H IRSHORN PARK Hirshorn park is located in the trendy neighborhood of Lohi on 16th and Tejon Street. Sitting next to the popular Little Man Ice Cream and up and coming restaurants, Hirshorn park is a valuable location for the residents around the area.


LOH I NEIG HB ORHOOD • Founded by William Larimer Jr. in 1858 • Original purpose was to provide residential space that was easily accessible from Auraria and Denver • Mostly suburban area; includes retail, food/drink establishments, and residential apartments • Italian, German, Mexican, and Scottish immigrants have left their mark on the area

PHASE ONE

R E SE ARC H 1 Through partnering with the City of Denver the goal of this project is to redesign Hirshorn Park, located in the neighborhood of LoHi. Phase one has consisted of on site observations, background information collection, and research focusing on existing parks.

FINDIN G S & OU T R E AC H 2 Social media and physical outreach are just a few of the aspects that made up phase two of our research. Understanding not only the communities view, but who we are designing for and why was our goal question to be answered.

Hirshorn Park hosts an annual July 4th event which consists of events such as face painting, live music, and more. In order to get as much feedback from the community as possible we set up public forum boards to allow the park goers to voice their opinion about the park.

Yes, better there than Hirshorn! (The restaurants on Central might not like it though)

Eclectic architecture, variety of businesses, and multitude of neighbors out walking and exploring the neighborhood!

I know some folks have asked for a dog park—I think the dirt/grassy strip on Central Ave across from Ale House at Amato’s would be perfect—no grass grows there anyway and it’s completely unused space.

I'm not sure that's the best place for a dog park, but something really should be done with that space!

I've always thought it would be nice to have a pop up mini farmers market or something like that there (especially since ours on Boulder Street stopped happening - that was disappointing).

Would love to see field at Hirshorn made available to all neighbors to enjoy as its one of the few large grassy areas within our boundaries.

I love the “neighborhood-feel”. Hirshorn has the best of everything to bring a neighborhood together: kids playground, basketball courts, and baseball field all right next to an ice cream store. The 4th of July parade/party vis the BEST!

It has a neighborhood vibe (e.g., events happening at Little Man) while being connected to downtown. I love being able to get around by walking and on bike.

D E SIGN 3 After compiling all of the research about the site itself and more insight into the neighborhood of LoHi, the concept for redesigning Hirshorn Park starts to take shape, inspiring a new vision for this small, neighborhood escape in the busy city of Denver.

The re-design of Hirshorn Park will provide LoHi with much needed gathering space and amenities to support the growth of the existing attractions and the neighborhood as a whole.

The purpose of this design is to facilitate community interaction by connecting Hirshorn Park to the diverse culture of LoHi.
