We are Muslims,Christians, Jewish,Hindus, Atheist whoever we are we need to consider our self as part of whole human society. We always need to consider things as whole together as we doing whatever we are doing or taking decisions or any actions otherwise issues and problems arise anywhere anytime. It is so silly to carry enmity against each other just because of religions, races, origin etc while we all know we broken in pieces all over the places at all the time we are not in one place to stay in at all the times, since then we are all moving around and getting shapes and colors so believe accordingly why we can not love each other and live in peace and serenity. It is same way in this county in United States of America you will see African, chines,Turkish, Greek, Arab so on all nations can live in one continent together but why cant we live other parts of the world? We are human being can not hate each other nor can blame cultures and nations or religions alone. We can criticize or have issues only with

policies, agendas, people who running governments and or ideological self centered systems which effects and damages us as whole or partially. We can not hate America, Western nations or Eastern Nation as whole as country or nations or people but we can have issues with people running the governments. We also can only challenge with the system staying in rules and laws binding us as whole in society. We need to challenge with those systems are unfair and not acceptable to us within the rules of the game this would be either to be in politics or public advocate or so on while we are doing that there are always be challenges with some people leading those powers would challenge with us, isn’t life with full of challenges? Without challenges or difficulties would our struggles be meaningful? It was a balmy evening in northern Florida as we sat listening with bated breath. My college roommate, his girlfriend and I staring anxiously slopped atop overly sugared and carbonated foodstuffs gleaning as the final tallies came in. The marathoned announcer attempting to fill the dead air with idle banter at the what-if scenarios and the long lasting effects of that momentous occasion. Then the winner was announced, Barrack Huseyin Obama in November of 2008 became the 44th President of the United States. The massive apartment complex came alive with shouts, car horns, and fireworks that rivaled the Fourth of July. A lot of promises were made that election year. Words like hope and change became the strong overtones that lay across every conversation, but could this one term senator deliver on his somewhat vague and grandiose claims? Looking back at that year from today the track record is quite clear, but the answer to that question is somewhat of another issue. In the time since he took office our currently not-so-lame duck president has changed much. We now have a semi-universal healthcare initiative, greater civil liberties, a slower worldwide nuclear proliferation, and an ever strengthening economy and global stance. Since the president took office we have seen the quality of life slowly rise from the muck of the greatest recession this country has ever seen but is today what we
hoped for? Are the changes we have today what we wanted or needed? In 2008 the U.S. was a war dogged country, both abroad and at home. A staggering 10 percent of the country was unemployed, 30

For the first time “America’s youth” would earn less in their life times than their parents. The war waged in the beginning of the millennium had dragged on and thousands of are troops were station far abroad. 2008 was a far cry from the lush 1990’s, were the pursuit of happiness was just underneath the pursuit of stuff. Leisure was a god given right. With the advent of the early 2000’s, the bubble that the U.S. had built itself on had burst and neither Bush nor bailout could sway the tide or sentiment. This country needed change. Not the kind that would cause history to repeat itself, the kind that would move us forward. The political arena surrounded this idea from left to right as each side galvanized behind their respective
monied opponents and counterparts. A “community builder” who made promises he vowed to keep. He vowed to end the war, cut the spending, and stick up for the little guys, business and citizen alike. In his words he laid a path not just to a recovery but a future secured for all. He had a massive job on his hands. Has it been accomplished though? Obama has had many agendas across his two term and most would say that he has meet them all, but with varying levels of success. He began a troop drawdown, as promised, however with the deterioration of the region, a complete withdrawals seems less and less likely. He increased the job rates and unemployment has dropped to below 5 percent but the poverty gap is still as big as it has ever been. Most U.S. Citizens now have access to affordable healthcare, but with commercial

you. Although his healthcare initiatives may be falling short he gave the opportunity for millions of Americans to heal themselves, a right they now demand. There are more jobs than there were 16 years ago and even though the divide between rich and poor is immense, broad sweeping changes like minimum wage hikes are being demand for and given across the country. There may still be thousand of troops over seas but the country is much more critical of military spending and foreign interference. Citizens greater civil liberties the likes of which were once hoped for but are now expected. His lead has given birth to a new American consciousness. The truth in what he has achieved is a change in the mind set of Americans citizens. The lavishness of the 90’s and fear of the 00’s has given way to precisely what he promised hope. No one can really predict what the future holds for the lives of the U.S. Citizen. We still face many of those chestnut woes, and there will probably always be those who will say, mistaking or purposefully that change is a step in the wrong direction. “China’s Population Growth”
“Saudi Arabia Economy”
“Saudi Arabia is raising $10bn from a consortium of global banks as the kingdom embarks on its first international debt issuance in 25 years to counter dwindling oil revenues and reserves. The landmark five-year loan, a signal of Riyadh’s newfound dependence on foreign capital, opens the way for Saudi to launch its first international bond issue. It comes as the sustained slump in crude encourages other Gulf governments, such as Abu Dhabi, Qatar and Oman, to tap international bond markets. The oil-rich kingdom, which last weekend blocked a potential deal among oil producers to freeze output and bolster prices, has burnt through $150bn in financial reserves since late 2014 as its fiscal deficit is set to widen to 19 per cent of gross domestic product this year. Strong interest in the loan, especially from Asian banks, came despite rating agency downgrades on Saudi creditworthiness since the oil price collapsed. The government raised the amount it wanted to borrow from $6bn-$8bn to $10bn after the deal was oversubscribed.” (Source: CNBC)

“China’s mainland population reached 1.373 billion at the beginning of November, up 33.77 million since the last census was held in 2010, the statistics bureau said in estimates published on Wednesday. China’s urban population reached 767.5 million, amounting to 55.88 percent of the total and up 6.2 percentage points since 2010, the National Bureau of Statistics said on its website (www.stats.gov.cn). China’s population is set to peak at about 1.45 billion by 2050 when one in every three is expected to be more than 60, with a shrinking proportion of working adults to support them. Beijing announced last year that it would relax a controversial one-child policy launched in the late 1970s and allow all couples to have two children in an effort to redress the imbalance.
EARTHQUAKE IN ECUADOR
“A fresh tremor rattled Ecuador before dawn Wednesday morning, a 6.1 magnitude jolt that was the strongest aftershock since a lethal earthquake killed hundreds of people. There was no immediate report of further damage. The U.S. Geological Survey said the tremor was
centered offshore, 15 miles west of the devastated beach town of Muisne, at 3:33 a.m. local time. The previous strongest aftershock following Saturday’s magnitude 7.8 earthquake was magnitude 5.7. The aftershock came after Ecuadoreans began burying loved ones, with hopes fad-
ing that more survivors will be found. In the small town of Montecristi, near the port city of Manta, two children were among those buried Tuesday. They were killed with their mother while buying school supplies when the magnitude-7.8 quake struck Saturday night.
LABOR CONDITION: INDIA “Global retailers’ efforts to clean supply chains of slave labor and improve labor conditions will have little impact unless consumers in India, Asia’s third-largest economy, demand more ethically produced goods, industry experts said. India is among the largest manufacturers of textiles and apparel in the world, supplying leading international brands. In and around the southern city of Bengaluru alone, there are some 1,200 garment factories making apparel for global brands. But it is estimated that the domestic market accounts for more than 40 percent of the industry’s revenue.
Hundreds of small and medium-sized enterprises use forced labor and treat workers poorly, with abuses ranging from withheld salaries to debt bondage, human rights groups say. “The industry has the most invisible supply chain. It is also mostly unorganized, which makes it harder to map and regulate,” said Mona Gupta, a senior official at India’s Apparel Export Promotion Council late on Thursday. “Domestic consumers should raise their voice. If they insist on buying only ethical products, that will bring pressure on manufacturers,” she said at a panel discussion on trafficking and modern

