimulation to combat lines and wrinkles and smooth out fine lines and lift tired skin. Harmless and relaxing, the electrotherapy speeds up the circulation of the natural microcurrents in the skin and stimulates any sagging areas into
action. Using the amazing Carole Franck Paris products Helen finished my treatment with an amazing, relaxing and calming facial massage including neck and shoulders. I fell into a light sleep and felt amazing afterwards! I will be honest, my skin looked more revitalised and revived than it has done in years, felt incredible to the touch and people asked me for a few days after what I had changed in my beauty regime! Bloomsbury are also introducing a new range of products by Kaeso which you will soon be able to purchase. This very popular treatment really gives excellent results immediately, with a course of regular monthly sessions the effects are maintained andkeep the skin fresh and hold off the signs of aging! Bloomsbury also run a special offer on this treatment – buy a course of four treatments and receive a £20 discount! As always my experience at Bloomsbury was a great one, lovely people and fabulous treatments, many thanks again for having me, I will be back for another facelift treatment and am booking in for the Wow-Brows next week! Visit the Bloomsbury website: www.bloomsbury-clinic.com for further information and a full list of treatments

16 • MAGIC BUTTERFLY
Magic Butterf ly This month Village Living met up with Lynne Bird from Magic Butterfly Ltd and found out a bit about her background, what motivated her to launch Magic Butterfly and basically what they are all about!
“
In 1992 when my first son Samuel was born I, like most new mums, was anxious to get my body back into shape. I started going to my local gym – helped set up a crèche so that not only could we exercise, but also make friends and have some fun. 3 years later Dominic arrived, smiling at the world. The training continued in a variety of ways, ranging from gym work, yoga, dance and badminton, always in my usual black leggings. When my partner Adrian came into my life 3 years ago, he was bursting with colour! The flowered shirts, the bright coloured ties, the smile that lasted forever. I noticed that people saw us differently, I saw myself differently. He literally bought colour into my life – the black was gone. Try putting on colour and see how it looks and feels. Walk down the street and smile – believe me your life will change. The fitness and healthy lifestyle has never left my family – Samuel is now a successful personal trainer; advising on nutrition and “how to achieve that perfect body” with clients who continually moan about the black leggings – the idea, now becomes reality – putting colour into your life, through training! Why Magic Butterfly? Well, just like a butterfly, life is a struggle; you really do get out what you put in. The logo was hand painted by my hairdresser Brandon, the styles are designed for use when you exercise and pop on a different top and you are ready for that refreshing drink afterwards. Be stylish both in and out of the gym. You can make exercise colourful, you can make it fun, enjoy your leggings and smile – the world will smile back. Go to their website and/or FB page to see for yourself! (and be in with a chance of winning a fab pair of Lynne’s leggings for yourself – I’m not sure which is my fave, think it’s the Beetlejuice ones…) Magic Butterfly’s colourful gym to street wear is made of the highest quality materials to make sure you feel as good as you look. Magic Butterfly leggings give you an empowering way to express your individual style during your workout. If staying fit is a part of your daily routine, you know the refreshing feeling that washes over you after a great workout. It’s a feeling that makes your day brighter and lasts all day! For our team at Magic Butterfly, it seems strange that doing something which makes your day brighter is so often done in dull, black gym leggings. After all, if working out is exciting, your outfit should be exciting too. Right now, you November 2014 • Village Living
will receive free delivery on Magic Butterfly orders of over £50, so what are you waiting for? Check out our new styles to add more energy to your wardrobe for a work out that stands out. That’s why Magic Butterfly is here to give your workout leggings a beautiful new look. Our colourful leggings are inspired by the same energy you harness when working out at the gym, in the studio or on the court. And when you’re done, you’ll be left looking as good as you feel.”
WIN! A PAIR OF FABULOUS LEGGINGS FROM MAGIC BUTTERFLY!

We cover all the seven areas of learning under the Early Years Foundation Stages set out by the government. We make the learning fun and interactive and our environment at Pebbles ensures the children feel safe and happy. We have great relationships with the local schools and our handover to school is something we pride ourselves in. We regularly get involved in community events, the major one being Beach Dreams and now also the Christmas Dreams! We have amazing networks to all local supports and we also have a wealth of experience working with Special Educational needs.
