Hello Dear ‘Rustics’
In the true spirit of the Rotary Wheel, what goes round comes around; and just around the corner “RUSTIC 2023” is fast approaching. For those of you new to the “village” the Rustic Fayre has been going for many years, and over time has become Verwood’s favourite day out. Since Verwood Rotary Club took the event on in 1994 it’s been held each August Bank Holiday Monday on Potterne Park playing fields. The format has evolved over that time, but the basics are constant: Stalls, Music, Classic Vehicles displays and Arena acts – all there supporting their various charitable causes. Of course, refreshments in all forms are critical so whether it’s an Ice-Cream, Tea, Burgers, Pimms or a cooling beer you’ll find them there; and remember all profits of the Rustic Fayre go to Local & Rotary charitable nominated groups. There are so many involved in the success of the Rustic that to mention any would slight so many more. Not wanting to do that let me say “Mega Cheers” to friends , family, sponsors, and helpers. But mostly to all of You for coming along and just enjoying the afternoon.
As Verwood grows and social outlets (Pubs & Clubs) reduce, random meetings with friends become rarer. The Rustic Fayre has always been the place to meet and make new friends, and catch-up with those you’ve lost track of. In line with many other groups the Rotary Club needs some fresh blood to continue with its aims of supporting the many needy causes, while at the same time having fun. We need more active members to share that fun; If you think that could be You, come and have a chat at the Rotary Control Gazebo – and remember, ladies are very much a part of our Club! More immediately we’re hoping for some extra help on the day: If you could spare a couple of hours please give me (or any Rotary member) a call 07707-074240. Be involved and save a fiver - Thanks!
Cheers “Rusty” Vern, Rustic Chairman.

Hello and welcome to all!
My name is Andy Maw and I have the privilege of being this year’s Verwood Rotary President. I would like to wish a warm welcome to you all, and I hope you have a great day here at the Rustic Fayre. Once again, we have held the entry fee at £5.00 for adults with free entry for children and offering free parking. We have lots of stalls for you to visit, some new along with some old favourites. The Rustic Fayre is Verwood Rotary’s biggest fund raiser, the money that is raised today will go towards supporting the many charities and organisations in and around Verwood. Over the last twelve months the Rotary Club of Verwood has raised just under £19,000 a great achievement. I would like to thank all our Rotary members and all our supporters for helping to put this great event together, and with a very special thank you to Rustic Vern for managing the whole event.
Each year the President chooses a local charity to offer additional support and this year’s President’s charity is “The John Thornton Young Achiever’s Foundation” whose aim is to help young people in the local area achieve their goals with bursaries and scholarships to fund their training and personal development.
I hope you enjoy yourselves today and remember every time you spend money at the Fayre you are helping your community.
The Rotary Club Of Verwood
Verwood Rotary Club was formed in 1988, and is a small friendly club, part of Rotary International which is arguably the largest service organisation in the World. It’s part of a “Brotherhood (& of course Sisterhood)” of over 1.2 million members operating in 168 countries worldwide. “Service above self”

At 4ish the ever popular Corporate Duck Race sponsored by “Dorset Windows” sets off down the River Crane. With over 100 runners supported by many of our local businesses it should be a close run thing. But this year there’ll be the opportunity to pick & back one of the “quackers”, maybe on behalf of the family or perhaps your Grandchild? Ask any Rotarian for details; our website, or look–out for Mike by Rotary Control.

The Squawk of the Town – the Purple Parrots Steel Band aim to bring a Caribbean beat to any event and try their best to supply the sunshine too. Led by founder of the band Sue on her keyboard, the pannist pals will rock through their repertoire from Hot Hot Hot to the Banana Boat Song. You’ll calypso ‘till you collapso!
Supporting the ‘Music in Hospitals and Care’, a charity close to the hearts of the band, having seen the huge effects and difference it can make to everyone.

Bourne River Morris Men
The Bourne River Morris Men have performed dances from the Cotswold region of England since 1967. We’re based in Poole, Dorset, but often travel further afield, and even overseas (well, Isle of Wight, anyway!) Morris dancing is a very sociable activity where we make lots of friends. We share our weekly Thursday dance evenings with other local teams, male, female or mixed. (As the name suggests we’re an all-male team). We are always on the lookout for new members to continue the 800 year old tradition, and to take it forward. No experience is necessary, we teach the dances (helps keep you fit, too!) and it’s free to try out. Musicians, male or female, are very welcome too. In winter we practice on Thursdays in Poole.
Come and chat to us! Or get in touch via bagman@brmm.org.uk or http://brmm.org.uk/.
Verwood Pantomime Society
“Verwood Pantomime Society is a non-profit making amateur Society formed in 1984 which aims to bring fun, excitement and affordable entertainment by local people for our local community. Our productions are open to everyone, regardless of race, disability, income etc. We currently have over 75 members, Friends, and Patrons, and a vibrant junior section. New members are always welcome - - Oh! Yes they are!!!
Since our inception, we have provided over 270 performances made up of 37 pantos and other shows, and we are proud to “do our bit” by raising many thousands of pounds for local good causes, by our after-show collections. The beneficiary for 2024 will be “Windward Day Services” based at the Verwood Helix Centre. They support adults with learning disabilities and autism. Any money raised will go towards learning independent living skills, and the provision of specialist equipment.
Our next production in January 2024 is “Dick Whittington”, and work is already underway to ensure the best possible performances for our loyal audiences, who come back year after year. Hope to see you there?
