Spring 2010 Spring Has Sprung!

After a very long and cold winter, I’m sure we all are happy that spring is finally here with the positive changes it brings! We all want to look even more beautiful, fashionable, chic and sophisticated, but what does this new season bring in fresh and exciting beauty trends?

The Insider: Lisa Eldridge Lisa Eldridge is probably my favourite Make Up Artist! She is super talented, always creates amazing looks and gives great tips. How did you discover the love for makeup? What were the best moments in your career?

I was given a book on Stage Make-up for my 13th birthday and that was more or less it! I was already obsessed with drawing faces and colour so when I saw this book it clicked that this was what I wanted to do. I started doing make-up for school plays and the rest is history. Highlights are too many to mention but seeing my first ever Vogue Cover at my local news stand was quite a momentous occasion. I used to walk past all the time to admire it up there on the shelf‼

What do you like the What beauty products best about being a Make are worth the investment?

Up Artist? So many What is a must-have for things. every woman?

I get to do what I love everyday and never get bored because every day is different. My job has taken me all over the world and introduced me to so many extraordinary people. It’s a privilege to be a make-up artist!

A good set of skincare that really works for you. Make-up can only do so much when it comes to beautiful skin and really good make-up depends on well cared for skin.

Beauty trick that always theatre etc without realizing all I used to constantly play with these industries are very sepa- my crayons as a child just deworks?

Shading in the eye socket line whether with a neutral or bold shade. It’s amazing how something so simple can really open up and define your eyes so quickly.

What advice can you give to those who plan to become a Make Up Artist?

What are the best products to get besides good brushes and concealer set?

Decide what type of make-up artist you want to be (fashion/photographic, film, prosthetics specialize, television, music industry or theatrical) and really specialize in that one area, at least whilst you are trying to establish yourself. So many people I meet say they want to do fashion, film and

rate. Don’t spread yourself too thinly, concentrate and focus.

You can always diversify later once you have built a good name for yourself. Get a good set of bases – you don’t need tons of colours as you can always mix them up. Something like a set of Mac face and body (if you are doing fashion) and then build up your collection from there.

Source of inspiration?

Everything inspires me! Interiors, textiles, Alfies Antique market, good books, holidays, everything in nature, seaweed in New Zealand, frescos in Italy, polished wood, stones on a beach, art, films, buildings, peoples faces and even conversations. I’m always feeling moved by colours and textures and have been from a very early age.

I really wanted to use a cream dotcom and check out her webblusher to gently shade the site www.lisaeldridge.com.

Eyes For Kate’s eyes I used the Christian Dior palette in Elegant using the deeper browns to shade the socket and along the outer lash line top and bottom. I then used the lighter shimmering peachy gold shades on the lid and at the inner corner top and bottom.

Brows were defined using Mac eyebrow pencil in linger-

ing.

Kates lashes were curled with shu Uemura curlers and a good layer of No7 Extreme Length mascara in black applied top and bottom.

Lips Lips were prepped at this stage with Crème de la Mer lip balm.

Finally lips were dabbed lightly with Revlon sheer matte lipstick in Nude Attitude. I wanted a natural, non-glossy finish to the lips to contrast with the dewy texture of the skin

Lash Flash ance concealer in shade 11 and then a little Laura Mercier Secret Camouflage around the sides of the nose and on any minor blemishes.

I powdered just on the t-zone Face for a velvety finish.

three different lengths of the Ardell knot free individual lashes for this look. Starting with 3 short ones at the inner corner, then 3 medium lengths and finishing with 2 long ones at the outer corner to create a graduated effect.

I applied the lashes using Duo waterproof glue in Dark.

The brows were defined just at the arch using Mac brow pencil in Lingering.

Lips For the finishing touch of a nude lips, I applied a nice thin layer of Givenchy lipstick in Voluptuous Nude applied with a Paula Dorff Lip brush and worked well into the lips for a sheerer finish. I wanted a finish on the lips that had a slight sheen and shimmer but at the same time looked very natural and not too glossy.

I am going to go for fresh colours like lime, mustard and tomato.

Red lips, bright orange red not cherry red, too dark and sultry for a bright spring day.

I don't really have one, I tend not to shop in collections, just whatever takes my fancy!

I am eagerly anticipating an Urban Decay Palette themed around Alice in Wonderland. I am also keen to try a Jelly Pong Pong Gel cheek stain for a quick spring flush rather than a summery glow.

One of the main trends for this spring is definitely corals, which I’m very happy about cos I love them. They give a nice and youthful pop of color to the face without looking too crazy or over-the-top. They’re easy to wear on the cheeks and lips and look good on everyone. That’s a difficult question! I like several things from almost every collection, but if I have to pick one then I’d say Dior. I’m not usually a big fan of the brand but I love the Dentelle Spring Collection. The lace pattern that embellishes most of the products from the collection

is beautiful and the colors aren’t too pastel and perfect for spring. I’m also digging the Paul & Joe Alice in Wonderland collection. The packaging alone is enough to make me drool!

For me, the main trends will be; PASTEL - Nail and eyes especially, as seen in the majority of nail collections, ranging from Illamasqua to Essie and Mavala, there have also been pastel hued eye palettes released by Dior and Clinique...

NUDE NAILS - the recent Michael Kors/Estee Lauder Verry Hollywood collection contained an amazing nude polish (hollywood gold), and Chanel's Particuliere shade has also been a major hit. Its likely that many more wearable nudes will now be produced.

OPI of course started the ball rolling a LONG time ago with "You Don't Know Jaques". The "Mannequin Hand trend is sweeping blog world at the moment and so is likely to become a trend as well...

BRIGHTS - a little predictable, but the end of winter always means a welcome release from dark days and muted colours. It just always seems the right time of the year to celebrate colour.

Bright lips with a fifties liner flick on the eye, colourful smoky eyes and bright cheeks (although not necessarily at the same time!) will be big for me.

Often the focus is on pinks but there seems to be a big interest in coral shades right now. There also seems to be a resurgence of fresh vintage looks - in modern finishes in bright hues on the lips, with well prepped skin and simple eye makeup.
