There are so many amazing deals, value sets and gifts-with-purchase making it easy to get lost with the variety and choice, but we’ve made it easy for you. Follow our gift guide to help you choose the best beauty presents for your loved ones, picked out by beauty industry insiders and beauty bloggers. You want a truly special party look? Why not try re-creating 2 HOLIDAY/2010

the looks from this year’s most gorgeous beauty promo photos? Read the low down on how to get those looks. Holidays are a great time of year to be adventurous with a bold, red lip, but consider experimenting with other dramatic shades, too. How about deep wine, hot fuchsia or sultry plum lipstick? We all know what a new lipstick can do, so make sure you treat yourself to a truly luxurious one for this Holiday. It could be Chanel or Armani, but how about Tom Ford or Serge Lutens for a highly pigmented luxury look? Of course, you can’t be party perfect without a beautiful manicure. In this issue we have an interview with Nonie Creme, Creative Director of one of our favourite nail polish brands, butter LONDON. Read her tips on applying nail polish, seasonal trend shades and a sneak peek on whats coming for Spring! As usual on the last page we publish our current beauty obsession – this time it’s the edgy and brilliant Ellis Faas! Happy shopping and enjoy your holidays! Marina, the Founder and Editor

4 HOLIDAY/2010

What colours in nail polish would be popular for this holiday season? What nail polish trends do you think will be popular in the next seasons? We are celebrating the holidays with a selection of metallics. Metallic lacquer feels festive, but more sophisticated than say, glitter or just plain red. Look out for them now: Fairy Lights, Knees Up, and Perfect Prezzie – limited edition and going fast! S/S 2011 has a distinctly retro feel, and I think our customers are ready for moderately colourful nails again after many seasons of “greige”. We’ll be showing a whitish, bubblegum pink, a cobalt blue, and a molten metallic apple green amongst others. GORGEOUS!

What is butter LONDON’s best selling nail polish? What is your personal favorite? What shade would you recommend to someone who is new to the company? Our all time best seller is “Yummy Mummy”. It’s an elegant, opaque beige that suits absolutely every skin tone, and in fashion year in, year out. It’s my top recommendation to anyone out there. My personal fav? Changes hourly!! Today it’s Knees Up, a show-stopping metallic red from our holiday selection. What kind of shade would you like to create? What was the most unique nail polish colour this year in your opinion? I’d like to work more with holographic particles like the ones featured in our best seller All Hail the Queen. I’ll dive into that a bit more for Fall 2011 I

Please tell us something about yourself and what you do. I started my career at a communications agency in Berlin which is specialised in social media and IT; quite different to the International work with beauty brand Rouge Bunny Rouge I joined in 2007 while I was looking for more creative and inspiring tasks.

I totally adore aromatherapy inspired products like our Make-up Melt Cleanser to wake up in the morning and relax after a long day. Also a good Lengthening Mascara to achieve an adorable look without any other products is one of my top beauty essentials. Multipurpose make-up products like our Luminous Skin Wand and Decadent Duo which are easy to use to keep my beauty routine simple and handy in the same time are a must. During the winter season I can not live without Lip Balm that needs to work for very cold temperatures, too.

highly recommend are those I included into my daily beauty routine this year like the very nourishing and hydrating Cold Plasma for eyes (Perricone MD) and the RBR Glide Concealer as it blends effortlessly in your natural skin colour and glow without looking like traditional concealer. And finally, everyone wants to know, about the makeup trends for 2011. Can you share with us? On one hand we will see alluring and seductive makeups and on the other hand natural tones for a nude, very pure but healthy and still polished look. Maybe one of the hottest make-up trends for the next year are fresh and bright spring colours for your eyes in combination with a warm summer look and slightly glowing skin. Also brighter lips with more earthy toned colours for eyes are my favourite looks for the upcoming year.