M
y name is Helen Wright and I took over ownership of Pebbles Pre-School Ltd in July this year. Such an exciting time for me and Pebbles. All three of my children have been to Pebbles and with the youngest (twins) started school in September. I built up a really good bond with the staff at Pebbles and was slightly sad that after my twins had left Pebbles, that would be the end of my journey with them. My original plan was to look at setting up a soft play area within the Shoreham area but this was just not possible with our budget and locality. As soon as I heard Pebbles was on the market I jumped at the chance. Such an exciting and fun opportunity. Prior to having children I worked for a Pension company as a Project Manager so I am used to working under pressure and achieving my goals and objectives. Having had three children (two of them for the price of one) I feel I do have a mums perspective and experience of children. Since July, I have been on a very steep learning curve, but I am loving every minute of it. The interaction with the children is great fun and messy play is something I love to see children explore and learn from. I have 4 members of staff that work for me and I am very lucky that they are long standing with such enthusiasm and care for the children at Pebbles. We make a great team. Pebbles Pre-School Ltd runs from Church of the Good Shepherd hall, we have a very big and bright setting with a garden available for the children to play outside. The hall has its own car park and is within easy reach of lancing and Shoreham. We can take children from the age of 2 years up until 5 years. We accept the free entitlement funding for both 2 year olds and 3 year olds.
If you would like to come and visit Pebbles then please feel free to do so, just give me a call on 07966 665127. Please like our Facebook page ‘Pebbles Pre School’

21 • MONTHLY COMPETITION WITH CANONGATE BOOKS
Competition Each month we will be offering you the chance of winning a book from those very lovely people at Canongate... November 2014
WIN! A signed copy of Ray Winstones book
From the boxing clubs and street-markets of 1970s East London to Hollywood’s red carpets – this is the story of Ray’s life as he sees it...
Ray Winstone’s amazing talent for bringing out the humanity buried inside his often brutal screen characters – violent offender in Scum, wife-beater in Nil by Mouth, retired blagger in Sexy Beast – has made him one of the most charismatic actors of his generation. But how do these uncompromising and often haunting performances square with his off-duty reputation as the ultimate salt-of-the-earth diamond geezer? The answer lies in the East End of his youth. Revisiting the bombsites and boozers of his childhood and adolescence, Ray Winstone takes the reader on an unforgettable tour of a cockney heartland which is at once irresistibly mythic and undeniably real. Told with its Ray’s trademark blend of brutal directness and roguish wit, Young Winstone offers a fascinating social history of East London, as well as a school of hard knocks coming-of-age story with a powerful emotional punch. • From the fruit and veg stall in Hackney to Hollywood red carpets – this is the first autobiography from the British screen legend • This is the story of Ray’s life as he sees it, in the vein of Chronicles by Bob Dylan and Just Kids by Patti Smith • Ray is in full support of this project and keen to be involved in PR and promotion
ABOUT THE AUTHOR
To be in with a chance of winning a signed copy of Young Winstone – email katie@village-living-magazine.co.uk with ‘monthly competition’ as your email header, and reply to the question stated! (obviously all books we offer in our competitions are available from your local bookshop).
Ray Winstone was born in Hackney Hospital in February 1957, and spent the early years of his life playing on the bombsites of Plaistow. At the age of eight, his family moved him up the A10 to the cultural wasteland of Enfield, and from that moment on, Ray was constantly looking for ways to get back home to the East End – from ‘banging up’ on his dad’s market stalls, to winning 80 out of 88 bouts as a three-time London schoolboy boxing champion for Bethnal Green’s famous Repton club. Having achieved the rare distinction of being suspended from nursery school, he was asked to leave a series of educational establishments (including drama college), before finally graduating with first-class honours from the university of life.