day slavery organized by the Thomson Reuters Foundation and the Asia Society in Mumbai. Panelists pointed to the example of Apple Inc., which tackled poor wages and working conditions at the factories of its partner Foxconn in China after criticism from consumers among others. Estimates of the number of people trapped in forced labor vary. The International Labour Organization says 21 million people are victims of forced labor globally, while the Global Slavery Index says there are 36 million slaves in the world, half of them in India.
The funeral had to be held outside under a makeshift awning, because the town’s Roman Catholic Church was unsafe from structural damage. Family members wailed loudly and one man fainted as the children were laid to rest in an above-ground vault. Scenes of mourning multiplied all along Ecuador’s normally placid Pacific coastline, where the tremor flattened towns and killed hundreds. Funeral homes are running out of caskets to accommodate so many casualties, and local governments are paying to bring in caskets from other cities. The National Prosecutors Office put the death toll at 525 on Wednesday — up from a previous official toll of 507 — but officials expected more bodies to be found, with the Defense Department reporting Tuesday that more than 200 people were still missing.” (Source: Fox News)
The conditions of garment workers in South Asia have come under sharp scrutiny following the 2013 Rana Plaza disaster in Bangladesh, in which 1,135 workers were killed, many of them employed by suppliers to Western retailers. “Unethical practices in the supply chain must be the responsibility of corporations, but corporations first need to accept the problem exists,” said Dhananjay Tingal, executive director of Bachpan Bachao Andolan (Save the Childhood Movement), which says it has freed more than 85,000 children from various industries.” (Source : Reuters)
EUROZONE!
“Euro zone business activity growth slowed in April, according to the latest survey of the services and manufacturing sectors by Markit which showed a gap between growth in France and Germany’s economies. A flash composite index of services and manufacturing activity in the euro zone fell to 53.0 in April, down from 53.1 in March, Markit said on Friday. The index came in below expectations for a reading of 53.2, according to analysts polled by Reuters. The 50-point mark separates expansion from contraction. “The euro zone continued to show only modest growth in April, according to the latest flash PMI data,” Markit said, adding that the latest index suggested that the pace of economic growth at the start of the second quarter was marginally weaker than the average seen in the first quarter. Commenting on the survey, Chief Economist at Markit Chris Williamson said that the euro zone economy remains “stuck in a low growth rut
with the PMI once again signaling GDP growth of just 0.3 percent at the start of the second quarter, broadly in line with the meager pace of expansion seen now for a full year.” “A failure of business expectations to revive following the ECB’s announcement of more aggressive stimulus in March is a major disappointment and suggests that the modest pace of growth is unlikely to accelerate in coming months.”
Earlier, France and German PMIs showed divergence between the region’s two largest economies. Breaking with tradition, it was France’s turn to see an uptick in composite business activity rather than Germany, which saw a slowdown in business activity growth as a whole despite improved manufacturing performance. Markit’s flash composite PMI for Germany came in at 53.8 in April,

down from 54.0 in March and a 9-month low. Breaking down the figures, services activity came in at 54.6 (down from 55.1 in March) and manufacturing activity climbed to 51.9 (up from 50.7 last month). In France, private sector output rose marginally in April, Markit said, with the composite index rising to 50.5 in April from 50.0 in March although gains in services activity were offset by a drop in France’s manufacturing output index. Howard Archer, chief U.K. and European economist at IHS Global Insight, said “there was little for the ECB to cheer in these services.” “However, the ECB is stressing that patience is needed as its enhanced stimulative measures announced in March are still to be fully enacted and will take time to impact. Slightly good news for the euro zone saw overall input prices rise modestly for the first time since December.” (Source: CNBC)

HIROSHIMA IS VISITED T “ he United States will propose that President Barack Obama visits Hiroshima, Japan’s Nikkei newspaper said on Friday, in what would be the first visit by an incumbent U.S. president to the city devastated by a U.S. nuclear attack 71 years ago. Citing an unidentified senior U.S. government official, the business daily said Washington planned to propose to Tokyo a visit by the president on May 27, at the end of a Group of Seven (G7) summit hosted by Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe. In Washington, a White House official said no decision has been made. Japanese Chief Cabinet Secretary Yoshihide Suga denied the

is a matter for the United States to decide. The (Japanese) government will refrain from comment.” A U.S. warplane dropped the atomic bomb on Hiroshima on Aug. 6, 1945, killing thousands of people instantly and about 140,000 by the end of that year. Nagasaki was bombed on Aug. 9, 1945, and Japan surrendered six days later.
A presidential visit would be controversial in the United States if it were seen as an apology. A majority of Americans view the bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki as justified to end the war and save U.S lives. The vast majority of Japanese think the bombings were unjustified. U.S. Secretary of State John
Kerry said during a visit to the city this month that Obama wanted to travel there, although he did not know if the president’s schedule when he visited Japan for the May 26-27 summit would allow him to. Hiroshima bombing survivors, and other residents, have said they hope for progress in ridding the world of nuclear weapons, rather than an apology, if Obama makes the historic visit. Hopes for Obama’s visit to Hiroshima were raised after a speech in April 2009 in Prague when he called for a world without nuclear weapons. He later said he would be honored to visit the two cities that suffered nuclear attack. Kerry, who toured the Hiroshima Peace Memorial and Museum, called its haunting displays “gut-wrenching” and said everyone should visit. The displays include photographs of badly burned victims, the tattered and stained clothes they wore and statues depicting them with flesh melting from their limbs. ” (Source: Reuters)

ROBOT KINGDOM “Robots have come a long way since the days of cartoon character George Jetson’s “Rosie,” who served as housekeeper and maid and referred to her keeper as “Mr. J.” Last week, researchers at the University of Science and Technology of China, located in Hefei, introduced the world to Jia Jia, a lifelike female robot that dazzled. The team said it took three years to design and complete Jia Jia, who boasts a flexible plastic face, long brown hair, arms that move and eyes that roll naturally. Chen Xiaoping, who served as the team’s director, said that during her design, particular attention was paid to Jia Jia’s eyes, as well as ensuring that her speech was in sync with her lip movements, according to The Independent. “Hello everyone, I’m Jia Jia,” said the robot, as she greeted the crowd, “welcome.”

