Prime Singapore was among the earliest to enter into the supermarket business, undertaking mini-mart operations from 1984 to 1988, before going on to medium-sized ones. Full-fledged Prime Supermarkets occupying 10,000 sq. ft. (929 sq. m.) and above came into existence in 1991, lending strength to what it is today - a conspicuous supermarket chain with 20 outlets. Notwithstanding the supermarket business no longer being a growth industry, it remains irrefutably an essential form of business to consumers as well as the retailing organisation. In light of the competitive nature of this industry, Prime Singapore runs two supportive trading arms to boost its position: one imports and supplies perishables such as vegetables and seafood, while the other focuses on consumer lifestyle merchandise from Southeast Asia and China. The Group has plans to further revitalise Prime Singapore’s supermarket business. In 2005, it took steps to be more attuned to shifts and changes in consumer lifestyles and expectations. When Prime Singapore extended its supermarket operations to 24 hours, it elevated and redefined the concept of convenient supermarket shopping;

it was among the first to provide this level of service to heartland consumers. Came 2007 when Prime Singapore started to give more than a handful of its outlets a revamp of varying magnitude in a bid to provide a more comfortable ad friendly shopping environment. Opportunely, working closely with Singapore’s Standards, Productivity and Innovation Board (SPRING), Prime Singapore also embarked on a journey to equip its employees with better customer service skills under the Customer-Centric Initiative program. Hereafter, Prime Singapore will be actively fueling the development and promotion of its house brand, Prime Choice, a total company training programme for front-line management staff and launching its next phase of upgrading and renovations.

“Founded in 1984, Prime operates 20 outlets nation-wide and is the 4th Largest supermarket chain in Singapore.”

0 Carbon Emission

1 Core Philosophy

At Mahota Farm, facing traditionally heavily pollutive pig farming, we deploy ways to work towards achieving zero emission by using manure to make compost and create biogas.

Mahota Farm has adopted Taisheng methods of cultivation, which involves tending to the needs of the earth and all living things with love and compassion. Our farmers believes in maintaining the environment in adherence with the natural order: symbiosis, sharing and harmony

2 Types of Farming The interrelationship of animals and plants forms a self-subsistence system and helps create a larger symbiotic ecosystem of biodiversity.

4 Levels of Commitments Taisheng is a comprehensive mode of agricultural practice that cares beyond the quantity of the yield, but also the wellbeing of the earth, the individual, the family and the community.

6 Facultative Lagoons Liquid manure from pigs is filtered through six massive lagoons. The water is then used to nourish the aquatic crops before flowing into our wetland. The recycled water is used for irrigation and washing of our piggeries.

3 Essential Elements Mahota Farm understands that a good harvest depends on the harmony between all the three elements: soil, climate and man.

5 Critical Concepts Reduce: the use of energy consumption Rethink: the idea of agriculture Reuse: rainwater Recycle: waste to resource Recover: soil fertility

7 Great Practices Biodiversity & Integrated farming Recycling of nutrients Soil conservation Pest control and crop health Resource conservation Implementation of a system with traceability Cultivation of mind, body and soul

Mahota farm practises Taisheng Agriculture, is an organically self-contained ecosystem with its own individuality, which organisms are interdependent. It is an essential part of a resource management system, an agrarian project which seeks to conserve the local agricultural environment, promote organic food and eco-tourism. At Mahota Farm, livestock, aquaculture, forestry, and crop production are integrated to allow efficient circulation of matter and energy within its ecological system while pollutant emissions are minimized and the use of resources optimized. With the spirit of traditional farming, no synthetic fertilizers are used at Mahota Farm and essential crop nutrients are entirely supplied by the organic fertilizers made on site. Mahota Farm adheres to the principles of locally and environmentally based optimal crop production. Crop rotation is the practice of growing a series of crops of different families in the same area in sequential seasons. To meet the market demands in Shanghai, crops that suit the local growing conditions, including vegetables, rice, wheat and legumes, are selected for cultivation. Vegetables are planted in both open fields and specially designed greenhouses. Mahota Farm in striving to reunite heaven and earth, revitalize the soil, observe the natural order and achieve sustainable agriculture, grows fruits and vegetables that are certifiably organic and toxin-free and beneficial to all living things. Plant protection specialists were hired to train our own on-site inspectors responsible for monitoring the population of pests and implementing environmentally safe and effective biological pest control methods.

Following the national guidelines for organic crop production, Mahota Farm has proactively gone through a certification process, showing the determination to both ensure the safety of Mahota products and solidify consumer confidence.
