Dfifferent layers of an urban area tells us underlying issues that help in making context-specific responsesand solutions for the context. The context is a development around a transit node of an urban area, specifically areas around metro stations in Bangalore that is the purple line and the green both having varying density, land use and socio-economic patterns. The chosen conetxt is the Baiyappanahalli metro station and its surroundings which have a corellation to the NGEF institute behind it and the varying types of hosuing along the HAL vicinities.

fer A prominent feature that continues across the entire area of Baiyappanhalli, in our observations, are the street markets. Apart from the vendors all along the footpath on the OMR, these informal markets, and ‘bandis’ are also spread across the inner lanes of the various settlements in the area as well. These places constitute the majority of the gathering / activity zones in the various parts of inner Baiyappanhalli. Adding to these are the other parts of the public realm, such as the religious institutions, and the transport hubs (such as the Metro statio n, bustands). Another observation to be noted, is the location of these ‘nodes’, generally being at the junctions of streets, or near existing old landmarks of importance, add to the bustle of the space.

THE URBAN HAAT. A program that responds to the site issues and conditions leads into an urban haat. That compromises a combinition of informal and formal markets along with exhibition spaces and workshops.

The form and oranisation is inspired by the streets and markets in India which compromises mixed use of retails and eateries and different nodes and intersectios meeting together forming a gathering space along the path.

The concept would rely on the fact that a market need not have a start or an end to it. it has a continous flow which can begin anywhere and end elsewhere. The idea of having bridges and walkways help in transitting to the other spaces at a differntial height and experience.

A comopolitian city tackles its real estate deflict, by fitting more than one program in a given space or doubling its usable hours. These hybrid spaces combine two or more purposes to it having a combination of primary commercial activities such as Eat + work With an idea to replicate , a pop up resturaunt that would use the space for a given period can sell their eateries

HAB ITATI O N The chosen site and context is Madurai along a temple premises. This specific project is based on a timeline at around the 1990 which has a varying set of activites that differ from todays generations. A study and inspiration from the traditionall courtyard and the katte at the varanda gives us a basic study of a lifestyle in the context. keeping in considerations of the women in the family and their daily chores.