My name is Zu and I am the founder and Managing Director of Zuneta.com. Zuneta is 2 years old now and we specialise in selling niche/luxury brands from all around the world. We are online only and we focus on using innovative content to bring the brands we sell to life – so video content, photography, articles etc. I guess you could call Zuneta a nursery for emerging brands? Before I created Zuneta I worked in global brand strategy and product development for L’Oreal. My job took me all over the world and gave me a good grounding both in understanding cosmetic formulas and also in understanding how the needs of women differ depending on their ethnicity. Zuneta is unique in that we take a very personalized approach to product recommendation, enabling us to build up a loyal and (hopefully!) satisfied client base from all over the world. What do you like the best about the beauty industry? I find the beauty industry very exciting because not only is it glamorous and sexy, but also a serious and viable business opportunity. I get the right balance of mental stimulation and fun in my working day! I love how we are able to make women feel when we match them with the right products. It is incredible how much a woman’s confidence can improve when she feels beautiful both on the inside and out. 18 HOLIDAY/2010

I am very lucky as I have access to a fantastic range of products but still I find myself lusting over certain things! I am very into fragrance at the moment and top of my wishlist would have to be Le Labo Rose 31, closely followed by By Redo’s Pulp. I also want to fill my apartment with Malin & Goetz candles. Otto for my bedroom & dining room I think (a lovely rose scent) and Rum for my living room which is a fantastic, heady scent.

This year it was all about having the longest lashes and the straightest hair. So I would have to say that lash extensions by Lash Perfect and the KeraStraight hair treatment at Trevor Sorbie in London's Covent Garden have been my highlights. And finally, everyone wants to know, about the fashion trends for 2011. Can you share with us? We will all want to look like Farrah Fawcett Major did in the 1970s when she was in the US TV show Charlie's Angels - get those curling tongs out, buy yourself a bright orange maxi dress and some cork wedge shoes and you are good to go for summer 2011!

did you like the best? What are the stand outs and must-haves in this years collections in your opinion?

Magi from

To be completely honest, I felt very uninspired by the makeup collections so far this year as a whole. However, there have been a few must have items in my opinion. First and foremost, this season we saw Urban Decays Naked Palette, which to me is absolutly essential and if I had only one palette to use for the rest of my life...this would be it! I also am loving the new gold eyeshadow from NARS, Estrusque. Lastly, I am loving is the Illamasqua four palette liquid metal palette, very versatile.

opinion? I really liked the imagery of Urban Decay Holiday 2010 collection with their jewelcolored eyes and cat-eye shaped looks. I got totally sucked in and bought their 24/7 Jackpot set to try their famous Glide-on eyeliners and so far, I'm absolutely loving them! On the other hand, I was completely disappointed by MAC's oerings this season. For my nails, I enjoy wearing two China Glaze polishes from the 'Tis the Season to be Naughty and Nice' collection: a funky pinkish gliiter called 'Mrs. Santa' and a burgundy black 'Naughty and Nice'. What kind of colour and shades of makeup do you like to wear in winter? What about your holiday look, do you have any ideas already? I'll be very boring and predictable and say deeper, more berry-toned hues for lips and cheeks and greys and purples for the eyes, which work very well with my pale complexion and dark brown irises. I'm also partial to a bit more shine and sparkle than usual, especially on the lids. My idea for a holiday look involves some neutral brown shades for the eyes with a touch of gold shimmer above the pupil and a darker, juicy lip, possibly involving NYX lipgloss in 'Garnet'. Plus some beautiful glittery nails!

thing is 'must have' from holiday collections. There are so many lovely stuff but nothing is *really* stunning. Maybe I just got fed up with so many collections which are coming out all the time, I don't know. And some colors are repeating too much which also the other reason I don't think here are any special must haves. What kind of colour and shades of makeup do you like to wear in winter? Though I like to wear bold but darker colors in the winter time, this year I decided to "fight" this ugly weather with some colors which really stand out like vivid purple, electric blue, turquoise, etc. I just got an electric blue gel liner and OMG, it looks so gorgeous in this winter time! I think I'll wear it all the time. About my holiday look - no idea, but definitely something with lots and lots of glitters! I love glitters and I think this year I'll apply it all over my lids, but haven't decided which color :)

I’ve been using my Chanel Soho Blush and Highlighter for cheeks, and Rouge Coco in Stunning for lipstick. Nars Etrusque is genius for this time of year—the warm gold brightens up a grey or brown eye. Also, I’ve also been enjoying Bobbi Brown’s Modern Classic Eyes and Lips Palette—it’s like playing in a paint box and it gives me a winning look every time.

