Individual Review
Carrying out the Tasks (individual): 1. My idea for an event The tasks that were completed were categorised into either the category of individual tasks or group tasks. The first individual task that I carried out was researching on my event. The event that I investigated was a 5-A-Side Competition. This is because I thought that it would appeal to a vast audience due to being a popular sport. These types of tournaments attract a lot of attention and because this event is very similar to these tournaments, it will attract a lot of people who are willing to express their skills and who like a bit of a challenge as a team. For this idea of tournament, I carried out both primary and secondary market research. For my primary research, I carried out a questionnaire on 50 people who would be interested in attending the talent competition, either as part of the audience or as a competitor. I found it fairly easily to find 50 people who would be interested in attending a tournament, which led me to believe that more than 50 people would be attending. I created a spreadsheet showing all the potential income and expenditure. Making the spreadsheet was quite easy because I am quite fluent at using Microsoft Excel however I had never created a spreadsheet model showing costs, so I had to do some research on spreadsheet models. Now that I had a good idea of what a spreadsheet model looked like, I could make one for my event. I also found using the formula’s quite simple. The fact that my idea was chosen, I believe that I carried out the research and created the spreadsheet to the best of my ability. 2. Creating a corporate identity We each had to create our own ‘look’ for the enterprise after deciding together on the target audience, colour scheme, and the type of strap line our enterprise should have. We decided that the target audience would be 15 - 16 year olds, the colour scheme would be blue, orange, yellow and green, and that our strapline had to be easy to understand but unique and attractive at the same time. Taking this all into account I started to make my logo. My logo was created in Photoshop, which I am very fluent at using. However the logo is a mixture of vector and bitmap. I found it fairly easy to think of the name ‘Football Mania’ because I already had the idea that my name would have something catchy. I found it easier to make a unique yet simple strapline. To do this, I created loads of straplines and asked my group which they preferred. My favourite strapline, ‘IN IT 2 WIN IT’ received the most votes, so I chose this one. This strapline was also used by other members in the group as I had allowed them. Below you can see a picture of my finished logo with its name and strapline.
My corporate identity was also annotated so that the rest of my group could clearly see the reasons behind the different parts of the logo. For example on my logo I have a small silhouette of a boy playing football. This makes it clear that this football tournament is intended mainly for boys but girls are welcome to take part. My logo was not chosen as the final corporate identity because it didn’t reflects all the decisions made by the team about the colour scheme and target audience. The reason why the other ‘looks’ were chosen was because they did have some of the discussed aspects, they also had high resolution and reflected all the decisions made by the team about the colour scheme, target audience.
3. Website To create the promotional website, it was more of a team effort. I was allocated the task of designing the structure of the website, Omer’s task was writing information on each page and Didar’s task was adding the graphic touches to the site. I found this task fairly easy as the website was created in MatchWare Mediator, which I am very confident at using. The task of putting the website together was completed fairly quickly because all that I had to do was put all the pages into one mediator document and the make sure that there was consistency between the pages. This generally meant that all the buttons and the background needed to be in exactly the same place on each page. 4. Promoting the enterprise To promote the event I created several items. These were: Large Banner, Flyer, and Presentation. Prior to this task I didn’t know what a large banner looked like but after further research I found out what it was. I created the large banner using Photoshop. Creating the layout and outline of the Large Banner was the easiest part however I found that knowing what to write inside was the hardest part. This is because it needed to apply to all ages and both genders; so that all people seeing the banner would feel welcome to come. I created my Flyer in Photoshop because not only was I familiar with the program but it also had many features that would make my poster more attractive and eye-catching. The task of creating a Flyer was quite easy and only took me about 40 minutes to make. This is because I had a clear idea of how I wanted the Flyer to look. The Presentation was created in PowerPoint. I knew what the presentation had to consist of and found the task relatively easy. I talked about the event to try and persuade potential visitors to come. 5. Enterprise Proposal The aim of the enterprise proposal was to convince potential sponsors that this event is a worthy cause and will actually make a difference. They need to be convinced that if they are going to be putting money into this event, then the event needs to be successful. The proposal was split into four separate parts to equally share the workload. These were: Who are we? What’s the big idea?, It will work and We can sell it? The part that I did was ‘It will work’. In this part I needed to talk about the findings of our spreadsheet model and how much profit we make. I needed to show where and what most of the expenditure would be
on and where our income would come from. According to the spreadsheet we could make £71.45 profit from this event. The next section of the proposal was 'We can sell it!' This was done by each group member. We decided that we will talk about our own promotional items created. For my part I clearly explained why each of my marketing strategies would be necessary. I found the enterprise proposal quite challenging because I had never done something like this before however I still enjoyed it as it was something new and gave me a chance to develop by persuasion skills. 6. Creating my e-portfolio As I am now fluent at using MatchWare Mediator, I find it much easier to make an eportfolio. I decided to start making the e-portfolio earlier because it meant that I wouldn’t have to do it later when time was short. I enjoyed making a unique background which allowed me to personalise the e-portfolio. Feedback on the e-portfolio suggested that it was easy to navigate through and all the evidence can easily be accessed. 7. Documents for the promotional website. These documents include the form which was created for people to print off from the website if they wished to participate in the event. I did this because I had finished my page for the website and was waiting for the other team members to send me their work. My Contribution to Teamwork: I believe that I contributed very well to teamwork as all the tasks were distributed fairly. The tasks that were allocated to me, I completed to the very best of my ability and made use of feedback in order to improve them. I contributed well to the tasks because I met all my set deadlines that were decided by the team. As I did a fair amount of work, I would say that I contributed quite well.
