appy New Year! The festive season is now behind us and the first couple of months of the New Year is often a time for reflection and resolutions. In 2017 I’ve decided not to make any big resolutions as, let’s be honest, they usually get forgotten by the middle of February! Instead, I’ve decided to take up a mantra that I have as a print at home – ‘Enjoy the little things in life, for someday you will realise they were the big things.’ It reminds me that when life gets too stressful, or a deadline is approaching, to sit back and enjoy the little things, as often we let the small moments pass us by. ocal artist Laura BeardsellMoore grew up in a small village near Hadleigh and her childhood in the countryside has continued to influence her artwork to this day. Taking inspiration from the natural world, Laura blends figurative and abstract elements to create quirky and often colourful compositions. Flora, fauna, people or objects sit alongside echoes, patterns and shapes. The figurative elements can give the idea that there’s a story within her oil paintings and the abstract sections open things up to your own imagination. We chatted to Laura about her recent work and plans for 2017.

I grew up in Elmsett, near Hadleigh, so being out and about in the countryside and around the village was an important part of my childhood. From attempting to befriend the wild mice that lived in my ‘dens’ to rescuing abandoned birds, my childhood was full of adventure - with the natural world being really important.

My favourite period in the history of art is the fin-de-siècle, as the figurative art of the nineteenth century burgeoned into the wild abstract art of early modernism. That period has definitely influenced me, although I’ve tried to bring it up to date with contemporary references. I love artists like Gustav Klimt, Paul Klee, Mary Cassatt and Franz Marc, who all used shapes and patterns alongside figurative items.
I mostly paint in oils, although I have worked in acrylics and mixed media too (making use of everything from torn wallpaper to sand). I mainly prefer using oil paints because there’s just something so wonderful about the way that the paint moves and I really enjoy the textures and finishes you can create. I love using a palette knife to get extra texture too.

I have four paintings in the Winter Exhibition at the Frame Workshop and Gallery in St Nicholas Street in Ipswich, which runs until 28 January. I’m also taking part in a group show called ‘Ipswich Interpretations’ as part of the Freudian Sheep Artists exhibition at Kerseys Solicitors, which runs until June 2017. I’m also currently planning another solo show next summer at a secret location - so watch this space for more details!
I am often out and about walking with my husband Paul and our two dogs, so I spend a lot of time in the countryside. I sometimes sketch in the landscape, but I always have my camera with me! When I come to the final paintings I work from photographs for the more figurative elements. The abstract elements come from sketches and my imagination. Sometimes I’ll use technology like Photoshop

Storytelling is never too far from the surface of my work and I often use the motifs of fairy tales or myths or familiar countryside creatures. I like the idea that potential stories are present in my paintings - but there’s no right or wrong way to look at them. People can bring their own stories and ideas to the images. As the exhibition was taking place in a library, it seemed only fitting to give it a literary twist, with the title referencing Gerald Durrell’s book, My Family and Other Animals.

nspired by designer furniture, the iCandy MiChair is an innovative highchair that grows with your child as they develop. Transforming from a highchair into a nursery or rocking chair, the multi-use MiChair is a convenient, yet stylish item that can be used from birth when accompanied with the iCandy Pod and has been created to make every new stage of parenting that little bit easier.
23&%145678%6&9:;<6%=;7 The iCandy Pod simply docks on to the highchair to bring your baby up and away from the ground to parent height when feeding. The pod features a contemporary design and provides a comfortable and relaxing environment. The iCandy Pod folds flat for easy storage and comes with removable, machine washable liners for added comfort. The newborn pod means parent and baby are able to experience all-important eye-toeye contact, so critical in the first formative months. What’s more, the newborn pod can also be used as a rocker, perfect for when your baby is sleeping and parents wish to keep an eye on their newborn.
31>34351<%);7& When used in highchair mode, the MiChair looks like a contemporary piece of designer furniture. Complete with a quick release one touch buckle and the option of an additional comfort pack, the highchair has been created with modern family life in mind. The tray is simple but clever, offering hidden integral release paddles that are intuitive to use, making removal and handling easy. The hygienic tray is also dishwasher safe, making cleaning effortless.
23&%<;4?16>%4351< As the child develops, the iCandy MiChair can convert into a stylish children’s nursery chair or a rocking chair. The rocking chair and nursery chair can be used up until the age of six, whilst parents will always have the option of converting the MiChair back to a highchair should this be required at a later date.
23&%6@</&<8%4351<% The iCandy MiChair really does present the universal solution to all of your child’s seating needs, once a child no longer wishes to use the chair as a rocking chair, the skis can be detached and the chair evolves into a useful nursery chair. The iCandy MiChair has been designed to have an impact on each and every aspect of a child’s early life, complementing their development and helping teach a child about ownership and sentimentality. It is without doubt an impressive addition to iCandy’s portfolio of luxury products, and a welcome extension to the iCandy family. !"#$%&'MiChair from £250. !"#$%&'()*%+"(,-./-0$

ur Advertising Sales Executive, Kayleigh, and I were incredibly excited to try out the new Puzzle Room at the Suffolk Food Hall. Neither of us had tried one before, and weren’t sure exactly what to expect or if we’d be any good at the challenges that laid ahead of us, but we were ready to find out. Going through an old farm building at the back of the Suffolk Food Hall in Wherstead, we waited in front of a door to meet Steve Blake, the creator behind the Puzzle Room. Dressed in tweed, the scene was set as he announced that our team, consisting of us and two BBC crew members, had been caught poaching rabbits on the Wherstead Estate and the gamekeeper had locked us in the bothy until the police arrived from Ipswich in an hours time. We had 60 minutes to make our escape with the looming punishment of 12 months hard labour or transportation to the colonies hanging over our heads. The timer had begun and off we went into the room, searching for clues. I can’t give
too much away, as it will spoil it for those going, but let’s just say that, frustratingly, the first thing I searched held a vital clue that I didn’t discover until I went back frantically rummaging through it again 45 minutes later! A brilliant game that had been well thought out, the puzzles were a mix of logic tests, mathematical equations and pure searching for clues. As the Suffolk Food Hall says, it’s fun for ages 9-90, as everyone can get involved, and you can book in groups of two to eight, but we would say it’s probably easier with a larger group, as each person can be working on cracking a different clue. With the clock counting down in our ears, we completed the puzzle and escaped the room into the fresh country air, only for the gamekeeper to be waiting on the other side to tell us that we had finished at 61 minutes – we were a minute over! Our team was gutted, we could pinpoint some moments where we went wrong, and I couldn’t help thinking that if I’d found that clue when I first looked, we would have broken out in record time! !"##$%&#$$'()%%*+$*"&,-"..%/01$$2

hilippa Hayward was looking for something to re-inspire herself when she came up with the idea for her business, Aabelard Aprons. After going on a leather-making course to learn how to cut and sew leather, Philippa had created some bags and fell in love with the process. She wanted to produce something that would be personal, but that she could use everyday – and then it came to her, an apron. ‘I have three boys and I think it’s vital that they have a positive and rounded view of women,’ explained Philippa, ‘I wanted them to see me being more than ‘just their mum,’ but if I could set up a business from an idea in my head and make it work, from concept, through to design, manufacture, marketing and sales – how great would that be?’ Instantly knowing how she wanted the aprons to look and feel, her design grew out of the need to make something durable and useful. ‘Aprons work hard. You cook in them, clean in them, carry things in the pockets, garden in them; I did silversmithing and jewellery making in mine,’ said Philippa, ‘They need to wrap around you, protect you and quite frankly, I’d never really found an apron that was properly up to the job, and that affected my design choices.’

