SALLY GUNNELL OBE SAYS CHANCTONBURY LEISURE IS SO IMPORTANT FOR THE LOCAL COMMUNITY The centre is currently undergoing a re-development, opening on the 1st December, improving its facilities with a new gym, changing rooms and sauna and salt/steam rooms The charity is very proud to say that it is #more than bricks and mortar and is asking members of the local community to support its vision of a more active and healthy local community by becoming a Patron of the centre www.impulseleisure.co.uk/wcra-patrons-scheme As part of this appeal and opening of the re-developed centre there will be a charity film featuring users of the centre telling their story. Sally Gunnell OBE stars in this film and talks of the importance of the centre, whatever age you are. Sally says “So much of my life now is centred around health and wellbeing and passing on the importance of this to the wider community. These wellbeing hubs are so important to different groups as well as individuals of all different ages and abilities”. In fact, there are three charities operating under the Impulse Leisure brand (Adur Community Leisure, Thurrock Community Leisure and West Chanctonbury Recreation Association) and all with one goal in mind; ‘creating active and healthy communities’. As an organisation we have an increasing need to raise additional funding through external sources to support the

work we do and the services we provide to the community. The redevelopment at Chanctonbury Leisure Centre is one example of this work, as well as being able to continue providing our full range of services such as specialist classes, professional expertise, crèche facilities, outreach in local schools, and a community hub for the people of Chanctonbury and surrounding areas. With your support we believe we can secure the sustainability of the centre and the health and wellbeing of our local community. To find out more about our Patrons Scheme please visit www.impulseleisure.co.uk/support-us • WE HAVE OVER 1,000 MEMBERS AND A FOOTFALL OF APPROXIMATELY 115,000 PER YEAR. • WE CURRENTLY RUN 8 AFTER SCHOOL CLUBS ACROSS 4 SCHOOLS – WITH A TOTAL OF 82 CHILDREN ATTENDING EACH WEEK. • IN ADDITION, WE ARE NOW DELIVERING 5 CURRICULUM SESSIONS EACH WEEK WITH APPROXIMATELY 125 LOCAL CHILDREN. THIS IS ANOTHER GREAT EXAMPLE OF HOW OUR CHARITY IS INVESTING IN OUR LOCAL COMMUNITY.

Village Living meets...

W

e are Natasha, (the designer and seamstress) and Bluebell and Willow (the dalmatian models and chief product testers). We live by the sea on the south coast in West Sussex and we love it here, we wouldn’t want to be anywhere else in the world. The Spotted Dog Company was started out of frustration at the lack of stylish doggy products on the market. All of our products are designed and handmade by Natasha, using only the best quality and carefully sourced materials. We are always searching for new and exciting materials to add to our collection so keep an eye out for our latest products. I was delighted to meet Natasha, A seamstress by trade, after leaving London she and her husband and dogs relocated to the coast and she set up the Spotted dog company bringing glamour and chic to all dogs everywhere! She sources fabric from all over, basically anything stylish that she knows will be easy to work with and wave her magic needle over to create the most amazing doggy fashion. You can have a number of different products made either as a set or individually, bow ties, dog beds, dog and puppy collars / leads, bandanas in fact you name it, Natasha will certainly try to make it. Go to www.thespotteddogcompany for more information on how you can get your dog to be quite the talk of the town ! Natasha can be *spotted* driving around town with her fabulous and beautiful dalmations Bluebell Cheryl Goldman and Willow Beyonce Goldman….. Village Living would like to especially thank the gorgeous Bluebell for being such a fantastic model on our cover this month! You can call us on the dog and bone: 01903 755471 (Mon - Fri 10am - 6pm) or send us an email: natasha@thespotteddogcompany.co.uk or follow us on FB www.facebook.com/pages/Thespotted-Dog-Company – Notonthehighstreet and Shoreham artisan market once a month. www.villagelivingmagazine.co.uk | tel: 0785 2231512

illage Living popped down to try out the work space in Worthing. Having always worked in a big office environment I have to admit I have struggled in the past with motivation and stopping myself being distracted by the chores at home… I also miss the company and banter that working in the office provides. I have recently having taken on our fabulous Deputy Editor been working in an office area with her but had I not, The Loft Coworking in Worthing is definitely somewhere I would put on my list. It’s such a great venue, with easy access to car parks, bus and train routes, coffee shops, it’s all there! Easy to find and access I found the experience very positive. Having opened seven weeks ago, Emma is at the helm, having found herself feeling the pressure of working from home she thought there must be somewhere out there other than the library where you can go to work with other small business people, she did not find the right environment for her personally and decided to set up herself. Wow what a success, Emma has the right amount of work area, you do not feel either hemmed in, or as though sitting in an open hall! I set up my laptop with no trouble, password for wifi in hand and a coffee courtesy of the loft in hand I was good to go… I highly recommend the Loft as a venue whether you are looking for somewhere to hold a one off meet, a regular meeting, function or course. The work space is perfect for one man bands or small business colleagues. Go to the website below, call Emma and get in there for a trial in the New Year, it really could change your entire working outlook! Whether you are an established freelancer, a charity looking for an extra desk for a volunteer, or in the first stages of setting up your own business, at The Loft you can expect to find a friendly, inclusive atmosphere. You don’t need to pre book your days each time, just let Emma know how many days a month you think you would like. Then you can come in anytime, and relax and be stimulated by