How was my experience of Team work? Although I had never worked with my team members prior to this unit, I believe that over the course of this unit I have got to know them very well and that we have become good friends. The communications between each other was very good, because we were able to meet up at school where we could exchange our items and we could also exchange tasks and other materials over instant messaging such as MSN and Fronter. As a team member I believe that I was treated quite well – and with respect as I would treat the other team members. My opinions and views were listened to and taken into account and I felt like I ‘fitted in’ well with this group. When I gave constructive criticism, they accepted what I had to say and improved their work according to my suggestions. When I had suggested something, the group agreed just like I would do if, the suggestion was given to me by another member. An example of this was
when I suggested that we should charge £1 for those that come to watch the event because they are likely to give the money if they know that it will be going towards a good cause. If there had been any times when my opinions were overshadowed, it was because the other team members needed to voice their opinions too. I believe that I have not been treated badly by my group and in the future I would like to work with them again however I would also like to work with different groups so that I can get to know other people better and get a wider understanding and improve my teamwork skills. My team members were very supportive towards me and one another. This is because as well as listening to each other’s ideas, they offered help and support either at school or online. If I found a task hard and needed help, they would help me by telling me what to do or where I was going wrong. My team members also happily gave feedback and are honest so they would tell me if they didn’t like a certain aspect of my work or if anything needed improving. This team was carefully chosen to have people with different skills so that everyone would specialise in something so that we could use a range of software in our work. I also believe that my experience of working in a team had helped me a lot and also taught me a great deal. I have learnt to work alongside other people and I believe that the skill of teamwork is very valuable. This is because during the time I spent working in a team I have learnt to become more tolerant and accepting towards other people. I have also become more responsible because I had to always let my team members know if I was going to arrive late for a meeting or if I was going to be unable to attend a meeting. This quality of responsibility will help me in all aspects of life and work. Time Management I think that we managed our time quite well however we did have to change some of the dates. The reason that we missed some of the meetings and group-set deadlines was because some of the group members had their GCSE exams which meant that they had to prioritise revision over their tasks for this unit. Therefore they were unable to complete the task. As well as this, the task and who they were allocated to was also noted in the plan. A Second Chance If I was given the chance to do this project again, I would definitely change some things. I would have also liked to have tried out a different and more unique event, for example, a ‘sponsored weird sports day’, which could include sports such as ‘3 legged race’ which are not very common. Also, If I had the opportunity to do this again I would definitely work with the same group however I would like an extra member because the maximum was four, this means that there is an extra head which can contribute to the market research and anything’s that needed creativity like the website. Also if I could do this project again I would make sure that we had more face to face meetings (not online) and that we discussed every detail of the project which would ensure that we didn’t miss anything out. I would have also liked to have got to know everyone and their skills a bit better before starting the project because then it would feel more
comfortable because I would feel like I was working with friends, instead of just working with ‘other students’. Summary of Feedback My individual Spreadsheet (for 5-A-Side Tournament) Name Omer

No parts are really blurry which is good as it will not lose quality when enlarged or made smaller. However, doesn’t Reflects all the team’s decisions such as the colour scheme.

Conclusion Overall I believe that as a group we had all the right characters to make the project successful. I believe we achieved our very best by listening to each other and be supportive when needing help. I definitely have benefited by working in a group because I learnt a lot of communication skills which will benefit me when I enter the world of work. I believe that I would work in the same group again but I would have liked for the team to work more efficiently throughout the process to achieve results on time. All in all I was proud of my own achievements as well as my group members.
