2 | Christmas in Ferndown
The Rotary Club of Ferndown & Parley In conjunction with
Ferndown Town Council Wish you a Merry Christmas and welcome you to
“Christmas in Ferndown” It is with great pleasure that we are again staging our annual Christmas Market and combining the event with the switch-on of the town's new Christmas Lighting Scheme. It is with relief that we leave the past Covid issues behind us and move forward to an exciting Christmas and New Year. The “Christmas in Ferndown” market is a free public event with entertainment for all the family - market stalls, refreshments, Santa’s Grotto, live music, and rides for the children, all culminating with the switching-on of the Ferndown Christmas Tree Lights. Santa will be at home in his Grotto from 1pm until 4.45pm and would love to greet as many children as time allows. Each child will be given a present with opportunities for mum or dad to take a photograph of the event. However, parents, please note that there is a £5 per child charge for visiting and talking to Santa.

Message from the Mayor of Ferndown [\
I
t's that time of year once again and I can't believe it has come round so quickly. This year has been a very important and extraordinary one, both for myself and certainly for this nation. It was a great honour to become Mayor of Ferndown and Chairman of the Council in May, after serving as Deputy Mayor since 2020. I'd like to thank all the Councillors and Council staff for their support. During this time the Council has been extremely busy and the staff have done a fantastic job, under difficult circumstances, to bring it all together. Starting off with the Jubilee, we had a great few days of celebrations. There was a tea party for older Ferndown residents at the Barrington Centre, which was well attended. A service of thanksgiving for Her Majesty the Queen followed that evening and then it was my great honour to light the beacon on behalf of Ferndown at the appointed time. The next day was the Party in the Park, which was very well supported. There were stalls and entertainment and lots of people brought a picnic. In the evening we finished with a spectacular firework display, which everyone enjoyed. Sadly, a few short months later Her Majesty passed away, after a lifetime of loyal service to this country. On the accession of King Charles III the proclamation was made by myself outside the Barrington, in accordance with protocol, as it was 4 | Christmas in Ferndown

carried out throughout the nation. As well as coping with our own national mourning, we have had to witness the terrible destruction and tragedy of war unfolding in Ukraine this year. I am grateful for all the donations people have made, via the Town Council, for the civilians in Ukraine and I am proud of the Ferndown residents who have been involved in travelling to Ukraine to deliver aid personally. As a result of the sharp increase in the cost of living many vulnerable people will have to choose between heating and eating this winter and families will have to cut back this Christmas. I would, therefore, like to give a huge 'thank you' to all the dedicated volunteers at the Ferndown Community Support Larder who do wonderful work. Also, the many kind residents and businesses who make donations. I am looking forward to switching on the town's Christmas lights to start off the festive season this year. Hopefully, I will get the opportunity to meet many of you there. Thanks, as always, to the Ferndown and Parley Rotary CIO for the time and effort they put in to local events such as this. I would like to take this opportunity on behalf of myself, the Deputy Mayor and the Councillors and staff at Ferndown Town Council to wish everyone a Happy Christmas and a prosperous New Year.