With a love of clothes herself; she didn’t want to cover them up with something that wasn’t on par. Philippa’s unique design aims to frame the upper body and face and with two different styles available in two sizes to suit narrower and not-so narrow people. Choosing Scottish Waxed Cotton for her aprons due to its robust nature and movability, Philippa explained that when the fabric heats up with your body temperature, it begins to mould to your shape. ‘It also has waterproof properties without being stiff,’ Philippa continued, ‘You can throw anything at it and it will take it. The producer I work with is one of the world’s leading suppliers and has years of tradition and heritage behind them which matches our brand perfectly. ‘I chose Italian leather for the breastplate and straps of the apron because I think it’s the best. The breastplate is one of the key design features of the apron, and the suppleness of the leather is vital. It has to bend and move with you and be so comfortable you don’t even know you’re wearing it. The leather we use is so soft it’s almost like a fabric and will only look better in time.’ Phillippa’s aprons are made in a small, traditional leather-making factory in Grantham, Lincolnshire that specialises in producing luxury and bespoke bags and luggage.
Since beginning her company, Philippa has found that a whole range of businesses and customers have fallen for her products. From tattoo artists, to artisan craft-makers and home-bakers, her aprons make a gorgeous gift that can even be personalised with initials or embossed with a logo for commercial use. We chatted to a few of her fans…

t’s finally here. The big day. The day that has taken up every spare waking minute (and sometimes ones when you are asleep) for the last couple of years. It’s the day that you and your partner have saved vigorously for. The carefully selected guest list has been agonised over - where do you seat people, what about the theme? The dress? Decorations? Cake? The list goes on. It’s not uncommon for a bride to be to have nightmares and wake up in a fluster of panic leading up to the big day. Dressing the venue not as you expected, seating the wrong guests next to each other and choosing the wrong music can have a crucial impact on the day - there is nothing worse than sitting in a large room where there is no atmosphere or ambiance. Every bride wants their big day to go without a hitch. Going back to basics and working with our five senses can bring structure and ambience to your big day.
C<.==
How often have you walked into a venue and immediately been put off by the smell? Smell is a chemical sense. We have hundreds of olfactory receptors - each of which, binds to a particular molecular feature. The receptors send messages to the brain, which is then received and makes up what we perceive as the molecules smell. House of Hud can scent your event with unique smells from cut grass, to Petrichor (the earthy scent produced when rain falls on dry soil) to elegant scents of fig and cassis and Royal Oud for a sensual scent. There are hundreds of different scents that will reflect the tone and ambiance and link the memories of your big day to that particular smell. Start by choosing the theme of your day, then look at what is naturally around in the tent/ venue and choose items and scents that will enhance what is already there.

The visual impact of your venue will be the first impression that people will have and will set the tone for the day. Choose the best venue possible within your budget - but don’t over extend as even the most basic of venues can be dressed to be beautiful and opulent. And any venue, whether it’s a hotel, marquee in the garden or a community centre can be made to feel a much grander place just by adding some simple accessories, beautiful fresh flowers, sparkling table decorations and twinkling fairy lights.

As the largest organ in our body our sense of touch acts when the nerve endings in the skin and in other parts of the body send information to the brain. There are four kinds of touch sensations that can be identified: cold, heat, contact, and pain. When considering your big day, make sure that the temperature is not too cold or too hot. Consider air conditioning units (nothing is worse than being seated in the path of a unit that is blasting out cold air).
3.)&
Every wedding needs to have some kind of background music - there is nothing worse than sitting in a venue that is full of people talking and sounding like a large dining hall. Background music will soften the mood and lift the spirits. People become animated and when everyone is busy eating, the music will come to the forefront of the atmosphere. Choosing the appropriate music is also key. Make sure that you choose something that people can still hear themselves think over also nothing too upbeat or loud (at the same time, you don’t want to send people to sleep!). Stay away from music that is personal to you - just because you like it - background music needs to help people feel relaxed and at ease so they enjoy just being there.

What tastes good to one, could be the next person’s worst nightmare. Flavour depends on odour, texture and temperature. We have five basic tastes: sweet, bitter, sour, salty and umami. When choosing your catering - take into consideration how you want your guests to feel.
Consider natural ventilation. The fabric that are used in the marquees - The Arabian Tent Company’s interiors are all made of cotton, as there is something about the feeling of cotton that can’t compare to polyester, and think about tactile fabrics such as velvet for the sofa covering and cushions. The chair coverings, table coverings and fabrics to dress the venue will all impact on how your guests interact and relax.
In general, unless you are having a themed or cultural wedding, avoid lots of high spiced or fatty foods. Clean simple tastes will have a more elegant impact. A good venue or caterer will be able advice on menu choices. Consider that when catering for high numbers, there are certain types of dishes that will be more accessible. In principle, using fresh, organic and locally sourced produce should stand you in good stead
Now that we’ve considered and catered for the five key senses, all that is left to do is enjoy your day! !"#$%&'()'*$!#*+$,-./'*0 provides luxury tents and marquees for weddings and parties. !"!#$!%&'%&()*+,

" " " " o ask a class of 10 year old children what they think about Brexit or Donald Trump is to unleash a frenzy of opinion, debate, argument and comment such as you could not possibly imagine. Think Prime Minister’s Questions, only much, much worse! Children are fascinated by the world into which they are growing and often quite perplexed by the way in which ‘grown ups’ conduct themselves and by many of the decisions they make. In the age of seemingly limitless access to unregulated information, it is small wonder that children struggle to make much sense of the world around them. For many schools, Global Awareness has now become a vital part of the core curriculum, employing as it does important skills of discernment, creative thinking, collaboration
and communication in the understanding of global issues. Through it, pupils are able to explore issues that have traditionally been absent from the curriculum and are encouraged to consider how we know what we know by looking at sources, statistics and stories, as well as considering their own personal values and identities. Such opportunities are a far cry from the educational framework of just a generation ago. The world of work, including global awareness, and the school curriculum are now inextricably linked in terms of giving pupils the necessary tools to really make the best of the opportunities they will face in a few short years’ time. This now strong and important connection, is giving all curriculum subjects licence to explore new areas of understanding, application and context. The skill of oracy for example, the ability to express oneself fluently and accurately, has never been more essential in modern global business communications and
schools can begin to develop this skill from the very early years building up confidence and self-assuredness along the way. The ‘try three before me’ teaching technique is another good example of how modern teaching can help children to develop skills of cooperation and collaboration that one would find in the workplace. If you have a problem, don’t go straight to the boss for an answer, try to find three ways of solving it first. If you still can’t solve it, then you can legitimately ask for help! The world will always throw up unexpected, unpredictable, bewildering scenarios with which we have to cope and manage. That we know this to be the case, should give us all the clues we need in terms of helping children build a strong platform on which to build their futures. !""#$%&#'()*+"",-"%'-./

Ladies, opt for long boots with chunky soles or stylish casual trainers to see you through to the Spring months. Men, Chelsea boots and brogues continue to be on trend, as do Oxford shoes and loafers. All of these can be worn in both casual, work and formal situations.

ver the last few seasons we have seen an increase in 80’s fashion trends making an appearance once more on the catwalk, and at EAUX we are here to tell you that we will be seeing even more of it in 2017. Now is the time you should start stocking up on those trends ready for the New Year.
#$%&''()"#&%$*(&' Metallic skirts and off the shoulder shimmery tops are already coming back into everyday
fashion. In the 80’s you would see mostly gold and silver metallics, but going into 2017 we expect to see a range of different metallic colours. The best way to rock this trend is to wear it with a plain top or a completely different material so that the metallic clothing stands out and doesn’t become overbearing.
+,!-'.$*"/&.+ This is a trend that is slowly becoming popular and we expect to see an increase in this as 2017 rolls on. 80’s fashion icons including Princess Diana and Joan Collins often wore shoulder pads but now they are making a re-appearance especially during the Fall fashion week.

