HISTORY The lively maritime district of Barcelona was once a barrier island called Maians, which over the centuries became a peninsula: Barceloneta.
Mediterranean beach culture with the cosmopolitan style of one of Europe’s most dynamic cities. From this colourful setting comes Maians, a thoroughly unique line of plimsolls that fulfills the Spanish requisite of casual yet chic.

Our entire range is handmade using vulcanisation, a process where the upper part of the shoe is fused together with the sole by heating natural rubber pellets. Each shoe is handmade one by one in an artisanal manner, making each pair one-of-a-kind. Spring Summer 2014 | Maians | 5
The traditional vulcanisation process takes the rubber pellets as shown in the image above and melts them down to create the sole of the shoe which is then fused together with the upper to create your final pair of Maians. The rubber used in the soles is made from a high percentage of natural rubber with distinctive positive properties. This type of rubber is very stable and therefore suitable for use in the vulcanisation process. It is very resistant to damage and is also adherent, especially on wet surfaces. As the rubber is flexible it makes for a softer and more comfortable shoe and the natural properties of the rubber mean that the sole is also breathable, making it much healthier for your feet as well as better for the environment.

We build on the tradition of Spanish vulcanised shoemaking. The style names commemorate those individuals who have been part of this tradition over the generations; Tirso, Amador, Eugenio, Pepa. All characters a part of the Maians history.
Every pair is carefully handsewn by our experienced “zapatilleros�. Special care is taken with every detail of the manufacturing process.

INSPIRATION Summer is back. The waves of the changing season bring smooth shades and new textures to the shores of the Barceloneta beach.
The summer waves lap the shore forming unique patterns and images in the sands. The shifting tones of beige, brown, blue and grey best represent the good old days of the Maians shore. The ever changing tones, textures and patterns of our beach served as our inspiration for the Spring Summer 2014 collection. The constant ebb and flow of the sea and sand have been incorporated into our collection by experimenting with new ways to play with shape and construction.

Our new women's model "Agueda" blends an elegant urban shoe in rich natural fiber uppers with a gym sole. Inspired by the legacy of the 1992 Olympic Games on the history and culture of Barcelona.

Take the new “Sisto diluido� with its unique dip dyed sole in two colours, blended softly and gradually like the morning patterns on the sea shore. The comings and goings of the ever-changing Barceloneta landscape and life are reflected in the blended patterns on the sole.
