HARLEM COMMUNITY NEWSPAPERS

Thanking Our Healthcare Heroes at Queens Hospitals

From the Desk of Queens Borough President Donovan Richards

More than 95,000 Queens residents have contracted COVID-19, including more than 6,000 friends, neighbors and loved ones whom we’ve lost to this terrible virus. With cases on the rise, I had the honor of visiting NYC Health + Hospitals/ Elmhurst in Elmhurst, NYC Health + Hospitals/Queens in Jamaica and St. John’s Episcopal Hospital in Far Rockaway last week to thank our frontline healthcare heroes and discuss each facility’s plans to address a possible surge in COVID-19 patients in weeks ahead.

With the pandemic continuing to upend lives and livelihoods, expanding and enhancing health care will be the top priority of my administration. We not only owe it to the frontline workers who have saved countless lives throughout this crisis, we owe it to our historically underserved Queens communities — especially communities of color — that have been hardest hit by COVID-19.
