WELLBEING WEEK 2023
Year on year Wellbeing Week gets bigger and better in CB, and this year we raised the bar yet again! It really has become one of the highlights of the year, for both staff and students alike. It's an opportunity for everyone to let go a little and have some fun, and this year did not disappoint!
We had some old favourites such as the Silent Disco, Multicultural Dress Day, Bring your Dog to School Day and music every morning in the GPA. We added some new events too - a Morning Mile to kickstart the day, Karaoke sessions in the canteen, a Big Busk to raise funds for Focus Ireland, and what was possibly the highlight of the whole week - The CB Masked Singer. The screams for that one were deafening! Performances from the very talented Saibh and even a guest appearance from this years Eurovision hopefuls Wild Youth. The Colour Run scheduled for the grand finale unfortunately got rained out but we'll squeeze that in before the end of the year!
Huge thanks to Ms Lawlor and the Student Council for all the hard work that went into putting this amazing week together. Can't wait to see what's in store for next year!!

DCU Steps - Engineering Your Future Programme
As part of Engineers Week, I took part in an engineering programme in DCU, organised by STEPS and Engineers Ireland The programme ran for 3 days, March 6th to 8th, on the DCU Glasnevin Campus I was the only one from my school, so I was very nervous, but it was really fun in the end
On the first day, we all got to know each other. The head of the school, Paul Young, gave us a talk and we did an integration project for the morning We had to work in pairs to take apart something, find out how it works, and do a poster on it It was challenging but interesting to see what everyone came up with at the end In the afternoon, we did a pneumatics laboratory I had no idea what the word pneumatics meant, so didn’t know what to expect Pneumatics deals with compressed air and gas. We were working in one of the labs. The professor explained to us about different types of valves used in pneumatics, we used 3/2-way valves and 5/2-way valves, and we also used single acting and double acting cylinders Our task was to read three different questions, draw a circuit to suit each one, and then we built the circuit on the training board It was complicated and we needed help, but we got there in the end
On the second day, we began with CAD (Computer Aided Design) and Solidworks I had heard of CAD before, but never actually used it We did a tutorial, and loads of us got lost along the way, but got a result in the end We learned about the different codes used etc. We also had a talk about 3D printing. We got pizza for lunch as a treat. It was really nice, but the boys hogged most of it After lunch we were doing challenge-based activities We were split into groups I was in a group with one of the girls, Eryn, and two boys, Peter and Sean We were building paper towers and egg protectors We were hopeless at the paper tower, but surprisingly, won the egg dropper competition! It was so funny, and it was nice to get to know more people.
On the last day, we had a workshop with the Rediscovery Centre from Ballymun. The workshop gave us an insight into sustainability within engineering and its importance. After the workshop, we went on a campus tour! The campus is really big and it’s really cool I enjoyed hearing about what the college has to offer and what facilities they have DCU is definitely a college I’d consider in the future We had lunch after the tour After lunch we were building parts for a car, and then putting it onto the car Me and Eryn took the front of our group's car It was by far my favourite task of the week! I loved getting hands on experience and doing practical work. To end the day we did a wiring task. I didn’t enjoy it but it was fairly simple.
I had an amazing week!

I really loved the 3 days I spent in DCU. If any future TY student gets the opportunity to do it definitely do. It helped me decide whether engineering is a career I’d consider and also helped me with my subject choices.
Active School Flag
The Active School Flag class have been very busy this term. We’ve had a webinar with another ASF class where we spoke about what we’ve been getting up to and other ideas we have. We just had Active Schools week where we had our learning on the move activities. The class also have been interviewed for a video for ASF and our school has also been filmed being active. We’ve also been at the launch of the Hermoves campaign in the National Sports Campus. But there’s more to come as we head in into the final term of transition year. Please keep a look out for us on our Instagram and Tiktok and let’s keep CB active! cb_activeflag_2022
Active Schools Week 2023
From the 6th to the 10th of March, we hosted not only our school's annual Wellbeing Week, but also Active Schools Week! We had been working hard planning activities and events for all throughout the week, and our class didn’t disappoint when the time came to deliver everything we had planned
We kicked every day off with our Morning Miles with Ms.Ronan, and Ms.Harrington joined in too! It was a fantastic way to start off the day with some fresh air, a chat and some physical activity! Students were eager to join in and it was great seeing our Walkway get some use!
But that was only the beginning of what we had planned. During the week, our ASF class members were leading Learning on the Move with different classes and their teachers! Students took part in a variety of activities from basketball sa rang Gaelige to active music making, and of course our Walkway was put to great use!
Lunchtime each day was a hive of activity! We upped our game in the hall when loaning out equipment by making it more fun in a number of ways. Students loved our Take on the Teachers initiative, where they could challenge their teachers to a game. It got intense but was highly enjoyed by all.
On Tuesday, we of course had a part to play in our whole school event. We hosted our whole school movement break, so everyone could take a break, stretch those legs, and get active. On Wednesday, our school had a silent disco, but in the meantime, our ASF class attended the launch of HERMOVES in Blanchardstown at the Sport Ireland campus. Our girls were great ambassadors and gave it their all! On Friday, we had planned our whole school colour run, but unfortunately, we had to postpone it due to weather conditions. But we didn’t let the rain get us down! We ended the week on a high, with a whole school rock the boat!
It was an amazing week and safe to say, enjoyed by all. Thank you to the teachers for letting us lead your classes and thank you to the students for your constant enthusiasm, and willingness to participate!

Lycée Edouard Herriot
On January 14th 40 students from Lycée Edouard Herriot dropped by the school for a morning of language "speed dating" with Ms. Ward's & Ms. Bracken's 6th Years French classes. We alternated speaking French and English on a timed basis. After an initial shy start, all our C.B girls quickly got the hang of things and got their best French accents out for our visitors!! It was a fun morning, and we later joined the French students in the Leisure Centre in Tallaght for an evening of bowling.
Connections like these are so important to Coláiste Bríde. We got to know the teachers of this secondary school in Lyon, through our French Exchange programme a number of years ago and have continued to maintain a great relationship with the school ever since. It is great for our students to have a direct link to French students where they get to practice the language and build relationships.
YSI Speak Out Tour 2023
As part of YSI, we (TYD) had to attend the 2023 Speak Out Event. This event took place on Monday the 27th of April, in Griffith College. Schools from Dublin, Kildare and Wexford were there.
We presented our project in front of all the schools and five judges. Our project was about spreading news to young people and teenagers so they can incite change and be aware of things that happen around the world.
The event started at 9:30 with a little bit of dancing to lighten up our moods. Then groups were called up one by one until our name was called up. We started the presentation with a news report and then we started talking about our project. At the end of our presentation, we got pins with the YSI logo. It went really well. The atmosphere was amazing, and everyone was very respectful. At one point there was a dance battle that we unfortunately didn’t win. The event finished at 11. We will get our feedback on the 17th of April.
