The original structure of this property is rich in history and was built in 1916 by one of the country’s leading horse trainers, William K. Dickerson. In the heart of this amazing turn of the century home is a fieldstone fireplace that has embedded in it, the horseshoe of the legendary trotting horse, Dan Patch. The home and surrounding farmland was purchased by James Ottaway Sr. with his wife, Ruth Blackburne Hart Ottaway in 1960. Jim and Ruth resided here for many years, incorporating Ruth’s passion of raising purebred Arabian horses by establishing Blackburne Farm. The original building with several additional buildings became the corporate headquarters of Ottaway Newspaper Group. In 2009, the buildings and surrounding property was purchased by Blackburne Development. Masterwork Home and Rieger Homes partnered to create Blackburne Homes in 2016.
