Ernst Caramelle

Ar>st 1 The layout of the work has different shapes which are rotated and repeated. There is a paPern which is rota>on. There is a simple design, the shapes have been over lapped, the size of them are structured differently. The ar>st works look balanced because it has good pace it is colourful (red) (only blue and cream) colour used. The texture looks smooth. There are different lines which construct the shapes in different way. The tone of the art work are very bright.

Ar>st 2 The layout of this work has different lines which look random. There is no paPern in these pain>ngs. There are just simple design. The size of the lines are structured differently. The ar>st works look balanced because it has good pace it is colourful like in one pain>ng it is only blue, the other one is only pink and the middle one has different colours. The texture looks smooth. There are different lines which construct the shapes in different way. These pain>ngs are structured in a different way by the way they have been painted, landscape or portrait also the different colour that have been used.

The layout of this art work has different shapes which are rotated and repeated. There is a paPern of lines in the first piece of work and the hanging shades too. I like the last one because it very colourful, it is balanced and the rectangles which are simple shapes have been structured straight. There is a simple design. Everything has different size. The ar>st works look balanced because it has good pace it is colourful it has different tones. The texture looks smooth. There are different lines which construct the shapes in different way. The art work is for exhibi>on which looks aPrac>ve.

Tracey Emin Monoprints

80%-‐20% Canada

Emin’s work has simple and plain colour, because this a monorpint and she has decided to use black ink. The posi>on of this print is in the middle of the paper and there is no posi>ve space as the print is in the centre everything else is nega>ve. The texture looks rough and grainy. It does not look hard. The tone of this art work is quite light because it has been done on a light paper. The lines are short and wiggly. Emin has done this print as a child because she wants us to think about our childhood.

Lino Analysis

ScarleP Rebecca; Featuring portraits of Dick Strawbridge

Rebecca’s work only has black and white colour portrait. The posi>on of this print is in the all over the paper and there is no nega>ve space because she has done the print in the middle. The texture looks smooth but soG and grainy. It does not look hard. The tone of this art work is quite dark because it has been done on a white paper. The lines are short and straight and of different shapes. Her work is a portrait of a man and to show his age she has made different marks on his face to make people believe he is a old man. It is based on a real life. I like this image because it is black and white and it has different methods of cu^ng into lino. He seems to communicate joy and importance of being a individual.

Deconstruct Reconstruct photographs John Stezaker

Mask XXIX 2006 Collage

Marriage (Film Portrait Collage) XLV 2007 collage

About Stezkar I like Stekzar’s artwork because he has used different photographs to make something new out of it which stands out. The image was made with variety of different photographs. The collage is black and white which tells it was made in old >mes. The images are about marriage, love, mixed thoughts, deep thoughts and life in general. Stezaker’s work re-‐examines the various rela>onships to the photographic image: as documenta>on of truth, purveyor of memory, and symbol of modern culture. In his collages, Stezaker appropriates images found in books, magazines, and postcards and uses them as ‘readymades’. Through his elegant deal with close together for contras>ng effect, Stezaker adopts the content and contexts of the original images to convey his own fun and poignant meanings of the photograph. Stezaker focuses on the concept of portraiture, both as art historical genre and public iden>ty. Using publicity shots of classic film stars, Stezaker splices and overlaps famous faces, crea>ng hybrid ‘icons’ that dissociate the familiar to create sensa>ons of the uncanny. Stezaker both temporally and conceptually engages with his interest in Surrealism. Placed in contemporary context, the portraits retain their aura of glamour, whilst simultaneously opera>ng as exo>c ‘artefacts’ of an obsolete culture. He got the photographs from old magazines books and different memories. Stezaker’s collages are very delicate and it links to my work because I’m making a collage of my old pictures which are my childhood photographs.

Evalua>on of collage I was inspired by Stezaker’s work because his photomontage stands out; I liked the way he chose appropriate photographs to create a new photograph. Most of his photographs are black and white which shows they are old, but the ones in colour are modern. To experiment some of Stezaker’s work, I chose one image in which there were different people, then I chose variety of other photographs and cut out the face of the people only so that I could change the faces of the people in original photograph. Stezaker’s collages are related to marriage, love. The photograph I chose was black and white but I cut peoples face in colour and used a prick s>ck to glue it. Then I glued the photograph on a black card so that it stands out and I can carry on cu^ng pas>ng anything I want to.

Triangle Collage Kat Serediuk

Green study. Pain>ng

Purple study. Pain>ng

Blue study. Pain>ng

Serediuk’s work is different to mine because I have done a triangle and she has done a pain>ng using acrylic paints. There are various shapes in the pain>ng but the main shape is triangle. The colour blue associate with sky which means it is natural and the colour cream again with the hues of blue colour stands out. Seerediuk’s pain>ngs are inspiring because the shapes are strong it goes with my collage. The bright colours in the pain>ng like purple, blue and green are primary.

Glenn M Skibsted

Faded memories

Skibsted is a contemporary ar>st who works with oil paint. I like how he take photographs of human nature, art work of news, travels or everyday’s colourful banali>es. His aim is to recall, reveal and make available emo>ons and people that oGen can be leG to fade away. I’m really inspired by Skibsted’s work because he make good pain>ngs bearing in mind the composi>on and colours. I can relate to his work because I can take similar photographs and personalize it. Photoshop can help me develop my skills.

Plan •  6 photographs •  1 collage of photographs •  Enlarge college photograph and enlarge to A2

End of project evalua>on I chose ‘memories’ as my theme to explore. I looked back over old childhood photographs, including photographs from college and school. AGer researching the work of John Steazker and Glenn M Skibsed. I got the idea to scan my old childhood pictures and make it into a collage, I also had another idea from Skibsed’s work, which was taking pictures of shoes or city lights which I did took but didn’t use them in my final collage. I have experimented with medium of photography throughout the project and collage. The most successful technique was photography and collaging my old photographs because I edited some of the photographs in Photoshop and made a A2 collage. My final outcome was a collage of my childhood pictures which was related to my theme memories, the collage also relates to Steazker work which was successful. I used different range of colours but most of the colours were dark because the pictures I used were old. Green, grey, black and blue were the colours I used, however when I was making my collage I changed the colours so that the collage looks colourful, I used pink and light blue. The colours associate with memories and old photographs. There are shapes like squares, rectangles and triangles in my college. The triangle work relates to the ar>st Kat Serediuk. They all have different effects because they are smooth, peaceful, bright, some are dull and they are emo>ve. If I had more >me I would do some lino prints, drawing, printmaking to develop my work through these experiments.