" " " " """"s many of our readers already know, our Fashion Editor, Pam Davis, offers a Personal Styling service as part of her business, Fashion Candy Style. To get the team ready for the New Year and out of the post-festive blues, Pam took two of them shopping for some new outfits at Cake & Catwalk in Ipswich. Styling EAUX’s Editor, Georgia Watson and Editorial Assistant, Emily Cotton, Pam worked her magic to get the pair into clothes they hadn’t considered before and to help them get out of their office rut of wearing black and neutral clothing. Starting the styling session with a consultation, Pam discussed the pair’s current wardrobes, the colours they liked wearing, their day-to-day routines and lifestyle choices to help develop a plan of what they’d need to shop for. ‘After the personal consultations with Georgia and Emily I was armed and ready with all the information that I needed to style them,’ explained Pam, ‘Both ladies have similar statistics, both being petite with dark hair and eyes, but they have individual styles.’ As an incredibly active gym-goer, you’ll often find Emily in her gym kit. During office hours she sticks to the classic colours of black, grey, white, with accents of khaki and mustard. She prefers to wear separates, and is rarely seen in a dress. Georgia also has a collection of black, grey and beige outfits she uses as an easy office capsule wardrobe, to make the early mornings simpler. ‘With that in mind, and the fact that both Emily and Georgia could do with a little more

colour in their wardrobes, I chose the perfect boutique that would fit into the look that I wanted to achieve for them, Cake & Catwalk,’ continued Pam. ‘Situated on St Peter’s Street in Ipswich, Cake & Catwalk is one of my favourite regular shopping haunts. Boutique owner Lynn Turner, who I’ve known and had the pleasure of working with for years, was there waiting to guide us through her wonderful collections.’ Let’s see how they got on…
#$%&'()"*#)+'&# Kindly assisted by Lynn from Cake & Catwalk, I was up first to be dressed by Pam. She picked out a gorgeous cowl neck dress in a mustard colour, one of my favourite shades, however,
I very rarely wear a dress. At first I was a little uncomfortable, but as soon as I put on the long black fringed cardigan that Pam had chosen, I felt more like myself. I could definitely wear this to a business meeting and then dress it up with heels and a clutch bag for an evening out with friends. The next outfit included a black, fringed wrap around skirt that was perfect to suit the rock-chic style that I like. Ideal for the warmer months, or paired with tights for the winter, Pam styled it up with a grey and black spotted sweater with sheer sleeves that made the look incredibly versatile. Also trying the skirt on with a ribbed black jumper, silver pendant necklace and yellow scarf, the outfit became a smarter look for the office.

,#-*,%!()"*#)+'&# Pam immediately spotted a bright coral jumper with a roll neck and long sleeves for me. Initially I wasn’t sure whether the colour would wash out my pale complexion, but as soon as I tried it on, I realised how right Pam was and instantly fell in love with the jumper! Having always steered clear of oranges and yellows in the past, fearing it would make me look even paler, the colour actually did the opposite and paired with black jeans and a long pendant, this was an outfit I could imagine wearing in all walks of my life.
Next up was a style I’d seen and admired on the Suffolk Fashion Show catwalk. A navy blue shirt with red collar, paired with a red 60’s mini skirt with a zip up the middle, I loved this fun, but still smart look. The last outfit was something I would never have picked out for myself, but once I tried it on I liked the boho look. A pale, pink blouse with a pink and black patterned mini-skirt, the outfit was completed by a faux suede and leather sleeveless jacked with fringing detail. I would definitely wear the skirt and jacket with a different top for the office and save this blouse for a summer festival or holiday.
‘Throughout the session both ladies tried on three outfits each in three different styles,’ concluded Pam, ‘Each of the styles were a fusion of smart workwear that could also be worn as casual outfits, adding a dash of colour to their wardrobes.’ ‘Overall the shopping session taught both Georgia and Emily that you can step out of your comfort zone and invest in individual pieces that will create a versatile wardrobe.’ After an afternoon of shopping, the team returned to the EAUX office with smiles on their faces having discovered some new colours and shapes that they would be able to blend into their wardrobes in 2017. A chic hair cut that seems to work on everyone, ‘The Lob’ or classic bob, will be one of 2017’s hottest hair trends. Whether you want to opt to keep your hair long or go for a shorter, edgier bob, both styles will be on trend for this year. ‘The Lob’ looks great on every age group, as it’s easy to maintain, stylish and elegant. Micro Needle Therapy (MNT), known as Collagen Induction Therapy in the cosmetic medical industry, is a method to help combat signs of aging, acne scarring and uneven skin on the face and body. The handheld medical roller is a tool with a rotating head which has up to 200 micro needles. As each tiny needle penetrates the skin, the body brings in its own healing mechanisms to repair it and this is done by producing new collagen. It is vital that your skin is thoroughly cleaned; this procedure needs to be carried out under sterile conditions. A topical anaesthetic cream or gel must be applied before the medical roller is used. Be aware, that in some cases there are side effects and you need to have that discussion with your practitioner before going ahead
requires little maintenance, which is ideal for those who are short on time. Your stylist will softly blend your roots into your hair which is a way to both enhance your colour whilst also making re-growth less noticeable; it’s a win-win! !"#$%&'%()*+%,")*- Fore Street, Ipswich, Suffolk, IP4 1JW. with the treatment. It is also important to add that there is a shedding of dead skin cells following the treatment and it usually takes up to 3 weeks until the appearance of the skin is completely smooth again. As the procedure is only a collagen induction therapy, it can’t target muscle toning which is required if you want to address sagging skin. Alternatively, if you wanted to undertake a different facial rejuvenation treatment which can also address sagging skin, why not try our Niroshini Cosmetic Acupuncture Ritual. The Ritual is a completely natural alternative to Botox and cosmetic surgery, addressing multiple health and beauty concerns. Focusing on holistic wellbeing, the treatment combines facial and cosmetic acupuncture along with specialised lymphatic drainage, working together to create ‘rejuvenation from the inside out’ that can help reduce the signs of sagging skin, fine lines, wrinkles, dry skin and acne. " " " " his time of year is often when we try to make up for over-indulgence at Christmas and set our New Year’s resolutions for health and fitness. Fast-forward to February and those resolutions are long gone! My advice to patients when they ask me how they can set a healthy resolution, is to actually not have one! These resolutions, though meant to improve our wellbeing, just add to our stress and workloads. They’re usually based on giving something up, increasing the pressure on our time and energy, thus draping them in negativity. Almost every patient I see these days is stressed in some aspect of their life and feeling the physical and mental effects. It is natural that we experience stress from certain situations and small amounts for short periods of time are actually healthy. However, when we live in a constant state of stress, we can
40
end up with lots of health problems such as weight gain, insomnia, headaches, digestive problems, mood changes, food cravings, high blood pressure, depression, anxiety and more. The best thing you can do for yourself this New Year is to adopt a mantra in your own words that equates to ‘I will be more kind to myself’. Write this on a piece of paper and put it somewhere you will see it every day, like on your mirror, your desk or your fridge. For every person, being kind to yourself means something different, but usually it’s way down on the list of priorities. The best place to start is to make a cup of tea, sit down somewhere quiet and comfortable and then put pen to paper. Make an assessment of your life and any current commitments, including work life, relationships, friendships, current health regimes such as the gym/fitness classes and any diets. For each area, write down from 0-10 how stressed you feel about it, with zero being totally Zen and ten being wanting to hide under your duvet until it goes away! Take a deep breath and then list out under each area
all the small ways that you can reduce that number closer to the zero mark. The aim is to find lots of little ways to gradually reduce the stresses in your life and introduce long-term healthy habits. You can repeat this exercise every month or so to identify any other ways to help and also to monitor progress, but remember to be kind to yourself and not be frustrated if progress is slower in an area than you expected. This is a longterm effort and there will be ups and downs, because that’s how life happens! In the area of work, you can assess how your working hours are affecting your life, the amount and type of duties you have, your income and your career progression. Say you have realised you’re doing more duties that you don’t enjoy, why not create a plan to meet with your boss and discuss ways you can alter
EAUX LUXURY LIFESTYLE MAGAZINE ≠ SUFFOLK EDITION ≠ WWW.EAUX.CO.UK
this to something you enjoy more- if you’re passionate about something, you will naturally work harder, so it’s a win-win. In the area of relationships, if you realise that you’re losing some of that ‘spark’, why not put a day a month in your diary to do something with your partner that you both enjoy. This could be something adventurous like taking a trip away or something simple like taking a walk together and then watching a feel-good film. In the area of health and fitness, you can take some really simple steps to drastically improve how you feel. The best tips for longterm improvement in health, therefore being achievable, are to: • Eat more green leafy vegetables. • Drink a few sips of water every time you’re hungry or thirsty (thirst is often confused by our brain as hunger).
• • •
Eat more healthy fats, such as nuts, seeds, oily fish and avocados. Reduce the amount of processed food and refined sugar you consume. Spend less time seated and walk more.
Booking a massage or session with an Osteopath once a month or two can help improve your physical health as well as manage any physical symptoms of stress. Good luck discovering the simple ways that
you can improve your health and wellbeing. Just remember to make it fun and focus on being kind to yourself! !"#$%&'() is an Osteopath and Naturopath practicing in South Norfolk. For more information and to follow her blog, visit !"#$%&'(")*#"+&*,-.$"./( or her call on 012345463789.

