Hi and a very warm welcome to the November/December, Christmas…Yes I said it... Christmas edition of EAUX
I
t has been a long road well traveled in 2017, with highs and lows all around. For some it has been one of their best yet, others it has been full of turmoil and fraught with challenge. Here at EAUX HQ its been no different. We saw the relaunch of the new look magazine and an ever incasing readership, new management team and a total shift in the direction of the title. It was touch and go, but in the end It has been a great third anniversary edition of the magazine and I am proud to be part of it.
I find myself looking back on 2017 with a simple phrase in my mind “Tu Me Manques” simply put, you are missing from me. It reminds me of everything that has come and gone, and the truth that time is the only thing that truly gets us through. Remember the good times and try to let go of the bad. Sometimes in life you need to realise that its too short. Things happen and things change. 2017 will soon be a distant foot note in your story, let the future be all you want it to be and more. Here is 2018 and all that it holds.
Garden Centres on how to make your home a truly festive winter wonderland. (pg12), We look Aston Martins new Power Boat as well as catch up with Pam Davis in our Autumn Styling feature. Thank you to our wonderful county of Suffolk for all it brings and thank you, to all of you, our amazing readers. From all of us here at EAUX, have a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. See you in 2018
In this issue of EAUX, I have been fortunate enough to be guided by our friends at Wyevale

EAUX Christmas Tree...
HOW TO MAKE THE PERFECT FESTIVE ENTRANCE make it look as beautiful as it can possibly be this Christmas.
elcome to the Christmas edition of EAUX Magazine, hard to believe that this year has gone so quickly. To get you all in the festive mood, we have teamed up with our friends at Wyevale Garden Centres to give you some seasonal hints and tips about how to get the most from your home this Christmas.
BRING THE INDOOR PLANTS OUTSIDE Natural foliage such as bay trees, wreaths, teardrops, small potted Christmas trees, and poinsettias make any covered porch area look festive and welcoming, while glimpses of red and gold ribbons and baubles add the perfect traditional look to any guests.
As the first thing to be seen when entering a home, special attention should be made to the entrance in your home to
CONSISTENCY IS KEY To impress all your guests and to ensure your Christmas decks are the talk of the neighbourhood,
take care to keep the same theme as your indoor dĂŠcor to have an overarching festive appearance. LET THERE BE LIGHT While the doorway and outdoor of the home is traditionally the area to be merry and bright, make sure not to go overboard with lights that might distract from the Christmas dĂŠcor of your home entrance. Lining the edges of the doorway or house, and delicately wrapping around larger garden trees and potted Christmas plants is enough to make sure that your house shines brighter than any other on your street.

CREATING A BEAUTIFULLY FESTIVE HALLWAY… Now that you have the entrance sorted, its time to think about the inside of your house, starting with the hallway.
Wyevale Garden Centres
While not being the room where your main Christmas tree may stand, this doesn’t mean that the Christmas spirit can’t reach other areas of your home. Hallways, corridors, and staircases are great areas to place advent calendars throughout December, and they are brilliant ways of extending the Christmas theme throughout the entire house.
Smaller potted Christmas trees and festive garlands add traditional Christmas décor to any room, while adorning staircases and coffee tables with stockings and wrapped gifts brings magic to the whole house throughout the winter period.

