Hello! My name is Amy Boggans and I went on the Home Economics trip to the Ploughing Championships in Co. Laois. Ms. Glynn and Ms. McKeon organised the trip, and on Tuesday the 20th of September, we set off.

We met at the school gates bright and early at 7am, arriving at the Ploughing around 9.30am. Ms. Glynn and Ms. McKeon told us our meeting spot, gave us our tickets and then we went in. The place was huge! Immediately, myself and Aoife bought ourselves a coffee as we would not have been able to function without it. We then set off to begin looking at all the stalls.

The place was packed! We walked around for a while, occasionally looking at a map as we had no clue where we were going. We went to Angus Beef and saw the livestock. We went into stalls such as Toyota and Tesla, An Garda Síochána, The Coast Guard, The Army, RTÉ, Breast Cancer Ireland, SETU, Aldi, TikTok, Bord Bia, Sinn Féin, Government of Ireland and a few more.

We got cool blue cowboy hats! It got so crowded in the Aldi stall and me, Lisa and Siobhan went to wait outside. There was a really nice man who came around to the exit and gave us hats. Jennifer and Aoife were still inside so we did not know if they got hats or not, so we asked for two extras. I learnt a lot about different career paths! I learnt about the many opportunities open to young people to start careers in a many diverse kinds of business.

I loved the Garda stall, the Coast Guard stall, and the Irish Defence Forces stall. I found it quite interesting! In the TikTok stand we got to see Shauna Davitt and Ryan Mar (two famous Irish TikTokers) Lisa, Jennifer and I got slushies. At the end we got chips and drinks, and we sat on the grass and chatted until it was time to go home.

IT WAS A REALLY GREAT DAY!!

On Wednesday 19th October, Ms Moloney, along with our traveller students, were invited into the Dail to meet with Senator Eileen Flynn. A tour of both the Seanad and the Dail, followed by a meet and greet with members of the Oireachtas. Students also sat in on Taoiseach's questions and listened to both Michael Martin and Mary Lou McDonald as they discussed pressing issues.

The girls themselves have been invited to engage in the Bill to include traveller history into the curriculum. Whitney O'Reilly & Clarissa Stokes are currently reviewing the Bill put forward. A fantastic opportunity for the girls, and a memorable experience meeting the first female senator from a travelling background, and TD Catherine Connolly, the first female TD to hold the position of Leas-Cheann Comhairle. Great inspiration for a group of young girls breaking the mould.

Our new ASF Class has been very busy since September. We already have so many new ideas and projects to keep our school community active! We have published our very first issue of the ASF Times. Click on the QR Code to read in full!! Every month we bring you a new teacher physical activity profile. We have been making many an appearance on the TV displays in the corridors!

Our class has been working on our “Did you Know?” campaign to raise awareness for our students on different ASF information.

We are now planning our first whole school event. We are visiting PE classes to lead and officiate dodgeball which will then lead on to our annual Teacher vs Student dodgeball event in the hall on Friday 28th October.

We have also completed our Whole School Survey, and will soon be analysing the results. We assure you that we will do our best to take action on your great ideas and suggestions!

Our walkway team are currently in the process of raising funds for our school walkway. They are working on a presentation for Ms Ronan to showcase their ideas.

We are going up a hill and fundraising for The Jack & Jill Children's Foundation at the moment. We kicked off a fortnight of fundraising fun last Saturday to support a teaching colleague Ms Flood, a Jack and Jill Mum from the Coláiste Bríde community and also to support other Jack and Jill families in the community.

Some of the teachers climbed Bray Head last Saturday, the whole school community will get involved in a Fancy Dress Fun Day on Friday 28th and our wonderful first years will all go up another hill (local this time) on Tuesday 25th. We think this is a wonderful opportunity to develop empathy in our students, to go 'one step beyond' in Nano Nagle's footsteps.

Huge thank you to all who got involved and supported this amazing charity.

