TRISTAN’S JOURNEY IN PLASTIC SURGERY

Auckland Plastic Surgery is a well established clinic in Auckland NZ and Dr Tristan de Chalain is a distinguished plastic surgeon in private practice since 1997.. With a career rooted in a passion for healing and transformation, Tristan has made significant contributions to the field, previously serving as a senior consultant surgeon at Middlemore Hospital and a visiting specialist at Starship Children’s and Auckland Public hospitals.

Tristan’s expertise spans a wide array of specialties, including facial restoration after trauma or cancer, body contouring, complex reconstructions, and paediatric plastic surgery. He is also renowned for his proficiency in breast and hand surgeries. As an aesthetic surgeon, Tristan is celebrated for his comprehensive approach to facial rejuvenation, offering both surgical and nonsurgical treatments for the eyelids, face, mid-face, neck, mouth, chin, and brow.

Born in Canada, Tristan’s medical journey began in South Africa, where he completed his medical and surgical degrees. He pursued advanced postgraduate fellowships at Emory University’s affiliated hospitals in Atlanta and the prestigious Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto. This extensive training equipped him with cutting-edge techniques in body contouring, facial rejuvenation, micro-surgical reconstruction, paediatric and cranio-facial surgery, and the treatment of congenital malformations like vascular anomalies and cleft lip and palate. At Emory, he also pioneered and taught endoscopic techniques for facial rejuvenation.

In 1997, Tristan joined the senior staff at Middlemore Hospital’s Plastic Surgery Unit, focusing on cleft lip and palate surgery and chest wall reconstruction. His dedication to his field has earned him numerous awards and scholarships, and he has contributed over 40 peerreviewed journal articles and book chapters.

Tristan’s commitment to facial restoration, particularly following skin cancer, injury, or ageing, remains a cornerstone of his practice. His philanthropic spirit shines through his work with Operation Restore Hope NZ and his volunteer services at the Auckland Regional Charitable Hospital.

Outside his professional life, Tristan enjoys tinkering in his shed, writing, and reading. He is a devoted family man, happily married with two adult children.
