facebook.com/maitlandcitycouncil twitter.com/MaitlandCouncil WHAT’S INSIDE REPAIRING OUR ROADS HAVING YOUR SAY NEW PLAYSPACE OPENS SCHOOL HOLIDAY ACTIVITIES WHAT’S ON SUMMER 2022–23
MAYOR’S MESSAGE
We’ve been graced with some better weather (touch wood!) over the last few months, which our Works crews have been grateful for as they continue to kick goals across the city.
The improved weather has meant we’ve been able to progress plenty of key roads
From new playspaces, to upgraded footpaths
$30 million in Capital Works funds on infrastructure upgrades in 2022–23. There was good news in October, too, Maitland will receive funding for two McMahon Oval and $1 million for Cooks Square Park.
I know the teams regularly using these facilities will welcome this investment into community sport. We’re all looking forward to seeing how we can improve our venues for everyone.
2022 has been a big year for all of us here in Maitland, and I’d like to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. Whether you’re travelling for the holiday or keeping local, stay safe, and I look forward to seeing the crowds back on the riverbank on New Year’s Eve to ring in 2023 together.
Mayor Philip Penfold
ROADS
FILLING YOU IN ON OUR ROADS
Three consecutive La Niña years and two major flood events in 2022 have wreaked havoc on our road system, and our teams are working harder than ever to keep our roads in good condition.
We’ve been out and about actioning pothole requests across Maitland, temporarily adding an extra potholing crew and committing more staff to road repairs.
On top of that, much of the roadwork we do around Maitland is preemptive so we can extend the life of our roads and keep them in good condition for longer.
AND RECONSTRUCTING
Did you know that in 2022–23 alone, Council will undertake road rejuvenation
To rejuvenate roads, we apply a bitumen based spray which replaces lost oils and resins in the existing road, and seals small cracks and imperfections in the surface. Once complete, the rejuvenation will counter the impacts of the thousands of journeys taken on our roads every year and help future proof our roads for years to come. That’s in addition to our reconstruction and rehabilitation works across the city. Find Maitland City Council on Facebook for updates.
