7 • ARTISAN BAKEHOUSE
Inspiring New Year events at The Artisan Bakehouse The Artisan Bakehouse in Ashurst, offers two picture postcard holiday cottages, a bread making school and also a delightful licenced Teabarn for hosting private lunches or tea parties.
T
he Tea Barn and lovely gardens offer delicious homemade lunches, mouth watering handmade cakes and afternoon teas, fresh hand-made Artisan baked breads and some of the best local foods that Sussex produces including fruit and vegetables from their own cottage garden. The Bakehouse & Teabarn also open to the public four times a year although you need to book as they are becoming increasingly popular! The bread making workshops are very informative and lots of fun. All the bread is baked in a traditional wood fired oven so bakers get the chance to use a baker’s peel and bake their own loaves. Course numbers are limited to six to ensure a great hands on experience and they can hold private baking workshops for groups of friends or family by arrangement. It’s a great way to enjoy learning a new skill in such a gorgeous environment and time to relax and enjoy lunch too. The team at the Bakehouse have now also decided to link arms with local businesses, Shorebeing and KB Fitness to launch some exciting new demonstrations & retreats at this idyllic location. During January and beyond they will not only be offering their bread making classes but also hosting a series of food related cookery demonstrations to inspire us to eat & live well. Local Personal Trainer & Chef, Koen Bouckaert of KB Fitness will be there helping people to make a great start to 2016 with his new weight loss programme. Packed with nutritious, flavoursome ingredients, each meal is 500 calories or less and encourages people to take control of their food intake without compromising on flavour. Koen will be demonstrating 3 dishes from the programme and will share his top tips for healthy weight loss. You will then get the opportunity to enjoy a delicious 3 course healthy lunch to try all the dishes made on the day. Do you lack energy? Do you start to feel sluggish as the day goes on? Then the interactive workshop with health coaches Hannah & Helen from Shorebeing could be just what you need. It focuses on the type of foods that provide a natural energy boost and explores easy ways of incorporating these foods into your everyday diet. There will be 3 demonstrations and also a practical element where you will see how easy it can be to make energising meals.
Shorebeing will also be running special Retreat days at The Bakehouse during the year incorporating a pilates & mindfulness session as well as nutrition advice where you can be sure to leave feeling renewed and energised. The Artisan Bakehouse is located in Ashurst, West Sussex, on the B2135 just a couple of minutes’ drive from Steyning. It’s a perfect place for a relaxing break, a celebration, to learn to make bread and other nutritious dishes, and to enjoy lunch or afternoon tea in the truly idyllic surroundings. It is open all year round for private hire & bread making workshops but has limited special public openings during the year for the Tea barn. Contact them for more information or to book your place on one of the exciting workshops. Alternatively book a table to enjoy lunch or tea when they open to the public. Next opening 23rd February 2016. You won’t be disappointed! Contact: Telephone 01903 810410 Email info@theartisanbakehouse.com www.theartisanbakehouse.com www.facebook.com/theartisanbakehouse