% % % % ver the winter months, your hair and scalp need a lot of love and care, probably more so than in the summer time. Winter hair can become extremely unruly when it’s exposed to cooler temperatures outside and then central heating indoors. This makes it dry and susceptible to breakages, as well as looking lifeless and resistant to styling, which is not ideal with Valentine’s Day up ahead. One of the main culprits of winter hair is the cold weather, as it causes your locks to lose moisture. Lack of moisture can result in a dry scalp, as the scalp will be producing less sebum, which may lead to dandruff and itchiness. I recommend a good, rich conditioning treatment or mask to revive the lustre of your hair and keep it looking healthy over the cold season. You may well be wearing a hat to keep yourself warm, however, the hat fibres rub against the hair to dull its appearance and produce static electricity to make your hair stand on end. Another cause of fly aways is the wind, which in my opinion is one of the most annoying things about winter. Depending on your hair, you can style it with a good wax, lotion or mousse before you leave the house to prevent the wind or a hat from ruining your look, or use a hair oil to retouch your locks when you reach your destination. !"#$%&'%()*+%,")*, Fore Street, Ipswich, Suffolk, IP4 1JW. fter three years studying Sport & Exercise Science at Canterbury Christ Church University, I joined David Lloyd in Ipswich as a Personal Trainer and I’ve now been with the club for just over 12 months. David Lloyd Clubs allows trainers every opportunity to better ourselves, and in turn this gives our clients every chance to achieve and succeed in their individual goals. Since joining the club I have delivered over 1000 personal training sessions and am working toward becoming a ‘Platinum’ Trainer – an internationally recognised qualification that can only be attained here at David Lloyd. I feel extremely fortunate to work for such a fantastic club and I have an amazing team around me that are always there for help and support.
()*+,-'./01,+23')0(2 This is my client Lucy and we’ve been training together for 12 months now. Since we began, she has lost over a stone in weight, increased her lean muscle and reduced her body fat in order to become the healthiest weight she has ever been. This means we are consistently setting new targets and goals for her.
me, she has got there in double quick time. The once shy and unassuming gym goer has since transformed into a confident, outgoing and bubbly individual, always up for the next challenge. ‘In November 2015 I decided that I was tired of feeling unfit and over weight and plucked up the courage to sign up for a Personal Training session at David Lloyd Gym,’ explains Lucy, ‘I was very nervous and almost didn’t go, however I’m so pleased that I found the courage because my first PT session with George McCallum actually changed my lifestyle and fitness completely.’ ‘From that first session, when I could only manage half an hour of easy exercise, I have since completed a half marathon and two 10k events. This is purely down to George’s professionalism and patience. He provided me with a personalised exercise programme to help me achieve milestones and at each session he always encouraged and supported
me throughout. This helped me to achieve goals that would not have been possible a year ago.’ Here at David Lloyd we have a personal trainer suited to meet the needs of all of your personal goals. To experience what it’s like to be a member, be sure to contact one of the friendly members of the reception staff and be entitled to a free hour of personal training test drives. " " " " here are five different skin types that you can have, and sometimes it is difficult to tell which are the best products for your particular group. Here at EAUX, we want to help guide you to the products and treatments best for your skin.
#$%&'(")*+# If you fit under this skin-type, then it is safe to say that you are very lucky indeed! Your skin is soft, rarely oily and has a smooth, even skin tone with good circulation. However, you still need to use the right products and treatments, because your skin is changing all the time.
46
Try a moisturising cream with vitamin E to encourage the natural production of collagen and to keep your skin glowing all year round. You’ll need products with a non-greasy formula, a moisturiser to prevent dry skin during the winter, and of course, a facial SPF in the summer to keep that even skin tone perfect. To keep your skin relaxed after the stressful Christmas period, head down to Image Salon in Ipswich for the ‘Together Unwind’ package that includes a full body Swedish massage and a customised facial. !"#$%&$'()*+,*-(./01/#$2(3456782(9:/#$( ;/<"*2(9=>+,0& !"#$%&#'()*+(*,-
),#)+!+-,")*+# Certain products can cause sensitive skin so it is important to try and find out what could be causing this. It can show up as redness, dry skin, itchiness or burning and can soon become quite frustrating when you can’t find a product that works. Acne can also be a cause of sensitive skin, as can rosacea and eczema. For some of these ailments you may need to see a doctor or pharmacist for advice, but some good tips for those with sensitive skin include avoiding products with alcohol, fragrances and mineral oils. If you want to have a treatment to give your skin a boost, then we would suggest visiting the SK Clinic + Spa situated in Bury St. Edmunds. The Rosacea Calming Facial is the treatment for you, specialised for sensitive

