UNIVERSITY OF ILLINOIS AT URBANA - CHAMPAIGN M.ARCH
2023
Hello! I am Maitri Savani, I am currently a second year grad student at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, where I am pursuing a Master of Architecture degree. During my studies, I have explored various topics and methods in architecture, such as urban design, digital fabrication, parametric modeling, and computational analysis. Some of my notable projects include a mixed-use development in Chicago, a cultural center in India, and a pavilion for the UIUC campus.” I am skilled in using various software and tools for architectural design and representation, such as AutoCAD, Revit, Rhino, Grasshopper, SketchUp, Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign. I am also interested in exploring the intersections of architecture, technology, and society, and how they can inform and inspire each other. I invite you to browse through my portfolio and see some of the projects I have worked on and the ideas I have developed. I am eager to join a dynamic and innovative team of architects and designers, and to contribute to the creation of meaningful and impactful spaces. Please feel free to contact me at msavani2@illinois.edu if you have any questions or comments. Thank you for your consideration.”

The Illinois Rowing Centre+Community boat house is designed as a cohesive structure that offers a common space for athletes at the entrance of the building, creating a welcoming atmosphere. The heart of the building is the indoor rowing tank, which connects to other essential spaces around it, forming the main support of the training center with clear views to the indoor and outdoor areas. This design strategy aims to foster a sense of belonging, learning and sportsmanship among the Illinois rowing community. The spacious floor plan encourages sportsmanship and team work, improving the overall experience for athletes. The heart of the building is the indoor rowing tank, which connects to other essential spaces around it, forming the main support of the training center with clear views to the indoor and outdoor areas. The design features a series of ramps that not only enable easy movement within the structure but also link training and sportive performance. The building also incorporates sustainable features such as solar panels, rainwater harvesting and natural ventilation, making it an eco-friendly and energy-efficient facility. 04

Roof profile: The roof constitutes a lightweight structure that envelops the delicate glass box situates on the robust base of the boat storage, establishing a visual connection with the floating boats on the lake. The design emphasis a lofty form to accentuate the central indoor rowing tank, incorporating skylights to facilitate the necessary direct and diffused light into the tank. This creates a captivating interplay of light and shadow within the space. The angles of the roof are calculated to optimize structural support against snow and water loads, achieved by angulating the roof and incorporating down takes at two planes perpendicular to the north-south. direction.

In the innovative design of a high-rise building, a central core has been meticulously crafted to harness the chimney effec fluence throughout the entire structure. Within this atrium, strategically placed operable louvers play a crucial role: they g ture regulation and improved indoor air quality. However, the brilliance doesn’t stop there. The architects have also incorp conduits for fresh air. They allow natural airflow to permeate the living spaces, ensuring a constant supply of oxygen and creating a building that breathes and adapts seamlessly to its surroundings 15

As a result, the building benefits from efficient temperaporated a feature critical for cross ventilation: single-loaded corridors. These corridors, flanking the housing units, act as contributing to a comfortable and energy-efficient environment. In essence, this design harmonizes form and function, 16

As an architect with experience in both residential and mixed-use commercial projects, I’ve gained valuable insights: Holistic Design Approach: Balancing aesthetics, functionality, and user experience is crucial. Whether it’s a cozy home or a bustling commercial space, understanding the needs of occupants and integrating them into the design is paramount.Working closely with clients, engineers, and contractors has taught me the importance of effective communication and teamwork. Collaboration and Confidentiality: While I can’t share specific drawings due to confidentiality, I’ve learned to respect privacy and maintain professional integrity.
