Briefly Sign up for Helping Santa by Friday It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas, and the application period is coming to a close for the annual Helping Santa toy drive. Sign-ups end Friday. Applications to participate are available at the Russellville Police Department. The program is a joint effort coordinated by the RPD and the Russellville Fire Department. The program is open first to children in the city limits of Russellville, then in the county. Any other children will be considered after those two groups have been served. Applications can be picked up and turned in at the police department in downtown Russellville through 5 p.m. Friday. Toy pick-up dates will Dec. 21 for city residents, Dec. 22 for county residents and Dec. 23 for all others or anyone who misses their assigned day.

Santa Claus will arrive at noon to the Second Annual Holly Day Dec. 5 at the A.W. Todd Centre in Russellville. Holly Day will begin at 10 a.m. and, in addition to Santa Claus, will feature entertainment provided by Tara Greenhill’s students beginning at 11 a.m.; pizza and a drink; activities including gingerbread house building and letter to Santa writing; games and storytime; and local vendors offering unique Christmas gifts for purchase. Additionally, winners of the Christmas Card Coloring Contest will be announced. “We’ll have a little bit of everything. It will be fun,� said chamber director Cassie Medley. “We had about a hundred children last year.� Admission is $5; children 2 and younger get in free.

Visiting Santa’s workshop doesn’t require a harrowing trip to the North Pole. Santa’s Workshop will be open to children all of ages Dec. 10-11 at Rock Bridge Canyon Equestrian Park in Hodges. From 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., the equestrian park will offer treats and activities to visitors to Santa’s Workshop. The event has been expanded from last year, when it was held only on Saturday. “The children can come in and see Santa and tell him what they want for Christmas,� said Tina Lawler, RBCEP activities coordinator. A $10 entry fee gets attendees one 4x6 picture with Santa or on a horse (additional photo packages will be available for sale) and also allows
