A message from our founders We want to give you the warmest welcome to Magnolia Design Co. Congratulations on starting your own DIY business. You are about to embark on a wonderful adventure. We started Magnolia Design Co to bring the love back to crafting, giving you the flexibility to create your heart’s desire, with a duplicatable business model to support your growth. We are here to support you throughout your journey, working closely with you and your Sponsor to share resources, best practices and knowledge to expand your creativity and achieve your personal goals. This start-up guide contains information that will help you get your Magnolia Design business off to a successful start. There are many ways to share your new business; Demonstrate crafts online and invite viewers to shop supplies on your personal website, host connect & craft classes, create and sell finished products or retail supplies at an event, craft mall or retail space. You are only limited by your creativity and willingness to put yourself out there; Have fun and be creative. It’s about progress, finding joy in the journey, growing, learning not perfection. ANNOUNCE Announce that you are open for business. Let your friends and family know what you are doing and invite them to check out your personal website or host a class. Sharing on social platforms is a great way to promote your new business. You can set up a business Facebook page, a VIP group, as well as create other social media accounts for your business; Instagram, Pinterest, YouTube and TikTok. Using platforms like these will create a funnel of followers who are interested to learn more about you, your business and Magnolia Design Co. As you get ready to announce your business, think about the value and service you will offer your customers. Why did you choose to become a Creator? What are you most excited about sharing? Are you excited to inspire others to learn more about chalking? Inking? Making personalized home decor? Learning new techniques? Using crafting to connect with friends and family? BOOK Crafting is always more fun with friends! Schedule classes to inspire, connect and create with others online and in person. Magnolia Design Co. offers a host program designed to help you expand your contacts and meet new customers. In exchange for free and discounted products, a host invites his/her friends and family to an online or in person class to learn more about Magnolia Design Co. crafts and products. As you launch your business, booking 3-4 introductory connect and craft classes is a great way to start building your customer base, recoup your kit investment, qualify for Quick Start Rewards, and get familiar with Magnolia Design Co. products and programs. When you joined, you enrolled under a Sponsor, also referred to as your upline. Your Sponsor’s role is to support you, help you launch your business and answer any questions you may have. Your sponsor’s contact information was sent to you in your welcome email. Reach out to your sponsor and make a plan to book and schedule your 3-4 introductory classes. You can book your classes virtually and in person. Your kit contains an assortment of surfaces, stencils and pastes you can use in your first few demonstrations: Try it Class! Invite some friends and family over to try chalking with you! The reusable Black 3” Chalk Circles included in your kit can be used with our Mini stencil options, Demonstrate the assorted surface and stencil options that were included in your starter kit. The reusable boards are fun to show ways to update and change your designs and decor as many times as you’d like! CRAFT Inspire others to craft and create alongside you. Incorporate Magnolia Design Products into your crafting projects and promote the monthly craft club subscription box. Showing people different ways to use our products is a great way to capture interest and generate sales for products, supplies and kits. Narrow down some ideas, focus on one project and then complete it start to finish. Share what products you used with links to your personal website, share what worked, what didn’t, and what you learned and then show off your finished project. The monthly craft club is a great way to get you and your customers creating and learning new techniques and skills. Our monthly subscription kit comes complete with everything you need to complete a fun DIY project. With each box, customers receive different surfaces and mediums to use. 4

Inviting customers to join craft club and craft alongside you is an easy way to develop a loyal customer base while building long term relationships, plus you’ll earn commissions every month when craft club auto subscriptions are processed. You can find complete details about craft club in your back office under craft club support or in BOARDS in the craft club folder. Set a goal to sell a minimum of 5 craft club subscriptions before your kit arrives. This will generate $100+ in monthly sales, earning you enough commissions to cover your monthly $10.99 personal website fees. Launch your business with A,B,C, have fun in the process, celebrate your progress and remember to enjoy the journey. These next few pages will share where to find resources and information on products and programs to help you launch your business and inspire others to have fun and craft alongside you.
BOARDS What is this Boards we are asking you to utilize? Boards is a free application you can download to your phone (Android or Apple) or tablet and computer. It is a content warehouse that is loaded with text, images,videos and documents you can share directly from your phone’s keyboard over any messaging channel. With the click of a button, you can send images, text and information via messenger, email etc. The Magnolia Design Co. official Board includes approved resources for you to share as well as access to training and sales scripts. The Boards are organized in folders, start with the welcome folder and explore all the resources available. You can also create your own Board to store your personal images, text etc. When you go to: https://www.boards.com/ magnolias-corp, and access the application, you’ll find easy to follow instructions and set up. It will require you to enable full access to your keyboard. Boards will only have access to information on your Boards app and will not be able to access additional information on your device.
YOUR BACK OFFICE As a Creator, you have a personalized replicated website and Creator Login. This is a vital tool for your business. This is where customers can make purchases, where you will place your personal orders, set up parties, manage your downline, and have access to resources and training. Be sure to log into your account using your Creator ID or email (sent in your welcome email), upload a photo,double check your personal information and set up your creator profile. Make sure your email, phone number, and address are correct and up to date. Don’t forget to check your payment on file so that your monthly autoship will stay current (and remember, your first month $10.99 website fee is FREE!).
YOUR KIT Everything you will need to do a few projects are right there in your kit. You will be amazed at how many ways you can utilize your kit products to inspire your friends and family to create with chalks and inks. Doing an “unboxing” on social media (going LIVE showing your new kit contents) is a great way to generate excitement and annouce your new business. 5