COMPETITIVE SINGAPORE
“Jennifer Bailey, the vice president of Apple Pay, said credit and debit cards from Singapore banks including DBS, UOB and Standard Chartered would work with Apple Play in the coming months. The service had previously been launched in the U.S., China, UK, Canada and Australia. A day after Apple’s announcement, South Korean electronics giantSamsung said Singapore would be the first country in Southeast Asia to receive its mobile payment system, Samsung Pay. The company said the service would launch this quarter, without giving a specific date. Once available, the city-state will join the likes of South Korea, the U.S. and China, where the service is already up and running. In February, Samsung said its mobile payment service had about 5 million registered users, prior to its launch in China in March. Samsung said that a February survey had showed that interest in the service in Singapore was strong. Of the 400 responses the company received, it said 71 percent were positive. Consumers can use Samsung Pay in most retail outlets that accept credit card payment, using the Galaxy Note 5, Galaxy S6 edge+, Galaxy S7 and S7 edge smartphones, said Samsung. To prepare for the roll out, Samsung said it was providing training for cashiers at partnering retailers and merchants. The company will also allow users to beta-test the service prior to the launch. Samsung
has already confirmed its partnership with MasterCard and Visa, with American Express expected to join up later. Samsung will also partner major banks in Singapore, including DBS/POSB, OCBC Bank and Standard Chartered. But even with Singapore’s phenomenal mobile penetration rate, analysts believe the uptake of both Apple and
Samsung’s mobile payment services may be disappointing. Data from the Infocomm Development Authority of Singapore showed the city-state had a mobile phone penetration rate of 148.4 percent in 2015. “I think that consumer adoption of both Apple Pay and Samsung Pay will be slower than expected in Singapore,” a researcher at Forrester, Zhi Ying Ng, told CNBC. Ng said while the use of contactless card payments was increasing
in Singapore, and consumers were becoming more comfortable with the technology, it would take time for them to realize the additional value that digital wallets brought in terms of simplicity, security and experience.International Data Corporation’s (IDC) senior market analyst Michael Yeo told CNBC that while mobile payments were “abso-
lutely huge in Asia” with the success of Alipay and WeChat wallet offerings in China, in Singapore, the technology had yet to take off. “There are quite a few systems out there...but there isn’t one which has quite yet made big inroads into the payments scene,” said Yeo. This was largely “due to the siloed nature and incompatibilities between the various payment methods” in Singapore, he added.
Many banks and payment networks already have mobile payment apps, including MasterCard’s MasterPass, Standard Chartered Bank and SingTel’s Dash, DBS’s PayLah! and OCBC’s Pay Anyone. Kiranjeet Kaur, a research manager at IDC, added that Apple had a slight advantage over Samsung because, of the Samsung phones shipped in 2015, only half supported Samsung Pay, while Apple shipped most iPhone 6 models that are Apple Pay-enabled. Both Yeo and Kaur said the limitation Apple Pay faced in Singapore was that it is currently limited to American Express cardholders, but once the service was extended to other banks, Yeo said he expected to see Apple Pay take “close to 20 percent of payments that are made through NFC terminals in Singapore by the end of the year.” NFC refers to near field communication, the technology that allows two devices, such as a smartphone and a payment terminal, to communicate by putting them near each other.” (Source: CNBC)
W “ hile the technology to simulate conversation with a computer has been around for decades, bots — or c “ hatbots” — are an increasingly trendy model for software. This new obsession came on fast. But why? Where did these bots come from? Who is building them? What for? Is a fake conversation better than just clicking buttons? You’ll be hearing a lot more about bots soon, so here’s an overview. A bot is software that is designed to automate the kinds of tasks you would usually do on your own, like making a dinner reservation, adding an appointment to your calendar or fetching and displaying information. The increasingly common form of bots, chatbots, simulate
BOTS that allows you to order and pay for tacos through an automated chat conversation. Chatbots already exist in many of the places where you communicate, primarily messaging apps, which lend themselves to a conversational interface. There are bots in Slack, the business-focused messaging service, many of which aim to help with work-related tasks like expenses or to-do lists.
One key reason: The technology that powers bots, artificial intelligence software, is improving dramatically, thanks to heightened interest from key Silicon Valley powers like Facebook and Google. That AI enables computers to process language — and actually converse with humans — in ways they never could before. It came about from unprecedented advancements in software

cally to two million daily users, which bot makers and investors see as a potentially lucrative market. It helps that messaging is seen as a fresh opportunity, especially for interacting with a corporation in the same personal space you’d normally interact with a friend. “The chat space is sort of the last unpolluted space [on your phone],” said Sam Mandel, who works at the startup studio Betaworks and is also building a weather bot for Slack called Poncho. “It’s like the National Park of people’s online experience. Right now, the way people use chat services, it’s really a good private space that you control.” (That, of course, could quickly go

conversation. They often live inside messaging apps — or are at least designed to look that way — and it should feel like you’re chatting back and forth as you would with a human. Some bots are used to handle a variety of customer service requests, which would normally require a telephone call to a human agent. One example: Taco Bell has released a bot
Kik Messenger, which has 275 million registered users, recently announced a bot store. This includes one bot to send people Vine videos and another for getting makeup suggestions from Sephora. Twitter has had bots for years, like this bot that tweets about earthquakes as soon as they’re registered or a Domino’s bot that allows you to order a pizza by tweeting a pizza emoji.
(Google’s Go-beating program, for example) and hardware capabilities. Another reason is that Facebook, which has 900 million Messenger users, is expected to get into bots. Many see this as a big potential opportunity; where Facebook goes, the rest of the industry often follows. Slack, which lends itself to bot-based services, has also grown dramati-
sour if early implementations are too spammy or useless. You might also argue that the increasing use of consumer technology has made people impatient, especially when it comes to customer service. Social media helped streamline those conversations, and now bots can automate them.” (Source: CNBC)

