Bigger than ever, and now with the fun fair extending to Friday and Saturday evenings. Watch out for posters telling you more! Lots to do and see, with more on events in this programme. This is the start of a summer of events for the town. More follows from our very own Vanessa Ricketts, Ferndown Town Clerk, below.
George Phillips n i June! u o y e e S Event Director
The 1914-1918 World War will never be forgotten, nor will the men and women who so bravely gave their lives.
This year Ferndown Town Council and the Royal British Legion are working hard to ensure that the town marks the centenary of WW1 with respect and style with a full programme of events in the lead up to Remembrance Sunday on 11 November. This month sees the start of the preparations and “Silent Soldiers” will be placed around the town in reverence to those who made the ultimate sacrifice. The near life-size silhouettes of a World War 1 “Tommy” will be placed on verges, in Pennys Walk and outside the Royal British Legion in Church Road in remembrance of those in the armed forces who came home “silently” from the war, or who never made it home. The Soldiers will remain in place until after Remembrance Sunday and we would like to ensure that they stay in good condition during the year; we are therefore asking for residents to “Adopt a Tommy”. All we need is a resident/residents living near a Silent Soldier, to cut the grass around the base and report any damage or vandalism. If you are interested in looking after a Tommy near you, please contact the Town Council on 01202 892249.

Sketchshow are a five piece math-rock band hailing from Southampton, UK. Formed in January 2017 the band has spent the last year crafting their wondrous ‘Patchwork’ EP; exploring math-rock, pop and ambience, taking influence from artists as varied as CHON and Paramore. The debut EP is filled with angular riffs and extremely catchy vocal hooks. Whilst the band keep things interesting instrumentally, there is always focus on creating catchy and memorable songs with an anthemic nature. http://sketchshow.band
NEIL ZEBEDEE Neil has been playing the piano since he was 6 years old, performing in public since he was 10. The son of a church organist (his mother), he was quite at home playing in front of large audiences and actually used to play in church too. For many years Neil has sung in many bands all over the UK and abroad and finally turned solo in 2013, he specialises in wedding breakfasts, Piano bars, Hotels and Restaurants. A set consisting of many styles all piano based from greats such as Rod Stewart, and The Beatles with a few surprises thrown in, you’ll be singing along mid-conversation before you know it! Neil can tailor the set to suit any occasion or audience. The grand piano Neil plays in the demo video is portable and it is possible to hire Neil to play at your event with his Grand piano case. Recently Neil has added some completely new sets of more upbeat piano bar music, consisting of very well known sing-alongs and some rock and roll sure to get everyone up dancing. This means he is now targeting piano bars across Europe and beyond, and can often be seen playing at the famous Atlantic Piano bar in Villamoura, Portugal. https://en-gb.facebook.com/ zebopiano www.zebosolo.com

CHUBBY THE MAGICIAN Welcome to Chubby’s World Of Magic A Long time ago in a galaxy far, far away.........oops wrong story Chubby started magic at the age of 6, much to the annoyance of friends and family who had to sit and watch through every trick at least 50 times a day. His craft developed over time and was lucky to perform at school when he was aged 9. This led to being asked to other kids’ parties to do magic. NOT MUCH HAS CHANGED!!! At the age of 17 he joined his Local Magic club and continued to improve, leading to his first professional booking with a local agent. He has worked at many popular holiday camps, both here and worldwide. He has performed in front of Royalty and worked on the HMS Britannia Chubby has been performing professional magic for over 20 years specialising in children’s entertainment, balloon modelling, workshops and magic for private parties, shopping centres, schools, clubs, fetes, weddings, charity galas and corporate events.
DAVE FITZGERALD In an entertainment career spanning over 20 years, Dave “Fitz” Fitzgerald has both performed in and produced hundreds of events across the UK. After initially making his name on the cabaret scene, Fitz has developed a reputation as an excellent MC on the sporting speaker circuit and has worked alongside the likes of Paul Merson, Frank Bruno, Phil Tufnell, Bryan Robson, Graeme Souness, Lee Sharpe, Ray Parlour, Harry Redknapp and many more. In addition, Fitz was, for 7 years, the match Hospitality Host at AFC Bournemouth.
KELLY LORRAINE Kelly Lorraine is a local vocalist with years of experience covering Jazz and Country standards. www.kellylorrainevocalist.co.uk https://en-gb.facebook.com/ kellylorrainevocalist

As part of the Fete of the Field, the John Thornton Pram Race is back!
than and BIGGER BETTER ever The Prams will take to the starting line on King George V Playing Field at 3pm and follow a 1.5 K course with various fun challenges and activities along the way.
!
Competitors must be over 16 and an entry fee of £10 per person is payable on registration. Teams will consist of a baby and at least one pusher up to a maximum 4 pushers. Obviously, you’ll need a pram too and dressing up is essential! This year an optional Drag Race will add to the fun. Entry for this race is included in the Registration Fee. Prams will compete against each other and the clock, on a 100m track. There will be a trophy for the fastest team overall. There are lots of prizes and trophies on offer, but the main focus of the event is fun! If you are up for the challenge phone Pete Thornton today on 07792 121645 or sign up online at https://www.jtyaf.org/events/ This event will be raising funds solely for the John Thornton Young Achievers Foundation.
The John Thornton Young Achievers Foundation (JTYAF) was established in 2008 in memory of John Thornton, a young Royal Marines Officer from Ferndown who was tragically killed in Afghanistan. The charity supports local young people from over 20 youth organisations providing them with opportunities which inspire them to discover their potential, develop their talents and ‘climb as high as they can dream.’ The JTYAF has now made awards of £575,000 to almost 1500 young people. The Trustees are all volunteers and the charity has no paid staff or premises. Keeping running costs to a minimum ensures that the maximum amount of funds can be directly invested in local young people. John touched the lives of many people and now his legacy lives on making a real difference to the local community. PRS for Music licences the use of copyright music across the UK, giving businesses and organisations the ltttegal permission they need to play the music they want. These licences ensure that music publishers, songwriters and composers are fairly rewarded with royalties so they can keep making music and mean that we’re able to support music at events like this. DISPLAY The members of the Wimborne Model Aero Club, together with our friends from the Salisbury Model Flyers Club, are very pleased to have been invited to make our third appearance at the 2018 Fete in the Field.
We are looking forward to displaying our models on the showground and flying some of them in the lower field for your pleasure on June 23rd. This year being the 100 anniversary of the formation of the RAF we are planning to celebrate the that event by featuring a special flypast with a formation of “Warbirds for your entertainment. Model builders and pilots will be on hand to talk about our models and activities and we will, once again, be bringing along our flight simulator. Last year it proved to be a great hit, a very popular and smashing success in both senses of the word, with some of the children!

About the Club
Rally © The Kennel Club
The club meet at Three Legged Cross village Hall on a Tuesday evening with 3 classes starting from 6.30pm. With a training team of 12 we train handlers and dogs in basic obedience up to Competition level, All 4 levels of The kennel Club Good Citizen from Puppy Foundation to Gold test as well as running a 3 tier in house Platinum Test with elements of trials, obedience and helping dog work. Our most recent addition is a Rally class - here’s what the kennel club have to say about Rally
Rally is the very latest dog sport to be recognized by the Kennel Club. It’s fun and no matter what level you and your dog may be at it’s easy to get involved and start training and competing. Rally involves you and your dog working as a team to navigate a course with numbered signs indicating different exercises to perform; think of it as a sort of ‘obedience exercise obstacle course’ including simple exercises. If you have never tried Rally why not have a go at our simplified elementary Rally course at the show.
