Man sentenced to 20 years for child sex abuse From Staff Reports news@clantonadvertiser.com

A Clanton man was sentenced Tuesday to 20 years in the Alabama Department

of Corrections on sodomy and child sex abuse charges. Joshua Cole Cleckler, 22, was sentenced by Chilton County Circuit Judge John B. Bush to 20 years in prison for

two counts of sodomy in the first degree and one count of sexual abuse of a child less than 12, according to court documents. Cleckler was arrested in January 2014 and in-

dicted by an August 2014 grand jury. The victim in the case was 3 years old at the time the abuse occurred at residences near the Hinkle Road area of Chilton County

and on Second Avenue S. in Clanton, according to a press release from the 19th Circuit District Attorney’s Office. According to the senSee ABUSE, Page 6

 EVENTS Nov. 28: LifeSouth Community Blood Centers Inc. will host a blood drive at the Walmart in Clanton from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. Nov. 29: Lime Springs United Methodist Church will host The Dixie Echoes from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. The Dixie Echoes will be worshipping with the congregation at the 11 a.m. service. A sandwich lunch will served at noon, with the singing to begin at 12:30 p.m. Everyone is invited to kick off the Advent season with a great day of praise, singing, worship, and fellowship. Dec. 3: The Clanton Christmas Tree Lighting will be held from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Downtown Corner Park located at Second Ave. N. and Sixth St. The emcee will be Sally Pitts. There will be live entertainment. The event is sponsored by the city of Clanton. Santa and Mrs. Claus are expected to arrive at 5 p.m.

Cahaba Medical Care opened its new location in Maplesville on Nov. 9, and has offered a sense of relief among the community in just a matter of weeks. “We’ve only been opened three weeks, and with every week we’ve gotten more and more patients,” Cahaba Medical Care Family Nurse Practitioner Christy Hunter said. “It has just taken some time to get our name out there.” Dr. John B. Waits founded Cahaba Medical Care in 2002 with the main location in Centreville. He formed the practice under the idea of providing for smaller rural communities. The goal of the outfit is to not turn anyone down in need of medical assistance. They hope to ensure the health of the town for years to come. “It doesn’t matter if

Above and beyond the call of duty CARE Ambulance employees nominated for prestigious award By Ashley Burks Special to the Advertiser

Two CARE Ambulance employees were awarded with Quarterly Employee Awards on Nov. 20, but the recognition is not stopping there. Michelle Glass, a paramedic, and Mitchell Keener, an EMT, have also been nominated for the Sophus Falck Award for going above and beyond the call of duty after an Oct. 18 incident in Clanton. Dec. 4: The Rotary Club of Chilton County will host Clanton’s annual Christmas parade. The parade will start with a competition of the floats at 5 p.m. The first-prize winner will receive $150, second place $100 and third place $50. For those wanting to participate in the parade, registration forms can be picked up at Clanton City Hall (500 Second Ave. N.) or The Clanton Advertiser (1109 Seventh St. N.). The Rotary Club has made the registration form available online. Just visit their Facebook page at “Rotary Club of Chilton County” for details. Those who have already submitted a registration form are being asked to submit it again, as there was a glitch in the software that prevented it from processing. The deadline for registration is Nov. 28. If submitted after that date, there will be a late filing fee of $25. The Christmas parade will begin at 6 p.m. and will be full of floats and entertainment, including a special appearance by Santa Claus. Civic groups, churches, schools, local citizens and even horse riding clubs will also take part in the fun. The grand marshal of the parade will be Judge Sibley Reynolds. Dec. 5: The Thorsby Christmas Parade will be held beginning at 9 a.m. Line up will be at 8:30 a.m. at 345 Montgomery Ave. in Thorsby. Parade applications are at Town Hall in Thorsby. The cut off date to be in the parade is Dec. 4. Dec. 5: The Jemison Christmas Parade will be held at 11 a.m. The parade will being at the north entrance of Jemison High School and will travel south along U.S. Highway 31.