SOCIAL MEDIA SCAMS
O “ ver the past year, the number of phishing attempts on social media networks like Facebook (FB, Tech30), Twitter (TWTR, Tech30), Instagram and LinkedIn (LNKD, Tech30) has exploded 150%, experts at security firm Proofpoint (PFPT) say. That’s because fraudsters can use social media to target hundreds of thousands of people at once, but also blend in with the crowd. They mimic users and their activities, and they take advantage of the way people use social media to deal with business problems. Fake customer accounts: Online criminals set up fake customer service accounts to phish for bank login and password information and other sensitive data. These imposter accounts
look very similar to that of real businesses, but are often one character off -- or they include an extra underscore or other keyboard character. Fake comments: A popular news story or social media post might generate a lot of comments. Fraudsters like to take advantage of that large audience by adding their own comments with links to other buzzy headlines that lead to credit card phishing scams. Fake videos: As more media companies start streaming their shows and movies online, scammers are jumping on the bandwagon. They do things like comment on the Facebook page of a sports team with a link that leads people to believe they can watch a free live stream of a game. But the links lead to a fake website that asks for personal information in order to start the video, which very often doesn’t exist. Fake online discounts: Fake online discounts work similarly to fake customer service accounts. Schemers will set up social media accounts that look like legit businesses, then pretend to offer a real promotion. In reality, they want to trick people into giving up their personal information.
REANDE VERECTION: These tactics have been around for years and are designed to get answers to personal questions that fraudsters can mine and sell later. But criminals
embed them into social media posts that often look legit because there’s a normal looking profile picture and link, thanks to URL shorteners.

Forty percent of the factory’s output is exported to the United States, Germany, Holland, Italy, Iceland and United Arab Emirates. SARAR Home Textile Plant is established in Eskisehir in October, 2005. Turkey, known in the global market on home textile, has an important power. This power will increase by making investments on this sector. SARARs goal is to sell products in the ratio of 50 percent to internal market and 50 percent to outside market and to be in the first three. SARAR plans to make the export ratio 80 percent by the year 2010.

ALONE AND LONELY: BE CAREFUL! Loneliness and social isolation can impact a person’s health, causing problems ranging from high blood pressure and being overweight to cognitive decline and even an increased risk of dying at a young age. New research has now put a number on how this can affect someone’s risk of heart disease and stroke specifically. Researchers at the University of York found that people who are isolated – meaning they have few social connections –or feel

lonely have a 29% higher risk of having heart disease and 32% higher risk of having a stroke when compared with their peers who were either well connected or at least felt like they were well-connected. To arrive at these numbers, researchers combined data from 23 studies that altogether included more than 180,000 adults living in high-income countries in North America, Europe, Asia and Australia. The studies had assessed the level of isolation and loneliness among the participants and monitored them for between three and 21 years to see whether they developed heart diseases, such as a heart attack, or suffered a stroke. Loneliness increases risk of death, research finds In most cases, it was participants’ first heart attack or stroke. “We know from other studies ... that people who are lonely or isolated are less likely to recover [from illness],” said Nicole K. Valtorta, research fellow in public health, who led the study published Monday in the journal Heart. “From our study, we are saying it is not just about people who are already sick, but prior to that they might be at risk of developing disease,” she said.
The next time you’re packing for a trip, you might want to reach for your brightest-colored luggage. It could help keep bedbugs away. A new study finds that bedbugs – just like flies and other insects – have favorite colors. They really like dark red and black, and they shun dazzling white and bright yellow. Researchers placed bedbugs in Petri dishes that contained little bug-sized tents made of different colored paper. The bugs quickly crawled to the shelter, just as you would expect for insects that spend 90% of their lives hiding in cracks and crevices. But when given the chance, they gravitated toward the tents that were black and red instead of the white, yellow or green shelters. “We joked that we are all going to buy bright yellow luggage bags because the bedbugs seem not to prefer them, or not to prefer laying eggs on them,” said Roberto Pereira, an urban entomology research scientist at the University of Florida. Pereira was part of the team that carried out the research, which was published Monday in the Journal of Medical Entomology. One of the most common ways to get bedbugs is when you stay at a hotel that has an infestation, and the insects or a few of their eggs hitch a ride home with you on your bag, Pereira said. Sunny-colored suitcases could help prevent that, although bedbugs might still be able to find dark folds in the fabric in which to stow away, he added. Before you invest in a new set of luggage, there are probably better ways to keep bedbugs out of your home, said Dawn Gouge, an associate professor of urban entomology at the University of Arizona, who was not involved in the new research. Gouge
uses suitcases with hard exteriors and encourages “absolutely everyone to never bring luggage into their bedroom or onto a couch in the first place, and if they have an outdoor storage area (like a garage) where they can pack and unpack, that’s the way to go.” Although Gouge checks her hotel rooms for signs of bedbugs – one is reddish stains on sheets – she noted that fewer than 1% of hotels and motels probably have them, and an infestation is sometimes hard to spot. These apple seed-sized insects probably instinctively prefer black and red shelters over white and yellow ones because they offer better protection from predators such as ants and spiders, Pereira said. Bedbugs might also gravitate to black and red shelters because they mistake the colors for fellow bedbugs, and they generally like to stick together for protection. Yet another reason could be that bright colors make the insects more exposed to light, and “the more exposed these insects are, the more they lose water, and if they lose too
much, they will die or have to feed again,” Pereira said. There were some cases in which bedbugs did not display their usual aversion to light colors. For example, the littlest of bedbug babies, the ones in what is called the first instar of development, did not have any color preference when they crawled toward a paper tent, although more mature nymphs did prefer the dark shelters. This behavior could be because the less mature bedbug nymphs have not developed the eyesight needed to distinguish between white, black and the rainbow of colors, Pereira said. However, Gouge suggested an alternative possibility: These babies are transparent, not having started feasting on the blood that makes their bodies red, brown or almost black. As a result, they can crawl onto any surface and be camouflaged, no matter what color it is. (Source:CNN)

HISPANIC LONG LIFE H “ ispanics have the longest life expectancy rates in the U.S., a new study found. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention found that life expectancy rates for Latinos in 2014 were the highest out of any group studied — at 84 for Hispanic women and more than 79 for men. Black Americans were lowest, at about 78 for women about and 72 for men, while for white men it was 76½ years and white women lost about five weeks from their predicted lifespan in 2014. The CDC previously reported that the life expectancy for all Americans born in 2014 was 78 years and 9½ months— the same prediction made for the previous two years. Wednesday’s report gives
ALLERGY: NEW FEAR E “ verybody knows somebody with an allergy to pollen, dust, pet dander, or peanuts (maybe you even have one of these common ailments yourself). But you may be surprised about some of the lesser known materials, foods, or environments that an cause allergic reactions in certain people. An allergic reaction occurs when the body misreads something that’s typically harmless as being dangerous, explains Kevin McGrath, MD, spokesperson for the American College of Allergy, Asthma, and Immunology. “The immune system creates special white blood cells, called antibodies, to defend against this apparent threat similarly to how it would fight an infection or illness,” he says. (That’s where symptoms like swelling, itching, runny nose, and wheezing come in.) People must be born with a genetic predisposition to allergies, but scientists don’t know exactly why or how they become allergic to specific things. And while many allergens are quite common, others are much rarer. Here are some of the more interesting cases allergens have seen in their practice, and what you can do if you’re affected.” (Source: CNN)