This skin type can cause parts of your skin to become cracked or inflamed and during the cold winter months it can become difficult to keep it moisturised and balanced. Dry skin makes lines and wrinkles more visible, and the constant change of going from warm buildings to the cold air outside only exacerbates the problem. Using a rich moisturiser at night, and one when you wake first thing in the morning is essential, and it might also be worth swapping your foundation for a BB cream or tinted moisturiser to avoid those cakey dry patches. If you want to have a deeply nourishing facial, try the SOS Rescue treatment at Bathsheba Spa in Woodbridge. You’ll leave looking radiant as the facial will tackle any fine lines, dull skin
and dry, dehydrated skin. ;I;(?$>0F$2(3BB2(E/%&>&$J/(;=/2( K""-J',-#$ 0#12&2%0#&3#*+(*,-
0$&1+#'!+$# Now this is a tricky skin-type as it’s difficult to know what products are best to use when specific areas show signs of different skintypes. Your skin could be a combination of the skin types shown above, so the best thing to do to prevent having to buy lots of products for each area of the skin, is to find one that does it all. Serum’s are often a great purchase as they can tighten pores, remove excess shine and provide balance for the skin. If this is your skin-type then the best treatment for you will be at the Suffolk Medical Clinic in Sudbury. They provide the Dermalogica Classic Care Facial that is tailored to your skin-type to target your individual skin concerns. If you want to really give your skin an overhaul, The Clean Sweep facial at Flawless Image Beauty in Ipswich provides an effective brush

" " " " he cover of Un-Earthed is plain and simple, a pale green and black with the ethos of the book stated for all to see. A book that ‘is a celebration of life and food, a fruitful collaboration of cooks and chefs, artisans and artists, farmers and fisherman’ in Suffolk, its pages are full of stunning imagery, local recipes and heart-warming stories of our counties people, food and businesses. As soon as I opened and leafed through its carefully curated pages, I knew this was a book that had been made with real passion. The photographs immediately grabbed me, the way they have captured the natural and raw aspects of Suffolk established the feeling that the creators of this book truly understand and respect the county that I have grown up in. Produced by Jess Brown, the organiser of the Aldeburgh Food & Drink Festival, and wonderfully written by Frances Hopewell-Smith

and Tessa Allingham, Un-Earthed ‘champions simple pleasures, open horizons, family and friends.’ Its photographer Keiko Oikawa, offers candid shots, images that are full of truth, yet have a nostalgic feel with some having a soft focus. Often the colours in the photos are dusky, creating a warm, autumnal feel to the book that makes you want to read it in front of an open fire and a hot chocolate, just like the one featured from the Pump Street Bakery. This brings me on to the recipes. Featuring 18 from local restaurants, food producers and chefs, they are a mix of company secret blends, like the aforementioned hot chocolate, and recipes that use regional ingredients to produce dishes that are family, and customer, favourites.

On the next page is David’s simple, yet delicious sounding recipe entitled ‘Hunt duck – shoot duck – pluck duck – eat duck.’ The ideal Sunday brunch dish, he recommends cooking the duck in a little butter and rapeseed oil and serving with mushrooms on a chunky slice of bread…mouth-watering! Un-Earthed is a book not just for food lovers, but also for those who adore Suffolk, its traditions and way of life. Make the pasta dough by combining the flour, semolina and salt. Add the eggs until it forms a dough. Turn out onto a clean surface and work it until smooth. Divide the dough into four, wrap in cling film and leave in the fridge for 30 minutes. To make the reduction for the hollandaise, in a saucepan add the wine, vinegar, lemon juice and reduce until there is just 2 tablespoons left. Take off the heat and leave to one side.

Take the pasta dough and roll out as thin as possible, preferably with a pasta machine. Brush the pasta dough with a little water. Carefully place a yolk onto the rolled out dough and then gently lay another thin piece of dough over the yolk. Lightly press and ease any air pockets out until it is sealed. Trim up your ravioli. Place on a tray covered with a dusting of semolina and repeat the process so that you have one ravioli per person. Boil a large saucepan of lightly salted water and reduce to a simmer. In a heatproof bowl, use a whisk to beat 3 large egg yolks together with the two tablespoons of reduction over the pan of simmering water. Beat until the mixture starts to thicken, but it must not become too hot as it may curdle. Slowly drizzle in the warmed clarified butter into the egg mixture whilst whisking until the butter is incorporated. Adjust the seasoning. Pour into a bowl, cover and keep in a warm place. Bring back to the boil and throw in the trimmed asparagus. Cook until just done, place on your plates and then quickly add your ravioli to the same pot. This will take seconds to cook! Place the ravioli on top of the asparagus and spoon a generous amount of hollandaise over each ravioli.

Add the milk, roughly chopped onion, bay leaf, peppercorns to a pan and leave to infuse over a low heat. Preheat the oven to 180˚c. Place the fish in a greased ovenproof dish. Add the flour and cook for 2 minutes, gradually adding the remaining 500ml infused milk until you have a smooth sauce. Season to taste and add the grated cheddar. Place a layer of spinach and onion mixture into an ovenproof dish. Sprinkle half of the flaked fish over the top, then a layer of the potatoes and then half of the cheese sauce. Repeat layering with the fish, potato and cheese sauce, then sprinkle over the topping. Cook for about 25-30 minutes and until golden on top.

n the last issue we were lucky enough to review the tempting monthly Tasting Menu at The Queen at Brandeston. Seriously impressed by the skill and passion that was put into every dish, we decided to return to discover what Head Chef and Patron, Alexander Aitchison, has in store for the New Year and Valentine’s Day. Running The Queen is definitely a family affair with two of Alexander’s sisters, Harriet and Francesca, working alongside him. Alexander’s love of food began when his youngest sister was born and his mother handed over the family cooking to him. Shortly after, he started work in a pub belonging to a family friend and he learnt the ropes spending as many hours as possible working as a waiter or running the bar. He knew that in order to succeed in the restaurant business he needed a wealth of experience before starting up on his own and his CV reads like a page from a restaurant guide. He has spent time working in Gordon Ramsay’s ‘Maze’, ‘Pearl’ and ‘Pied a Tierre’ in London. He then moved to Edinburgh and honed his skills with creative and dynamic restaurateurs, the Radford Family at their restaurant, Atrium (holders of the first Michelin Star in Scotland) and later at the award winning ‘Timberyard’.
Alexander now draws his inspiration from the variety of restaurants he has worked in, ranging from the rustic to the innovative. A particular culinary influence has been Nordic and Scottish techniques such as salting, smoking, pickling and fermenting.
As we well know, his unique Tasting Menus are gaining real momentum in the county. For a delectable Valentine’s date, booking a table to experience the theatre of six exquisite courses, expertly paired with delicious wines, will make for a night to remember. Alexander decides on the menu the morning of the Tasting Menu Evening and each course is based on the very freshest of local produce, some of which (during the warmer months) will come from the Queen’s own kitchen garden created by Alexander shortly after taking over the pub. The delightful and innovative food is not all that is different at The Queen. When Alexander and Harriet decided that they also wanted this destination pub to offer accommodation, they decided to create a glamping meadow next to the Kitchen Garden complete with three beautiful Shepherds Huts (with a four berth hut about to arrive). Don’t be put off by the time of the year – one even has underfloor heating and all are warm, cosy and very romantic for a Valentine’s treat. Think Nordic Hygge! All boast ‘Queen’ sized beds, luxurious Egyptian cotton bedding and fluffy towels…And then the next morning you can sample the delights of Alexander’s delicious breakfasts. We think you’ll be earning double brownie points for that date night!