The power of bellydance! All over the world women are shimmying, circling and undulating their way to fitness and happiness. The drums, the flute, the accordian, the violin, the sax, the oud, the kanoon and the voice call the body to move and express the sounds and emotions evoked by the music. This is the kind of dance to get lost in and get fit and body strong without realising…
I
first became mesmerised by this dance in Morocco when I attended weddings and parties. In London I got a taste for how bellydance can be performed professionally and it was in Cairo that I truly experienced the magic of the dance and the dancer – I hope everyone gets to feel this one day! However, my classes are not about performing (although the opportunity arises here and there) but enjoying your body and learning new ways for it to move and become strong. One of the main attractions of bellydance is that it feels good; this is what gets people hooked. In fact, it makes
you feel glorious… and glorious as you, because there is no need to conform to a certain body ideal for this dance. I feel very enthusiastic about sharing this dance as I have gained so much from it: an expressive outlet, body confidence, new friends, knowledge and creativity. I invite you to come along and join in the power of bellydance! For more info go to www.nadiaundine.com Classes starting at the West Street Loft in Shoreham on Saturday the 19th of March Note: You are not required to show your belly!
Soundbite from student (Lois) Belly dance classes with Nadia Undine are fun, friendly, light-hearted and excellent exercise – I can really feel muscles working. I first joined the class in October 2013, thinking belly dance sounded like something new for me to try, but might end up like yoga and swimming where I’ve dabbled now and then and lost interest. Not the case. It’s the first form of exercise I’ve stuck at because it does not feel boring or monotonous like some other forms of exercise – it’s a beautiful expressive art form. Whilst the content of the classes is taken seriously, there is often lots of laughter and it’s an upbeat experience, and after attending several 07932 234 100 classes and getting familiar with dance moves its possible to ‘get lost in the music’ and just enjoy dancing – which feels brilliant, akin BN3 1RE to meditation. As a toddler I had been dragged by an eager parent along to ballet classes, which I hated, and as a result I’d avoided anything to do with dance until taking up belly dancing.

Debby Holmes-Smith started her career as a ballet dancer, soon becoming too tall she was spotted by the famous ‘Bluebells’ and offered a contract to dance at ‘The Lido’ in Paris’s Champs Elysee and in Las Vegas. Then followed a number of years as a successful leg model and internationally on the catwalk for fashion houses such as Chanel, Dior and Gucci. She then opened her own model agency which was top of its league throughout the 80’s and 90’s culminating in four branches across the South East of England in London’s Regent Street, Brighton, Guildford and Southampton. Following the birth of her sixth child Debby retired from the industry and now owns and runs Bloomsbury Clinic& Studio and ModelXP and has created her very own unique class... Ballet Stretch.

Lose between 7-14 lb in 9 days on the C9 - The 9 day cleanse by Forever Living After doing the Clean 9 myself and after hearing many other success stories, I now promote this program alongside colonics, probiotics, digestive enzymes and colon cleanses where I practice at The Bloomsbury Clinic in Steyning, West Sussex. During a colonic treatment I give my clients plenty of nutritional advise but sometimes we all just need a plan to follow to kick start us in the right direction. We are then hopefully in a better place to make long term changes to our health. The hardest part of any detox is actually starting it! How can I fit it in? I’m going out at the weekend, this is happening, that is happening? What can I say, we all lead busy lives, we all have social events, meals out, meals in, just GO FOR IT, and DO IT NOW! Once you start the time soon goes by and the benefits are so great that you’ll wish you’d started it sooner!

INGREDIENTS: 15 oz.store-bought pizza dough, 1 1/3 cups corn kernels (from 2 ears), 1/2 ounce Parmesan cheese, grated (1/4 cup), 3/4 teaspoon minced garlic (from 1 medium garlic clove), 4 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil, divided, Coarse salt, 2 small tomatoes (5 to 6 ounces total), thinly sliced (7 to 9 slices), 4 to 6 ounces mozzarella, thinly sliced, 1/2 cup fresh basil leaves. Let dough sit at room temperature (in package) 4 hours. Puree corn, Parmesan, garlic, 2 tablespoons oil, and 1/2 teaspoon salt in a food processor until smooth with small chunks. Spread remaining oil on a baking sheet or pizza pan. Place dough on pan, and stretch to an even thickness, turning to coat both sides with oil. Let rest 1 hour, then re-stretch. Preheat grill to medium. Season dough with salt, and transfer to grill, making sure to keep dough flat and even. Cover grill, and cook until dough is just charred on bottom, 5 to 6 minutes, checking frequently. Flip dough. Spread corn mixture on dough, and top with tomato slices. Season with salt, and top with mozzarella. Cover grill, and cook until toppings are warmed through and mozzarella has melted, 5 to 6 minutes. Top with basil, and serve.
