MD’S UPDATE

Looking Forward It appears that the worst of the recession is now behind us and it’s time to look towards the future. I believe that our investment in recent months whilst many of our rivals have downsized has put us in a strong position going forwards. In recent months we have achieved a great deal as you will see from the training, environmental and health & safety sections of the newsletter. All our employees have worked incredibly hard to help us achieve so much and I am truly grateful for their previous and ongoing efforts.

OTHER NEWS

Since our last newsletter we have completed our project at Tameside Hospital, a challenging project which achieved practical completion on time and is now being occupied by the nursing staff. We have also completed works on phase 1 of The Sharp project in Newton Heath for Bramall construction, works on phase 1A are ongoing and phases 2 and 4 are due to commence imminently. Bramall are a new client for Met-Excel and we are pleased to be able to say that we have achieved 87.5% client satisfaction as monitored in our client report forms which form part of our ISO9001-2008 management system.

CONTRACTS & TENDERING NEWS

Tendering News Activity in our estimating department remains strong with encouraging signs of increased workload over the coming months; Building Schools for the Future: The BSFF programme has now commenced in Rochdale with £196’000’000.00 to be spent over the coming years on 14 new and refurb projects in the Borough. Inspired spaces, a company set up by Carillion and its joint venture partners have invited Met-Excel to submit quotations for the internal packages on two of the new schools to date. The Oldham BSFF programme is worth £230’000’000.00 and is also due to commence in the coming months.

Sharp Project

As a local company Met-Excel employ a large number of operatives from within the Oldham and Rochdale Borough’s, we are ideally placed therefore to assist the principal contractors in achieving targets set by the respective councils for local procurement.

Phase 1 is now complete on the Sharp Project in Newton Heath. Phase 1 is now complete on the Sharp Project, a new media hub being created at the Old Sharp factory in Newton Heath. We are working closely with Bramall Construction on this project and have installed new partition walls and glazed screen walling systems on phase 1. Phase 1A works are ongoing and are on schedule and phase 2 and 4 works are due to start imminently.

Tameside Hands Over on Time We are pleased to announce that the EMI unit at Tameside Hospital achieved practical completion on the 15th September; we wish Balfour Beatty’s site team all the best on their next project and look forward to working with them again in the future.

Met-Excel’s new office in Heywood

Heywood Office Conversion We are currently in negotiations with North Manchester Enterprise Group to begin the conversion of the old police garages at the Tops Business centre into a large annex office with storage facilities, the deal would include are taking the new office on a long term lease.

TRAINING, HEALTH & SAFETY NEWS

Met-Excel – 100% dedicated to high standards of H&S and continued staff development This has been a very busy period for our company and we would like to congratulate our staff on their recent achievements.

First Aid Course Michael Edge and Kieran McGuinness have now completed their four day first aid course which means we now have three fully qualified first aid operatives, it is our intention to increase this to five in the next quarter to help us achieve our target of having a first aider on every site we work on.

Harness Awareness Course Met-Excel staff recently completed a harness awareness course with Ace Training Solutions.

IT Training Michael Edge and Kieran McGuinness have now completed their 1st training course and are enrolled on an advanced course.

Simon Hill welcomes Marcus & Thomas

New Apprentices We would like to welcome are newest apprentice Marcus Roberts to Met-Excel, Marcus is due to begin his college course along with Thomas McGuinness at Mortimor Training in Liverpool on October 21st. We are committed to training our workforce of the future to the highest of standards and with the support of our team we are sure that both lads have a very bright future.

NVQ Qualifications Three members of staff have achieved NVQ level 2 qualifications in this quarter, two members of staff are proceeding with level three and also two continuing with their level four course.

Safety Management Our She safety management system is now being incorporated into our everyday business and we have another training day booked in October to allow more of our staff to understand this excellent system. Once fully incorporated we intend to be assessed for Ohsas 18001.

Build a Better Business Course Simon Hill and Andy Wertylo are now half way through a Build a Better Business course with business solutions, this will put us into a position where we can request assessment for full Investors In People accreditation, we currently have a certificate of commitment.

Ear, Ear..... A construction worker accidentally cuts off one of his ears with an electric saw. He calls out to a guy walking on the street below, "Hey, do you see my ear down there?" The guy on the street picks up an ear, "Is this it?" "No," replies the construction worker, "mine had a pencil behind it."

Roach Dynamos under elevens We are proud to be the new sponsors of Roach Dynamos under elevens football team and to have been able to provide them with a new football kit. Roach play in the North Bury Junior football Premier league and are a charter standard club. Our employees are encouraged to watch the boys whenever possible and we are committed to giving them our continued support.

Recent Results:

All of us at Met-Excel have worked incredibly hard over the last quarter to achieve an impressive set of accreditations. We are now an ISO9001-2008 registered company, have achieved ISO14001 recognition for our environmental and sustainability procedures, we have achieved Chas accreditation, Constructionline registration and we have received a certificate of commitment to Investors In People whilst working towards assessment for full recognition towards the end of this year. We have also received a platinum award from CSCS for our commitment to a fully trained and registered workforce.
