COME AND LISTEN TO THE NEXT GENERATION OF PIANISTS

Liszt Competition If you want to listen to the next generation of pianists, come to the Liszt Competition. Fourteen talented pianists between 19 and 29 years of age will travel from all around the world to Utrecht to compete for the prizes. They will each perform three concerts, including a chamber music concert with a violinist and cellist. The three finalists will then perform a solo concert and a concert with the Netherlands Philharmonic Orchestra in the main auditorium of TivoliVredenburg. > 17 to 28 March, TivoliVredenburg liszt.nl

Jeangu Macrooy The career of the Surinamese singersongwriter Jeangu Macrooy is something of a rollercoaster: his debut album ‘High On You’ was nominated for an Edison (a prestigious Dutch music award) and he was a huge hit at various festivals, including Lowlands and North Sea Jazz. His second album ‘Horizon’, a mix of soul and pop with hints of jazz and gospel, has also been given the seal of approval by the music critics. In May, Macrooy will be representing the Netherlands in the Eurovision Song Contest in Rotterdam. > 19 March, Podium Hoge Woerd podiumhogewoerd.nl

Tora An introduction to the multi-faceted electro from Down Under. The debut album by the Australian foursome Tora received high acclaim from no-one less than Elton John. The next album ‘Can’t Buy the Mood’ is even more diverse, featuring smooth guitars, sharp drums and soulful undertones. > 3 April, EKKO ekko.nl