Some recent reports have shown rising suicide and drug overdose death rates for white women — particularly middle-aged ones. U.S. health officials come up with life expectancy figures each year by looking at how old people were when they died and the cause of death. They use statistical modeling to predict how long people born today will live if current trends continue. Life expectancies generally have been climbing, but they do sometimes dip. W “ hen it comes to health and fitness, some technology that’s meant to help you actually could be hurting your progress. Fitness trackers, part of the booming wearables market, have caught fire with the health conscious and boosted the fortunes of their manufacturers. In 2014, worldwide consumer spending on health and fitness services clocked in at over $200 billion, with wearable devices capturing a growing percentage, said analyst Jim Duffy at Stifel. Duffy noted that Fitbit alone had sales of $1.8 billion last year, and that the company expects revenue in excess of $2 billion for this year. Still, at least a few experts say the trend in some ways may be counterproductive. When it comes to fitness tech, “You need to ask: Am I in effect adding stress when the goal is to reduce it?” psychologist Michael Woodward said. “If you spend as much time tracking your activity as you do actually engaged in the activity, that is probably going to hurt your progress. “ Wearable fitness tech and apps can help wearers change bad habits — as long as they don’t burn out, said Dr. Steven C. Garner, New York Methodist Hospital’s chairman of radiology.
“If it leads to more awareness of what you’re eating and your physical condition then that’s good,” Garner said. “But I find some people become too committed [to the tech] and then this becomes an overriding part of their life.” Some users benefit from apps because they provide a routine, but that they’re “not a magic wand” to make you healthy, Garner said. He added that trackers should be used along with advice from a doctor. He also warns the tech is not always completely accurate, and can sometimes be confusing for users.
“The best form of exercise is walking at a pace where you can talk,” Garner said, explaining that walking 15 minutes after eating is the best time to exercise. Joining a fitness group, like Weight Watchers, may be better for some, Celebrity trainer and fitness coach Jillian Michaels, who has a health and fitness app of her own, told CNBC’s last year. The structure of regular meetings and a sense of belonging may be more beneficial to some people, she added. As wearables rise in acceptance, more companies are now offering health programs as part
of company culture. A study by Future Workplace and Staples Business Advantage shows 37 percent of companies encourage or provide wearable devices at work for tracking health, wellness and productivity. The study found that companies are encouraging tech use because healthier employees use fewer sick days and are more productive overall. Still, Woodward, the psychologist, warns to be cautious of multi-tasking too much with tech. “Bottom line, track in moderation,” he said. “Don’t let the act of tracking dominate your health strategy.” (Source: CNBC)
ZIKA IS STILL HERE! T “ ravel restrictions are not needed within the continental United States for pregnant women out of concerns about the mosquito-born Zika virus, National Institutes of Health disease expert Dr. Anthony Fauci told CNBC on Monday. “There’s no local transmission ... of the virus in the continental United States,” he said in a “Squawk Box” interview. However, he said there have been local cases in Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands, and American Samoa, in addition to South and Central America.
“To tell someone not to travel within the continental United States is not true,” Fauci said in response to reports that some doctors may be telling pregnant women not to go to places where mosquitoes are prevalent. Last week, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said it definitively concluded that an infection of the Zika virus in pregnant women causes of the birth defect microcephaly and other severe brain abnormalities in babies. “As we get into the summer months when there will be more robust mosquito involvement [in the U.S.], mosquito control
becomes again becomes a very important issue,” said Fauci, director of the NIH’s National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases. He said people in the continental U.S. should not be worried but should be “prepared” by using insect repellent and covering up.” (Source: CNBC)

PRINCE: THE KING A “ fter the passing of yet another legendary creative artist, people from around the globe have been paying tribute to pop musician Prince. While many celebrities, fans and leading political figures paid homage to the influential singer; a number of brands also paid their respects. However, as social media has learned recently with the passing of David Bowie, brands have to tread carefully to make sure they don’t cause offense. For companies who did pay their respects, purple-themed posts and famous lyrics by the singer, were popular as a way of celebrating his work. Here are just a few.
General Mills, manufacturer of Cheerios, issued a statement sent to CNBC that said it was removed out of respect for Prince and those mourning, but the tweet was to pay respects to a fellow resident of Minnesota. “As a Minnesota brand, Cheerios wanted to acknowledge the loss of a musical legend in our hometown. But we quickly decided that we didn’t want the tweet to be misinterpreted, and removed it out of respect for Prince and those mourning,” Mike Siemienas, manager of brand media relations at General Mills, said. Other brands have also received mixed reviews from social media

users, including manufacturer 3M; bourbon whisky brand Maker’s Mark; and Hamburger Helper, with the latter having since deleted its Twitter post. When it comes to tributes, it can become quite easy for brands to face criticism, Professor Christian Fuchs, director of the Westminster Institute for Advanced Studies, explains. “When a celebrity such as Prince or David Bowie dies, all public and social media attention is for a couple of days on this event. Brands should refrain from making social media announcements mourning such tragic deaths,” Fuchs told CNBC via email.