" " " " riving through winding country roads on my way to North Norfolk, the big winter skies revealing a stunning sunset, I couldn’t help but wonder to myself why I didn’t make the journey to this part of East Anglia more regularly. Only a two-hour drive away, the sandy stretches of beaches and charming coastal towns offer a chance to escape from daily routines and breathe in the fresh sea air.

I was heading to The Chequers Inn, nestled in the little village of Thornham, just five miles from Hunstanton, for a night’s stay to relax and unwind. Stepping into the traditional bar area to check in, the room was decorated in a neutral colour palette with rustic wooden furniture and the original brick fireplace creating a welcoming atmosphere. Shown to my room for the night, I passed a comfy looking lounge area with another fireplace and big leather chairs. As I entered my room, the sound of the DAB radio greeted me and I instantly felt myself
Pouring myself a glass of the complimentary sloe gin and trying a homemade cookie, I read more about the rooms and the Inn itself. Offering four types of room (Small Good, Good, Better and Best), they each come with a digital radio that can connect to your Spotify account and a smart TV so you can continue watching your box set on Netflix. A cafetiere with Paddy & Scott’s coffee awaits you after a long journey and the amazing waterfall showers and deep baths are accompanied by ESPA goodies to bathe in. The 16th Century Inn has recently been taken over by the Agellus Hotels group, which also owns The Westleton Crown, Tuddenham Mill and a number of other properties. Fully renovated to be sympathetic to its long history as a country pub, but modernised for today’s tastes, The Chequers has retained a traditional, country feel but with the added mod cons that make everyday life easier and that bit more decadent.

Although tempted by the very popular tapas, especially the cider braised crispy pork belly, instead I thought I’d treat myself to options from the à la carte menu. As I waited for my starter of roasted sweetcorn and bacon velouté with a brie bon bon, a Christmas tree was delivered outside. Feeling warm and cosy by the fire, I tucked into this hearty dish that had an exquisite taste. The velouté was thick and rich in consistency, the crunch of the bon bon with the gooey melted cheese in the middle adding another dynamic to the dish and a depth of flavour. The lardons of bacon added smokiness and the homemade wholemeal chunk of bread was perfect for dipping. This is just the kind of dish you want after a long walk on the Norfolk coast. The Chequers is a haven for walkers as Thornham is right on the Norfolk Coast Path, a 62.5 mile route from Hunstanton to Sea Palling. Able to join the path at the top of the village, you’ll be able to walk across the marshes and look out to sea, before returning to the comfort of The Chequers and a delicious dinner awaiting. After freshening up, I headed down to dinner. A chilly December evening, I took a seat by the roaring fire in the pub restaurant and soon warmed up. The menu, devised by Head Chef Shayne Wood, is diverse and unique. Presenting a choice between an à la carte menu, a Norfolk tapas selection or stonebaked pizzas, there is something for everyone’s tastes, and if you’re staying for a longer period of time I can guarantee you will never get tired of the varied menu!
With many tempting choices for my main course, I almost picked the venison burger, but was swayed by the popular grilled fillet of smoked haddock on chive mashed potato and served with wilted spinach, a poached duck egg and Parmesan cream sauce. Flaking away to melt in the mouth, the smoked flavour of the haddock perfectly accompanied the Parmesan cream sauce. The chive mash
was something I hadn’t tried before and worked incredibly well with the fish, the buttery taste adding richness to the dish. A Parmesan crisp sat atop the haddock and the satisfying crunch and tang of the cheese brought out the flavour of the sauce. Returning to my room to enjoy a good night’s sleep in the super comfy bed, I awoke refreshed for breakfast. Able to pick from the baker’s basket of warm fresh pastries, juice, porridge and muesli, I treated myself to a croissant and jam. I’m not a big breakfast person, so I was content with toast and pastries, but the cooked breakfasts coming out of the kitchen for the other guests smelt divine. Offering a classic full English, or the option for kippers, haddock and three different types of eggs, the choice is yours! Saying a fond farewell to The Chequers, I felt fully rested, with plans to return when the weather became warmer to enjoy the local beaches of Holkham, Heacham and Hunstanton. Perfect for those wanting to explore North Norfolk in comfort and style, The Chequers is ideal for both a romantic stay or for a well-deserved New Year retreat after the busy festive period. !"#$%"#&'#()$*++ has half price breaks in January between Sunday-Thursday and 25% off rates Friday-Saturday. trip commonly featured on most bucket lists is a safari. Whether you’ve been inspired by friends’ travel stories or the big man David Attenborough himself, it’s not hard to be captured by the wilderness of Africa. But be warned, no matter how many times you’ve watched The Lion King, nothing can ever prepare you for the real thing. It doesn’t matter if you’re a wildlife enthusiast or a nature novice, the vast selection of safari holidays can be rather daunting for anyone. So I’ve rounded up a few of my favourite safari locations.
*%'+,-.Chobe National Park, famed for its huge herds of elephant and buffalo and large prides of lion, boasts some of the most luxurious accommodation in the country. The biggest draw to Chobe though, is its close proximity to Victoria Falls in Zimbabwe. For a reasonable fee, you can cross borders and take a day trip to visit one of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World.
'-./-.0Visitors to Tanzania are spoilt for safari choice with not one but three major wildlife areas: Serengeti National Park, Ruaha National Park and Selous Game Reserve. But with topnotch game viewing and an opportunity to see the awe-inspiring Ngorongoro Crater, the Serengeti is beyond compare. Safari-goers can witness all of the Big Five in one location, and sometimes even from your own camp bed.
12.3The most-well known African safari destination is the Maasai Mara, home to the annual wildebeest migration where 2 million wildebeest and other animals migrate from the Serengeti to the Maasai Mara in search for fresh grazing. The best time to visit is between July and October, but don’t expect an exclusive experience as the Mara is often swarmed with hundreds of safari vehicles carrying tourists eager to catch a glimpse of the action.
over the world travel to Uganda to spot one of these large beasts in their natural habitat, and they really are breathtaking up close. After gorilla trekking, take a hot air balloon ride over Murchison Falls National Park – the views are out of this world!
/-7*0For a truly unspoilt safari, the Lower Zambezi National Park in the south east of Zambia is the place for you. The park contains part of the Zambezi River allowing visitors to explore the area by canoe, fish for tigerfish or partake in water sports. This is a remote area with no mobile coverage, mains water or electricity – perfect for those who want to escape the dreaded work emails.
45-.6Uganda is now firmly on the map as a premier safari destination, mainly thanks to its population of gorillas. Animal lovers from all