What kind of colour and shades of makeup do you like to wear in winter? What about your holiday look, do you have any ideas already?

For me I just loved Chanel's Les Tentations collection - the browngold palette and the hot pink lipstick and gloss are just amazing and I also like Becca's Fallen Angel collection (the eye palette and the new Pewter Eye Tint in particular). The Shu Uemura Takano collection is something completely different on the outside but it's adorable, the palette with browns and golds is lovely and the little lip pots with red, pink and apricot are all very versatile (a stain and gloss) and wearable (on my Christmas list!). Also I have ordered Coffret sets (the Japanese holiday gift sets) from Jill Stuart, Lunasol and Esprique Precious!

I tend to stay away from super bright colors as much as possible in the winter. I do have a few uges to wear them anyway though.

What holiday makeup collection did you like the best? What are the stand outs and must-haves in this years collections in your opinion? I actually loved the Wet N Wild Holiday collection. For such an affordable brand, the eyeshadow palettes are just gorgeous. So amazingly pigmented too!

I love to wear strong eyes, not black, just very dark metallic shades of blue, green and browns. Or, I have very nude eyes with liner and hot pink lips or carmine coloured lips. What holiday makeup collection did you like the best? What are the stand outs and must-haves in this years collections in your opinion? I absolutely fell in love with Yves Saint Laurent's Metallic Colorama Makeup Collection. It was love at first site! The stand-outs in the collection for me are the gold-inspired La Laque nail shades in "No. 139 - Gold", "No. 140 - Pink Gold" and "No. 141 - White Gold". And, the shimmering gold lipsticks in "No. 34 - Metallic Gold" and "No. 35 - Metallic Pink" are must-haves!

ready? To be honest, I’m still loving Autumn colours so much that it’s hard to drag me out of them. Purples, plums, coppers and the ubiquitous browns and taupes make up the majority of my eye shades. I’m adoring bold lipstick at the moment so you can throw some red and berry shades into the mix! For Christmas Day? Definitely a red lip... I liked Chanel’s Holiday Collection the most... it contained the perfect mix of sultry and sparkly to light up the season. The stand outs were the Chanel Tentation Cuivree Palette and the Ombre D’eau in Splash. I also particularly liked Estee Lauder’s Extravagant Berry Lipstick from their Holiday collection.

However I am definitely taken by the Chanel christmas collection. The eye shadow palette and blusher are both divine, and Chanel is one of my favourite brands. I also love the Estee Lauder Christmas collection - classically beautiful and timeless. I do feel that high street brands are also well worth a look though - the new Revlon Fire and Ice lip and nail duo are gorgeous vintage pillarbox red shades which are perfect for this time of year. What kind of colour and shades of makeup do you like to wear in winter? What about your holiday look, do you have any ideas already? I very much view the colder months as my licence to indulge in reds, berries and more dramatic looks. I have naturally pale skin and feel like this becomes as asset in the winter. On an everyday basis I tend to just try to make my skin look as flawless as possible. For nights out or days off work I'll definitely hit the darks and reds on lips and nails, and smokier eyes. Even with more neutral eyes I like to add a smudge of liner for more definition and to balance the look, especially if I'm doing a strong lip! gant Gold Pure Color Five Color Eyeshadow Palette is a stand-out too as earthy tones for the Holidays are quite unusual, and this palette is very versatile that its use will span beyond the holidays. Some of the must-haves would include Dior Minaudiere Pink Golds, Shiseido and RMK holiday palettes.

What is the best beauty related present you ever received? A train case, from my husband. It shows his understanding and support for my love and passion for makeup.

What kind of colour and shades of makeup do you like to wear in winter? What about your holiday look, do you have any ideas already? I like to wear 2 extremes of shades for the winter. For the eyes, purples and plummy shades are some of my all-time favorites and especially so in the fall and winter. I do add in a dash of blue or grey here and there for variety. For the lips, that would be dierent tones of red and plum. For the cheeks, it's usually a sheer blush in the shades of pink.