HOW TO CHOOSE THE PERFECT REAL CHRISTMAS TREE Every home is not complete until you have picked the main feature of the season… The tree. Here are 7 top tips to ensure you get it right first time.
1
Don’t wait until the last minute to buy your tree – they are all cut around the same time [At Wyevale Garden Centres we cut ours late October early November] so buying early means you have the widest choice and can start caring for your tree as soon as possible.
2
3
The colour of the needles should be a dark green rather than pale and washed out, and should feel waxy to the touch, not dry. David Mitchell (Wyevale Garden Centres’ Real Christmas tree buyer) recommends you should stroke the tree to see if needles come off easily.
4
6 7
Once you’ve brought your tree inside make sure you fill the stand with water to continue to feed the needles. Keep your tree away from direct sunlight, draughts and heat from radiators and fireplaces to avoid drying it out and shortening its life. Ideally, try to use LED tree lights which emit less heat and are better for the environment
Wyevale Garden Centres
If you’re concerned about needle-dropping choose a variety of tree such as the Nordman Fir, which is known to retain its needles. Wyevale Garden Centres offer a no-needle drop guarantee on our Nordman Fir trees – if a large amount of needles drop before Christmas, and you have followed our care tips, we will give you another one for free.
5
Keep your Christmas tree fresher for longer by chopping or sawing a few centimetres off the bottom and soaking it in a bucket of water outside, either overnight or for as long as possible, before bringing it inside. Experts at your local Wyevale Garden Centre can show you the best way to do this, just ask!
Wyevale Garden Centres
Buy a tree that has had the netting removed for display – that way you can see the shape and be confident the tree has been looked after. Trees left in netting can begin to form a micro climate where the centre warms up making them more prone to needle drop and can shorten its life. All of Wyevale Garden Centres trees
are de netted on arrival which means they can breathe and are regularly misted with fresh water.

HOW TO DECORATE YOUR HOME WITH BEAUTIFUL FRESH FESTIVE FOLIAGE So now that you have everything in place its now time for the finishing touches… What house is complete without the festive foliage, here are top tips to finish off your Christmas decor.
Wyevale Garden Centres Wyevale Garden Centres
By far the most popular of the indoor plants at this festive time of year, the traditional symbol of the Christmas Star is a must have this December. Easy to grow and maintain in bright rooms over the winter period, these beautiful star shaped flowers will hold their vibrant colours from the time the tree goes up until long after the New Year decorations come down.
16
EAUX MAGAZINE - SUFFOLK EDITION - WWW.EAUX.CO.UK
CHRISTMAS CACTUS To add a burst of colour to the cold winter nights, the wonderfully easy to look after Christmas cactus (otherwise known as Schlumbergera) brightens and freshens any room with it’s purple flowers that will carry on spreading joy until early spring. Although available in a variety of colours, the vivid purple flower remains the most popular.
ORCHIDS FOR CHRISTMAS A favourite all year round, orchids are a wonderful way to add fresh foliage to your Christmas décor this year. Easy to grow and with a lifespan of several months, orchids are one of the more exotic yet most popular flowering plants for Christmas. Kept away from heat sources and watered sparingly, the Cymbidium or Boat orchid should be the top of your decoration list.

David Lloyd introduces fast paced workouts for those on a time limit

ith today’s fast- paced lifestyle, some of us don’t have the time to fit in a vigorous workout between office hours, socialising and personal time, especially when you want to put in the extra effort to really improve your fitness. Sometimes, we find ourselves spending at least an hour and a half in the gym trying to tone up those stubborn areas, or build up those muscles – not to mention warming up and down, showering and even travelling to and from the gym – and before we know it the morning’s gone.
How do we gain back this valuable time? Try High-Intensity Interval Training, otherwise known as HIIT: a fast paced, dynamic approach to training that provides you with desirable results in half the time of a regular workout. Coach, Jamie Benton explains that as current trends in the exercise industry steer towards shorter and more intensive classes, HIIT is the ideal resolution to a hectic schedule. David Lloyd has listened to the demands of its clientele, and has now introduced three varied classes that offer the criteria of a HIIT workout. The Les Mills Grit classes are split into three key areas, each of which are half an hour in length – so you can choose which workout is right for your body goals. The Grit
Strength uses a barbell, weight plate and body weight exercises to blast all major muscle groups, whilst the Grit Plyo introduces the use of a bench to improve agility and build a lean, athletic body, and the Grit Cardio utilises a variety of body weight exercises to improve cardiovascular fitness, increase speed and maximise calorie burn. Each class lasts 30 minutes, leaving you enough time to get to and from the gym on your lunchbreak – and maybe even fit in a protein shake to speed up the recovery process. You’ll also benefit from an enthusiastic instructor and upbeat music to keep you positive and motivated throughout the session. Retro Cocktail Bar is now open in Felixstowe New
New retro cocktail bar & lounge Copas is now open on Felixstowe seafront above Mannings Amusements
C
harles Manning and his team, have worked since April to prepare the space above Mannings Amusements ready for its new use.
20
It now has a real retro feel to it; with vintage furniture and Chesterfields, palm trees and scrubbed wooden floors. It has elements of Cuba and a speakeasy, Mr Manning said. “It has been hard work, but we wanted to get it right before we opened the bar & lounge,” he said.
Mannings had been run by Charles’ father and grandfather, both named Charles, before him. Some of the black and white photographs on the wall reflect his grandfather’s time in entertainment, with the Variety Club of Great Britain. “Grandfather is in those old photographs with some famous