“They can easily face criticism that the impression is created they take advantage of public attention for commercial reasons.” “Death and the logic of commerce do not belong together. The end of a person’s life is always tragic and such a loss should never be turned into an advertising spectacle,” Fuchs added. Prince passed away at his Paisley Park residence on Thursday morning, his publicist confirmed in a statement. “Bonds valued at up to $1.5 billion would be issued under Mayor Rahm Emanuel’s proposal to bring a museum, proposed by “Star Wars” filmmaker George Lucas, to Chicago, the city said on Monday. The museum will feature Lucas’ collection of paintings, illustrations and digital art. The bonds would be issued by the Metropolitan Pier and Exposition Authority for the museum and the replacement of a big part of its McCormick Place convention center that would be razed for the project. Lucas would contribute $743 million to the authority for the museum. The financing plan also calls for the extension of taxes and millions of dollars from the state of Illinois, which is also low on revenue. A spokeswoman for Governor Bruce Rauner said the proposal is under review. The mayor offered the McCormick Place site for the museum after a parks protection group filed a lawsuit over the original lakefront site near Soldier Field, the home of the Chicago Bears football team, stalling the project. “(Source Reuters)
W “ hen Carnival Corp. announced plans for a cruise ship from its Fathom line to sail from Miami to Havana in May, Francisco Marty jumped at the opportunity to surprise his kids with a trip back to their native land. But Marty, who’s cruised so many times that he’s a Platinum VIP in the company’s rewards program, was shocked when a representative told him he couldn’t go on the inaugural trip because of where he was born: Cuba. Now, as travelers get their bags ready for the first cruise to Cuba in more than 50 years, Marty is part of a new class-action lawsuit claiming that Carnival is discriminating against CubanAmericans looking to travel to their homeland. The lawsuit, filed by Marty and fellow traveler Amparo Sanchez, alleges that the company is violating federal civil rights laws and discriminating against Cubans by denying them tickets.
A spokesperson for Carnival responded to the lawsuit in a statement, writing, “This is not a decision by our Fathom brand, but rather a Cuba decision.” The statement cites a Cold War-era Cuban law that does not allow Cuban-born individuals to enter the country by ships, only via plane. Carnival said the company has requested a change in the law and has been working with the Cuban government on the issue for months. On Monday, the cruise line reversed course and announced it will accept bookings on its Fathom line from all travelers to Cuba, regardless of their country of origin. The company said it’s asking the Cuban government that travel on its ships be treated the same as air charters to Cuba and remains confident its negotiations “will result in a positive outcome for everyone who wants to travel to Cuba, including those who are Cuba-born.” (Source : CNN)

CERVANTES LIVED 400 YEARS AGO Spain is commemorating the 400th anniversary of the death of its best-known writer, Miguel de Cervantes Events are planned throughout the country on Saturday celebrating the author of “Don Quixote,” one of the most influential books in world literature and a work generally regarded as the precursor of the modern novel. In Alcala de Henares, Cervantes’ birthplace, King Felipe VI honored Mexican author
Fernando del Paso with the Cervantes Prize and Spain’s Culture Minister Inigo Mendez highlighted his “contribution to the development of the novel, combining tradition and modernity, as Cervantes did.” The Cervantes award is handed out each year on April 23, which coincides with UNESCO’s World Book Day to promote literature and commemorate Cervantes and English author William Shakespeare, who both died on that date in 1616. COINS IN FOUNTAIN The Trevi fountain in Rome has had a longstanding tradition: if you stand with
“Indoor air pollution may be as much or more of a problem as pollution outdoors, according to new research. Smoke, fungal spores, and chemicals used in certain paints, varnishes and cleaners have been shown to be harmful to human health, and yet indoor air quality is not as well understood as pollution outdoors, according to a study published in the journal Science of the Total Environment. W “ hen we think of the term a ‘ ir pollution,’ we tend to think of car exhausts or factory fumes expelling gray smoke,” said study co-author Prashant Kumar of the University of Surrey. “However, there are actually various sources of pollution that have a negative effect on air quality, many of which are found inside our homes and offices. From cooking residue to paints, varnishes and fungal spores, the air we breathe indoors is often more polluted than that outside.”
The team of scientists from Australia and Europe that wrote the paper is calling for greater efforts to monitor indoor air pollutants in real time, saying that doing so could bring serious health benefits. Environmental sensors have become relatively cheap and don’t require much energy. It would not be difficult to begin placing them inside buildings to monitor air quality, the researchers noted in their study. Those who live in cities spend up to 90 percent of their time indoors — most of the air they are breathing is “indoor air.” Sometimes that air is similar to outdoor air, especially in well-ventilated buildings. But additional pollutants are killing significant numbers of people worldwide. For example, the World Health Organization has said that household cooking with coal or biomass-burning
stoves led to 4.3 million deaths in 2012, compared with 3.7 million deaths from outdoor air pollution. Spores from mold are a common problem — particularly in old buildings or humid environments. Kumar’s previous research in the field showed that buildings near traffic intersections had substantially higher levels of pollutants indoors. There is even a phenomenon known as “sick-building syndrome,” where simply spending time in a polluted structure can cause symptoms of sickness. In the study published Wednesday, the researchers said that a wide deployment of sensors could provide critical information. They acknowledge technical challenges — monitoring devices may not be sensitive enough to detect low but harmful concentrations of chemicals, and there are questions about how to handle the massive amounts of data that sensors could collect.” (Source: CNBC)
your back to the fountain and toss a coin over your left shoulder you are guaranteed a return trip to Rome. Each day thousands of people partake in the custom, which equates to approximately $15,000 a week and almost $1 million a year in collected coins. There’s so much build-up, that each day the Roman Catholic charity Caritas takes an hour to sweep the fountain and distributes the money to the needy. They even opened a low-cost supermarket in 2008 from the collection. While the Trevi fountain needs to be cleaned every day, other famous fountains collect their loot every few months. The lake at Las Vegas’ Bellagio, for example, makes about $12,000 a year, and uses a very efficient cleaning system. A giant vacuum is used to remove everything from the floor of the lake. According to the Review Journal, the money is sifted and then placed into a cement mixer with some towels to get the coins clean. Like the Trevi fountain, Bellagio donates the money to nonprofits like Habitat For Humanity. Similarly, the fountains at the Mall of America in Minnesota make about $2,000 a month, which is donated to charities and nonprofits. The fountains at all 24 Rainforest Cafes make about $25,000 a year, which is donated to environmental charities. And the fountains in Disney World raised $18,000 in 2014, all of which was donated to children in foster care. Other interesting fountain intel: The 9/11 Memorial has collected almost $3,000 in change, despite the fact that people are not allowed to toss coins. The fountain at Bryant Park, meanwhile, collects about $3,400 a year, which pretty much just pays for the coin collectors. Interestingly, Chicago’s Buckingham Fountain, one of the largest in the world, only makes about $200 a year. (Soruce: Zergnet)

