I
t was a year unlike any other for the Class of 2021, navigating their senior year during a pandemic. With grace and resilience, the Class of 2021 was able to celebrate cherished Magnificat milestone events.
On April 24, the Class of 2021 and their guests cut loose at a “Purple Rain”-themed Prom, which was a nod to the seniors’ class color, purple, and the location, the Rainforest at the Cleveland Metroparks Zoo.
For their outstanding performance during Night-In-Blue season, the seniors won the coveted Sentimental Sleepover and Film Festival, which was held on the evening of May 18. Glow-in-the dark frisbee games broke out on Karnatz Family Field, and seniors got to leave their mark on Magnificat with a mural in the Marian Commons. The highlight of the Sentimental Sleepover is always “Light up the night,” when the seniors go outside with sparklers and sing the Alma Mater. Blessed with beautiful weather on Monday, May 24, the members of the Class of 2021 were honored at Magnificat’s 63rd Baccalaureate Mass and Commencement. Graduates and four guests assembled on Karnatz Family Field to celebrate the seniors’ outstanding achievements and wish them well. During Baccalaureate Mass, the Class of 2021 received their fourth and final pendant, which serves as a reminder to the graduates of their call to live Mary’s Magnificat in the world. Class speaker Clare Chambers ’21 reminisced with her classmates about the last four years and expressed gratitude to the Magnificat faculty and staff. “Thank you for pushing us to become the best students that you knew we could be,” she said. “Thank you for empowering us to believe that we are able to be anything we want in life. And thank you for teaching us beyond the classroom and leaving us with life skills that will forever shape us.” Also during Commencement, Magnificat recognized the recipients of the school’s highest awards. Maya Daw ’21 was named Phi Beta Kappa. Catherine Galla ’21 received the Sister Mary Pat Cook, HM Leadership Award. Lana Haddad ’21 received the Nancy Powell Service Award. Shekinah Crawford ’21 received the Sister Bernadette Vetter, HM Award.
