THE JOURNEY Vecto Petroleum originated after farmers expressed a need for more reliable deliveries, clean diesel and personal service when catering for all their petroleum needs. Also, mines, transporters and forestries conveyed the same need for personal service and tailor-made, state-of-the-art equipment to monitor stock levels and prevent theft. With this in mind, Vecto officially kicked off in December 2012. From there the story reads like a fairy tale as the contacts, systems and breakthroughs can only be described as miraculous. With honesty and integrity as pillars, Vecto will embrace the endless opportunities provided by the South African petroleum industry.

After receiving numerous requests, from mainly farmers, for cleaner diesel, pure petroleum products and improved service delivery, we started to explore potential opportunities. It surprised us to find that there was a significant lack of service, consistent delivery and tailor-made solutions within this industry. Furthermore, the use of technology and innovative solutions, aimed at enhancing service delivery and the management of fuel, from the depot to the farmer’s tank and into the tractor or harvester, were nearly nonexistent. This, created a significant niche market for us if we were able to supply a service that everyone was so clearly desperate for. Sources told us that theft accounted for up to 20% of overall diesel costs, and a further 20% could be attributed to mismanagement, shrinkage and fuel losses. Stories of contamination and/or blending (diesel mixed with paraffin) were common, and we thought it a good idea to try and reinstate an ethical name to the petroleum industry by providing our customers nonnegotiable, superb-quality products, as well as free Test Kits with which to test product quality. Inferior fuel products have a negative impact on income in the long-run and could even cause huge losses when expensive machinery breaks down, never mind the losses caused by down-time in an industry where the window of opportunity is so small (when it rains you need to plough, and when the sun shines you need to spray crop protection products before the next rain). This can erode the profitability of the farmer, which is of great concern, as profitable, sustainable farmers is what our country needs.

During the last two years Vecto has hosted various rugby days where clients, agents and staff gathered to support the Springboks in STYLE! Kitted out in Vecto caps, apparel and other merchandise, we travelled far and wide, to witness our home team in numerous clashes. At Vecto we donâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;t do things in small measure, and these Rugby Days were no exception... What an awesome experience for everyone to get to know each other and for us at Vecto to show that we know how to host the best events. 16

On 3 October 2013 Vecto Petroleum celebrated its first birthday in style with a “Gatsby” themed event, sure to be remembered fondly by all who attended for many years to come. Some 250 invited guests, including customers, suppliers, staff, family and friends were treated to spectacular entertainment, auctions and a mouth-watering feast. The proceeds of the auction were donated to charity, in keeping with Vecto’s ethos and commitment to improving the lives of others. An absolutely fantastic time was had by all who attended and everyone surely noticed that Vecto is set to be a serious player in the Southern African petroleum industry. VECTO

PAD NA JOU HART 28

During February 2014 Vecto Petroleum made its big screen debut as the company featured prominently in Pad na jou Hart, the first Afrikaans romantic adventure film. The movie then went on to break all records in South Africa, it was the most watched movie, the most popular ever, and managed to scoop numerous awards including the Tempo award for Movie of the Year. Its coproducers and writers, Ivan Botha and Donnalee Roberts, were respectively crowned Tempo’s Actor and Actress of the Year: Movie, Drama, Sitcom, for their roles in this hit film. It further garnered over 65 000 pay-per-view rentals via South Africa’s foremost cable network. Currently the movie is being shown on an outdoor screen in it’s “under the stars campaign”, travelling to many small towns across South Africa. This film succeeded further in establishing Vecto as a household name. Most recently, the popular Afrikaans film has officially been accepted by two well-known international Film Festivals in America: The Edmonton International Film Festival (EIFF) in Edmonton, North America and the Logan Film Festival in Logan, Utah. The film has also had very successful premiers and screenings in both Australia and New Zealand playing to sold out theatres every time.

Vecto’s primary reason for existing is to make a difference in people’s lives. These differences include job creation, our staff and especially by saving our customers money. Most important, however, we strive to make a difference in the community, i.e., through our success we are able to plough support back into the community and the lives of the less fortunate. In Vecto’s short existence we have already distributed hundreds of food parcels, jackets and other clothing items, tents and blankets, especially to the homeless throughout South Africa. The more Vecto grows the more of a difference we want to make to the lives of those not yet as privileged as us.