# # # # was at my fattest ever on my wedding day and it was an eye-opener. I had hit 72 kilos without even realising it, which is a lot for a 5 foot 1 inch Asian woman! When I was working in the Middle East between 2009-2013, I always weighed around 51 to 54 kilos. I was guilty of yo-yo dieting, but at least I was able to keep my body looking fit. I have always struggled with my weight and health ever since I was a teenager and in University. I’ve never been the naturally skinny type, especially by the ‘Filipino body standard’, it was always hard work, but at least at this point I had managed to keep it under control. When I quit my job to start backpacking in May 2013, I only weighed 51 kilos, which was when I met my husband, Jonathan, but then I started to gain weight through eating a lot of street food and cheap carbs to save money on my daily backpacking budget.

We started travel blogging in October 2014 while we were totally broke in Peru. That’s when I really started to neglect my health; at the beginning I was working 14 to 19 hours per day building our travel blog. It was stressful and I was rarely getting enough sleep. Then when we started working with brands and companies, I was eating all the best food and a lot of buffet breakfasts! I was steadily gaining weight, maybe a kilo per month but it became faster when I hit the beginning of 2016 - up to 2 kilos per month and always getting sick. I always had the flu, cough, allergies and I was always out of breath! Well, life is full of tradeoffs and I had traded my health for ‘success’, but after seeing my photo on my wedding day, I decided that it was about time to get back in shape. I enrolled in a boot camp in Norfolk called No1 Boot Camp, for one month to kickstart my fitness, learn all the basic work out routines and be trained by military fitness trainers. The boot camp does not only target your physique, but it aims to improve your mental and spiritual health. They have passionate trainers, mentors, chefs and even photographers that will push camp goers to hit their individual goals. They will stick by your side until the very end.
The ambiance of No1 Boot Camp in Norfolk is definitely soothing and this makes losing weight easier. Even if the activities are extremely tiring, which they are, the relaxing view makes it worthwhile. As part of the boot camp you stay in a traditional country house to be totally immersed in the boot camp process. The rooms are cosy and comfortable and offer a simple, back to basics style of accommodation that creates a homely vibe, whilst ensuring your mind stays on the task - to get yourself healthy. At night, you can freely talk to other boot-campers and share your stories. Or if you want to have a relaxing massage to soothe your muscles, they certainly have the facility for that.
Whilst I was there I was able to shed some weight, drink loads of water and even start sleeping properly. I felt good about myself again and I’ve been able to implement what I learned from the training when I returned to real life too! First we will have decided which size boat is right for them, the 37, the 43 or would they be better waiting for the new 55ft to be ready. Then they decide engine specification, petrol or diesel, and then the size of engine they want. The other options over and above the very high standard specification they will decide upon are a generator, air conditioning, heating (many Scandinavian clients want heating) a sun bimini and anti-foul paint. They will also decide colours of the exterior of the boat; one colour or two-tone finish. Then it’s to the cockpit design and fabrics. In the interior we will discuss the general look and
feel that they want, whether that be modern or more classic, if they are looking for muted colours or something more dramatic. We also talk through the finishes; lacquered doors, wood finish, as well as fabric choices. Then we will look at audio visual requirements and the lighting effect, plus the galley fit out and if they want a cook top or just a microwave, an espresso machine, fridge, freezer and ice machine.
The new larger Hunton 55 will attract both existing and new clients to Hunton. The new 55ft will have two full cabins, sleeping at least four people both with their own bathrooms, as well as the usual galley & saloon. Families, friends etc will be able to go away and stay on board very comfortably. The interior design is of the highest quality both in terms of spatial layout, aesthetic styling, luxurious fabrics and cool features. 56(670,65Opting for a black and white theme for a child’s bedroom, especially whilst they’re young, will allow for a fashionable look but also one that is easily adaptable as they grow and decide upon their own favourite colours. Use rugs, cushions and decorative items to be accent colours as these can be quickly changed when a colour suddenly goes out of their favour.

!,./0*1 Bright colours are another great choice for children’s bedrooms, as the different tones will stimulate young minds. Lots of fun can be had with this trend with either clashing colours or a blend of complementary shades. Multi-coloured stripes and spots will be a popular pick for wallpaper this year.

()*+,Following on from the 2016 trend for using natural materials in the home, 2017 will see the continuation of this with textures such as wood and rattan, and natural fibres such as organic cotton, increasing in popularity. Botanical, floral and animal prints are also emerging trends that will look gorgeous in a child’s bedroom alongside wooden flooring and furniture.

2,.(*13432)**-,(1 Mixing different prints and patterns to create a unique style is a tricky thing to pull off at home. Again this trend adds a fun element to a child’s bedroom and you can achieve a cohesive look by choosing patterns with the same base colour, for example grey, and then choosing an accent colour, such as mustard yellow, and picking patterns that blend the two. Stars and moons will be en vogue in 2017, as will geometrics, stripes, chevrons and polka dots.

The seaside inspired the origins of this trend, but whether you opt for a costal theme in your child’s bedroom (or maybe even a pirate motif!) or use it as a base to blend with white or wooden furniture, it will be a modern update.