2nd year students visited Trinity College Dublin where they received tours of the campus from Trinity College ambassadors and former Coláiste Bríde students. They were brought into lecture halls and got to hear all about college life and how they got there. They also got the visit the very engaging and interactive EPIC museum where they learned all about Ireland’s diaspora community around the world.

TY Bonding Day at Go Quest

Our TY bonding trip took place on the 22nd of September, and we went to GO QUEST!! We had nearly an hour and a half to complete as many rooms as we could and gather as many points as we could. The challenges tested our mental and physical strengths. It was fun to figure out how the challenges worked but at the same time you were rushing to solve the challenge in order to win. Some of the challenges included playing musical statues, feeding the dog, hanging onto a monkey bar, swinging sloths on a swing, completing a morning routine and finding the monkeys in a maze. What was even funnier was that our tutors got involved and tried to beat us. We were constantly checking the leadership board while rushing from room to room. The day ended with us having an hour to eat and shop at the nearby shops. It truly was a great day and we all talked to new people! We even got to go home at 1 which really was a treat. Work Experience...a students account

Last Wednesday 14th October, some ty students attended the Shine Festival. The Shine Festival is an event where girls from schools across the country come together to celebrate being young woman and empowering each other to change our future.

The Shine Festival was set up by the company, the Shona Project.

The Shona Project is a group set up to help young girls during their teenage years, by doing workshops and making survival handbooks. The event was held in the Clayton Conference Centre, Burlington Road.

When we arrived, we went into the conference centre and looked at the different stands that were set up. Defense forces Ireland, Permanent TSB, and a domestic violence campaign ‘Too Into You’ were some of the many There was a Dove wall, where everyone would write something we loved about ourselves and stuck it onto the wall. A stand that stuck out for the group was the Vicky Phelan portrait. At this stand, a good friend of Vicky’s told the story of her life and explained the portrait of Vicky that was commissioned for her. This story was powerful, and it brought tears to some girl’s eyes. On a lighter note, some of the activities we did at the Shine festival were Zumba, dancing, singing and meditation!

Our favourite speakers were Ellen Keane, a Paralympic gold medalist. Ellen spoke to us about her struggles, as she has only one arm, and being comfortable in her own skin. She also took out her gold medal she won at the 2021 Paralympics. The most energetic speaker was a lady who was on Goggle box, Yemi Adenuga. She spoke to us about self-confidence and belief. She is the first ever black woman in Irish politics. What we liked most about her talk, was the way she interacted with the crowd. Yemi had us clapping, shouting and on our feet! The Shine Festival was thoroughly enjoyed by CB, and we hope to see it back next year.

It has been an incredibly busy term for our Trinity Access and CFES programme. Here are some of the highlights!

School of Distinction Awards

We were thrilled to win a Trinity College School of Distinction Innovation Award. This is a huge honour and a testament to all the hard work being done in Coláiste Bríde to support our students in their educational and vocational journeys. Principal Louise Ronan accepted this award on behalf of the school during a ceremony in the beautiful venue in Trinity College on the 14th of October; It was a wonderful day where we showcased our College Awareness Week and networked with other schools and shared ideas around promoting a college going culture in our schools. A huge thank you to the Trinity Access Team for a wonderful day.

Lean into the Leaving Certificate – 5th Year Visit to Trinity College

Five of our 5th years were selected to attend the Lean into the Leaving Certificate event in Trinity College. Rosie Armstrong, Sinead Armstrong, Agnieska Dabrowska, Julia Mazik and Hafsa Azeem had a detailed campus tour, learned about their options after the Leaving Certificate and heard from a panel of Trinity students about life in College. They also participated in a study skills workshop and have been offered some free grinds! What a wonderful opportunity!

Trinity Access English Lectures and Maths grinds for Junior and Senior Cycle students

Some of our 3rd year and 6th year students have registered for both the online and in person grinds for HL Maths students. It is not to late to register: any other students interested should contact their Maths teacher or Ms Carson for more information. Information about the English Lectures for 6th years is on your TEAMS page.
