Welcome to November! Hello & welcome to November! It’s certainly looking a lot like Autumn out there now, crispy blue sky and leafy mornings, have to say, it is my favourite time of year! This month we have started to talk about Christmas, with a selection of great places for you to browse and buy for your friends and family, we are so lucky to have so many places to choose from to shop locally! We have also been getting into the spirit of pantomime, thank you to the Capitol theatre in Horsham for their front cover, introducing this years performance of Jack and the Beanstalk. With a great cast and at such a lovely venue, its sure to be a fabulous success! Go to p8 & 9 to see our competition, win some signed merchandise! It was lovely to be able to share with you a round up of the Steyning Food and Drink Festival, so many fabulous events! We have our usual great recipe from my very favourite Dominic at Belleau Kitchen and another informative piece from Holly at West Sussex Personal Therapy. I have written below some tips for you if you are planning a bonfire party or fireworks in the garden, with the website link for more info and advice, please remember pets and wildlife in your garden, check you don’t have a family of hedgehogs nestled under the leaves and make sure your pets are safely tucked up inside! Enjoy your November, see you next month!

Here are some Firework and Bonfire safety tips for you if you are planning a party! Keep fireworks in a closed box and use them one at a time. Read and follow the instructions on each firework using a torch if necessary. Light the firework at arm’s length with a taper and stand well back. Keep naked flames, including cigarettes, away from fireworks. Never return to a firework once it has been lit. Don’t put fireworks in pockets and never throw them. Direct any rocket fireworks well away from spectators. Never use paraffin or petrol on a bonfire. Make sure that the fire is out and surroundings are made safe before leaving. Sparklers are often viewed as being harmless but they burn at fierce temperatures, equivalent to a welding torch. It is recommended that sparklers are not given to under-5s. Make sure everyone handling sparklers wears gloves. Hold sparklers at arm’s length while being lit. Don’t wave sparklers about close to other people. Never hold a baby in your arms while you are holding a sparkler. When the sparkler has finished put it in a bucket of cold water. Firework Code: www.rospa.com/home-safety/advice/fireworks-safety/

The Reader’s Turn I would like to start by saying say how much I really do appreciate the feedback I get from Village Living Magazine readers about the articles I write. And as I sit here looking out of my kitchen window at the ever-changing autumn view in front of me, I ponder on what to write about for this November article… With the season changing and so much having gone on since the last article I wrote, it’s not as though I am ever lost for words and always have something to write about relating to life or therapy. However, in my pondering and looking, I have been thinking about “you” the reader… and wondering what is happening with you at this time of year as you go about your daily lives? This got me thinking and led me to wondering whether or not I could read your minds about other various issues I believed you may like to read about; but given that I am not a mind reader, I seem to have drawn a blank!! So… for anyone who reads my bi-monthly articles, you may well know that I do love to ask the odd reflective question… here goes. In my therapeutic capacity as a Counsellor and Hypnotherapist, I put it to all you lovely readers of Village Living Magazine … are there any particular subjects, themes or issues that you would like the answers to? Being totally aware you all have busy lives, I wonder if there is anything niggling at the back of your mind, staring directly at you, or is there something you just can’t put your finger on that you’d like some understanding and awareness of, and maybe an answer to?

This could be… • How to manage stressful situations. • Coping with problems at home or at work. • Coping with grief after losing a loved one. • Coping with teenagers. • Having marriage difficulties. • Feeling unwanted. • Feeling unloved. • Feeling lonely or isolated. • Coping with depression. • Being overweight. • Consuming too much alcohol. • B eing reliant on prescription and non-prescription drugs. • Having to cope with ongoing health problems. • Lacking in confidence. • Having low self-esteem. I am sure there are many of you out there that can add several more categories to the list and even include some positives!! I would really like to hear from you if you feel able to share an inner most question or thought with me, which I may be able to help provide the answer towards… If you would like me to write and answer about something that is close to your heart in your daily life, I would very much like to hear from you via email… holly@westsussexpersonaltherapy.co.uk

THE LITTLE BEAUTY BACK IN SALON TIME • 19

Having recently qualified with the finishing touches training group as a Semi Permanent Make-up Artist, Amy, owner and therapist at The Little Beauty Salon in Shoreham, is taking the area with her new-found skills by storm! “Having been a beauty therapist for 11 years semi-permanent make up is something I’ve always been interested in and wanted to do, I have my own salon in Shoreham but have set up semi perm make up as a separate business as would like to travel around other salons eventually doing clinics there. Having trained with Finishing Touches one of the leading training providers for semi perm make up in June I was assessed in August this year, passing with flying colours!”

room where the area to be treated was assessed and colours selected, the look I wanted to achieve was discussed. We started with my eyebrows and began by measuring and drawing on my brows till we found the shape I was happy with then, the tattooing began! It really doesn’t hurt, at all, and the effect is fantastic. Micro blading is a very popular tecnique at the moment due to the crisp hair strokes but with the wide range of different needles nowadays you can get the same result with the digital machine and also able to create different looks from hair strokes to powder brows. We went for the lips next, which are also drawn on prior to treatment, the lips are literally tattooed on over the drawn-on shape and coloured in using a thicker needle. As before, Amy drew over my natural shape and we checked until the desired look was in place. For the eyeliner, the natural lash line is followed, not drawn on, it may look slightly terrifying but it’s not, it’s really not and again, does not hurt! After the first treatment, the skin can *kick out* the pigment after the first time as it doesn’t recognise it that is why it can be patchy after one treatment and why second treatment is a must, this time the skin recognises it and holds it. Treatment isn’t complete until at least 2 treatments have been done. Amy as always, made me feel comfortable, at ease and ensured that I was fully briefed on procedure and ensured that I was 100% happy with the lines and shapes discussed.

The Little Beauty Salon

AutumnWinter2017 Stormy, strange colour skies, falling temperatures and woollen wear in the shops can only mean Autumn is here with Winter not far behind. It is therefore time to get your house looking lovely before getting the Christmas decorations down from the attic! Whilst on the subject of walls your choice in wall art this season is key to your room looking ‘on trend’ this Autumn. You should be choosing written prints that have meaning to you and that have used interesting typography.

So, what are you going to do to your home to get it looking lovely? Well you are going to follow my guide to the key Autumn Winter trends, of course! Colours to be splashing on the walls of your home this season are; grey, yes still grey, and yes, every shade of grey is still very much in favour in the interior world. For all of you over the grey palette fear not because there are a lot more colours to choose from the palette including pink, orange and a really rich deep shade of Navy.

The trend I am championing you put within your four walls this season is ‘Industrial’. I am 100% unashamedly a supporter of the industrial trend; metals, woods and brick are the materials I love to work with. Lucky for me this trend has become big again this Autumn with key items now available on the high street, like these spectacular lighting options from Next. To lift this look with some colour (and fun) I recommend adding one of the amazing neon light signs from local company Rockett St George. If you would like help creating your Autumn home or guidance with the Industrial trend please don’t hesitate to contact us.