people, from Roger Moore to Paul McCartney,” said Mr Mannings. “Initially he worked with Billy Butlin, then he took if forward himself.” In the early years of Mannings Amusements there were live animals on display as well as rides and games. These including a monkey island - and a lame lion that would be allowed out as a publicity stunt, he said. Charles and his younger brother, Johnny, a partner in Copas, runs the family business these days, on behalf of their mother Sarah. They are joined in the venture by businessmen Andrew Vales ex General Manager of the Orwell Hotel in Felixstowe & Daniel Henshaw a Felixstowe entrepreneur with links to the property & shipping trades locally. “It is still a family-run business,” explained Charles. “This is the right time to open the new bar. “Felixstowe has had a massive uplift. There is a lot of positive things happening here, like
the new pier and new housing developments planned, which will be good for the town. “Felixstowe is on the up and up. There is a buzz and a real positive vibe about the place.” The Copas theme was one that could be taken to venues elsewhere, he said, with the right team. “We have a very good strong team here, including manager Ollie Lomas and Joe Flynn. Joe previously worked in Cannes,” he added. “We are aiming for a more selective and socially conscious demographic of the market place. “There will be no loud music and DJS. We want to appeal to an older crowd, not trying to be all things to all people.”
Copas bar is now open from Wednesday through to Monday each week, and closed on Tuesdays.

The very same marketplace though can be bewildering, where doubt creeps, warning bells ring and whispers of “buyer beware” lurk in the corners of our minds. Portfolio of Fine Diamonds allows customers to browse the Thurlow Champness range in the comfort of their own home. Items can be reserved so that they can be viewed in store, removing the fear from making a big purchase. All of the diamonds are certified by the world’s best and most reputable independent laboratories, including the GIA. Quality is ingrained; all the pieces are either set in platinum or 18ct yellow gold. Last of all, but by no means least, is value for money; the range typically retails at up to 20-50% cheaper than some high street competitors. Trevor Salt, Managing Director of Thurlow Champness, says: “Our business is focused completely on our customers; they are at the heart of everything we do. We wouldn’t be here without them! If we have the opportunity to offer something that no one else can, that we truly believe is the best thing to happen in the retailing of diamonds, then we will grab it with both hands. Not only are the prices very competitive
but the range features the best quality diamonds in classic styles and contemporary settings – there is something there to suit everyone.” The concept appears to be a winning one – offering all the advantages of the Internet as well as the reassurance and knowledgeable service that one would expect from a local business that has been providing the very best in luxury goods for over 200 years.