;.(*)/The trend for retro and vintage items in the home shows no sign of disappearing for 2017. If your interior aesthetic incorporates pre-loved pieces and antiques, this can easily be continued into a child’s bedroom with vintage toys adding charm and homeliness. ( ( ( ( espite a year of uncertainty, with a successful Brexit vote, the introduction of new housing legislation and Donald Trump’s successful bid to become President of the United States, the UK property market enjoyed an extremely positive year, and this has certainly been felt within the local area.
Anne officially opened a £3.1million affordable housing project in Bury St Edmunds, thanking the developers for their hard work and admiring the success of the project.
In fact, the East Anglia region is thriving in the aftermath of the Brexit vote, in terms of new property developments. 2016 has proven to be a big year, leading to a sense of excitement amongst those living and working in the region. With people’s lives getting ever busier, buyers are looking for properties with minimal work to be done, and with efficiency ensured, so new builds make sense in terms of people’s needs.
The ‘Winerack’ marks the latest development in the area. The developer of the project, John Howard, hopes to start work on the scheme to finish the skeletal building this month.
East Anglia has seen several projects underway to support the growth and development of new properties. Only a few days ago, Princess
An equally exciting opportunity is the impending development of the ‘Winerack’ project on the Ipswich Waterfront which is set to be ready within the next two years. The Ipswich Waterfront has become an increasingly popular hotspot for property developers and local businesses with new restaurants and retailers being introduced all the time.
2016 also saw the release of new green fields available for development in the North of Ipswich, as well as surrounding villages, such as Martlesham, providing new opportunities for local businesses and property developers. Whilst 2016 has proven to be an exciting year for new developments within the area, 2017 is set to continue the trend.
At Nicholas Estates, we have certainly enjoyed this new emphasis on property development, selling units in advance of project commencement, let alone completion. We are one of the most recognised estate agents in Ipswich and the surrounding area. With three branches, we pride ourselves on our knowledge of the local area, helping firsttime buyers, families and older buyers looking for a property to retire in. We have worked closely with developers throughout the year, providing new builds for buyers and landlords across the county, which has helped to ensure that demand from property developers has remained high. This trend looks set to continue into 2017 with interest in new builds high already. " " " " ocated in Hemel Hempstead, just 24 minutes from London Euston, The Beacon, created by Lumiere Developments, is set to become the world’s most sustainable residential tower. With 17 floors, The Beacon will save its residents up to £11,000 a year in living expenses due to its innovative energy conservation technologies. Featuring on-site renewable energy, the building will generate enough power to offer ‘Free Energy For Life’ to those living there. The Beacon has the highest density solar farm in the world (0.8mw on <0.5 acres), solar photovoltaic panels embedded into the solar balustrades at each level, triple glazing in all apartments and quadruple glazing for upper level apartments. It also benefits from Ground Source Heat Pumps to extract heat from the basement of the building and to heat the hot water systems.
84
Harvesting 100% of the rainwater collected at roof and balcony levels for toilet flushing and irrigation of the green planters on each external balcony and internal arboretum, everything that can be included has been carefully integrated into The Beacon. Comprising of 272 studio, one, two and three bedroom balconied apartments and luxury penthouses, prices will start from £217,950. The Beacon also offers residents an unmatched living experience, providing worldclass amenities and services that create a community and lifestyle that doesn’t currently exist anywhere else in the property market. Living spaces open on to private balconies through full height patio doors that create a light infused environment and the premium Skyline apartments on the 13th floor feature impressive terraces with winter gardens, hot tubs and electro-glass for added privacy. Kitchens in the block will come fully fitted and the residents will have access to the UK’s largest underground-automated robotic car park.
The ground floor of The Beacon will be the main hub for residents and will feature an internal arboretum alongside a café and bar area, water features, club lounge, cinema room and external patio space. The floor above will have a 2,120 sq. ft. gym with the latest equipment, whilst a communal roof sky garden will provide an outdoor residents ‘library’ decked area and observatory at the top of the building. As a result of The Beacon’s groundbreaking renewable technologies, the buyers will benefit from the knowledge that their way of living is not damaging the environment, as well as saving themselves huge amounts in bills. They will also have access to a fantastic style of modern living that is way ahead of the trends. ! "#$%$&'()*$+$,(-.$)"/'(/01

Responsive design is also incredibly important, nearly 40% of all online shopping is now carried out on a mobile device - that’s a big percentage to lose out on if your website does not work on mobiles.

Design is often a subjective thing, but whether you like the logo or not, if it doesn’t appeal to your audience then you’ll end up losing business.
Firstly, they should consider the company’s values and goals. I offer a personalised service at Kovic, and I would begin by getting to know the company inside out so I can create a brand that successfully engages with their potential customers. It’s also very important that they understand who their target customer is; where do they shop, eat, do as a hobby, so the company’s message will appeal to them. A quote that I like is; ‘Design is not art, design is a process of going from an existing condition to a preferred one.’ A good designer will solve the problems of the current branding by creating a successful brand that works for you, and this in turn will help you achieve your vision for the company. s we enter the New Y Year many of us look to the months ahead and start to plan our diaries. But one thing is for certain, no matter how thorough we are, or closely we plan, we all need to expect the unexpected. According to research by some of the UK’s leading insurers the occurrence of incidents resulting in insurance claims can almost be predicted by the calendar. It is well recognised that Christmas time is the peak season for burglaries but did you know that Valentine’s Day sees the instances of car theft rise? Obvious really when you think about all those couples heading out for a romantic evening, leaving their homes and cars unattended. You would think, therefore, when you hear about insurance premiums going up, that all these statistics and data would somehow help to reduce the cost of insurance. It is true that
the insurance industry is investing in science in order to assess when, and what, people claim for so that they can create new policies; after all, who would have thought a decade ago that the average UK household would have around 7 internet devices? However, the increasing cost of insurance can’t be laid entirely with insurers, but rather with the taxman. In his autumn statement the Chancellor announced an increase in insurance premium tax (IPT), seeing it rise from 10% of your premium to 12% starting in June this year. It is understandable that many people can feel resentful about paying for a service which, ultimately, you hope not to have to use, but the temptation to try and cut corners by opting for the cheapest insurance available is a dangerous one. Insurance is there to ensure that if you were to lose or damage an item that you could replace it, like for like. Whilst Granny’s ring may be irreplaceable in its sentimental value, Granny surely wouldn’t want you to be out of pocket if
something happened. Equally, damage to your home from fire, flood or water leaks can often be an area for contention, particularly when a claim needs to be settled fast to ensure your family have somewhere safe to live. Researching what a policy covers you for, and more importantly, what it does not, is critically important, and this is where a broker can take the stress away. Getting a professional to help you value your home and contents accurately can help to ensure that if you were to have to claim, you wouldn’t suffer the financial loss of undervaluing your items, which is a common tendency for people to do. Brokers work by offering a personalised service, rather than statistics alone. Contact Tim Mulley at !"#$%%&'()*+', for further advice, !"#$#%&&'()*+,%!!-./&0.1$+-$%2 or call 01206 838400. f 2016 was a struggle and you have decided enough is enough, then now is the time to find out where you stand. Blocks discusses what you’ll need to know if divorce is the final option. 1.
2.
‘Irreconcilable differences’ is not a ground for divorce in England and Wales.
3.
You don’t always have to go to Court. You can mediate and come to an agreement which could be much more cost effective and facilitate better relations in the future, particularly when there are children involved.
4.
Get any financial agreement written up into a properly drawn Order so you can look to ‘clean break’ your finances for the future.
5.
Be honest and give full financial disclosure or your spouse could reopen proceedings later.
6.
There is no rule that a couple should split 50:50. Where there are young children the primary carer may get more.
7.
98
There is only one ground for divorce - the marriage has broken down irretrievablythis can be proved by; adultery, unreasonable behaviour, desertion, 2 years separation (with consent) or 5 years separation.
There is no such thing as a ‘quickie’ divorce. There is a set procedure and at its quickest it will be 5-6 months.
8.
The fact that one of you has had an affair will not affect the financial outcome.
9.
The starting point for arrangements for children is that they should have a good loving relationship and to spend time with both parents. Shared care arrangements are now common.
10. Mediation is not marriage guidance counselling - it does not look to save the marriage but to help resolve differences and work together to find a solution especially if there are children. 11. If you have looked after a stepchild for years, then a court can award equal general rights as a natural parent and can award maintenance obligations to a non-natural parent. 12. Legal Aid is no longer available for most family law matters but there is an exemption for victims of domestic violence. 13. Legal Aid may be available for mediation and receiving benefits may entitle you to some reductions on court fees. 14. There is no such thing as a common law spouse. 15. Co-habitants are not entitled to spousal maintenance, cash lump sums or a share of pensions and there is no automatic right to property. Let’s hope you don’t need any of the above, but for more information on these and other children and family matters contact Demelza Butler who will be able to help, email, dcb@ blockslegal.co.uk or call 01473 343925.