COREL REEF IN AMAZON RIVER The Amazon River, known for its array of wildlife from pink dolphins to flesh-eating piranhas, has revealed a new treasure – a massive coral reef that stretches for some 600 miles, scientists say. A team of scientists from Brazil and the United States discovered the reef in the muddy waters at the mouth of the Amazon, according to a report published in the journal Science on Friday. The reef system spans 3,600-square miles along the ocean floor, stretching from French Guiana to Brazil’s Maranhao state along the edge of South America’s continental shelf. The finding is surprising because large rivers normally create gaps in reef distribution due to unfavorable conditions such as salinity, pH and light penetration. However, this coral reef system seems to be healthy, according to the report. The carbonate structure, which functions as a waterway passage for fish and other marine life, is home to a big colony of sponges and other creatures that thrive in low-light
waters. The study recorded 73 reef fish species, many of them carnivorous. An international team of scientists from the University of Georgia and the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro was on an expedition to learn more about Amazon River plumes when it made the discovery. Plumes are where the river’s freshwater mixes with the ocean’s saltwater. “Our expedition into the Brazil Exclusive Economic Zone was primarily focused on sampling the mouth of the Amazon,” Patricia Yager, an associate professor with the University of Georgia and principal investigator of the project, said in a statement.
However, Yager also wanted to explore the premise of a scientific article from the 1970s that mentioned a scientist capturing reef fish along the continental shelf, which suggested a coral reef may be somewhere in the area. The search proved fruitful. “We brought up the most amazing and colorful animals I had ever seen on an expedition,” Yager said. The paper details the reef and the variations in its fish, sponges and other marine life along the shelf due to the amount of light in the area and the plume’s movement. The southern part of the reef, which gets more light, has a wide spectrum of reef critters. Further north, as the light diminishes, the wildlife transitions to creatures like sponges. Along with the discovery of the reef, researchers also found evidence suggesting this Amazonian jewel may already be threatened. “From ocean acidification and ocean warming to plans for offshore oil exploration right
on top of these new discoveries, the whole system is at risk from human impacts,” Yager said. News of the extensive reef structure comes as various coral reef systems continue to suffer around the world because of warmer water temperatures and other factors, according to NOAA. A recent report from ARC Centre of Excellence for Coral Reef Studies showed that 90% of the Great Barrier Reef off the coast of Australia is suffering from coral bleaching, which is caused by changes in ocean conditions such as temperature, light or nutrition. This bleaching happens as algae and other organisms living on the structure leave, depriving the coral of its major food source and causing it to turn white. Coral bleaching is considered “the most widespread and conspicuous impact of climate change,” according to the U.N.’s Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change.

FORMULA 1 RULES F “ ormula 1 has been through a turbulent time over the last year or so.There have been rows, stand-offs and threats. At times, the very future of the sport has seemed in doubt. Falling TV audiences and a poisonous atmosphere within the sport have led to the acceptance that something has to change. And now, finally, F1’s bosses are poised to sign off on a set of new regulations that they hope will guarantee a rosier future for the next few years, with faster cars, happier drivers, better racing and less financial strain on smaller teams. The disputes have been about all aspects of the car - chassis, engine and tyres. And they became - and remain - very political. But with the end-of-April deadline for completion looming, a resolution is in sight. The turbo hybrid V6 ‘power-units’ introduced into F1 in 2014 are masterpieces of technology that have produced a revolutionary step forward in the performance of the internal combustion engine. If that sounds
like hyperbole, consider this: until 2013, F1 engines - and pretty much every other petrol engine - had converted fuel-energy into performance at about 29% efficiency. After just over two years of racing in F1, the new turbo hybrids are close to 50% efficiency - and over it when the energy recovery system is on full deployment. The progress is breathtaking - and the technology will soon filter into road cars, with obvious benefits. nBut not everyone is a fan - most notably F1 boss Bernie Ecclestone. The 85-year-old feels the hybrids are too expensive, unnecessarily complex for F1 and sound bad. It didn’t help that having demonstrably the best engine led to Mercedes domination. Last autumn, Ecclestone even threatened to introduce a cheap alternative engine into F1, to run alongside the hybrids under an equivalency formula. There were no prizes for guessing how that formula would be skewed. This standoff led to the manufacturers agreeing with

governing body the FIA in December on four targets: cheaper engines, guaranteed supply, performance convergence and better noise. Over the Chinese Grand Prix last weekend, Red Bull team boss Christian Horner said the manufacturers were “nowhere near” achieving this - and that as a result the alternative engine idea was back on the table. Over the winter, the undercurrent of dissatisfaction with the performance characteristics of Pirelli’s F1 tyres turned into action. Key stakeholders - including drivers - made it clear they felt that tyres on which drivers could not push hard for more than a couple of laps before they overheated and irretrievably lost performance were not appropriate for F1. mPirelli, in a meeting with the FIA, team bosses and seven drivers at its headquarters in Milan in early February, said it could do whatever F1 wanted, but could they please define this formally.” (Source: BBC)

APOLLO & OLYMPICS NBA TEAMS AND FUNS U “ .S. fandom’s love of basketball was borne out in a memorable 2015-16 season that saw a
National Basketball Association star retire on a high note—even as his team finished with the worst record in the league. This past week, as Kobe Bryant exited the game in record-breaking fashion and the Golden State Warriors set a record for the most regular season wins, the NBA shattered attendance records for the second consecutive season. The league said that nearly 22 million fans filled arenas across the country, while setting new records for viewership, social media engagement and team gear purchases. It’s often assumed that the principle behind selling game tickets is relatively simple: A successful team generates more fans, and ticket revenue increases. Yet for the NBA, that formula doesn’t always hold up, according to some experts. Winning by itself is not enough to bring fans to the arena. NBA ticket sales and attendance for some franchises are heavily influenced by the market and marquee players, according to ticket sales site StubHub. As a result, even some of the worst teams can draw big ticket sales. This means that the Chicago Bulls, a team that just missed the playoffs but features star point guard Derrick Rose, was the top-selling team of the 2016 season. In fact, the Bulls — who have made the playoffs for seven consecutive seasons — have been number one in season attendance for the past decade.” (Source : CNBC)

