The updated interior boasts a blackened steel feature wall and polished concrete floor, while the open plan kitchen enjoys engineered stone and stainless steel bench tops. The dining and living area is surrounded by ceiling-to-floor windows which highlight the formidable drama of Lake Wānaka and invoke a sense of renewal and energy. Meanwhile, the living area leads out on to the large deck, sheltered by over-sized eaves which mirror the original design. The exterior, which is also inkeeping with the existing house, was built using Rosenfeld Kidson vertical cedar cladding and plaster. The judges of the 2021 House of the Year Southern Region Awards described this project as a clever, seamless renovation that embraced and built upon the original form.
