Inspire Me
This section is packed full of stories, pictures and motivational quotes which will hopefully inspire you to do great things with your life, being kinder and happier along the way no matter what your circumstances may be!
Don’t let circumstances decide your fate! Make the best out of your circumstances. Don’t lose sight of what you do have while complaining about what you don’t! Albert Einstein, arguably the world’s greatest ever physicist; Leonardo da Vinci, master artist, inventor and leading figure of the Italian Renaissance; Thomas Edison, pioneer in early motion pictures and inventor of the light bulb and many more of the world’s most successful people are all said to have displayed signs of learning difficulties such as dyslexia. They all performed poorly in school and told they were stupid, talentless and incapable of being successful. I
4
don’t have to tell you that the opposite was true for all of these amazing people. Each and every one of them were undeterred by their ‘disabilities’ and refused to use it as an excuse to be lazy. They worked hard and showed the world that anything is possible with determination and focus. You can be whoever you want to be, do whatever you want to do and succeed in everything you partake in. Don’t let uncontrollable circumstances stand in your way of success.

On exam it was well healed, so I talked to one of the doctors, got the needed supplies to remove his sutures and redressed his wound. While taking care of him, we began to engage in conversation.
What Love is all about It was a busy morning, approximately 8:30 am, when an elderly gentleman in his 80s arrived to have stitches removed from his thumb. He stated that he was in a hurry and that he had an appointment at 9:00 am. I took his vital signs and had him take a seat, knowing it would be over an hour before someone would be able to see him. I saw him looking at his watch and decided, since I was not busy with another patient, I would evaluate his wound.
“
I asked him if he had a doctor’s appointment this morning, as he was in such a hurry. The gentleman told me no, that he needed to go to the nursing home to eat breakfast with his wife. I then inquired as to her health. He told me that she had been there for a while and was a victim of Alzheimer’s Disease. As we talked and I finished dressing his wound, I asked if she would be worried if he was a bit late. He replied that she no longer knew who he was, and hadn’t recognized him in five years. I was surprised, and asked him, “And you still go every morning, even though she doesn’t know who you are?” He smiled and patted my hand and said, “She doesn’t know me, but I still know who she is.”
Don’t worry about failures, worry about the chances you miss when you don’t even try.
”
According to scientists, the bumblebee’s body is too heavy and its wingspan too small. Aerodynamically, the bumblebee cannot fly. But the bumblebee does not know that and it keeps flying. When you don’t know your limitations, you go out and surprise yourself. Looking back, you wonder if you ever had any limitations to begin with. The only limitation a person has are self-imposed! Don’t let anyone or anything put a limit on you!

Top Tips Each month Worth A Read shares a few simple practical tips for improving various aspects of your life. We hope you learn something new and have fun applying some of these tips!
3 Tips for Natural Whiter Teeth! Let’s face it, we all desire nice pearly whites when it comes to our teeth. There are hundreds of whitening toothpastes or expensive treatments available to help; however, white teeth don’t need to cost you any money. Try these natural tips for whiter teeth using common household products and let us know how they work for you! • Coconut oil: Much of the yellow colour on our teeth is caused by bacteria which most people call plaque. Plaque causing bacteria binds to the coconut oil and is removed from the mouth when rinsed. It also contains Lauric acid which is a proven anti-microbial. For best results, once a day for 10 days, swill a tablespoon of coconut oil around the mouth for 10-20 minutes before brushing. Coconut oil has many other health benefits too, an essential in any household pantry. • Baking soda & Lemon juice: Mix 2-3 teaspoons of baking soda with enough lemon juice to make a paste. Apply to teeth using your toothbrush and leave on for about 1 minute. Be careful not to leave on for too long and make sure you rinse your mouth because the acid in the lemon juice can affect the enamel. • Banana peels: Rubbing the inside of banana peels on your teeth will help remove stains and shine them without the need for harsh chemicals and expensive treatments!

5 Top Tips to Losing Weight Why is it so hard to keep on track with your healthy diet, exercise and weight loss targets? Simply put, you have to burn more calories than you eat in order to lose weight. Seems simple but with almost 30% of adults in Darlington obese in 2012, losing weight is certainly an issue many of us Darlingtonians need help with. • E xercise regularly! – Try to do at least 20 minutes of exercise per day, 5 days per week. The longer and more intense you work out for, the more calories you will burn. • Eat only until satisfied, not until you are full! • N o excuses! – Be aware of the excuses you make to yourself and don’t let them get in the way of your goals. • S hop wisely – Be aware of what you are buying when shopping. If you are aiming to lose weight, but still pack the supermarket trolley full of crisps, biscuits and sugary drinks, chances are you will be tempted off-course.
Confidence booster Raising your arms in a ‘V’ shape will do wonders for your confidence. Stand with a wide stance and your arms in the air wide for 2 minutes and feel the power for yourself. You can do it first thing in the morning or sneak off somewhere no one will see before situations when extra confidence is required!
• D on’t eat in front of the TV – or anything else distracting. British researchers have found that people eat up to 25% more food when distracted! Turn off the TV, take time to enjoy your food and feel when you’re getting full. • T he key to keeping on track – Form habits! Schedule specific days of the week and times for when you are free to exercise. Doing this will make it easier to stick to. It is far too easy to forget about the gym and do something else instead. • S et yourself mini exercise tasks before doing daily activities – For example, every time you boil the kettle, set yourself the challenge to do 5 squats before filling your mug, every time… Or every time you find yourself on Facebook, do 10 push ups… Get creative with it and keep it fun.

Jokes
Reaching the end of a job interview, the Human Resources Officer asks a young engineer fresh out of University, “And what starting salary are you looking for?” The engineer replies, “In the region of £125,000 a year, depending on the benefits package.” The interviewer inquires, “Well, what would you say to a package of 14 weeks paid holidays, full medical and dental, company matching retirement fund to 50% of salary, and a company car leased every two years, say, a Jaguar XK?” The engineer sits up straight and says, “Wow! Are you kidding?” The interviewer replies, “Yeah, but you started it.”
As I was taking a walk with my daughter one day, I noticed something green in her hair. To my disbelief I pulled out a piece of lettuce from her hair. “Whoa!” she exclaimed. “Is there anything else in there?” she asked. “Oh no!” I joked, “that was just the tip of the Iceberg!”

Paul, late for an important meeting, was searching desperately for a parking spot in a parking lot. Looking up to the heaven’s he entreated “God if you find me a parking spot, I promise to start going to church again.” The words were barely out of his mouth, when a spot opened up right in front of his car. Paul looked back up, “never mind, I found one.”

A shot of Victoria Road looking up to Bank Top Railway Station, first in 1890, then again in 2015! Given 125 years have now passed, no major changes have been made. You can see the early attempts to grow trees along the roadside must have failed, and the obvious appearance of the modern car.