he Aston Martin AM37S powerboat will be displayed at the 58th Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show on November 1-5, 2017 with Quintessence Yachts, again collaborating with Feadship, following a successful cooperation at the Monaco Yacht Show in September. After making its US debut at ‘Yachts Miami Beach’ earlier this year, Quintessence Yachts will display the new Aston Martin AM37S at the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show (FLIBS) last week. Finished in eyecatching Diavolo Red, paired with a Cream Truffle leather upholstery and contrast red stitching, this AM37S showcases the true bespoke nature of this truly tailor-made powerboat.
lifestyle The AM37 is the ultimate day boat and it was created to be completely customisable, so it is highly unlikely that any two boats will ever be the same. The boat is made up of 3,500 unique parts, designed, engineered and created specifically for the AM37. Handcrafted in the UK by Quintessence Yachts, the 37foot Aston Martin powerboats join the maritime and automotive worlds together with style and elegance. Combining the highest degree of technology and innovation, they perfectly merge design and engineering, with performance, comfort, luxury and functionality. The AM37 is available in two different versions: a ‘gran turismo’ leisure powerboat with a choice of twin 370 hp Mercury diesels or two 430 hp Mercury petrol engines, and a more extreme AM37S version with twin 520hp petrol engines by Mercury Racing, that can achieve the maximum speed of 50 knots. It is the AM37S that will be on display this week.
Among the unrivalled technologies featured onboard, FLIBS visitors will enjoy the unique carbon fibre sliding cockpit panels which can be remotely operated with a mobile app. Navigation, control monitor and entertainment system are integrated in the 15’ touchscreen in the dashboard, with advanced functions to control the electric anchor, retractable carbon fibre bimini and retractable swim platform. Each of these phenomenal day cruisers is manufactured using the latest in composite technologies and features many carbon fibre mouldings, including the upper deck. Known for its consistency the world over, the champagne is age for a minimum of three years in cellars, where it reaches the peak of aromatic maturity. THE OCCASION The elegance and lightness of this champagne gives it the flexibility to be consumed at any occasion; however, we recommend it as a welcome drink or as an apéritif with some delicious appetisers.
THE TASTE Pink in colour, this full nose is wonderfully expressive and fresh, giving off fragrances of freshly crushed wild raspberry, cherry and blackcurrant. On the palate, this wine strikes the balance between velvety and full-bodied. THE OCCASION The Prestige Rosé can be enjoyed at the beginning or end of an evening. We particularly recommend it as an accompaniment to a fruit dessert such as red berry tart or crumble.

PRESTIGE ROSÉ THE BLEND Another non-vintage, Taittinger’s Prestige Rosé comprises 15% still red wine produced from the best Pinot Noirs from Montagne de Reims and Les Riceys, as well as 30% Chardonnay to deliver elegance and delicacy.
THE BLEND A straight split of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, this vintage champagne was produced exclusively from the first pressing of an exceptional year’s harvest before being aged for several years in cellars. THE TASTE With a pale radiant colouring, the Vintage 2008 produces a

offers a palate of dominant peach flavours and light woody notes.
THE BLEND A ‘sec’ champagne (meaning that the blend includes between 17 and 32 grams of sugar per litre), the Nocturne is composed of 40% Chardonnay and 60% Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier. Blended from around 30 different vineyards from various vintages, this wine is aged for four years before disgorgement. THE BLEND A new release, this 2006 champagne has already been hailed as one of the best Comtes vintages ever. Made entirely from Chardonnays from the best vines in the prestigious Côte des Blancs, only the wine from the first press is labeled as Comtes de Champagne 2006. THE TASTE Having aged for almost 10 years, the flavour of this exceptional champagne is very smooth and creamy on the palate, with subtle hints of lemon, stone fruit and flint. It is fresh and fruity without being flamboyant. THE OCCASION The Comtes de Champagne 2006 should be reserved for the most joyous of occasions, from a celebratory drink between a newly engaged couple, to a toast at a diamond wedding anniversary. However, if you’re keen to get the most out of your investment, we recommend allowing the champagne to further improve over time in the bottle.

ince coat season is upon us, its time to brush up on the outerwear trends of AW17. The coat is the centrepiece of our winter wardrobe. It’s the item we all end up wearing the most throughout the season. Winter coats are the staple in any wardrobe, and this season we’ve been overwhelmed and spoilt with all fabulous styles we have on offer for AW17. With the weather as unpredictable as ever, no doubt coats and outerwear will be needed right up until next April, the winter coat is one of the hardest working pieces in your wardrobe. Which is why it’s not a

as well as being able to bring any ensemble together. Stay subtle with the shade of your coat and then add some welcome colour to your choices. It can often be the spend that takes the most out of our budgets, and so it should be!