turns in our unique coworking environment. You may want to knuckle down, share teabreaks, swap skills and tips with other coworkers or all three – at The Loft the choice is yours. With inclusive wifi and free tea and coffee on tap, you can even bring your breakfast! Now there’s motivation for getting out the house and back to the ‘office’! Start and end the day at your own pace at The Loft; and get involved with a new and innovative way of working. Enjoy desk space and all the perks for just • £6.65 a day (full time) • £7.50 (part time) Visit as little or as much as you like! + No hidden charges + No tie-in + No deposit, pay as you go option + No hassle Reception is open Monday to Friday, from 10am to 2pm. There is always someone around who will be happy to show you around our desk spaces, meeting rooms and friendly chill-out areas. 25 • MONTHLY COMPETITION WITH CANONGATE BOOKS

Competition Each month we will be offering you the chance of winning a book from those very lovely people at Canongate... January 2015

WIN! A copy of Russell Brands TRICKSTER TALES: The Pied Piper of Hamelin

In this, the first in his series of Trickster Tales, Russell Brand retells the classic children’s story of The Pied Piper of Hamelin. You’ll be enchanted and revolted in equal measure by the host of characters you meet along the way: the anarchic rats, the arrogant townspeople, sharp-eyed Sam and of course the Pied Piper himself, all brought to life in Brand’s inimitable style and the illustrations of Costa Award-winner Chris Riddell.

Brand has long been captivated by the power of the individual voice and the need to push for change on a grand scale. His passion for disruption, both political and social, has fed into many different projects, and none more so than with the release of both Revolution (Century) and Russell Brand’s Trickster Tales: The Pied Piper of Hamelin (Canongate) this autumn. The trickster figure, like the revolutionary, has throughout history been associated with an ability to wreak havoc and disrupt the status quo. Reaching out to adults and children who feel disenfranchised by the current system, and weaving in some of the most interesting counterculture personalities around today, Revolution is a call-to-arms to all adults. And by spreading the message to children to question, challenge and test authority, Brand will open the eyes of the young and transform the tricksters of today into revolutionaries of the future.”

COMPETITION! To be in with a chance of winning a copy of this fabulous book courtesy of those kind people at Canongate please email katie@village-living-magazine. co.uk and mark your header Russell Brand, a winner will be picked at random on Jan 20th.

29 • BELLEAU KITCHEN

Random Recipes! Some of you will have received a fabulous new recipe book for 2015, I would like to re introduce you to the blogger extraordinaire Dominic from the Belleau Kitchen, go to his blog and get involved in his Random Recipe challenge! My name is Dominic, I am a cook, food writer and creative event producer. I write the food blog Belleau Kitchen and also write a monthly recipe column for Lincolnshire Life Magazine and Good Taste Magazine. I also run creative event production company The Persuaders, producing global events for brands since 1997. I am based both in the small village of Belleau in Lincolnshire and the smaller village of London! The Belleau Kitchen #randomrecipes challengeMy... I’m sure, like me, you have hundreds of fabulous cook books at home... I get new ones for every birthday and Christmas... and since I started blogging they seem to come in more frequently than ever before... and I do LOVE to read them, flick through them for inspiration and go back to them when in need of a show-stopper dish... but I do tend to stick to what I know and I realised a year or so back that my limited repertoire was becoming a little too samey... so (and I’ll finally get around to it...) The challenge is this: 1. take all your cook books off the shelf and shuffle them ( a friendly giant will help) 2. close your eyes and run your fingers down their spines and stop at a random book 3. now, close your eyes again and randomly open the chosen book at a page 4. cook this dish (if it’s something you’ve cooked before then turn to the very next page and cook that dish)... and don’t cheat... (do it with a friend in the room who will make you stick to it...) it’s a challenge after all and you’re only cheating yourself... this is specifically designed to take you out of your comfort zone...! 5. post it up on your blog, with a link to this page and then email me with a link at dominic(@)belleaukitchen. co.uk so I know you’ve joined in, you can also attach the badge to show people you’re taking part. Personally I think it’s genius... but then I’m biased... I will post a round-up of the entries at the end of every month... The amazing round-up for October 2014 is up online. The new and current challenge for November 2014 can be read on the belleau kitchen blog ... good luck and happy random recipe dipping...