NETWORKING Networking is key to building a successful business. An important resource tool for you to use is our Facebook group. This group is called Magnolia Design Co Creators, a private group created only for MDC members. You can use this group for inspiration and support. Here at Magnolia Design Co, we are a family. We strive for a nurturing, caring, and compassionate environment. Within this Facebook group, you will find ideas and encouragement from other Creators. Simply search for “Magnolia Design Co Creators.” Don’t be afraid to reach out here to other Creators to ask questions, share ideas, or get opinions.
TEAM BUILDING Amazingly, when you start to promote and share your new business, you will begin to attract people, who will want to learn more about joining you as a Creator. What does that mean for you? It’s an opportunity for you to unlock additional commissions by building a team. Your sponsor can share information with you about our compensation plan and answer additional questions about the benefits of sponsoring new Creators. Can you think of a few friends who might enjoy crafting and earning extra income working alongside you?
STENCILS Our stencils come in a variety of sizes and can be used on a variety of surfaces. The stencils are a reusable silk screen material with adhesive backing. Stencils last for approximately 10-15 uses, depending on application technique, surface material, and care when cleaning. To learn more about how to properly use the stencils, please refer to the care instructions on the backside of the stencil’s packaging.
STENCIL CARE INSTRUCTIONS We recommend you wash your stencil immediately after use. Use cool water to rinse off excess paste and/or ink. Do not let your stencil soak in standing water, as it will remove the stickiness on the back of the stencil. You can use a disinfecting wipe to clean off any excess residue on your stencil. Once the stencil is rinsed off, you will want to dry it by laying it face down with the sticky side up. Once the stencil is dry, you can reattach the shiny side of the backing slip to the sticky side of the stencil. Do NOT use baby wipes, as it could reduce the adhesive value.

CHALK PASTE Our chalk paste is a specialized formula that is a wet paste, but once applied to a surface and dries, it creates a beautiful semi-permanent design. Don’t like the design? Want to try a different color? On non-porous surfaces, such as chalkboards, the paste can easily be removed by washing with water. Porous surfaces are difficult to remove all traces of the paste color because the paste gets in every nook and cranny. We do not recommend using chalk paste on fabrics or projects that can be washed. Our reusable stencils work in harmony with our chalk paste to give you a beautiful design every time. Get creative and layer with different colors, add glitter, try blending, or add embellishments for original pieces.
CHALK PASTE USE INSTRUCTIONS Mix the paste well with the multi-task tool. You will want the paste consistency to be similar to yogurt or cake frosting. If the paste is dry, add a little distilled water and stir. Once you have the right consistency, apply the paste evenly with a squeegee to cover the stencil design. Apply a little paste at a time. A small amount goes a long way. Once the design is covered, scrape away the excess paste with the squeegee, and pull back the stencil. Remove the stencil before the paste is completely dry. That’s it!
CHALK PASTE CARE INSTRUCTIONS When your project is completed, we recommend scraping the sides and rim of the jar and gently clean the inside of the jar lid before tightly securing the jar lid. By keeping the chalk paste jar rim clean and tightened when not in use, you will preserve the lifetime of your paste. A helpful tip is, after you use your paste, spray the top layer with a small amount of distilled water before replacing the lid back on. Paste should be stored in a cool environment (less than 80º F). Shelf life expectancy of Magnolia paste is approximately 6 months.

PERMANENT INK Our permanent ink is a specialized formula that is wet when applied but once applied to a surface dries to create a beautiful permanent design. We recommend the use of inks on fabrics and projects that are heat resistant, such as ceramics, glass, and metal. Our ink has a thinner consistency than the paste. The ink is a little more unforgiving when working with designs. We recommend using the Magnolia ink mats to help secure your project. Staining of the stencil may occur when using inks, however, this does not compromise integrity of the stencil. Suggested shelf life expectancy of Magnolia paste is approximately 6 months.
PERMANENT INK USE INSTRUCTIONS Start by applying a small amount of permanent ink to your stencil. Using your Magnolia squeegee, you will want to evenly spread the ink over your design until all parts of the stencil ‘s design are covered. Remove excess ink and remove the stencil quickly. Wash the stencil immediately after use to lessen the staining that will occur. Follow stencil care instructions on the back of the stencil packaging. After your project has completely dried, you will need to heat set the design with an iron on a medium setting with no mist. We recommend using parchment paper as a barrier between the iron and the design. Iron front and backside of design for 4 minutes each. If you’re using a heat press, set your machine for 305 degrees and press front and backside for 30 seconds. If using ink on glass dishware, place finished dishware in cold oven and preheat oven to 350 degrees and bake for 30 minutes total, leave in oven until cool again.

SURFACES There are many surfaces available for purchase from Magnolia Design Co, but you are not limited to those items. You can use most surface types paired with your design to make your very own creation. Some examples include: wood, mirrors, glass, ceramic, and fabrics just to name a few. When using non-porous surfaces, like glass or ceramic, you will want to fuzz the Magnolia stencil prior to placing it on the surface to remove some of the stickiness. If you do not fuzz the stencil it will want to stick to the surface and will be difficult to remove. To fuzz your stencil, place the sticky side of the stencil on a towel few times to pick up fuzz.