Finally, your must-have winter coat could mean you get the best of both worlds. Colour, style, price, longevity and trendiness all compete for primacy but this season’s coats are as covetable as they are enduring. If you’re anything like me you’ll find buying the perfect coat daunting. With hundreds of styles out there and so many different occasions to need one for, it’s hard to know where to start. gourmet Christmas is a time when everybody seems to leave things to the last minute, the shops are packed the week before Christmas right up until Christmas eve, even with the rising popularity of internet shopping we all seem to be rushing around trying to get ready.

love making my own cranberry sauce at Christmas, it seems such a shame to go to all the effort of cooking a perfect turkey dinner to then pile on heaps of over sweetened shop bought cranberry sauce. Similarly so with bread sauce, I remember my mum used to add a sachet of powder to milk and hey presto bread sauce, which seems such
42
a shame as it was gloopy and unappealing, the truth was nobody liked it but we all suffered it with fear we wouldn’t be allowed dessert if we didn’t eat it all up! I believe cooking should be fun and simple, the cranberry sauce can be made in advance and stored in a fridge for 48 hours, whilst the bread sauce can be made early on during the day and kept warm, you can prevent a skin forming on the bread sauce by cling filming it, this will also keep it warm.
re-assured that all the hard work is done. I would always prepare my vegetables the night before, and simply re-heat them when the turkey is out and resting, for example, sprouts can be cooked, dusted with butter and chestnuts and roasted through the oven.
I would also have my potatoes cooked ready to roast, I bake them in their jackets for 1 hour at 200oc, allow them to cool slightly then peel the skin off, allowing them to cool in the fridge allows them to fluff up nicely giving you all the more crispy bits at the bottom of the pan that we all fight over!
In cooking preparation is key, you cannot entertain guests or cook for the family with no food in the fridge, I like to take the edge of the rush by preparing myself the night before, this allows time to enjoy a glass of mulled wine or bubbles with your family,
Cranberry Compote 1kg frozen cranberries Juice of 2 oranges Zest 1 orange 150g sugar Slowly bring to the boil and cook until pulpy.
Bread Sauce I like to leave chunky bits in the sauces, not only to prove their provenance but also to add some texture and excitement to the condiment, I mean I have cranberry sauce I want to see and taste some cranberries!

person at home looking after the children. You may assume the the main breadwinner is covered by their employment benefits, so there is no need to provide additional cover for the homemaker. However, this is definitely not the case as based on recent studies it is estimated that the average value of a parent is around the same as the national average salary, and this relates to all of the unpaid work they do, time they give up which obviously includes childcare. This is why we always urge families to consider how these important jobs would be replaced in order to keep the breadwinner at work and life as normal as possible, should the worst happen.

WELL APPOINTED VI CTORIAN GRANDURE
Coming to the market soon are 1 & 2 Cedar House, two beautiful Victorian houses, each offering over 4000 sq ft of luxury accommodation. Located close to Christchurch Park and Ipswich School, The Cedars, as it was originally named, was a Boarding School for young women that was built in 1863. Later In 1891 it was acquired by renowned Architect Brightwen Binyon, who converted the building into his own private residence. The James Francis team has sympathetically restored and extended the building using matching Suffolk
white brickwork. The interior has been transformed, refurbished and redesigned for modern day living. Features include grand staircases, original fireplaces, sub-levels, high ceilings, bespoke double glazed box sash windows, smart home technology and a walled garden. Both properties, at this stage, offer a completely free choice of kitchen and bathroom design, either designed and installed by award winning builder, James Francis Homes or by your favourite designer, all taken into account in the agreed purchase price.
