Modern Day Mickey The release of these 19 short animated movies is the latest in a line of projects designed to keep Mickey hip for modern times.
Early reviews of the first short have been mixed, but it's fantastic that today's kids will get to know classic Mickey, instead of just the kind of bland Mickey they see on Mickey Mouse Clubhouse. 5

ANIMATED CHATTER LOOK AHEAD
High speed snail
E
So. Snails. We love it when animated movies feature leading characters you wouldn’t normally expect, and they don’t get much more unexpected than a snail who is so fast he is allowed to race at the Indy 500. We’re pretty sure the new Dreamworks movie Turbo is going to follow the genre conventions normally associated with underdog movies pretty closely, but the idea behind Turbo is fun enough to keep it on our radar.

The Slow and the Furious Turbo becomes involved with a snail racing league that is modeled on The Fast and the Furious movies.
The snails have been pimped out completely. The only thing most of them lack is... speed.

CONCEPT ART PRE ANIMATION ART
DISNEY'S FROZEN Designing characters for a well known story like The Snow Princess is no easy feat. Everybody who has read the story will have created an image of the characters in their own head. So you don't have to just create a look for the character, you have to realize that people will compare your design with their own interpretation. It’s no surprise that many different designs get created, and that it can take a long time before it’s decided what the final look will be. This process takes even longer when, in the case of Frozen, Disney’s take on The Snow Princess, the movie has been shelved a couple of times.
2 16
concept art But now that the movie has a release date and the first stills and concept art have been released, there is no way back. And so, we now have an Ice Princess who seems iconic enough to take her place in animation history. On these pages you can see a few different designs of the princess, as well as several other characters from the movie, which is going to be released at the end of this year. A new addition to Disney's large roster of princess movies.

The Monstrous Sequel At first, it doesn’t seem an obvious choice to make a sequel to Monsters Inc. The original movie is much loved (and a personal favorite), and getting the chance to see characters like Mike and Sully again is great, but it’s just that Monsters Inc. was such a perfect, complete story that a sequel seems unneccasry. However, Pixar came up with a story that is original enough in it’s own right to make us more than a little bit curious for what’s next. 18

monsters university The Art of Modeling For a movie the size of Monsters University, a ton of concept art and models are created, so the animators can all stick to the same style and the main characters in a movie don't differ too much. Subtle changes were made to the designs of all characters who featured in the original movie, to make them look younger. For Mike, this meant braces on his teeth, while Sully sports a hairstyle that is a little younger.

monsters university The Art of Poster Making The times when a movie just had a single poster to promote it are far behind us. When you take a huge movie like Monsters University, there are dozens of posters that are created. Teaser posters, regular posters, character posters, international posters, the list goes on and on. Poster collectors could probably fill a wall in their bedroom with all the different one sheets Disney and Pixar have churned out for their next picture.

A Monster in Paris The Art of Modeling a famous city The city of Paris is a character in it's own right in this movie. Of course we have seen Paris before in animated movies, like in Pixar's Ratatouille for instance, but never before has the French city seemed to be this alive. Even with their smaller budget, director Bergeron and his team have made Paris into a real character. Tons of concept art have gone into this process, and it's testament to the creativity of the animators that the portrayal of Paris is this successful.