In all £255.41 was raised for the charity through refreshment and donations. The weather was kind for the weekend and it was lovely to see people enjoying the art, and the venue with seating available in the garden to enjoy the refreshments.Lyn runs weekly classes and workshops in the local area and can be found on Facebook (Lyn Bedford-White) and has a website www.bedford-white-art.co.uk
HOBJOINS BARN AT XMAS Hobjoins Barn is a local hidden treasure situated behind the Towers Convent School on Hyde Street, Upper Beeding. Until recently our 16th Century original timber framed barn lay dormant and neglected in our care. Earlier this year we opened its doors as part of the 2014 Steyning Arts Trail and Festival unveiling its new improved look after months of hard work and repairs. Hobjoins Barn has been the host of Art exhibitions, workshops, life drawing classes and much more since then. Hobjoins Barn’s community event this Xmas promises to be a unique festive experience. With a market style theme, Hobjoins will have gifts, handmade wreaths, art work and treasures for sale whilst showing an array of local art work including that of the Towers Convent School girls. There will be mulled wine, mince pies and cakes available to all of our visitors. We shall be raising money again for St. Barnabas House Hospice – all refreshment donations and selected items for sale will create well deserved funds for the wonderful place that is St. Barnabas. This time last year, I Lucy Watt lost my Mother aged 56 to brain cancer. The support, care and kindness that St. Barnabas House gave to both my Mother and my family was second to none. Twice yearly I will put on events at my barn which will raise money for this amazing charity. We have also recently joined forces with professional photographer Richard Ball – Hobjoins Barn will have a winter wonderland studio set up for your children to have their photograph taken in. Large high quality professional prints will be ready for you to take home after browsing at the barn. Our Xmas Art Exhibition and Market will take place on the last weekend of November. Friday 28th - 2pm til 5pm, Saturday 29th - 11am til 5pm, Sunday 30th - 11am til 5pm. Come and enjoy some great company, see some amazing art work and buy some unique gifts; all whilst raising money for St. Barnabas House Hospice.Visit our new website (PLEASE NOTE not live until 1/11/14) – www.hobjoins.co.uk or find Hobjoins Barn on Facebook to view photographs of previous events and to see what we have already been up to. Stage Fright
S
ome people might wonder how it is that some contestants on reality shows, such as X-factor produce such poor performances, despite being really talented. So many potential winners are weeded out as a result of the effects of nerves. These can include forgetting the words of a song, not hitting notes and looking like a rabbit caught in the headlights. You hear judges telling contestants to get over it. Oh, if it were that simple! Stage fright is like a phobia and has the same consequences in terms of the body’s reactions. The trigger can be one , or more, of several things, usually existing at subconscious level. This classically will include what we call ‘self-limiting beliefs’, such as ‘ I am not good enough’,’ I am not worthy’, or I do not deserve’. These are brought about from interaction with parents, siblings, teachers and peers and are often created during childhood, but persist until treated. One of the contestants, who appeared to be full of confidence was heard to say that she was amazed that her mentor had such faith in her... A sure sign of insecurity.
Even watching Strictly, where individuals, who are used to the limelight can be adversely affected with nerves, shows that these issues can be contextual. Stage fright can be initiated by a single event. In my case, I am pretty sure that my early problems stemmed from the day when I was the producer for a stage play at primary school, at the age of 7. I stood in front of the audience and referred to Queen Elizabeth 1st, ‘who lived in the 18th century.’ This produced a few laughs, but not as many as when I walked backstage and literally brought the curtain down. After that day, I was terrified of standing up in front of a crowd. A phobia was born and it was many years before I got over it. The sad thing is that people endure years of heartache, when stage fright is treatable with hypnotherapy. Usually, one or two sessions will do the trick. The approach is two-fold. firstly to identify and rectify the reasons why the problem exists. Secondly to provide the client with self-help techniques which can be used to produce a feeling of confidence whenever needed. Unfortunately though, I suspect that the producers of the reality shows
believe that some of the dramas and tears make the shows more appealing to the audiences. However, the quality of the finalists could be improved if individuals’ issues were resolved quickly and effectively. If you were to spend a moment wondering what stops you from reaching your true potential in whatever field you are in, what would be your response? If you would like to discuss this further, please contact me.
