here’s to repeating history... at least when it is good. Maia Collette Henderson

Written by Kayla Dzioloski. When I was little, my mother loved having my sisters and I wear big flowers everywhere she went. I think to her, it signified that we were a unit and we were here little girls. This is a picture of us at Disney Land. Today, I still like to wear the big bold sunflower print, just in different ways. One of my favorite shirts is this soft, jersey-knit grey top with with a huge sunflower on it. It is a little more grown up because the sunflower has an artistic filter on it. I can also roll the sleeves to make it seem a little more “badass” in a sense. To me, sunflowers symbolize the summer and more of my feminine side. The big prints makes a statement about my personality. Wearing a giant sunflower front and center on your body basically begs for people to look. In the winter though, I still wear this top. I would pair it wilth some black jeans and black booties, maybe a dark red cardigan or something. When I was a dramatic pre-teen, I used to look back on these pictures and laugh at how ugly my outfits were and swore I would never dress like that again. Now, I’m taking the same concepts just applying them in a more mature matter.

The black crop top is a staple in my wardrobe. I usually wear it going out because it is so easy to match things to and shows a little bit of my flat stomach I’ve worked hours in the gym for. Black is the perfect neutral for night because it isn’t super fancy but it is still serious. I think we have changed the fit of the crop top a lot ( I wouldn’t be caught dead in my mom’s!) but the idaea has stayed the same. People choose the style that fits their body best and dress it to match their personality. I chose this knit crop top because no matter how many times I mess up the laundry, it won’t shrink! It also has a nice high neck so I can wear cool necklaces without having them compete with cleavage. I’m not sure why a long -sleeved crop top every exisisted (is it supposed to keep you cool or warm?) but I’m glad to see that the crop top has stuck around for awhile.

Written by Eleanor Henry. I can’t get over how comfortable my jellies are. I remember getting a million blisters a s a kid wearing them, but hey, I guess they’ve improved. My aunt showed my this picture of her wearing jellies with a friend back in the day. I can’t believe they wore socks with them! Especially tie-dye socks! These shoes are actually underrated though. They are waterproof, bold, and last forever. The best part is being able to just throw them in the shower to get them clean. It is cool how we have stuck with the heeled jellie like my aunt had. I can wear these to class or out, depending on how I dress them up or down. I’m not sure if the same company makes the shoe, but I hope they keep in business. The only problem with my jellies is that they can’t stand the heat too much. Once, they began to melt while in NYC on a hot summer day. I found these jelllies at American Apparel, which I feel good about because they are American-made and pay their workers well. Maybe I’ll try wearing socks with them in the winter if I can’t live without them for long. Who knows...maybe I’ll be brave enough to throw some tie-dye socks on even? Wish me luck!

Written by Sarah Kingsten. My mother doesn’t have fond memories of plaid. She went to an all girl’s catholic school where plaid was their daily uniform (See front row, the blonde in the center). She cringes when she sees anything that resembles her uniform in stores and has sworn off the pattern for life. I, on the other hand, am iin love. I think plaid is the ultimate fall “comfort clothing.” The color palette always makes me want to go grab hot chocolate and go ice skating. I think my generatino wears plaid in so many unique styles and forms that we don’t relate it to school uniforms as much. I love how the pattern can also vary so much. It can be this huge block-y pattern or a very small subtle pattern. I think we have adapted and modernized plaid. No longer do we wear knee-high socks and white collared shirts under our dresses. We let our skin show and make plaid feminine. I can wear this on a date and feel totally myself and like I am making a great impression. I wish my mom would give it a chance again! While trends do cycle back, they change and get better with time!

Written by Lauren Freggs. It took me a long time to wear lipstick. I viewed it as an outdated makeup trend that resulted in my always having to wipe my cheecks after my grandma kissed me. I thought wearing lipstick meant committing to starving yourself all day in fear of messing it up. Wow, was I wrong! After playing around my some cheap drugstore colors, I realized lipstick made me feel invincible. I loved how it took my whole look to a new, bolder level. I laugh at how you can see the confidence beaming from my mother’s face in this picture. I’m disapointed it took me this long to give into the lipstick movement. I also know that nowadays, our lipstick is scientifically better. It can last up to 24 hours without smudging. I can keep my care free lifestyle while adding some flare. I think the colors lipstick comes in today compliment our culture so well. They are very modern, but with class and innovation. Some people like to wear the “crazy” colors like blue and yellow, but I think the majority of stick to the more normal colors. Occasionally, I’ll bust out a nice orangish red though or a deep deep purple to show that I’m not too cookie-cutter!
