She said: “I encourage people to get involved and help your local community hospice charity, Lewis-Manning, and come on board with the Bournemouth Bay Run. There is a selection of events to be involved in, including walking, jogging or running either a 1k, 5k, 10k or half marathon – there’s an event to suit every ability.”

Lewis-Manning Hospice Care director of Fundraising, Tom Goodinge, said: “We are delighted to have Pip’s support, she is an incredible role model and truly inspirational athlete. I’ve heard lots of staff saying they’ve signed themselves up to run – it’s such a great way to kickstart the year and there’s no better way than doing it for our incredible charity.

I look forward to cheering everyone on!” www.lewis-manning.org.uk

education FOCUS ON with Weymouth College

Numeracy is a huge part of everyone’s everyday life. It’s there in the big, important things – work and finances. But it’s there in the small things, too - the food shop, following recipes, helping with homework and understanding facts, figures and insights on the news.

At Weymouth College we are proud to be a delivery partner in the government’s new £560 million programme to help transform the lives of hundreds of thousands of adults across the UK by improving their numeracy skills – Multiply.

Multiply delivers a range of free, informal, flexible courses – including supporting Family Numeracy, or Budget Busting – offering practical skills and knowledge which could make a huge difference to everyday life whilst elevating employability skills.

Through Multiply we can also deliver – for employers – FREE numeracy courses which are ideal for upskilling and strengthening abilities within the workplace. Developing numeracy, whilst also boosting productivity, increasing profits and improving employee retention.

Our ‘Numeracy Skills in the Workplace’ and ‘Self-Employed Company Finances’ courses give learners the opportunity to revisit and become more confident in basic numeracy skills. Specifically designed for the workplace environment, learners will develop numerical strategies and understand how to use relevant software, such as Excel and Quickbooks, to record, manage and analyse numerical data. So - who can apply?

The courses are for anyone aged 19+ living in the Dorset Council area who doesn’t currently have maths GCSE at grade C (or equivalent).

The flexible delivery of the courses means they can be adapted to when, where and how you want your employees to learn – learning which is bespoke to you and your workforce.