Hundreds of onlookers stood quietly near the ruins of the Doric temple to the goddess Hera at the site of the first modern Games, held in 1896 at Ancient Olympia in southern Greece. The ritual with the high priestess and the torch was established eight decades ago for the Berlin Games. The flame will be used as a back-up if overcast skies loom over the official ceremony on Thursday, but weather forecasts predict that event will be similarly blessed by abundant sunshine. “It’s very special. It’s been a dream of mine to come here for many, many years,” said Mark Ledeux, a British tourist, standing on the grassy slopes of the stadium where Greeks competed in the ancient games.
From past games Ledeux has amassed a collection of about a dozen torches. They can be bought at various sites as memorabilia. During the rehearsal a dozen young women in long, pleated robes, escorted by a dozen male youths, danced to the rhythm of a drum and the sound of a flute, according to ancient Greek tradition. The rehearsal ended with the high priestess, played by actress Katerina Lehou, handing the flame and an olive branch to a volunteer filling in for the first torchbearer – Greek gymnast Eleftherios Petrounias, world champion on the rings in 2015. On Thursday, Petrounias will pass the torch to Brazilian volleyball player Giovane Gavio, a two-time Olympic gold medalist in Barcelona 1992 and Athens 2004. The torch will then begin a six-day relay across Greece, passing through the town of Marathon, which gave its name to the endurance race, as well as a camp for refugees and migrants in Athens, housing mostly Afghans and Iranians, the International Olympic Committee has said.” (Source : Reuters)
“A week ago, Kyle Busch told reporters he was “sick and tired” after a Bristol wipeout cost him a chance at a third straight victory. Seven days later, Busch has only teammate Carl Edwards to blame for keeping him out of Victory Lane. Edwards bumped his teammate out of the way in Corner 4 of the final lap Sunday, pushing himself to his second win of 2016 at the Toyota Owners 400 at Richmond International Raceway. Edwards is the third two-time winner of the season, joining Busch and Jimmie Johnson. He also ascends to the point lead, as he not only has a lead in ties but has also been NASCAR’s most consistent performer. Post-race reaction will be particularly interesting in this case, given Busch and Edwards are teammates. In most cases, this would fall under the “rubbin’s racin’” mantra. But teammates bumping one another out of the way is a bit of a rarity in today’s NASCAR, especially in a race that won’t matter much over the long run. Edwards already earned himself a Chase bid last week at Bristol.
Yet it was clear down the stretch that Edwards had the superior car. He rode Busch’s tail during the final laps, only for the No. 18 car to pull in front of him on every good run. It appeared Edwards finally had enough with the checkered flag looming and nearly sent Busch into the wall on his way to the win. Busch and Edwards were more than two seconds ahead of any other driver. Johnson, Kasey Kahne and Kevin
Harvick rounded out the top five. Eight different drivers led at least one lap, with Edwards posting a race-high 151. This is the fifth race of 2016 led by a Joe Gibbs Racing driver and the fourth straight. Ford has only taken one race this season, as Toyota and Chevrolet have clearly established themselves as NASCAR’s dominant forces. Krista Voda of NBC Sports highlighted how lopsided the season has been:
n his first race of the 2016 season, Tony Stewart earned a 19th-place finish. Stewart, 44, is in his final season as a full-time Sprint Cup driver. He will cede his No. 14 ride to Clint Bowyer in 2017. “I don’t know about from the NASCAR standpoint, but from a competitor’s standpoint Tony is one of the fiercest competitors in the sport, so to have him there and have someone to battle against is fun,” Edwards said, per Holly Cain of NASCAR.com. Stewart also talked about those who doubted his ability to perform, telling reporters (via Dustin Long of NBC Sports): “If there is anybody that thinks we’ve lost it, we haven’t lost s--t. Kiss my ass.’’ It also wasn’t much of a fun afternoon for Chase contenders AJ Allmendinger and Ricky
Stenhouse Jr. Allmendinger came into the day clinging to the 14th spot in the Chase standings before turning in a disappointing 25th-place finish. Stenhouse, who was a spot out of the Chase in 17th, is looking at an even more difficult trek after struggling his way to 26th. Tires were the major issue for Stenhouse, who had to make a green-flag pit stop due to a vibration. He was bordering on a top-10 finish until those issues left him playing catch-up the rest of the way. For the most part, though, this was a rather uneventful race. No cars finished more than 10 laps down, and there were only eight cautions—a nonexistent number for a Richmond race. Those cautions lasted just 49 laps, so this was an afternoon of largely clean racing. With the incidents at a minimum and its tire issues from Bristol behind it, Joe Gibbs Racing clearly established itself as the team to beat in 2016. Whether its teammates get along or not.” (Source: CNN)

GOLF AND OLYMPICS In the 1,224 days since I wrote W “ hy Golf Shouldn’t be in the Olympics,” my opinion has since been significantly bolstered. Many of the tensions I highlighted in 2012 are coming to the fore, and they will only continue to do so as the August competition in Rio de Janeiro approaches. Forget about Zika or the debacle of course construction and consider this: In the past week, three high-profile golfers have backed out of the Olympics citing variations on the theme of “scheduling conflicts,” which is exactly what many others, including myself, said would happen back in 2012. Adam Scott released a statement opting out of consideration for the Olympic team, stating the decision was due to scheduling conflicts “and other commitments, both personal and professional.” Vijay Singh said, “No thank you,” last week, citing concerns over scheduling and the Zika virus. And South African Louis Oosthuizen is taking a pass stating, “I have always represented South Africa with pride so I didn’t make my
decision without a great deal of thought.” 2010 British Open winner Oosthuizen said in a statement, “I would like to wish our golfers and all other athletes competing in Brazil all the very best for success. In other words, those are three big names, three two-man team shoe-ins who are saying, “We’re not interested.”
It’s not a good look, and these are just the guys who are forward-looking and honest. A straw poll of the players interested in heading to South America for a stroke play competition amid a five-week stretch that includes the U.S. Open and the British Open would certainly reveal that those men are not alone in their sentiments. We haven’t even made it to
the heart of the golfing calendar, when players will begin feeling fatigue and the prospect of Olympic competition will seem even less appealing. Which highlights an important point: Unless players are filled with some sort of overwhelming nationalistic spirit, top players are not going to be keen to compromise their U.S. Open and Open Championship performances to chase gold medals. Of course, it’s an entirely different situation for say, Adilson da Silva of Brazil and Miguel Tabuena of the Philippines, who won’t be participating in major championships. Or is it? As those players, and other non top-tier golfers who aren’t in the major fields, will be chasing dollars and status on various tours—far more important quantities to most professional golfers than medals, it seems. I want to now examine the specific issues I outlined in 2012 (not because of any brilliance on my part), but as an illustration that the points are still relevant and without rebuttal.

Hagia Sophia, the most beautiful Christian Church in the World from Byzantine Times. Today Hagia Sophia is a museum, honoring both the Christian and Muslim religions. The Hagia Sophia was constructed in five years, from 532 to 537, at the orders of Emperor Justinian I and designed by Isidore of Miletus. Immediately after the Turks conquered Constantinople (Istanbul) in 1453, the Hagia
Sophia was converted to a mosque. In 1935, the first Turkish President and founder of the Republic of Turkey, Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, transformed the building into a museum. The carpets were removed and the marble floor decorations appeared for the first time in centuries, while the white plaster which covered the mosaics were peeled off with the long and careful work of experts. “It is a beautiful and important monument and an international, inter-cultural treasure. The
Christian mosaics should be restored as well as possible, but the great black and gold calligraphic disks, the mihrab and the speaker’s podium are also beautiful treasures and should remain. Unless and until it can be shared by both religions in harmony - which would be a grand idea - it should remain a secular building honoring both religions who have made it beautiful. The Turks could have stripped the mosaics off and re-used them; they chose to leave them in place for future generations.”
